Sadalsuud had been reaching out to pick up her clover and bow-adorned hairband, so that she could place it in her hair and wishing - not for the first time - that she had either a hair brush or a comb when she caught sight of it.
A glint, in the finger tips of her left hand.
She held them up, the hairband temporarily forgotten as green eyes stared at her fingers.
At her shiny fingers.
It wasn't all the fingers and it was just on her left hand - but the - whatever it was - affected the tops of three fingers from her little to middle finger turning them a pale almost glistening green.
She had ended up in the library, in the same armchair that she had been sitting in when she had spoken to Kiuchi that first night, but she wasn't there to read.
Instead her green eyes looked down to where her hands rested in her lap and to those three fingers in particular.Kyuseisha no Hikari hope this works as a start Kyu :3

Remarque had been pacing the halls, not for any particular reason other than he was just trying to make sure that this place was more solid and unchanging than Mirrorspace—which, it was, according to the measurements he took every few hours. He’d found some paper stashed in a drawer in his room and it had only taken a short while to find something to write with afterwards; ore than just keeping a mental map, now he was recording it. He wasn’t the only one in the group to do so, but he was doing his own research.
And he was a perfectionist, anyway.
He had made his way from his room to the library and might have continued on with his mapping if he hadn’t caught sight of a Dark Mirror Senshi in the library. He paused, jotting down a little note on his paper before he dismissed it to subspace and entered the room.
“Sadalsuud,” he greeted, as if he were in better spirits. He was tired, and hungry, and wanted to be home, but he wasn’t going to let anyone know just how grouchy he was getting about being trapped here.
At least, not if he could help it.
He hadn’t spoken with the girl alone in a while, and he approached with friendly intent. He tilted his head to the side when he realized that her eyes were incredibly focused on something, though from the distance he was at he couldn’t quite see what she was so fascinated with.
He approached casually and asked, “Everything all right?”

Green eyes looked up almost automatically at the sound of the other's voice, Sadalsuud managing a small smile as she spotted the approaching male, that while friendly, wasn't quite as cheerful or as bright as her normal smiles.
"Good Morning, Mr Prince" the greeting was a good natured one.
The smile faded however as Sadalsuud considered the question.
"I.. I guess" she said at last, as she wondered whether she should mention the fingers, because if you didn't count the fingers then she was in perfect health.
"Queen Altea has been very kind to us."
She sighed before admitting "But whilst her castle is very pretty, this place isn't home."

While Remarque was certain that there were no spies eavesdropping on them in the library, he was careful with both his status and his name. “Just ‘Rem’ is fine,” he said offhandedly; he didn’t seem like he was particularly concerned at present though, and offered her another smile.
His eyes drifted away from her and roamed around the library for a moment; it usually seemed like a hot spot for Dark Mirror Senshi, but he couldn’t blame them. So many were after information and this was as good of a place as any to get it. He had a few books stashed away, himself; he couldn’t understand them, but if a picture was worth a thousand words, that said enough.
“You’re right, though.”
It wasn’t home. He was anxious, restless; he didn’t like being places where he didn’t know what was going on or had no control over what choices he had.
“But we’ll be home soon enough. What do you miss most?”

Sadalsuud nodded at the correction "Okay.. Rem..."
It was probably going to take her a bit to make the mental shift because Mr Prince was Mr Prince and she was probably going to slip up at some point - but if Mr Prince wanted to be called 'Rem' then she was willing to try not to slip up too much.
Remarque may have been restless and anxious, but he certainly didn't seem that way to Sadalsuud - although that may in part have had something to do with how confident his comment that they'd be home soon sounded.
"My parents and friends" she admitted "And the food" her voice turned wistful as she continued "I know that Queen Altea is providing food too us - along with everything else - and it's really kind of her, but..."
Sadalsuud sighed again, light glinting off the green glisten of the three fingers as she gestured vaguely "But I miss real food."
Because her mind just couldn't associate the crystals - no matter how much it kept them fed - with real food.

Remarque closed his eyes and sighed wistfully, hand instinctively going to rest over his stomach for a second. “Food, yeah. I miss burgers.”
He had people at home that he missed, but he knew they were doing well. His mother was taking good care of their daughter and their dog; he didn’t have to worry how they were doing. He missed them, but as long as they were safe he’d still sleep well at night.
He lowered his hand and sighed; when he opened his eyes, the first thing he caught sight of was Sadalsuud’s fingers. For a second, he thought it was a part of her uniform—and then he paused. He squinted, scrutinizing the strange, green crystal. “Hey, Sadal?” he asked after a second. He moved a little closer to get a better look and asked, “What’s that you’ve got going on there, on your fingers?”

