[OOC Note for family: So, Udayi [mother] was welcomed to the pride by the twins, Dagr and Kari, and formed a close bond with both of them. Dagr and she flirted which went a little further than flirting, but shortly after, Udayi decided that she wanted Kari as her mate. Kari was the calmer, gentler and perhaps more vulnerable one whom she liked being the rock for. As such, Udayi and Kari made their relationship official and found out that they were expecting cubs shortly after. Except...the cubs are not Kari's. They're Dagr's.

As far as Lutz and I are concerned, the cubs will likely never know the truth. Kari will be dad to them and whilst the adults [or at least TWO of them] know that there is a slim possibility that uncle is actually dad, there is no way, really, of being able to tell. I've not actually had the brothers talk about Dagr's fling with Udayi yet and I'm not sure Dagr would share this with him once he realised the extent of Kari's feelings. He'd likely just keep it secret and mope alone.

Eventually (as the three adults are all seers) they might see the truth of it, but if that does happen, it'll be some time way, waaaaay in the future.]

Kari approached the den with a slightly quickened step - quite different from his usual steady stride, "Udayi, you there?" The cubs were still newborn (well, they'd opened their eyes by now, but straying too far was still strictly off limits) and as such, one of the parents was always home to keep a watchful eye. Still, he called out all the same, knowing that she could most certainly hear him.

"There's activity near the border," he continued, "a gathering of red warriors, from the sounds of it. Dagr went across to take a look, but I thought I'd come back and see if you needed any help." The idea of warrior lions made him slightly nervous, if truth be told. A fighter, he was not, and he didn't much like the idea of being sized-up by those far stronger than he.

"Wha's a waar-eee-ah?" a small voice piped up and, in the next moment, his twin daughters came hurtling towards him. He smiled to see them - so similar to himself and his brother. Tyra and Gyda, their dark eyes alight with curiosity.

"Is it food?" the red twin asked, looking excited at the prospect.

User ImageUdayi found being alone with her children to be quite rewarding. They were finally old enough to start to play rather than lay and mewl all day long. It was entertaining to see their personalities starting to show through as they tussled in the den with one another and she was quite excited at the idea of showing them off to the pride once they were old enough to leave. For now, they were treasures for her and Kari to see and for them alone. All too soon they'd leave the den and start to make their own way in the world...she had to cherish this short time while she could.

And yet, as she looked over the cubs gathered around her, she couldn't help but wonder...red was such a prominent color within the litter and, although none of the cubs looked strikingly like either of their parents, she couldn't help but wonder if the bright, vibrant color was a hint about things that happened months ago...

Kari's voice distracted her from her pondering and she shifted to her paws as the two twin girls dashed out to meet their father. She carefully avoided stepping on her sons that remained, an amused smile on her face at kari's mild anxiety.

"Red warriors...must be Firekin," she said with a little nod. "I've heard of them before, both in the Pridelands and in the rogue lands. Fierce warriors that live in the desert. I wonder what they're doing here," she added, peering out of the den as if she could see some to ask. The questions posed by the twins made the dark lioness laugh softly as she leaned in to nuzzle her nose against Kari's mane to soothe him a bit.

"No, it's not food, darling," she purred softly. "They are fighters. Big, strong, and perhaps a bit dangerous. It's good that we have our den to stay in while they're here." She had no doubts that if they posed a thread Ram would have them chased off sooner rather than later, so she wasn't terribly worried about the visitors.

From the darkness of the den another cub emerged, blinking in the light at the mouth of the little cave. Tane peered up at his parents with wide blue eyes before wedging his way between his twin sisters.

"What's a...a desert?" he asked, wrinkling his nose at the new word. He knew what the sea was - Kari had told them all about it and they could see it a bit from their den - and he knew what the jungle was considering it was all around them. But a desert? What kind of a place was that to live?

"Firekin?" Kari offered, trying to sound polited interested in an attempt to keep his nervousness at bay. Most Bahari were laidback and welcoming but he had always held a slight wariness of strangers. "If what you say is true, there can't be much for them here. Likely they'll move on soon and we can forget it ever happened."

