Stormy slowly trailed a paintbrush filled with green paint down her sign board, trying to mimic the gentle waving that seaweed did in the water. Hooked against her ear is a paintbrush with dried coral pink paint in it that has also managed to color a few locks of her mane and in her teeth is clutched another paintbrush dripping in a sea blue color. Over the hastily painted "ocean" was a kind of sloppy menu of her ice cream flavors.

Hellion was taking the long way home, for the moment tired of his cardboard home and his boring school life. He needed a break, an escape, some time to be alone and paint the way the trappings of life made him feel. Or at least that's what he thought he was going to be doing today.
His wanderings had brought him near the beach where one of his classmates tried to sell her dairy based wares. With a sniff he cast a glance at the filly who had a paintbrush behind her ear and paint in her hair.
"Mind if I take a look?" He smirked, heading through the sands towards her stall.

Stormy looked up and over her shoulder and instantly used her arms to cover a part of her sign. Damn. "H..hey Hellion." Damniiitttttt why did the best artist in class have to come by right now. "Did you uh..want some ice cream..or something..?" Her tail thumped, mirroring her lightly agitated mood.

"Is it free?" The colt squinted. Not that he wouldn't just run off with it anyway... The pegasus smirked to himself as he started to edge around, trying to get a glimpse at his classmate's handiwork.
"What'cha working on anyway?"

Stormy snorted so hard she nearly choked. "No it's not free!" She glared as he edged around, trying to see what she was working on. She did her best to try and cover it, wriggling further up to try and cover it as much as possible. "None of your bus..UGH!" The mer lurched upwards as she registered the wet paint on her body. Beneath her, the sign was smeared. Wet blue and black paint dotted her arms and the distinct green wiggle of her seaweed was now imprinted on her tummy. Stormy hissed an adult word.

"Not free? Too bad." He snorted and tossed his head. "I always did prefer free things." The colt sighed, doing his best to pout. "Do I at least get a discount for being a classmate?"
Man this filly sure was being stubborn, though that stubbornness was proving to his amusement. The batwing'd foal couldn't help but laugh out loud when the filly pulled away to be covered in smudges of paint. "Beautiful work I see!"

Stormy's face turned red and she huffed. "Well you aren't getting any kinda a discount now!" she snapped. "Ahhh..." she looked down sadly at her sign. Using a hoof she smudged out the word "chocolate" in defeat. "Guess I'll have to get a new sign." She kept her back to Hellion so he couldn't see her emotions. She'd kinda liked it.

"An abstract beauty." He snickered, taking a look at the smeared remnants of the sign. "C'mon. Everybody knows you have to lay down a base coat on things anyway. I can touch that up real easy."

"That wasn't what I was trying to do! I was trying to make a menu! Customers said having a menu to look at before the ordered instead of asking when they came up to the stand would be more helpful." She shook paint off her hooves. "You?" Her red eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Touch it up? You're just going to make it all black and say it's done like you did in art class aren't you?"

"Hard to order something you don't know the name of," he snorted. Having a menu seemed like a basic requirement for anyone trying to sell food, but... Maybe it was hard to see something as obvious as that when you were so close to a project.
"Hey, it's not my fault you don't understand fine art," he shrugged. "But, I guess if you don't want my help..." He turned, feigning walking away.

She DIDN'T want his help! Hellion was far too arrogant for her taste, like he was some kinda art know it all. Just cause he was good at it! Her tail slapped the pavement and the more annoyed she got the faster her tail went. With a huge THUMP, her tail and hooves slammed the ground at the same time. "FINE! YOU DO IT THEN IF YOU KNOW IT ALL!" People turned to look at her outburst. Turning crimson, she put on her biggest but most strained smile. "I mean, if you would since you so generously offered." She hissed through her teeth at him.

The colt blinked and took a step back, startled by the outburst. With a shake of his head he shook it off, trying to play like he hadn't been spooked. What an explosive one this classmate of his was. "Well, I am a master artist," he snorted. His wings flapped as he scooted closer to the sign. "This should just take five minutes. Show me what paints you have for me to work with. You're gonna have to tell me the flavors and stuff too."

Lightly grumbling, Stormy pushed all the paints to Hellion. An array of "sea colors", blues, greens, whites, corals, black, pinks and yellows. "Here." Moving to the side, she grabbed a rag from the back of her stand and started trying to wipe off the drying paint. As she cleaned up, she rattled off the flavors of her ice creams and how much multi scoops cost. She scrubs at her fur a little furiously to remove paint bits.

Hellion took a glance at the paints, scowling mildly at the pink for a moment. Well, he could work with the sea colors. Maybe if he did the text in the pink... It'd help the words pop, stand out.
Picking up the brush in his teeth he stood before the remains of the smudged and smeared sign. With a snort he started to mix the blues and greens together, smearing them across the canvas. He layered over it in thin diamond shaped lines of pale yellow, adding small circles in the same shade.
Then he started to add on the text, repeatedly pausing to make sure he'd heard correctly and to check the spelling. This filly certainly had some weird flavors on her list. The colt wondered if she was actually any good.

Stormy repeatedly moved around Hellion, trying to peek at the work the colt was doing. Was he designing something nice? Was he just playing a joke on her? And most importantly, was he spelling Creamy Crustacean and Coral Crunch correctly?!? Not really being able to see anything, she resigned herself to sitting at the side and waiting nervously.
