Seren ran up to the doors of the Infirmary, eyes wide with concern. She heard Rhys has been injured, and was in, and she wanted to check on her friend. She had taken the time to cook before she'd left, though, wanting to bring him a treat, and she had baked for the first time since she was 16, but now she was here. She stared in the doors, then took a deep breath, and entered, calmly, not wanting to upset anyone in here, or get thrown out.

She opened the doors, slid in, and went hunting for Rhys. Finally, she saw his bed, and approached, holding out a plate of chocolate chip cookies in front of her. "Hey... I heard something happened..." She gave him a slightly worried smile. "Are you ok?"

It'd been a little while since his stint at the infirmary started so by now he didn't look as bad as when he first got there. Most of his injuries were well on their way to healing completely, though he was still very much covered in a lot of bandages. Just in case, he figured, so he didn't question it and just let them do what they were there to do--help him heal.

He'd been lounging in his bed, headphones on and bobbing his head to a classic jam when Seren walked in with her batch of cookies and concern written all over her face.

"Yoh," Rhys greeted as he pulled his headphones off, gesturing for her to come closer. "Yeah, s**t happens in the field. I'm alright now, just need to heal up a bit more." Shamelessly he held out his hands and waited for her to hand over the baked goods. So far he'd only been given the cardboard tasting meals from the cafeteria, so the treats were very, very welcome.

She grinned weakly at him, and willingly handed him the cookies he'd made him, standing right next to his bed to be out of the way. She found herself looking him over, eyeing the many bandages, and her expression became more concerned. She couldn't help it, she had never seen anyone who had enough cuts to need this many bandages before who wasn't dead on a street corner.

Still, he'd been listening to music, and bobbing, so he had to be at least ok, she tried to convince herself.

"I'm glad you're alright... What happened?" She crouched next to the bed, to be eye to eye with him, her hands resting lightly on the edge of the bed. "I only found out today, but I'd been worrying... You weren't there for our jogs past couple days, and I didn't know what was wrong." Her eyes dipped a little, to where her fingers were, simply from her concern. People didn't just drop off the face of the earth for no reason, after all.

Still unable to really use his right arm, Rhys went ahead and took hold of the offered plate with his left hand and put it in his lap. He unwrapped it with ease and shoveled a cookie into his mouth while she spoke, and after getting another cookie from the plate he looked up at her again. "Oh, yeah. I was out on a mission." He munched on the cookie before continuing--they were really good. "I'm not really used to telling people where I'm goin', so if it happens again you can probably just assume that's what happened."

He finished that cookie and moved right on to another one without too many breaths in between.

"I hope the cookies are good?" She sounded nervous, as if unsure they'd come out right. "I couldn't really do much to help, but I figured I could bring you a treat, since I doubt they're giving you much of nonstandard bleghfood."

She made a slight moue, but had her head tilted so it was at the floor, not really in his vision, and gave a slight nod. "Just don't go getting killed, ok?" was what she finally settled on saying.

She noticed his arm, and the very nasty bandage on it. Her eyes went huge as she stared at that. "Ah... What... what the hell happened to your ARM, Rhys? That is a ******** up, bloody mess, that bandage."

He was into his fifth cookie since she got there, so when she asked he nodded dumbly. "Really good. Definitely better than anything I've gotten since I got here."

It was probably rude to keep eating and talking, and probably also bad that he was getting crumbs all over his bed and even on his bandages, so after his sixth cookie he re-wrapped the plate and set it aside, then gave the bit of room beside him on the bed a pat, just now noticing that she wasn't sitting properly. The food focus was pretty real. "The hell are you crouching for? Get up here, I'm not contagious. And I'll try? Field work is what it is."

"I should be saying that to you, anyway. You're slated to be on the front lines all the time so you'll probably deal with a lot more s**t in the future than me."

When her attention landed on his arm he sort of paused. The memory wasn't pleasant, and neither was the healing process so he was mostly trying not to think about it. "Got a spike fall and sorta punch a hole there," he answered slowly, as if replaying the memory in his mind. "I had to leave a good chunk of the wood inside and wrap it up while I went through with the mission so it got infected pretty bad. Probably gonna leave a scar where the hole is right now."

She couldn't help laughing as she watched him eat, glad that they were good. "Good. That is good news, that I haven't lost my skill at cookie making."

She straightened at his offer, and settled onto the spot carefully. "No, never thought you were, dork. I just don't sit on some one's bed without invitation, specially if they're in it." She just gave him a look. "Don't want to be invading your space, especially not when I don't want to like... accidentally bang something that's injured, dude." She shook her head at him, but sighed.

