He was on the roof again.

It was still raining and still unpleasant, but it was still one of Nash's favorite places to be, if only because a) it was away from the stupidity of other people, as much as he liked people; b) it was a place he could observe a lot of things while still being relatively obscure; and c) it now was a place with particularly good memories, if Nash did say so himself.

He was sitting now on the low wall that ran along the outside of the rooftop, Nash's legs dangling over the side, one of October's many umbrellas resting on his shoulder. A bag of chips he'd wheedled from someone was in his lap, and he was debating throwing one of them at someone walking underneath.

He refrained.

For now.

There had been no sound of the door to the roof opening, nor any other indicator that Nash had company, but then as if he'd always been there, there was a man on the roof with him. Short and blonde he was dressed in a long waterproof mission cloak which looked very dramatic and was for the most part keeping him dry with the hood up, all apart from the hair which was outside its protection.

It was anyone's guess how he'd gotten there but he looked as if he'd been born to fashionably brood on rooftops, like some overly middle aged tolkeinesque elf.

He was watching Nash.

There was a hunter down on the ground that was arguing - or maybe just vehemently declaring their love, really it could have been either. Nash watched them for a few moments, chewing absently on a chip as he made up a scenario inside of his head for whatever it was they were saying (yelling) to each other.

After a few minutes, he shifted, turned his head to reach behind him for his bag, and almost fell off the wall in the process.

Lawrence glanced over lazily with a calm expression of curiosity.

"Hello." he said. "Nash, was it?"

He straightened, popped a chip into his mouth, and gave the man a once over, a smile tugging at his lips.

"Yep that's me. And you are...Law...rence? Want a chip?"

Lawrence raised a brow and gave Nash a critical look. "A chip. If you mean those mass produced junkfood carbohydrate bombs then I will have to pass. I have a figure to maintain." he remembered his manners though. "But thank you for the offer."

He tilted his head a little. "You've been hanging around Melvin?" he asked.

An eyebrow quirked, both at the rant about chips and the ensuing question. Nash shrugged. “Suit yourself,” he said cheerily, and ate another for himself, the sound of crunching disappearing in the haze of rainfall.

A lazy smile tugged at his lips. “Sort of. Why do you ask?”

Lawrence pushed his hair out of his face, tucking it under the hood.

"Oh I've seen you around."

He moved to sit, dangling his legs precariously over the edge of the building.

"You come up here a lot."

Nash was starting to wonder if Lawrence just hung out on rooftops - although it wasn’t like he could say anything considering that was exactly what he was currently doing.

Except that didn’t explain the last sentence. Nash ate another chip.

“I like it up here, but - “ Nash gave Lawr a sideways look. “ - how would you know that I come up here a lot?”

"Well I come up here a lot too." he said. "And I have been since before you were even awake I imagine." He took a slow breath and gave Nash a long look, "You are infringing on my territory. If you want to call it a territory, that is."

He kicked his legs idly. "Why do you come up here? Besides trysts, that is."

"Fair point," said Nash, holding up his hands in a gesture of conceding, bobbing his head in a nod. "I've only been awake for about two and a half months now, so you're probably right."

He let himself relax back, shifting on the wall so that only one of his legs was dangling over the three story drop, the other swinging casually over the rooftop as Nash sat sideways instead. He ate another chip, maneuvering the umbrella to accommodate this, and resisted an urge to offer them again to Lawrence, just for the hell of it.

Instead, he was given a long, slow look, Nash's eyes narrowing.

"And what, pray tell, territory is that?" he asked at length, amusement flickering at the corners of his mouth and the edges of his voice. "The rooftop or the person? As for my trysts..."

Either Melvin had told him, or they hadn't been quite as alone as he had thought. Nash shrugged.

"To people watch. I like the place. And I like being this high up."

He smiled.

"And for trysts."

Lawrence listened and his expression didn't so much as flicker at the subtle goading from the other man. He was irritated by it, but thanks to the medication it was really difficult these days to get to the kneejerk fury that he had been capable of in the past. These days things were a bit slower, a bit more padded and numbed, slower to build.

"The roof." he said patiently, as if educating a slow child. "Melvin is quite capable of making his own decisions without my supervision."

And it felt a little hollow saying it, as if every time he stated that Melvin was free it made it more true, more real. He was cold, his lack of body fat meaning that he was almost always freezing, the rain making it worse. Even as an owl he'd been soaked.

"I used to like this place for its relative solitude. Now it has a bad infestation of scene kids."

He was possibly more amused than he should have been, but Lawrence was sort of entertaining. "Oh, he made a few great decisions, I'll give him that," Nash said lightly, just to prod the stick a little further. He wasn't particularly fond of the idea of an ex-lover - if that was what Lawrence even was, just based on the last five minutes of their conversation - coming after him for whatever reason.

A laugh escaped at scene kids. Nash twirled the umbrella with the hand that was not currently still holding his bag of chips.

"I can share if you can."

Lawrence wrinkled his nose slightly at the other man's comment on Melvin. "I am not sure if would class his recent choices as great decisions."

"My life is full of people who want to share things I'd rather not and people who adamantly refuse to share the things I would enjoy." He set his mouth in a thin line. Even through the rain he could smell the crisps the younger man was eating. They smelled good to the dog in his mind and Butch begged and pleaded with him to take one, just one. He refused.

"I am hardly in a position to compete for roof space, if I pushed you off, I'd end up in even more debt than I already find myself in."

"Well, as you said, he's a big boy, he can make his own decisions," said Nash lightly. "And since his recent decisions benefited me personally, I like to think they were some pretty great choices."

He still wasn't entirely sure how Lawrence had even found out about his and Melvin's little tryst, as it had been put; but really, either way he knew. Nash raised a brow, chewing slowly on another chip. "That sounds like a loaded sentence there," he said with a laugh. "Sharing is caring, after all."

It wasn't mocking, but playful, relaxed. Nash added, "And also if you pushed me off and I died, you'd have to fill out paperwork, which I hear is pretty annoying."
