Tobias had been quite aloof since the whole strange…getting sucked into a mirror and brawling with a member of his own faction fiasco. But, it had been far too long since he had seen Evan, and after everything that happened…he was suddenly overcome with the desire to see him. It had taken a few days sure, but now that the need and desire were there…
Who was he to avoid them?
Of course, going to see the person that you liked meant that you had to bring gifts, and Tobias had gotten what he hoped would be something that Evan would like. Two somethings, honestly. Two somethings that he hoped brought a huge smile to Evans face and caused his cheeks to turn that pretty pink color that made Tobias feel…things. Amusement, most of all…but other things too. Deeper things.
After making his purchases, Tobias wrapped them in the most gaudy paper that he could find—glad that the stores were trying to celebrate holidays too early, his choice managed to be some strange shiny holographic looking paper with what looked like ornaments all over it. It was completely over the top and he loved it.
When the three packages were wrapped, Tobias loaded them into his car and made his way to Evan’s house, grinning and taking the time to move the large boxes to the doorway before knocking loudly and sending Evan a text at the same time.
…If he wasn’t home, Tobias was going to be quite cross, but that thought hadn’t even crossed his mind yet. Evan was always home.

Honestly, Evan only knew one person who knocked with such brutishness; he almost didn’t even peek out the window to make sure it was Tobias’ care in the driveway before he went to answer the door.
It was a significant improvement, considering he used to be afraid to open the door for Cambria. It helped that his phone vibrated with a new message at around the same time he heard the knocking on the door so Evan hurried out of the kitchen and began unlocking the door.
When he opened it he had a smile on his face, but it was promptly replaced with a look of confusion when he realized it wasn’t just Tobias, it was Tobias and several shiny boxes.
“What are those?” he asked bluntly, tilting his head as he tried to analyze the packages. He couldn’t tell anything about them other than the fact that they were wrapped garishly so he looked back up to Tobias.
“I mean, hi,” he corrected after a second. “And also, what are those?”

Tobias grinned when Evan opened the door, and when the first words out of his mouth were words that questioned what he had gotten him…well. That just made everything even better. “What do they look like, Ev? They’re gifts for you, obviously.” He reached down and picked up the smallest one, which was still quite large. “You take this one, go put it by the couch, I’ll be in with these two. And, don’t you think that they’re Christmas gifts or anything, I just really liked the paper, and it seemed like the right kind to get—loud and vibrant and easily noticed. Just like me.”
The male winked, picking up the biggest box with apparent ease. “Come on, goober. Let me inside. Also. Hello yourself. I missed you. You’re as attractive as ever, Evan. Thank you for answering the door.”
It still amazed him just how easy it was to talk to Evan. To joke with him and pick on him. It was easily one of Tobias’s favorite pastimes.

Evan blinked at Tobias for a moment before he cautiously obeyed him. Pink splashed across his cheeks and he huffed loudly as he struggled to figure out how to respond. For a few seconds he was just silent because he knew be must be a mess. He had been cooking and, while Evan was certainly most in his element while cooking, he wasn’t exactly dressed up for company.
“I’m getting better at answering the door,” he finally huffed; he carried the smaller box in one arm and reached up to brush his hair out of his face and tuck it behind an ear as he stepped into the house. He moved aside so Tobias could follow and lingered by the door so he could lock it after they were both inside.
Even with Tobias’ frequent teasing he still didn’t know how to respond to his flirting, so he instead asked, “Aren’t you worried that if you keep bringing me presents I’m going to wind up spoiled? One day you’re going to show up and I’m not going to see your face, I’m just going to see a giant hundred dollar bill on my doorstep, wearing your clothes.”
He shuffled where he stood, awkwardly holding the gift. “I mean, I’m not ungrateful, but.” He was pink, from his nose to his ears, and his brows knit as he tried to figure out how to articulate his thoughts. “I feel guilty, are you sure I’m not taking advantage of you? You don’t have to give me presents for me to want to be your friend. I just want you to know that. I’d like you even if all you did was come over and mooch off my food.”

