The trip over to Fionan’s place had been uneventful, which was perhaps just as well given the eventfulness of the events that had taken place prior–

Events that had ended up with the pair of them crossing paths.

Liryn had kept his promise about the senshi phones - namely covering the parts about contacts and messaging so that the other could scan him into contacts - because there hadn’t been time to really go through everything…

At least not on the trip over.

He had promised to do so however and it was a promise that Liryn planned to keep, in part because he had promised, but largely because he would have done so anyway.

He had put up with the bath, although he hadn’t liked it that much, because Liryn liked water about as much as what he considered any respectable mauvian, which was to say not at all - but had been glad when it was over.

Very glad.

And now he was waiting for Fionan to come back, as purplish eyes glanced curiously around the room that he was in.

Quote:
After washing the mauvian, Liryn, Fionan had dried him off, gently, and dropped the cat off on his bed and told him to make himself comfortable. Leaving the cat to his own devices he’d headed down to the kitchen to get some food, for them both.

Grabbing two plates, a tray, and setting various foods onto the plates he grabbed a smaller dish for the cat to drink from while he got himself a cup and filled it with orange juice. The cat's ‘bowl’ was filled with water and that’s what he snuck up to his room with, he didn’t want someone asking why he had two plates of food. If he was honest, and told them for a cat, he’d get some strange looks from his family.

The wooden floor had a few sections of plush carpet on it, in a deep red color, giving his room a warm feeling as it complimented the darker wood color of the floor and his furnature. The furniture of his room was heavy and solid, his bed some nice big sleigh bed covered in a flannel, plaid patterned, comforter and some solid colored sheets. The walls weren’t plain and undecorated as there was a banner for his favorite hurling team and an Irish flag decorating his wall. Across from the foot of his bed was a large wooden desk with his laptop on it, sitting open with some green misty field set as the wallpaper.

His room was neat and organized without anything on the floor littering it, and risking his health as he could trip on stuff.

Balancing the tray as he reached his room he was able to open his door and step into his room, glancing about for the cat as he shut his bedroom door with his foot. That done he locked his door and headed for the bed. “I hope you don’t mind water. I don’t know what cats drink or what is safe.”

Quote:
The bed was nice and cozy and Liryn had ended up settling for making himself comfortable on the plaid patterned comforter as his purplish eyes perused the room.

He had been staring in interest at first the flag and then the banner, but his ears pricked up at the sound of approaching footsteps along with the scent of what smelt like various types of foods - and none of it that 'so-called' cat food stuff - his purplish eyes shifting back and over towards the door as it opened and Fionan stepped in balancing a tray.

"No I don't mind water" he said cheerfully "Although juice would have been equally fine."

Because even though whilst in this form he resembled an ordinary cat - at the end of
the day Liryn was a mauvian not a cat and mauvians were nothing like ordinary cats.

He shifted a little on the comforter making space, his purplish eyes bright as he added "By the way do you have any questions for me before I go into explaining things?”

Because if Fionan did then Liryn would try to answer them to the best of his ability.

Quote:
“That’s good to know for the future. Though I could get orange juice if you want.” It was good to know that he could treat the other less like a cat, when it came to food, and not worry about risks to the others health. There was a long list of things cats couldn’t ingest from what he knew, since he knew there was a long list for dogs he assumed the same for cats, so knowing he wouldn’t make Liryn sick or kill him was good - very good.

“I’d like to know anything you think is important...and why here - why this city? Why not elsewhere...why is it only here or is it happening elsewhere? Why hasn’t the government gotten involved...it’s all over the news - you’d think it would have gained attention. It’s not just the news - you can look it up online.” Why was it so...ignored. It was like people saw it and then did nothing or forgot it...or something. He didn’t understand and now being a part of it he wanted to know.

“And what started this whole thing...everything has a start after all.” And what would the end be...though that was yet to be seen he did wonder. Setting the tray down he motioned for the mauvian to eat while he settled onto his bed and went to eat as well, taking his time and watching the cat to see if he needed help at all.

Quote:
"No water's good" Liryn said cheerfully, because he really was equally fine with either.

In fact Liryn considered himself relatively easy about food in general - as long as it wasn’t the stuff that masqueraded as so called 'cat food' - because he considered that stuff an insult to any respectable feline.

Although the scents he was picking up on made it clear that that cat food stuff wouldn’t be an issue here.

His purplish eyes turned thoughtful at the questions, his mind considering the best place to start as he ate a bit of fish "I don't know why this particular city" he admitted "But I do know that the way that the news portrays things isn’t really that accurate" because for a start it had a tendency to dub powered clashes as 'terrorist' activity.

