It was becoming an unfortunate and relatively unlikable habit now for Merric to be going around to people's rooms to retrieve articles of clothing he'd lost two days prior, at the game. He didn't particularly find this part of everything enjoyable, but really, he had no choice in the matter. Melvin had one thing, and Soleil had another.

Merric took a breath, then knocked.

It only took her a minute to get the door; head down as she read through a wall of tweets, dressed in a pair of shirts and camisole. Her hair was puled back in a messy bun, and there were long strands of it hanging around her face. Chuckling, she let the phone fall to her side as she finally looked up. "Hey Merric, come on in." And then stepped back to give him room, flopping back down on the bed with boneless grace.

"You're shirts hanging up there," she said, pointing up at the back of the closet door. It was neatly hung up, buttoned to the collar, and seemed relatively wrinkle free. "I would have washed it, but I didn't want to run the risk of ruining it if it needed special care."

She was watching him keenly, leaning forward so her arms were folded across her thighs. "How're you feeling today?"

Soleil received a faintly wary look, though Merric stepped in after he was invited, a hand rising to straighten the tie that was already straight, an instinctive gesture.

"Thank you," he said politely, and reached to take it down, carefully and meticulously removing it from the hanger to fold it neatly again, tucking the arms in and then in half before he held it in his arms and turned back around. Merric had not come here for conversation, but it seemed both inevitable and unavoidable.

"Fine," he said, which was not true in the slightest. "I'm fine."

Then, since it was only polite, "Are you well?"

There was a very faint smile playing on her lips as he turned back to her, though it was hard to tell what exactly had sparked it. The Meticulous folding, perhaps, and how very expected it had been.

It grew though, at his answer, and had her straightening up to place her palms on the bed beside and a little behind her. Her feet kicking lazily so the very tips of her toes skimmed the floor. "I'm just dandy," she assured him with a grin, and that, at least, was the truth.

"Fine, huh? Did you even get a hang over from all that drinking you were doing?"

He still wasn't even entirely sure what he thought of Soleil. She was a little bit of an enigma, though that was mostly due to the fair weather attitude about things, Merric supposed, as he gave her a scrutinizing look. He did not do well in situations like these.

Or a lot of them, really.

The question made his frown deepen. "I didn't drink that much," said Merric, a flush touching his cheeks. "I did feel a little of the effects, but nothing excessive."

It was an outright lie, but she didn't need to know that.

She suspected, though, and not without reason. She'd seen him during the game, watched how quickly that bottle had emptied, and how his behavior had evolved as a result.

She suspected all three of them had felt the effects in the morning.

"So all that during the game, that was all conscious and clear headed decision making?"

At the very least the smile had faded. She seemed interested, but not in a cold or unkind way.

The question made his face heat with more than just a sense of outrage at the prying.

"It was a game," said Merric tersely. "A silly game. My participating in it was a result of my own volition, and perhaps the alcohol may have added to the overall feeling of things, I am not some sloppy drunk who can't make decisions on their own."

Her expression remained relatively impassive, though her head had tipped to one side, the edge of her jaw resting on her shoulder.

"I don't think you're a sloppy drunk." She'd seen sloppy, had even been t herself a time or two, and Merric wasn't that. "It's not hard to drink more than intended, though. Or for things to get out of hand before you even realize they're heading in that direction." She gave a little shrug. "I don't know if that is what happened, just that it can happen.

"So I'll ask again. Are you okay?" She actually seemed to care, though to what extent?

"Perhaps not," Merric conceded, though the stiffness still remained. "But I still don't appreciate the insinuation all the same. It was, as I've said, just a game, which we all played, yourself included. I don't understand why you feel the need for an interrogation."

His lips pressed together in a thin line, the weariness of everything that had happened making him more irritable than he should have been about it; but the pressing was grating.

"And as I've said, I'm perfectly fine. Is there something else that you needed?"

"That's not what I was insinuating," she pointed out levelly. "And I had a great time. No regrets for me."

Her hands came up, palms to the ceiling, as she shrugged yet again. Conceding to his assurances. "Well, I guess if you're perfectly fine then the answer is no."

The hands lowered, laying on her thighs now. "It seemed as thought things might have been getting a little out of hand, but if not, I apologize for misconstruing what I saw. Pardonnez-moi. I am glad to hear all is well, though."

The tone may not have been flippant or even intended as flippant, but it certainly felt flippant to Merric, who was feeling more and more put upon by Soleil's coolness. Not to mention dismissive, considering that he could tell she did not believe him - which, sent he didn't even believe himself, was hardly surprising.

But still.

"What exactly do you mean, what you saw?" Merric asked, keeping his voice as calm as possible. "And what do you mean 'out of hand?' "

She could understand how this would be a testy subject for him. If he was fine, than the implication that he wasn't wouldn't be a welcome one. If he wasn't, well, that had it's own implications as well. She couldn't really blame him for being unhappy that she'd brought it up, however...

"A lot of blushing. Also seemed kind of tense or flustered most of the time." Her tone was a little more gentle, not so obviously prying now, because she really didn't want to offend him. "With particular interest in Lysander and his assistant, and their moods."

He did not, as it turned out, appreciate her comment about his blushing, especially considering it made him blush at that moment just by the reminder of it. And he also did not appreciate the prying into his own thoughts, which felt less like an attempt at consoling or comforting him and more an attempt to wheedle gossip.

It was aggravating. Merric felt the growing sense of confusion and frustration rising as it had before.

"I am not," he said, "tense, or flustered, or blushing." Mostly. "Roswell and Lysander are my colleagues and my friends, and I don't appreciate whatever it is you're trying to insinuate here."

"I'm not insinuating anything. Only making observations." Which was, in that moment, true. She could make guesses about what those observations could mean, but those she would keep to herself. For now.

"If you were not tense or any of the rest, then my mistake, to which I have already apologized. I thought you might like a third party to talk to, but if there's nothing to talk about..." Another shrug, because what else could she do. "You have your shirt back and are free to go." He'd been free to simply leave this entire time. "I'm glad you're fine."

"You are free to make as many observations as you wish," said Merric, "But as for what you think they do or do not imply, that's not for you to decide."

He was suddenly very tired of all of this. Of Deus, of the constant spin of confusion inside of his head, of the fact that he couldn't quite seem to wrap his mind around anything at all that was happening or had happened to him. And the fact that, slowly but surely, he was starting to make a fool of himself.

That was something he was used to, at the very least.

"Thank you for my shirt," said Merric, and gave Soleil a small nod of gratitude. "And no, there is nothing to discuss."

And then he had gone, disappearing out the door, because talking why talking, why did everything and everyone want him to talk.