"I really miss my mum's prawn chilli" Sadalsuud admitted because her mother made the best prawn chilli "And I really want to eat some real food when we get back."
She'd take any real food and wouldn't be picky–
Well okay make that any real food that wasn't celery or celeriac.
She gave Remarque a quizzical look as something appeared to catch his attention,
although it only dawned on her that it was her fingers that had caught his attention at his question.
"I... I don't know" she admitted, smile fading as she tucked down her index finger and thumb and spread the remaining three fingers. "But I can't feel anything in them."
She looked down at the ground as she continued quietly "I spotted them this morning."

Remarque had never indulged in prawn chilli but he forced a faint smile and nodded as if it sounded appealing to him. He’d have eaten just about anything as long as it smelled like food.
But, even food was forgotten to him as he examined the crystals. He didn’t ask for permission to touch her fingers; he reached out to feel them, rubbing along the texture and applying very faint pressure. “You can’t feel this?” he asked, a hint of concern slipping into his voice. Still, he didn’t seem afraid; that wasn’t the impression he wanted to give her. He tried to play it off casually, even if it had initially taken him by surprise.
“Were you touching anything strange? There’s a lot of weird things around here. I’ve probably got space germs all over my hands. Probably not anything to be afraid of, but,” he shrugged. “It’s not like there’s a lot of water around here to wash up.”
He was wearing gloves, so he wasn’t particularly worried about contagiousness, anyway.

Sadalsuud didn't take offence as Remarque reached out to touch her fingers without asking, instead she obligingly held them steady as he rubbed his fingers along them.
At the question however she shook her head slightly "Nothing" she confirmed quietly, her voice subdued.
She frowned a little at his next question before shaking her head again "I... I don't think so" she admitted. "Unless you count the crystal meals" and she didn't. "But I guess all of this could kind of be called strange" because when it came down to it none of it was home.

Remarque hadn’t been particularly secretive amongst his Court when it came to his disinterest at eating the crystals, but even he’d had to succumb to a nibble now and then. He’d rather deal with whatever side effects they might have had than be weak and starving. He was extremely far from having eaten ‘the most’ amount of crystals, but even those that had indulged hadn’t given him any indication that they were suffering side effects.
He didn’t think he was, but even now, he couldn’t be certain.
“I don’t know,” he said after a few seconds of careful examination. “I haven’t seen anyone else with crystals like these, but…I haven’t actually spoken to anyone about it. It doesn’t hurt, does it? What does it feel like?”
If he hadn’t known that he was touching her finger, he would have thought he was just touching some rock; he wanted to know if it was as strange on her end as it was on his.

Sadalsuud hadn't really noticed Remarque eating any of the crystals - although to be honest she hadn't thought too much on it either.
It wasn't as he was the only one - at least he didn't seem to be–
And if truth be told Sadalsuud wasn't really into crystals as a food substitute either.
It was food though and the only food available, much as she really, really wished otherwise and so whilst she wasn't amongst those trying to avoid eating the crystals - she also wasn't eating lots and lots of them.
She shook her head "No" she admitted, because it didn't hurt "It doesn't feel anything." She bit her lip for a moment, green eyes looking downwards and away from the fingers as she added "But they feel like crystal when I touch them with my other hand."
With her normal other hand.
Sadalsuud continued to look down at the floor as she continued "Mr Prin... I mean Rem?" There was a query in her subdued voice "We will find a way back won't we?"
She hesitated briefly before adding in a small voice "All of will find our way back right?"
Because while he had sounded confident earlier, a part of her found itself needing to hear the words again.

