Melvin had been in the infirmary moving lab equipment from the newly renovated rooms to be useable again and was yawning as he past the front desk and pushed past the exit door.

What he saw was a heavy downpour and he groaned as he popped open his umbrella. The top flew off from the main handle and caught the wind before flying up into the sky and across the field.

Staring at just a handle with a section of metal on it, he breathed out and looked up wondering when it would get light enough to make a break for the dorms. What he got was a splatter of rain on his glasses. As he took them off he glanced as he smelled smoke and spotted too familiar faces. "Oh. Hey Zeke. Ever."

"Just rain. Unless he melts." He raised a hand in a brief wave to Melvin -- Ever's own hair still wet, just starting to get dry, the result curling it around his ears and making it stick across his forehead. He'd braved the rain earlier to come steal a minute during Zeke's lunch break, to stretch himself out. To steal a smoke, since his own stash had been destroyed and he still hadn't taken the leave time to go buy more.

On that note, he reached down to pluck the cigarette from between Zeke's fingers and raise it to his own mouth, eyes lifting up into the air to track the umbrella in the distance. "How've you been, then?"

The smile melted into an all out grimace at The mention of coconuts, and he shook his head, as if that would work too rid his mind off the memory of coconuts for a solid year. It didn't. He ended up reaching for the cigarette far sooner than he usually would have, and when he managed to get it he held the smoke in his lungs for a long moment before releasing it.

"Gin," he corrected. "And vodka." Neither of them had gone on leave in a while, but where Ever was content to bum smokes and booze I'd him, Zeke actively sought out those who were going off island so he could pay them to bring him s**t back.

He'd heard a rumour, about a game of dares in one of the common areas, and the smile returned as he leaned into Ever's side, handing back the cigarette. "How's it going on your personal mission to get laid?"

Melvin could understand the grimace but found it more friendly teasing as they had all suffered through their limited diet for a year - and yet somehow hadn't died of any sort of malnutrition. Saying coconut was at least more managable to him than seeing one, else he would have clammed up very quickly. Ugh. Clams. That included fish too.

Placing his glasses on from where he had been drying them off, they nearly feel off at Zeke's arrow shot topic of their earlier conversation and he tensed as he quickly spun around at him with his hands up. "Can you NOT say that out loud?!" He glanced to the door quickly and back at him. "Last thing I need is my name on one of the lab's gambling whiteboard and some poorly made golem after me." If it was one thing Life liked to do, it was hazing when they were bored or frustrated between equations or funding issues.

Seeing Ever coughing only worsened the sudden topic as Ever hadn't even been privy to that conversation to begin with and Melvin hadn't wanted to go about tossing that information around. It was one thing to be desperate. It was another to start announcing it to the world that you were desperate and were rusty to dating.

"How hard - " He frowned as he felt both offended by Ever's tone that it was easy as just walking up to anyone and asking them if they knew the directions to his bedroom. "Don't make it sound that easy." He snipped as a bit of pink was taking over his ears.

As for the question, he calmed down a bit because it was and should have been common knowledge. "I'm bi." It felt strange just saying it as it was usually just unspoken. "I thought that was apparent from who I've dated before."

Tense, he crossed his arms and leaned back, his heart still beating quickly from Zeke's question. He looked out at the rain again and as if to respond, it started pouring even harder.

"If it's so easy, then how the hell did you two hook up?"

How diplomatic was Ever, really? He hummed a little, tipping his head while he considered Melvin. Maybe it was the assumption that it couldn't have been simple that put mischief in his voice, or just Melvin's overall demeanor. Or how easy it was to make him blush.

"...I met him in the hall, invited him over to drink some screwdrivers and then I blew him." This time, it was deliberately matter of fact. He might as well have said that they went out for dinner and dancing. "I'm incredibly easy."

Zeke didn't know who Rin was, so he could only give a small note in acknowledgment before moving on.

"lucky and attractive," he corrected pleasantly, the smile lingering. Both Ever abd Harley knew the big man could be charming if and when he wanted to be, but it hasn't been charm that had gotten him into anyone's pants.

There had been some neelding and baiting, but that was beside the point, and not something Melvin would probably be comfortable with doing. He didn't think, at least.

He did glance sideways at Ever before answering one of Melvin's other questions. "We're really sexually compatible, but it doesn't really hurt that we have very similar desires in the relationship department." There had been a slight pause at relationship, but it was accurate. They'd been together long enough that it was kind of pointless to split hairs about it. "And get along otherwise, as well."

The cigarette was reclaimed and puffed at, but as he blew out a small cloud of smoke he use it to gesture at Ever with the cherry. "If you want solid advice for hooking up with people you should ask him."

Melvin had to take a moment and just stare at the two assholes he decided might have a clue to get him one step further into being less sexually parched, only to find the true reveal of their technique was that they had absolutely no techniques at all. No, he was not going to say what Ever and Zeke were admitting were techniques were indeed techniques. It was just dumb luck and math!

Taking a controlled breath, Melvin closed his eyes as he cleaned against the wall and pinched the bridge of his nose. "So what I'm hearing is that one of you has dumbass luck and doesn't look like a bridge troll that people would at least approach you to get boned, and the other plays a game of ratios to anything that has hopefully 2 legs until he scores?"

He had to take a moment to just laugh for a few seconds at that. "You guys don't even have game. You just strike blindly and hope to hit and you just happened to hit each other. Someone who wants to ******** without effort or talent and Someone who offers to whoever crosses his path. How aren't there 4 more people holding onto your belt loops at this point? Not enough cigarettes?"

He felt a little insulted that he convinced himself it was this hard, and then frustrated that somehow such actions probably still wouldn't work for him.

"Alright. I'm just gonna stand out here with this metal pole and hope lightning strikes me." He said, looking at the metal stick in his hand and looking up as the lightening that flickered across the sky. "Maybe someone will bang my corpse. There probably is one necrophiliac on this island." He said dryly.

What did people even do when they felt like crap? Oh right, drink. Too bad he didn't keep a flask.

Ever, though, was at least slightly more helpful. He considered Melvin's rant, quiet and thoughtful, with his head slightly cocked and his posture loose. Comfortable, not offended in the slightest, he was more than willing to try to help.

"You can't get angry just because it's not the answer you like." His tone stayed frank, as both of his eyebrows slid up. "This isn't a game. It's not as simple as 'say these words and people will fall into your lap."

A small shake of his head. "If you see something you want, then you should go after it. And you should go after it honestly. If the other person is interested, they'll say so; if they're not, they'll say no, and you can move on to greener pastures. As far as I'm concerned, that's completely logical. The problem is that most people can't deal with getting turned down."

A beat, and then his smile shifted. "Besides, I don't go after anything with two legs. He has to have a d**k, too."