Her eyes closed at his comments about fieldwork, and the front lines. "It seems to be what I'm good at, though, charging into battle. Never woulda thought it, back home, but hey. I am what I am. But I'll try too."

The description of what happened had her eyes wide with horror, because holy ******** hell that sounded bad. She stared at the bandaged wound, and then finally said "I... am so glad you didn't get gangrene, dude. I'd hate to see you have to deal with that hell." Her hand started to reach towards the bandage, in what was clearly an unconscious gesture, emphasized by the fact that she suddenly shook her head and pulled her hand back.

Rhys couldn't help but flinch when she nearly touched the bandage. He was hopped up on painkillers but they weren't 100% effective, especially not if someone touched it. Relief washed over him when she caught herself though, and he gave a strained smile.

"Yeah, I think that's 'cause of the FEAR shield or something. I still don't totally understand it but it keeps a lot of that s**t from happening. We can get banged up pretty bad and still make it. Useful since we do what we do." He was thinking that through most of the mission, especially after getting impaled by that spike.

"Sorry! I don't know what came over me there, that was just STUPID of me." She flushed, embarrassed, that she had nearly hurt him, because that was pretty much the last thing she'd want to do. She shook her head again, baffled at the weird urge that had just taken over her there.

She bit her lip, listening to him talk, her eyes hooded as she couldn't help but imagine what hell it must have been for him. She nodded slowly as he finished, and said "As long as you make it back, that's what matters, yeah?"

She paused, then added "Any idea how long they're keeping you stuck here...?"

"No worries, dude."

"And yeah, as long as we make it back." In one piece was a whole other story, and he knew that wasn't limited to being just physically in one piece. Some of the hunters he saw he really just had to wonder, and on his own since he didn't actually talk to anyone about anything they'd gone through. Arm's length was his deal when it came to other people, though Seren was a little less than an arm's length somehow. He didn't really have that figured yet.

Her question got him thinking a little bit, but in the end he shrugged. "Until I'm good to go, I guess. I can't really ********' use my right arm so that's probably a good thing."

She gave him a grateful smile that he wasn't pissed over it, and then nodded. "I'm glad, though, you're not losing that arm. It would be a lot harder to do s**t 'round here one handed." She paused, then added "Though I'm sure you'd figure out a way. You're too resourceful, from what I've seen, to not."

She didn't add that she would be doin' her damned best to help him, figuring that might be a little awkward.

His response to her question got a 'reaaaaally?' expression. "I wasn't exactly askin' for shits and giggles, ya know, goof. I was trying to find out cause I was thinkin' of testin' out a japchae recipe, and since I promised to let you taste test..." She gave him an arched eyebrow.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 01, 2017 10:29 pm

He laughed lightly at the expression and returned it with an innocent one of his own. "I was bein' serious, though."

When food came into the picture again he gestured toward the plate of cookies. "Just bring it in here like these cookies. I don't these guys really give a ******** as long as you don't get in their way." A nurse passed and gave him a once-over, probably to make sure he wasn't dying, and then went about his way. "See?"

She sighed, and nodded. "I just was hoping they'd given you an idea of how long it might be, that's all." She shrugged, and made a meh face. "It's always nice to know."

"Yeah I know... I just sort of was hoping you could hang out while I was cooking. It's more fun with company, ya know?" She kinda gave a half moue. "I love cooking but I prefer to not do it alone. I got tired as ******** of that. Conversation makes it more enjoyable. Also, I don't want it to get cold before I get here." She shrugged. "I'll make it work out somehow."
PostPosted: Fri Sep 01, 2017 10:42 pm

He made an "o" shape with his mouth when she explained that she wanted company, then offered her a half-smile. "If it sucks that bad then just wait for me. A week or two, maybe?" He hoped it wouldn't be that long, but there was a chance considering he kind of had a gaping hole in his body at the moment. And it was then there was not a whole lot he could do about it, so.

"Anyway, I survive mostly on whatever cardboard they serve in the cafeteria anyway so it's all good."

She returned the half smile, and nodded. "I can do that, and happily will. S'not like there's many people other then you or Joy I'd actually consider feeding, without damn good reason." It wasn't greed or selfishness, or laziness. It was simply that cooking often meant a lot to her. The only reason she'd fed that damn Lysander the other day was because of her promise to Rhys.

Which reminded her. "Also, once you're able to use both arms again, I can get started teaching you to cook. I did a big batch measurement test on the pancakes... Part of how I realized you weren't there, beyond the jogging, was me trying to get a hold of you to say I was makin' more, dude. Anyways, I got it all worked out, and I'm ready when you are."

His comment about cardboard from the caf earned a disgusted look, and a nod. "I'll try to bring some more snacks down, then, while you're stuck. That crap can't actually be all that nutritious for a healing person."