Remarque’s eyes lifted from her crystal fingers and met her eyes. He seemed serious for only a second before a grin split across his face. “We’ll find a way back, Sadal. No doubt about it. Soon, I promise.”
It didn’t matter if he didn’t know how; he was determined. He didn’t make promises he didn’t think he could keep; even if he just wanted to make Sadalsuud feel better, there was at least an earnestness to his reply. He sounded convinced; he wouldn’t let her see any doubt. He was grasping at straws for any sort of explanation he could find to tide her over until they could find the path home. He might still be struggling to find his answers, but he wasn’t going to stop looking for the way home.
“We’ll make it home—all of us, and in one piece. And you’ll have all the prawn chili you can stomach, and then you’ll have a little extra for me, yeah?” he winked, and then drew his hand away from her crystals. His eyes drifted to them for a second and he said, “Keep an eye on that, but as long as it isn’t hurting you, I’m sure it isn’t much to worry about. The last time I was in space for a long time, I only worried when weird things happened. Once, you know, this giant salamander attacked me. I caught it in the eye and it got this weird juice all over me. Knocked me out cold for a few days. Gave me the weirdest dreams.” That part was true; he continued, an effortless, believable lie, “But it was odd up there, some of us had weird things happen. Patches of weird colors on our skin, or seeing weird things out of the corner of our eyes? I think it’s just a space thing. We were up there for a long time--six weeks. Maybe we’re just having strange reactions because our bodies aren’t used to it? All I can think is that maybe that's what's happening now. But I’m sure they’ll go away."
He shrugged, "Maybe this is just the equivalent of a space pimple or something? Don’t try to pop it though.” He winked, trying to stay calm and light hearted so he didn’t give her any cause for worry, “Just in case.”

Remarque's grin drew an answering smile from her and whilst it wasn't quite as large as her usual smiles or as bright, it was still nonetheless a smile.
"Yes I'll totally have extra" she agreed, before nodding "And I will keep an eye on the fingers."
Her eyes widened slightly at his tale about being up in space with a giant salamander, because being trapped with a giant salamander sounded scary, but it did make her feel even better to hear that something like this had happened before.
"I'd have been terrified of a giant salamander" she admitted "But I'm glad that the strange patches went away" and even more so because it sounded so similar to her own situation - because they were in Solamnia and that counted as space right?
Or perhaps it was more that Sadalsuud wanted it to be similar to her own situation with the crystal fingers.
Perhaps - but she didn't care.
Instead she managed a slightly wider smile as Remarque's suggestion that the fingers might be this place's equivalent of some sort of pimple as she shook her head firmly.
"I won't" she agreed - because popping pimples was bad...
And popping weird space equivalents to pimples was probably even worse.

With her smile, Remarque’s became a bit more earnest. He relaxed a bit, relieved that he didn’t have to worry about her becoming frantic with worry. At least, for now; too many members of the Court were already on edge and growing paranoid, and he couldn’t help but think that the calmer they could stay, the better they’d be.
It wasn’t just about practicality, though; he cared about them. He didn’t want them to be met with nightmares and worry and doubt.
If a truth and a lie could help ease Sadalsuud, it was worth all the effort.
“We’ll have to tell you all about it, when we get home. There were better stories than just salamanders, I promise. But, on that topic, I suppose I should actually work on finding a way to get us home.”
He didn’t know where to start, and pursed his lips as he looked back to the door. “I’ll have to poke around and see if I can find anything looking around. But while you’re in here, if you find anything interesting, you let me know, all right? Actually. If anything seems interesting, or just weird, you let me know. Maybe we’ll be able to piece together enough to figure something out soon, yeah?”
It was slightly rhetoric; he sounded optimistic, and even if he didn’t know what the future held, it was easier to expect that they’d find a solution instead of clinging to doubt that they wouldn’t.

"I'd like that" Sadalsuud admitted, adding "And I'll.. I'll try to help too" because whilst she wasn't sure just how helpful or how useful she could be, it didn't seem fair to let Mr Prince to do all the work - well make that Mr Prince and Queen Altea.
Especially as she really, really wanted to go home - even if she still didn't have any idea as to how she was going to explain her sudden disappearance to her parents or friends.
She nodded firmly in agreement at Remarque's request for her to let him know if she uncovered anything "I will - I promise" she agreed. "I'm going to stay here for a bit and leaf through some of the books for a while - but if I find anything I'll come and find you."
And whilst granted, the few that she had tried looking at had been in a language that she couldn't understand, perhaps just perhaps this time she would end up actually finding something that was useful–
And more importantly it would be something that would help - in some way - them to finally find a way back.Kyuseisha no Hikari Kyu just wanted to double-check. Do you want to fin this here or on your next tag? :3