He ate some more of the fish "What the news calls terrorist activity is actually a struggle - one that some refer to as a war. One the one side stands Order - that’s senshi like yourself but also Knights and mauvians like me" his purplish eyes turned serious "And on the other side stands Chaos - which as far as I know has two main factions - the Negaverse and the Dark Mirror Court."

He lapped up some of the water before continuing "That youma we fought is a creature of the Negaverse, but they also have officers that range in strength from Lieutenants who are those who would be similar in level to yourself to the General Sovereigns at the top."

Liryn paused, waiting to see if Fionan had any questions.

Quote:
“It seems that it’s best I know about the other side...since I don’t have to worry, I hope anyway, about fighting other senshi or knights. So whatever you know about the other side would be good.” Since he sorta wanted to live, and try and not add to the injuries he got in sports. He had a feeling that it would happen though, he’d wind up with more injuries, he just wanted to keep it to a bare minimum if possible.

“And what do the cats do? Since it seems you play a rather special role in all of this.” It was good to know, though he was assuming, that the terrorists were people like himself. Now he knew that it was more of a fight between two sides of ‘terrorists’ and not just one big group of terrorists trying to destroy the city.

It made more sense that things were more...collateral damage, or so he assumed that, since there was battles going on. That made sense to him. Well, he wasn’t surprised the news had it wrong, he figured everyone did aside from those who were involved in this fighting.

Liryn drank some more water as he considered Fionan’s questions.

"Well as mentioned there are two main factions that follow Chaos and of the two I personally think that the Negaverse is the most dangerous." That was not to say that the Dark Mirror Court couldn’t be dangerous, because Liryn was sure that they could - however his interactions with the Mirror Court had generally been okay - even if he still wasn’t too fond of Chaos.

The Negaverse on the other hand…

"The Negaverse is set up as an organisation on militaristic lines" Liryn said "And whilst I can’t tell you what their overriding purpose is - there are a lot of incidents that can be laid directly at the Negaverse’s feet."I’m not sure if you know anything about the big masquerade ball a couple of years back - the New Year’s Eve one - but that was a Negaverse operation."

His purplish eyes was sad "They kidnapped people from our side when they powered up to try and protect the partygoers and did terrible things to them..." For a moment his voice tailed off as he remembered the youma that had once been senshi or perhaps knights.

The youma that he and others had had to fight.

"And they were behind the big power cut earlier that year too. The senshi primer also lists a city council meeting back in 2011 where they invaded and attacked the people at the meeting - and those are just a few examples."

He continued, his purplish eyes once again turning serious "Negaverse agents - all of them - can drain energy from the populace and they can also take starseeds."

He paused and lapped up a couple of laps of water before adding quietly "A starseed is a soul and we all have one."

And then because it was important "And the Negaverse also have senshi and mauvians in their organisation. You can tell Negaverse senshi apart from those that follow order by their aura and by the fact that they predominantly wear black" he frowned a cat-frown as he continued "And also by the holes on the forehead and on the chest."

He paused for a moment before admitting "Chaos mauvian’s might be harder to identify by aura - well at least the ones in cat form" because whilst mauvians in cat form did have auras, the auras were small - more flickers than anything else. "But they have darker forehead stars than Order mauvians like myself."

Quote:
“I remember it. I wasn’t there but I’d heard about it on the news. I heard there was a lot of people on the ground...something about people fainting. Fighting, of course there always seems to be fighting in this city.” Now he understood why and what he cause was, and he didn’t like it. It seemed, to him anyway, that the Negaverse needed to be stopped...if what the cat was saying was true, and he had no reason to not believe the cat talking to him.

“I’m...sorry the negaverse did things.” Though he didn’t know what it felt like he really should say those words, because it seemed like some really bad s**t had happened to other people...possibly people the cat knew.

“Power cut...years back….I can’t remember.” No, that incident was foggy in his mind but he did remember the big meeting the other had talked about. It seemed like several big incidents the city had suffered was due to the Negaverse - not good.

Just as he was going to ask about starseeds the cat was answering it, like he could read minds, that was perfect. That might cut down on his questions, even if the kitty couldn’t really read minds but just knew what he would ask. Likely this little one had experience, hopefully, in helping people like himself so knew what he should know and what he was likely to ask - save them both some time.

“Holes...like literal holes? Stick your hand inside and feel around holes?” He questioned, really unsure on this and really kinda grossed out...or actually a lot grossed out. The idea was just...a bit stomach churning. “How is that possible? And please...don’t say magic.” At least he hoped that wasn’t the answer, though he had a strong feeling that magic was the answer.