When all of the boxes and Tobias were safely inside the house, the blue haired male flopped himself onto the couch, chuckling at the idea of Evan only seeing him as a giant hundred dollar bill. “I mean, if that’s what you think is going to happen, then so be it. You deserve to be spoiled. You’re a wonderful guy…besides. Just think of how happy you could be if we got married. I’d clearly be the best husband ever. We’d go on fancy trips and I’d take care of you all the time. Financially and emotionally and physically. But…”
He gave a heavy sigh, looking as forlorn as he possibly could. “…Clearly you’ll only be looking for the financially stable me. Next time I come over, Ev. I’m going to be wearing a big hundred dollar bill outfit, you mark my words. Now. Come give me a hug, then open your presents, I want to see your face light up like it is Christmas…and do me a favor, if you already have one of these…don’t let me know and at least pretend to be excited okay?"
He hadn’t seen Evan ever using one of the fancy mixers…but that didn’t mean he didn’t have one. And now he would have two. One for the house, and one for the food truck. It was perfect. Plus, two sets of all of the attachments that he could find? He was clearly the best not-boyfriend that anyone could have. And maybe, just maybe…this gift would tip him over the edge. He doubted it…but that didn’t mean he couldn’t hope.
“I’ll give you a hint though, whatever it is, it’s purple like the tips of your hair. Because I love that color. Though, only on you. I’m more of a red guy.”

“Stop it,” Evan huffed, but he was wearing the faint little smile that indicated he was flattered. Secretly, a part of him must have liked the attention. The only thing he didn’t like was not knowing how to respond to it. “My hair used to be red,” he mused. “I mean, I dyed the tips red. I was trying to look tough,” he confessed, now just looking embarrassed about it.
He hesitated for a moment and then leaned it before he gave Tobias a tight hug. When he drew away, he didn’t pull away much. Instead, he turned his head to the side so Tobias could get a good look at his left ear, and then his right. “I used to have a lot of piercings, too. And here,” he raised a finger to point at an eyebrow. “And here,” he added, pointing to his lower lip.
“But I haven’t put them back in in…” his voice trailed off and, when he couldn’t clearly recall, he shrugged. “It’s been a while. But it was really good to make sure people stayed away from me. Most of the time. I mean, the really weird ones kept talking to me, so I think actually I might have just made it a little worst on myself.”
Once more, he looked embarrassed, but these days it was easier to open up to Tobias. “I’ve done a lot of stupid things in the past few years, but I’m trying to get better. But that’s probably really boring and not anything you want to hear so, uhm, should I just…?” he gestured to the presents, not wanting to keep Tobias waiting. He was still standing close to him but wanted to make sure there wasn’t some special ritual he needed to engage in before opening this not-Christmas-yet presents.

Tobias took a moment to process this information, his eyebrows going up at the thought of sweet, innocent Evan trying to look intimidating and tough. He couldn’t picture it. It was like a baby lamb trying to pretend it was a giant grizzly bear. Not on the same line of thought at all. No matter how many piercings or red tipped hairs that it could have had.
When Evan leaned closer to show Tobias the small holes in his ears, he took full advantage and planted a soft kiss on his right one. “Well. Piercings or not, I like you. You’re my tough little fluffball, and nothing can change that opinion of you that I have. But…I’m glad you don’t feel like you need to put them in anymore, because, you’re right. That is how the weird people find you…and look at yourself now. I found you while you look like you do now, so…you’re doing something right.”
He winked and finally let go of Evan, nodding. “Please open them. I can’t stand it anymore. I have to see the look on your face.” Tobias grinned, and there was not any hint of teasing in it for once. “I really hope they make you happy.”

