Seren was striding down to the training fields, in a fairly good mood. She'd had a good workout this morning, and gotten some advice from her unofficial personal trainer on some new things to do, and she felt good about it. Now it was time for a different kind of work out, one that was practical experience for the job. She hoped she'd find a partner either on the way to the field, or there when she arrived. She really did. The training dummies were the worst, in her mind. They didn't fight back, they didn't move... It was too easy and too predictable.

Luckily for Seren she wasn't the only one who'd had a similar idea. Hey was already on the training field, his weapon summoned, but hadn't yet gotten into any sort of training. If anything, he looked a bit unsure as he stared down the dummy across from him. Not at all convinced that that would really be much help. Or, perhaps, not interested in making himself look like a cool while he struggled to find his grove against a static target. However, simply standing there was definer not an option. Not if he had any hours of getting better. Not if he wanted to be useful. And not if he wanted to protect the girls on dangerous missions.

Seren looked up and saw some one she didn't know near one of the dummies. She looked him over, curiously, and strode towards him specifically. "Hey! You looking for a spar partner?" She called out, when in hearing range. She kept moving towards him, hoping the answer would be a nice yes. If he said no, though, she wasn't going to pressure him. She'd deal with lame old dummies. But yes would be so nice. She slowed to a halt near the young man, a bright and friendly grin on her face, and her head tilted at the potential battle partner. "I'm Seren, by the way!"

Henry was startled, but relieved by the offer, and he offered Seren (as she'd introduced herself) a wide and grateful grin. "Yes, I would love a partner." Very much so. "I don't like the dummies," he confessed sheepishly. "It's awkward fighting against them." Not to mention, didn't give much good practice. "I'm Henry by the way." His head tilted gently. "You were on the Atlantis mission also, right?" That was probably where he remembered her from.

Seren moved out to the middle of the field, and summoned her sword, then stretched out a little, making sure to use Diwata as a counter balance for some of it, then shifted to a stance to be ready for whatever was coming at her. She smiled at his response. "Yeah, the dummies are kind of lame. Target practice, but that's really all I find them good for myself." She tossed her head to get a stray lock of hair off of her face. "Henry. A pleasure to meet you." Her smile faltered a little at the mention of Atlantis. "Ah. Yes, I was, though I was... a little focused on the events that occurred. My apologies for not recognizing you from the mission as well."

"Oh, no." His hands came up. "No it's okay. There was a lot going on, and you, um. You seemed close to that girl, too." Voice going quiet, he sort of trailed off there, baby blues flicking away. "It's okay." He didn't take it personally. He kept his gaze down. "I didn't mean to drag back bad memories. I'm sorry."

"It's ok... She's... a friend, yes. But you don't know me, really, so..." She moved to the middle of the field, and stood at ready with Diwata. "It happens, in the end... People make mistakes and say things without realizing all the time." She sounded like she spoke from experience, like it was kind of something she was sort of used to expecting from the world. "But let's get this battle underway. After, if you're hungry, we can go to the caf and talk?" She tried to catch his eyes again, her own blue eyes flickering up and down as she tried to see if something was on the ground to distract him, or if he was just feeling awkward.

Awkward. Definitely awkward, but Seren thankfully shifted the conversation away from Kim and what had happened on the island with the Creation tree, onto something much easier. Sparring wasn't something Henry thought he was especially good at, but it was something he was trying to do more of. He needed to get better with his weapon, not just more comfortable handling them, but this was the best way to strengthen their bond as well. A stronger bond meant a stronger shield, and better Fear charges. It meant he could be more of an asset on missions, that he'd be able to protect the people he cared about, and he wouldn't be a burden to them. That was his main goal as of late. Getting better, so he could be on equal footing. So he Summoned Niceven in a flicker of bright runes, the multi-point throwing star still a awkward in his hands, but he didn't hesitate as he faced the other trainee. Instead, moving forward, he twisted, bringing his arm around to throw the spinning blades at the other girl in front of him. HP: 40 DMG: 6 CHG: 12

She grinned, watching him summon his weapon, her expression bright with curiosity. Ooooh, throwing stars, this was a new one on her. She had not yet fought someone with a projectile weapon. She summoned her own weapon, her giant sword, Diwata, and moved into a stance she had found was better for fighting and balance, given the size of her blade. She waited for the young man to make his first move, her eyes glittering a little in fascination. How would this go? He seemed younger then her, but what did THAT even mean, around here, really? She watched his star coming at her, trying to guess when they would hit her, and tried to duck out of the way, and come in with a strike of her sword. Unfortunately, she misjudged her guess and the star got a good hit in, throwing off her own strike, and causing her to go "AH!" And take a deep breath, followed by "Good hit!" Seren had a really cool weapon. Cooler than his, and it even seemed to match her hair(which was amazing on its own). Niceven want as impressive, or as visually appealing, but they were versifier and easy to maneuver. The star came back to him, after the hit, and he managed to grab it just as Seren landed a how on him. It made him hesitate, just for a moment, still not entirely used to being able to survive this sort of thing relatively unscathed. "Thanks!" Hopefully it wouldn't be the last. Twisting on the spot, he swung the oversized star around, slashing at the other trainee with the sharp points. HP: 38 DMG: 6 CHG: 2/3

She grinned and shifted her stance back a little, trying to get better balanced for Henry's next attack. The young man seemed to be just as determined as she was to get better, sooner, and she liked to see that in a fellow battler. When his next hit came, it hit just as hard, and she made a loud 'OOMPH' sound, then grinned more, and said "You got some GUMPTION, dude! I like it!" This was probably the hardest battle against a fellow Trainee she'd had, and she was please. In response, she came in with a nice hard half circle swing, aiming for his side, her eyes glittering with her determination to see if she could recover this battle at all. Determined was right. Henry Wanted to win, and badly. He'd always been one of the weaker kids in school. One of the easy targets, and he'd hated it. Here he could change that, if he worked hard enough. He didn't want to be an underdog anymore, he wanted to be better than that. "Gumption?" He chuckled, appreciating the reach in vocabulary. She seemed like a smart one, or at least looked the part. He might even have said more, but her sword coming at him momentarily stole away all his attention as he tried to deflect it and didn't quite manage it. He's retaliating swipe was on the weaker side, aim wise. Not lined up at all, but he felt it bite into her shield, just a little bit as he passed her. "So how long have you been here?" They could talk and fight, right? It was a friendly enough spar, and Henry had been meaning to expand his social circle a bit. HP: 33 DMG: 1 CHG: 3/3

Seren grinned at his response to her words, glad to have amused him. She tossed her head, a little, as she considered him and how he was moving, trying to see what she could learn about him from it. She was trying to learn to read other fighters, to guess what they were up to. She winced a little at the hit, but didn't let it stop her. She came in under the return of his weapon, trying for a low slice to his side, or upper leg. She was very pleased when she was able to connect with him. His question had her laughing a little, and giving a half shrug. "Since mid-July, you?" She was curious, because she knew she WAS one of the more recently awoken Hunters. He frowned, looking thoughtful as he tried to recall when he'd actually awakened, and found he couldn't actually remember the exact date. At least not off the top of his head. "About a year? maybe?" It had to be, didn't it? He gave a startled yelp when she struck him again, but this time when he moved to retaliate his aim was better. He threw the star frisbee style at the other trainee's shoulder. HP: 27 DMG: 6 CHG: 3/3

She nodded a little, a friendly smile, in response to his words. "So you have some experience on me. Good, if I have questions, I might ask you for some advice." She winced at his hit, then shifted herself into a more solid stance, expression going serious as all the runes on her blade started lighting up, and then holding a very steady glow.
