Nuawahn had seen some pretty cloth in a Sautian market and, of course, he had bought it. He'd been cheated heavily, but what did Nuawahn care? He had pretty cloth. The trader had pretty rocks. Everyone was happy! He wanted to make something out of the pretty cloth and so, camping out in a crag under an amazingly blue Sautian sky, he started to figure something out.

Nuawahn could make things... okay. He had a scissors, he had a needle, and he had thread. With these items, he could make a nice shirt or whatever he wanted. It was making the thing that was tricky, but he was going to give it a try anyway. It couldn't be too hard, right?

Scissors cut the cloth into little pretty pieces. He'd watched a tailor make shirts before, and this was what they'd done – make little pieces, to make a bigger piece, to make the biggest piece. Nua had seen it, so that was what he did. He started stitching, one piece to another, breaking to feed his pets and cast lights against the dark before returning to the fun, fun, stitching work. Eventually, however, he got bored. Stitching was fun, after all, for only so long. And there was no one to stitch with, making it both lonely and dull. Nuawahn didn't like either of those things.

So the next day – another beautiful Sautian summer day – he went into town so that he could talk to people while stitching a pretty shirt. That was sensible, after all! He wasn't discouraged by the odd looks that other people gave his shirt – he always got odd looks, even from other Wind folk. He was special, and that was why. It was all his sparkly things, his beads and trophies. If the other people wanted them, he'd give them away – they just had to ask because he didn't know what they wanted. Even the shirt – he'd give it to them, if they asked.

But no one asked. They just whispered. And that was all right! Because his shirt was made of pretty cloth, and it was pretty. Eventually, though, he realized that it didn't fit at all! Not at all! The stitches itched in places, and the arms weren't quite right.

So, he stopped wearing the shirt, and tried to make it a bag, but it wasn't as nice and pretty as a bag. So he made it a bed for his new pet, Eviath. It was also not so nice, after Eviath had made it dirty, but it worked and Eviath was happy. Thus, Nuawahn was happy.

All was well.