The fresh coat of red that stained Evan’s cheeks should have been expected, but rather than just shy away and scrub at them he managed to at least smile at Tobias while he did it. “Well,” he said after a second, “I’m happy I found you out of it, and you don’t think I’m too weird.”
He moved towards the presents and seemed hesitant to just tear into them; carefully he began to unwrap the closest one but he immediately paused when he seemed to realize just what Tobias had gotten him. His hand hovered over the box, wrapping paper still clutched tightly, and frowned. It wasn’t in displeasure; it was confusion. A little bit of guilt?
His eyes flicked up to Tobias. “Tobias,” he said flatly, at a complete loss for words. After a few seconds of stunned silence, he continued, “Tobias, this is really expensive.” He hesitated and opened the box next to it and his expression faltered; though he looked like he was feeling guilty, his eyes had lit up and it was clear that he was delighted to have not one, but two of them--in his house. He was trying to restrain himself, but it was clear that he wanted to run into the kitchen to play with them right now.
“Please tell me they were buy one get one free,” he said hopefully.

“Well I mean.” Tobias grinned, utterly pleased by Evan’s reaction. “You seem to have forgotten that I’m nothing more than a walking hundred dollar bill wearing some clothes.” He winked and nodded to the third box. “That one has every single attachment that I could find for the mixers. Two sets of each thing, I figured you could have one mixer for the house, and one for the food truck…I mean, that’s the thing they all use on the Food Network, right?”
The excitement growing in Evan’s expression had not been lost on Tobias and he moved to the edge of the couch, watching. “You know, I do expect to always eat free at the food truck, I’m going to be honest with you about that…and I hope that perhaps you’ll whip something up tasty for dinner tonight and maybe I could even stay the night if you’d like me to. And that’s not…I’m saying that I want to spend the night, not expecting that you want me to. But I hope that you do, because I have a bag packed in the car, just so you know. Hint. Hint.”
Tobias winked and finally slid off of the couch, half crawling over to Evan and wrapping an arm around him. “Every time I see you, I think I fall more in love with you. Just saying.”

Evan was nodding before he’d even processed what Tobias was saying. Of course he could always eat for free, of course he could have dinner tonight, of course he could spend the night, of course he could—
Fall more in love with him?
Evan flushed at the words; it was something he didn’t know if he’d ever get used to. He was still holding the box he’d been unwrapping and was quiet for a few seconds before he picked up the mixer and hugged it tightly.
“I love this mixer. I’m going to name them both after you. So I guess I can love you too, that way.” He didn’t put down the mixer; his mind was already racing as he debated on how many things he could mix in one meal and planning dinner based on that alone. He leaned into the arm wrapped around him and allowed Tobias to hold him; sometimes Evan was jumpy and couldn’t stand people touching him, or couldn’t stand feeling trapped in someone’s arms, but not now.
Right now, he liked it.
He rested his head slightly against Tobias’s shoulder. “…These are really great presents, Tobias. I don’t think I can ever thank you enough. But I really do mean it, from the bottom of my heart—and the top of my heart, and every broken little corner of my heart. This was really, really nice of you and I love them so much. Thank you, so much. And, you know, I’m going to make so much for dinner tonight that you’ll have no choice but to stay the night. You’ll eat so much that it would be reckless to let you drive home so full. Okay?”

With a chuckle, Tobias leaned over and pressed his lips lightly against Evan’s cheek. “I’ll take what I can get from you, and if you have to practice loving a mixer before you can love me, so be it.” He winked again and nuzzled a bit closer to Evan. “…one day though…one day you’re not going to have any more broken corners of your heart. One day, you’re going to hear me tell you that I love you, and you’ll realize that you love me too, and then we’ll go on and live happily ever after.”
Sure he wasn’t quite sure that such a thing existed…but he was wearing down Evans resolve…that was plain to see, and perhaps with a little more time, he would get what he wanted.
“I don’t want your thanks, but I am terribly excited for this dinner. And to hold you all night long again. I’ve missed you. It’s been too long…but…” He paused and shrugged. “Things were weird for a few days, I am sorry for disappearing. I didn’t want to. This city has such a slew of strange things…I don’t even know.”