“Ok, so look for a darker head star. Are they a danger or just...what? The same as you?” Mostly harmless, at least as far as he could tell. Taking a bit of his own food he took the time to let the other answer what he’d asked, hopefully provide more information, and generally he took the time to eat.

Quote:
"I'm not sure if the holes that the corrupted senshi have are literal holes" Liryn admitted. "But they certainly take the appearance of such..."

He paused for a moment to consider Fionan’s next question before continuing "And I think it may have something to do with the chaos."

Which was perhaps a way of saying that it was something to with the magic after all–

However, whilst Liryn truly believed that the chaos had something to do with it, he was also aware that dark mirror senshi did not have holes.

He gently reached out with a paw, in acknowledgement of the other's apology, his cheerful voice soft "And it's okay - it's not your fault."

Purplish eyes turned serious at the next question, "Mauvians who serve chaos are similar in some ways to those like myself who follow order - we both know how to use the kitty beam for instant." He paused for a moment before admitting "It's a laser that we can shoot from our star and is good in a pinch - but is also kind of a two-edged sword."

Quote:
Ok...so holes that might not be holes but looked it, and he figured trying to investigate that would be a very bad idea. He might not know much about what was going on in this city but he figured something dealing with chaos, as the other said the Negaverse was chaos, wasn’t something he should go trying to prod at as it would surely piss it off.

“So the chaos...puts holes into their chests...what about other agents? Do they also have them or just the senshi?” And if not then why not? If they all were of chaos wouldn’t it make sense if they all had holes in them? This whole thing was confusing, and was something he’d have to figure out - slowly.

“A double edged sword? How so? Can a person change sides? If they are so similar? I mean everyone is still a person and feelings change and thoughts do as well - so can someone either order or chaos decide to change sides? What happens then?”

Quote:
Liryn considered the question "No the other agents don't have holes" he said, thinking about it for a moment before amending it to "Or at least if they do then I have never seen them. The other faction that follows chaos - the Dark Mirror Court don't have holes either."

He paused to lap up some water before admitting "Although I don't know why there are differences."

He lapped up some more water "I do know that those of the Mirror Court have the ability to walk through mirrors however."

There had been a mauvian with the unusual aura that had been neither order or like the chaotic auras of the few mauvians that he had come across that followed chaos and she had seemed to know something of the Mirror although she had called herself of the Black Moon...

But he had only crossed paths with the lilac-haired mauvian once and it had been quite a while ago.
Liryn considered the next question "The kitty beam is two-edged because it takes energy which in turn makes it a little tiring to use."

In actuality it was more than just a 'little' tiring - which was why Liryn tended to opt for it as only a last resort kind of thing - but it really was useful to have in a pinch.

He considered the final question for a few moments before admitting quietly "And yes changing sides is very possible. The process of going from order to chaos is called corruption and the process of going from chaos to order is called purification. The difference between the two is that people can be corrupted against their will" well he wasn’t so sure about Dark Mirror corruption but knew that at the very least that people could be corrupted into the Negaverse against their will "Whereas you have to want to purify."

He continued "But the cost appears to be the same in either side - and the cost is paid in lost memories" his purplish eyes were very serious and sad as he looked up at Fionan.

Quote:
Ok so, as far as Liryn knew, other agents who followed chaos had no holes in them. But the senshi who were in the Negaverse did, because dark mirror senshi were chaos but didn’t have holes. At least he could identify one from the other now? He supposed that was a good thing but he didn’t understand why the difference...it seemed like there should be some rule to follow here but there was none. He didn’t like that...he wished it was all rules and laws and things were followed.

“I wonder if anyone knows why there is that difference...I mean shouldn’t there be some laws to magic? Or something. It seems like there really aren’t though.” And he really didn’t like that...it made it seem like anything was possible and there was no limit on things. It was both scary and it seemed utterly impossible and just...wrong.

“Ok...so then kitty beam isn’t good to use...it’s only used in a pinch - understood. Makes sense.” At least that was something which made sense...because walking through mirrors also made no sense - they were solid objects...or well glass really wasn’t solid...it was a liquid but still! As someone who likes science this whole thing really left him displeased and wishing for some order to what all seemed like chaos to him, and not the chaos Liryn was talking about but rather the chaos which one got when grabbing a handful of papers and throwing them up into the air. The sort of chaos associated with large messes and disorganization.

