 T'kani made her way through the somewhat familiar wing of the Leviathan campus, glancing at the office numbers as she tracked down a particular professor. Coming to the right door, she smiled a bit when she found that it was open, knocking on the door to get their attention before she entered and waved. The only thing that seemed to be missing was an actual greeting, but she produced a sheet of paper instead and handed it to the professor, patiently waiting with a smile.
Hello,
My name is T'kani, and I will be taking your Botany class this semester. I wanted to introduce myself beforehand because I am mute, and I did not want to create confusion in class for not talking or answering questions.
My hearing is fine, but if you do not know sign you may want to make accommodations for an interpreter. If that is not an option, then I can easily write down any questions or comments I have during class, and bring them to you afterwards if that is alright with you. The teachers I had in the Academy were a mix of fluent in sign and not, so I am comfortable with whatever works best for you.
Please let me know if you have any questions, I look forwarding to seeing you in class.

Edelweiss was in the middle of grading some papers when he heard a knock on the door. “Come in,” Was the automatic response, though the hybrid looked up after a moment, trying to remember if the door had even been closed. He smiled up at the pretty imp who had walked into his classroom and vaguely recognized her from his class. It was nice that he had a student who actually cared to get to know the teacher! That meant a lot and didn’t seem to happen much, at least not to him.
Edel opened his mouth to say something else when a piece of paper was passed to him, he took it and read over it, frowning slightly. Oh! How interesting.
“Thank you for letting me know this, T’kani, I appreciate it. I am afraid that I don’t know much sign, but I have been thinking about perhaps learning a little of it, and this gives me a perfect opportunity. Do you have any recommendations for interpreter’s that you are comfortable with? I can look into having them here when I have class, or you are more than welcome to write down your questions, I do try to have all the time in the world for my students.”

She thought for a moment before flipping open the notebook she was carrying and writing something down on it. After a minute or so, she turned the notebook around and handed it to the professor with a smile. Sitting down in the chair across from his desk, she waited patiently for his response.
I haven’t come across any interpreters that I would consider bad, so whoever is available at the university would be fine I’d imagine. As I said, I can also write things down like this and stay after class if you have the time.
Curling her tail over her lap, she made herself comfortable for the time being, looking around the office, and rather pleased that the professor seemed to be so accommodating to her request.

Edel took a moment to read her next note and gave a smile, nodding eagerly, letting his eyes follow her gaze around. “I would be more than happy to set aside some time for you after class. I want my students to succeed, that’s my goal in life, so if there’s anything that you might need, all you ever have to do is ask me.”
He was nothing without his students. Nothing without this botany class, and he would fight for the young minds to expand, no matter the cost.
“May I ask though…what made you choose botany? I don’t have very full classes anymore, it does my heart good to see some interest in it again.”