"Ooooo~" Gyda and Tyra said in unison, peering up at their mother in awe. A bit dangerous? People they should go to see?! If only they had been bigger, then they could have seen the warrior lions for themselves! Sized them up. See if they were all they were cracked up to be.

Then their brother shoved up between them and asked his question and the sisters turned to peer eagerly across from one adult to the other. Was it as exciting as the sea? That tantalizingly close place they could smell and - occassionally glimpse - but not yet go down to look at! How much longer would it be before they were big enough to do all these exciting things?

"Your mother is far more worldly than I," Kari replied, removing himself from the equation, "unfortunately I know nothing of so-called 'deserts'." He didn't fancy they'd be anywhere near as wonderful as the sea. "Hopefully they'll return to it soon, though, and leave us to our own devices.A people who focus on physical strength could bring trouble."

"Uncle Dagr is tough," Gyda replied, sticking out her tongue and leaving her father lost-for-words.

It was rather adorable to see Kari so nervous about the guests, and while Udayi knew they could be trouble, she also knew that the Bahari wouldn't let them stir up too much dirt without calling on their friends in the jungle, the Kizi, to come help. Although the Firekin were warriors, there was only so much you could do when outnumbered and on someone else's home turf. Surely none of them had ever seen the sea before and would have trouble navigating water or jungle terrain.

"I've never seen one myself, but they are vast areas of nothing but sand, like what we have on the beach...just without the sea. It's very hot in the daytime and cold at night, almost nothing grows there, water is scarce, as well as food. It's certainly a strange place to call home, but they seem to thrive there," she said as she spoke to her cubs who seemed eager to meet these lions.

A laugh left her at Gyda's comment and she gave Kari a fond look.

"Tough, certainly. But being tough isn't everything," she said, reaching out to gently prod the little feline with her paw.

Tane stared out into the jungle with curiosity. He wanted to see these huge lions that were all red! He wasn't too concerned about danger seeing as he hadn't experienced anything dangerous in his short life and the prospect of seeing someone who lived in such a strange place was exciting!

"Will we get to see them?" he asked, looking up at his father with big, blue eyes. "I want to see!"

Jioni's brown eyes lazily blinked open as he regarded his family with a disgruntled stare from under his paw that had been haphazardly tossed over his face. He had been awake - or more so was unwillingly awakened - during their conversation about the Firekin. Fluffy ears swiveled forward as he intently listened to his sibling question their parents about their new visitors.

'Worldy' that would had been tossed around more than a few times before to describe their mother and each time it didn't fail to catch the little cub's attention at full force. It brought up the same question that had plagued his mind since started to have a realization that there was more to the world besides his family's den: What was it like on the outside? Sure they could smell it, they could hear snippets of it from any passers by who happened to be close enough to their den but that just wasn't enough! He wanted to see it as well! To listen to more stories than what their parent's or uncle good offer, to go explore this sea that everyone kept blabbering on about, to make all the new friends his mother had assured them that they would make.

And more importantly...he wanted to go taste it all!

"If they aren't food then Mom, then have they brought food? Can we finally go try it?"
He finally spoke up as he shifted himself up into a lazy slouch. "I wanna try it, even if it's tough and gross." He mumbled softly under his breath.

Kari was listening to the lioness as intently as the cubs were, some of his anxieties easing away at the sounds of her description. However, when the cubs seemed suddenly eager to go greet the new visitors he bristled a little and shook his head; eyes widening. He couldn't blame them, of course. They were too young to know caution. To know danger. They would have to teach them.

"Not this time, I think. But worry not. If they become friends of the Bahari then you will have a chance when you are older. The walk will be too far for you and we do not know why they have arrived."

"Awww man," Gyda pouted and shoved up next to Jioni, leaning heavily against her brother for a moment, "that's no fair. We could totally make it."

"We probably could," Tyra agreed with a little more hesitation.