Evan seemed to hold true to his convictions; for a moment he was quiet as he contemplated Tobias’ words, but he seemed set on taking more time to figure himself out before he let someone else try to start figuring him out. Tobias was so optimistic; he had so much faith in him. Evan wanted to believe that in due time he wouldn’t have any broken corners—no more chips.
One day he wouldn’t be considered damaged anymore, and maybe then he could let himself fall in love and live happily ever after.
It was a nice thought, and one that he even managed to indulge in for a few seconds before he smiled again at Tobias.
Still, it was only a few seconds later that he was back to worrying.
“Tell me about it,” Evan sighed. “I feel like half the things I’ve seen, no one would believe me if I tried to tell them. They’d think I was crazy. Or crumbling under all the stress of my life.” He rolled his eyes. He’d been exhausted after the whole Mirrorspace thing but given that the news had reported so many people being sick, he was just using that as cover. “I was worried about you, though. I texted. And called. Are you okay? I mean, obviously you’re okay, you’re right in front of me. But I mean, you know. Are you okay?”
He remembered saving Tobias from a youma; there wasn’t anything particularly weak about the man, but Evan was a Senshi and Tobias…wasn’t. He couldn’t help but worry about all these supernatural things knowing that Tobias probably didn’t have any other way to protect himself—no Senshi side, or magical powers, like he had.
Of course he worried a little extra about him. He didn’t want to think that he had to deal with any of that Mirrorspace stuff on top of the troubles of everyday life.

Nodding, Tobias seemed almost pleased at how much Evan was worrying about him. “Yeah, I’m okay. Got into a fight with this mega-a*****e, I punched him, hope I broke his nose, but somehow I doubt it. My phone got broken so I only just got a new one yesterday, so figure that’s why I didn’t get your calls or texts, I’m sorry, Ev. Didn’t mean to worry you.”
It was…strange. There were many times where he felt utterly in control of what Evan was going to do. He could figure out how he would react to things, and do them just for the heck of it. And he often did, just for the heck of it…but then there were times where Evan seemed as though he was the strong one, and that surprised Tobias more than he was willing to say. But…He liked it. Being taken care of by someone who he considered to be weaker than he was…was a nice thought. A nice feeling.
“I’d believe anything you told me, just so you know, Evan. I won’t ever think you were crazy. Unless you know. You said you were chased by a murdering clown…then I might judge. A little.”

Evan laughed and shook his head. “No, no clowns. At least, none that I’ve seen.”
Clowns were a disturbing thought but not something Evan had a natural fear of—not like youma, or Negaverse officers, or just people in general. The monsters that looked human were the ones that scared him the most; at least a clown was a beacon to avoid.
“I’m really sorry about your phone, though. You don’t look like you got into a fight, so I’m going to bet that you won. So,” he seemed like the gears in his mind had stopped working for a second and then suddenly he blinked and drifted back into himself. He leaned over and planted a quick kiss on Tobias’ cheek. “Congratulations, hero.”
He shifted positions, and then added quickly, “I love this mixer, but it’s heavier than I thought and I’m not so good in the upper body strength department, I think. Will you come with me into the kitchen so we can make something? You can tell me all about your fight, and what you did to start it.”

Tobias chuckled at the clown remark, obviously Evan wouldn’t have gone to see IT, and obviously Tobias wasn’t going to suggest that they go either…but when Evan kissed his cheek and called him a hero…well. That caused an unexpected reaction. He felt his stomach do some sort of a failed somersault and his face grew warm…was he seriously blushing? Over a kiss on the cheek? But…
Clearing his throat, Tobias nodded. “You uh…you grab the attachment box, that’s the lighter one, I’ll get the mixers, no problem. And yeah, I’ll tell you ever glorious detail of the fight, and I hope you know, I wasn’t the one who started it. I am good and pure and wonderful. It was all his fault for being a jerk.”
Lifting the first mixer with ease, Tobias moved towards the kitchen, eager to continue his chat with Evan…and even more eager for dinner and to spend the night.