“Lost memories….that’s a heavy price….I can’t imagine anyone wanting to pay that.” Even chaos...they were people too. Who would want to lose their memories? You lost them and you lost yourself...and if you lost yourself than who were you? No one...someone else...that was an unsettling idea and if chaos could force this on people….wasn’t that in a way killing a person - if you removed the memories which made a person who they were...then you essentially killed the personality and thus the person. You made someone new...since the physical was still alive and there. That was something he’d have to avoid, though he hoped it wasn’t a common thing done.

“I’ll be sure to avoid that...but what is it that I need to avoid? How is it done?” Though if he thought about it perhaps if the Negaverse was so bad...maybe it was a worthwhile price to pay? You would get to forget what you’d been through and done...and start a new and maybe even avoid whatever this all was. Maybe it was worth it...he wasn’t sure on that really though.

Quote:
Liryn considered Fionan's question about whether anyone would know about why there was a difference seriously "I don't know" he admitted "I guess maybe magic can be funny like that."

And magic wasn’t really something that played by any rules - at least he didn’t think it did–

His internal musings were distracted by Fionan’s next comment "I used to live with a senshi who had once been part of the Negaverse."

Vespa was gone now, having left Destiny City altogether - but for a time the senshi of wasps had lived with himself, Athene and Ida.

"And I know a couple of senshi who were once part of the Dark Mirror Court" although it had been a while since he had seen either Navi or Chariklo.

He had paused to lap up some more of the water, but Liryn looked up at Fionan’s next question, his thoughts turning to a Squire who had once put out a call for help.

A Squire who had become a Captain.

"I only know how Negaverse does it" he admitted "And they do it by putting a hand in your chest."

Quote:
“It seems like it...I mean it is magic. That alone makes it funny - right? It doesn’t follow any laws of science, at least it doesn’t seem to….I mean magic from everything in stories and such doesn’t fit with what we consider reality…” Since he was knew to this senshi thing and so didn’t know a lot about the magic involved here. Just the word magic though...that spoke of not following the laws of nature that science knew and talked about and taught in schools all over.

“Oh….you once did….what happened to them? If it’s ok to ask…” Had something bad happened to them...who had they been. It seemed, at least maybe it did, to be a sensitive thing. The wording...and the idea of having known someone, implying the lack of knowing them now, that normally indicated a sensitive manner. With this fighting and magic and all...anything could have happened….he really hoped it wasn’t bad to ask.

“You know a lot of people - that’s good.” Fionan commented while eating slowly.

Quote:
Liryn laughed cheerfully "It really doesn't" he agreed "But then again I guess that magic is magic."

He reached out with a paw to snag the last of a piece of fish as he admitted "Yes I know a fair few people" because he was a mauvian that genuinely liked meeting people "But I’m always happy to meet other people" before continuing "And of course it’s okay to ask - it’s just been a while since I’ve seen any of them."

He ate the fish "In the case of the two former dark mirror senshi - Chariklo and Navi respectively - it’s because we haven’t had the chance to cross paths. In the case of Vespa it’s because he made the decision to leave Destiny City" he added quietly "Athene said that he left because he wanted to try normal."

And powered life was many things but normal wasn’t one of them.

Quote:
“Normal...somehow I don’t think anyone in this city is normal...civilian or not.” Which he had been...and still sort of was? At least for now, till he got into all of this. “This city, with everything happening, alters how people are here...how they go about things and what they do.” What sort of big events in this city did people honestly trust anymore at this point? It seemed nothing was safe and so people were hesitant, cautious, and on alert.

“Normal is something people elsewhere get to be. I can understand wanting to leave here to try and be normal for a while.” It made sense - a lot of sense.

“Why don’t you spend the night and we can talk and I can learn whatever I can from you.” It was a suggestion made without much thought given, he sort of wanted to learn everything he could but knew it would take time. By having the cat here it would give them time, at least tonight, and the cat had somewhere nice and warm to stay as well.

Quote:
"Perhaps" because Fionan kind of had a point in that - in his comment about Destiny City.

"I hope that Vespa manages to find what he's looking for though." The admission was a murmured one, more to himself.

He looked up at the other’s suggestion that he spend the night, a cat smile on his face as he readily agreed "Sure" because he had already given the twins a heads up so that they wouldn’t worry and Athene was still away out of the country, which pretty much covered his list of people to tell.

It was nice and warm and Fionan was good company–

And Liryn was honestly happy to answer whatever questions the other threw at him to the best of his ability.

It reminded him that he also needed to make sure that Fionan was aware that as far as he was concerned this didn’t need to be a one time thing either - after the other did have him in his contacts.

But there was plenty of time for that across the course of the evening.

He reached out to snag the last of the fish, his purplish eyes as cheerful as his voice.

"I’d be happy too."