"Your uncle will be back with stories of them," Kari replied, "I can promise you that, if nothing else."

"Maybe they'll stay." Gyda replied eagerly, "then we'll get to see them all the time."

Tane nodded as his near-twin spoke, eager to go see these lions and partake in whatever they might have brought with them. But both his mother and father were shooting down the idea and that meant a definite no. The little cub gave a sigh before flopping over his father's paws, staring out into the jungle sadly.

"Uncle Dagr better bring us some food if they did bring it. I want to taste desert food!"

"I don't think they'd bring food all the way from their home with them," Udayi said with a soft laugh. "I certainly didn't when I came here. I hunted along the way and I'm sure that's what they did as well. But maybe some day you can travel to their homeland and try some desert food yourself."

She knew the Firekin had rules about who was allowed in their lands, but perhaps if an alliance was formed they'd be a bit more lax about letting Bahari lions come to visit.

"Awwww what!?" Jioni whined, mirroring his sibling in disappointment. With a huff he readjusted himself to support his sister better, his tail flopping lazily over her back. "Yeah dad we could totalllllllyy make it. It's not like you guys won't be there to watch us," Pausing for a moment he frowned, his brows furrowing tightly together as he looked up at his father with concern. "...Right?"

Sighing heavily he lowered his head onto his paws. "But if they're so different from us, maybe they need to eat food from their home? Maybe their tums can't handle fish? Or or it's against the rules!" After all their parents had laid down ground rules for the cubs to avoid taste-testing certain plants and smaller animals for their safety. It seemed logically to him that the same boundaries could (in theory) be applied to the visitors.

Course the suggestion to go visit their homeland for themselves certainly perked up Jioni and gave him pause for thought. With a tilt of his head he regarded his mother curiously. "Really? You really think when we're old enough we could go out and see their homes?!" He inquired, beaming a excited smile.

Kari's eyes were widening again, shock and horror more evident on his face now. Had his beloved wife just suggested that their children could travel to some barbaric homeland? Nonononononono! He just couldn't let that happen! Surely an alliance such as that would not be feasible. They were too different! Too calm and kind and gentle a people to mix with such aggressive lions.

"Argh-uhhh--well," he leapt in on Jioni's question with a flurry of paws, "let's not be too hasty. The liklihood of an alliance is slim at best and there's nowhere more perfect than the land we're living in right now."

The female twins did not seem convinced by that. One seemed to be mulling things over and the other seemed ready to burst out an argument.

"So basically we're never going to see this big, scary lions!" Gyda burst out with a huff, "well thanks a lot, dad."

Kari seemed saddened at that, though offered a soft, apologetic smile. "Life isn't always fair, dear children. But we do what we must to keep you safe."

"Come on," Gyda replied, still in a huff, "I've had enough of this. Shall we go find something else to do?"

Tyra shrugged, still peering cautiously between her parents.

Udayi had to laugh as the cubs seemed shocked that they weren't allowed to go, as well as at Kari's reaction to Gyda's little outburst. There were certainly more spitfires in this group than bleeding hearts, which made that little seed of doubt grow within her. She'd have to wait and see as the cubs grew, but for now it was still a mystery to her. Ah well...

"Gyda," she said softly, reaching out a paw to scoop her daughter closer to her. "You have not yet been allowed out of the cave. What makes you think now is an appropriate time?" She had to back Kari up at least a bit on this, even if she had no problem with her children meeting Firekin lions. Just not yet.

"I'm very sorry, children, but there will be no visiting the Firekin while they're here. As I said, perhaps if they return or when you're older and feeling adventurous."

"But mooooooooooooooooom," Tane whined, walking over to Kari to bump his head against his leg. "I wanna see!" He looked up at his father with large, watery eyes that were so similar to his own, a pleading look on his face.

"What if dad takes us? He'll keep us safe. He won't let us get too close," he pleaded, speaking to Kari rather than Udayi.

Jioni could only reply with his father with a highly unimpressed stare. That was really the best he could do to try to detour them? C'mooon. "If this place is so perfect than why wouldn't they push for an alliance? That seems stupid not to." He remarked with a sigh.

Clearly this was going to go no where fast. He was inclined to agree with Gyda. No matter how much they whined, pouted, and complained their parents had made a firm point. There was to be no Firekin adventures....and least not yet.

His eyes briefly flicked towards the opening of their den at his sister's request to find something else to do. She made a fair point, perhaps this could be the perfect chance to push for at the very least a little bit of excitement for the day?

Tilting his head to the side he scanned his mother with amusement. Oh ho, but they were feeling adventurous today. Right now! Right here! "Well," He began with a roll of his tongue. "If we can't see the Firekin today, what about at least going outside?" He suggested as he gestured to the den's doorway.

SilverLutz

Gyda nuzzled in against her mother, pressing her face into the fur on her chest and sinking in against her a little. She was an adventurous spirit but she also liked snuggles, too - especially when it was clear they weren't going anywhere super exciting.

"We can go for a little walk around the den," Kari compromised, "but anyone who wants to come has to stay in sight. Wandering off means we all come straight back to the den."

Gyda brightened a little at that and Tyra gave the smallest of smiles, clearly hesitant in seeming to enthusiastic in case one of their parents changed their minds.

"We'll be good," Gyda promised, "right?"

"Right," Tyra added softly, stepping up alongside her father. "We'll stick close. Promise."

Kari, with a roll of his eyes, stood and stretched and gestured for any willing cubs to follow. It was almost a certainty that there would be no cubs staying behind.

The constant questions for the cubs made Udayi smile slightly. They certainly were more adventurous than Kari, but she had come all the way here from the Pridelands on a whim, seeking the sea that she had seen in her visions. It was quite like her in a way, plus the natural curiosity of cubs on top of that...well. She could see they would certainly be a handful in the future.

"I'll stay here in case any of you get a little overwhelmed. There's lots to see and smell out there and is a lot to take in. Listen to your father," she added, giving Gyda's rump a little nudge with her nose to let her know it was okay to be excited.

Tane gave a little whoop and pounced on his father's paws in excitement before darting to the mouth of the cave, his little tail twitching with delight as he stared out at the great big world. Already he felt like he was about to step off into the unknown even though he had seen this very sight for every day that he'd had his eyes open.

"We'll be real good," he promised, glancing back at his siblings and parents with an eager grin.

Wait they were actually taking his suggestion!? Mom and dad were letting them go outside!?

Oh. My. Gods. This was not a drill. THIS WAS NOT A DRILL!

Blinking rapidly Jioni couldn't help but take a step back in shock as his father gestured for the others to follow him as he moved out the door. His body racing to catch up with his mind's jumbled, confused signals. One thing was clear though; he needed to move quickly before this opportunity passed him right on by!

Scrambling forward Jioni rushed to catch up with the rest of his family who had braved the great unknown of the outside world. Coming up besides Tane he gave him a playful bump of his hip before leaning in closer, whispering in gleeful tones, "Bro, this is the best day ever!"

His legs shook with excitement as he peered out to the familiar sights just beyond their protective home. It was a sight that he had studied and memorized from the moment his eyes had opened but yet everything now looked all the more exciting and interesting! The world was finally opening up to them, and he honestly didn't know where to begin dissecting it!

....Well, now that he thought about it, wherever their father was willing to show them was a good place to start.

Craning his head up he peered at Kari expectantly, his fluffy ears twitching forward. "Where are we going first!?" He inquired eagerly.

SilverLutz

Kari took a brief detour to his mate's side and touched his muzzle briefly to hers then, with a small, fond smile down at his children he ushered them in the direction of the path that wound down a small verge and through a cut in the rocky outcrop. "We might not be close enough to reach the sea, but from just around here, we can see it on a clear day - a day like today."

Gyda whooped with joy and Tyra giggled in response.

Perhaps they would get to do something amazing today after all, even if it didn't involve the big red lions from another land.

(closing post from me, thanks for the RP both of you <3)
