The Rules & How To Play

If you're interested in winning one of these lovely ladies, all you'll need to do is fill out the entry form in the post below! You get to come up with the history of one, or both, of these ladies! That's it! It's just a standard personality & RP contest. Write as much, or as little, as you feel and we'll choose which ones we liked best.

Please use the appropriate heading if you're a Gold Newbie or not! We want to home at least one of these ladies to someone who doesn't yet have a queen in Echoes of Pern!

The Rules
  • You must enter for yourself and cannot give the gold away if you win.
  • These are not RP required, but we do encourage RP!
  • These queens are full-fledged adults! They have had their maiden flight, and are adults.
  • There is no age limit besides the fact they're at least 1 Turn old and graduated. You can make them young, middle aged, or ancient!
  • These queens MUST remain in their particular Weyr. You don't get to win them and then drag them off somewhere -- we really need some active ladies n the Weyrs.
  • You may try for both queens but may only win one!
  • You may make one profile and "adjust it" to fit the other queen's location if you'd like. While we'd prefer to see two unique entries for the unique ladies, we do understand time is limited. Just make sure their histories and story fit their setting and the life at the Weyr.
  • You are welcome to turn these profiles into Quests if you do not win.
  • You must fill out the entire entry!
  • Staff may enter.

Still interested?? Then fill out the form and appropriate heading!

Please post the Gold Newbie Heading above your entry if you don't own any gold dragons in Echoes of Pern! We'd like one of the queens to go to a Gold Newbie if possible. In the event we don't get any gold newbies to enter, we'll pick from the pool of entrants that we have as normal!

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: Orcus
Rider's Age: 22
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: Journeyman Weaver
Which Weyr are they Stationed? Western Weyr
Rider's Looks: Standing tall (ha!) at 4'5", Orcus has a petite, yet aerodynamically curvaceous build. Her waist length hair went silver-y white at 15 due to a freak of genetics and is worn in a series of braids tied off with pretty bits of crystal. She has pale skin and equally pale blue-green eyes fringed with thick eyelashes. Due to her height, she prefers to wear shoes with a slight heel to give herself an extra inch or two. And due to her upbringing, she is always impeccably dressed.

Rider's Personality: Orcus is an emotionally distant young woman who takes great pride in her willingness to work hard and her fearlessness and honesty. Regardless of what sort of work she's been entrusted with, Orcus will, without fail, give you 110%. Her personal philosophy is that one plays better if they've worked hard beforehand and earned it. One of the things that makes Orcus such a good worker is her attention to detail. With Orcus around, you need never fear that the little things won't be taken care of.

Very little phases Orcus. She will try anything and everything at least once, regardless of her own discomfort. She's eaten toasted bugs for a dare, gone out camping by herself and gotten into fights with bigger, meaner people. It's not that she doesn't wonder and worry a little about the What Ifs. It's more that she thinks about them for half a second before telling them to go screw themselves sideways, she has s**t to do today. Whatever her failings, no one has ever been able to accuse Orcus of cowering back while the rest of the world was out there doing stuff. Additionally, Orcus will not lie. Ever. Childhood whippings with her father's belt applied to her a** kind of taught her how lying was never the way to go. Being honest in her dealings is a point of honor with her. And frankly, she'd rather wallow in runner s**t than lie or be thought of as a liar.

Unfortunately, In spite of her good points, Orcus also has a few glaringly bad ones. The people of Orcus' native crafthold had stories about her acerbic tongue. Those nearest and dearest to Orcus's heart called her Sting behind her back because she is tiny and armed with sharply pointed words that cut to the quick. And since she won't lie, her words can be extraordinarily harsh. And sometimes, she takes great delight in finding the most cutting words to put her opinion forth. Add to this a distinct lack of empathy for those outside of the Weyr and an enjoyment in bullying and it's a wonder Melianth chose Orcus at all. Though dragon and rider definitely share a large dose of elitism. Frankly, Orcus knows she is better than you. And she's not afraid to prove it by any means necessary.

Rider's History: Orcus was born, bred and raised within the Weavercraft. Even at a young age, the tiny child was watching and learning from her parents, loving nothing more than to be allowed to play in the dye tubs. Delighted by her desire to learn, her parents sent her off to the hold harper to learn the basics as well as to have other children to play and socialize with.

When Orcus was old enough to be taken on as an apprentice, her parents wisely left to teaching to the other Masters, though they were delighted any time their daughter showed them the latest project her teachers assigned. As she learned and grew, Orcus showed a decided bent towards dyeing and embroidering fabrics. When she was 20, she walked the tables and became a journeyman.

Delighted and proud, her parents celebrated with their diminutive daughter and settled back, sure that they would continue to see the lovely things she made. Only, things didn't work out that way. Western searchriders descended on the crafthold one day and Orcus was taken to the Weyr. Shortly after her arrival in the Weyr, Orcus had her 21st nameday.

And Thread began to fall again.

Shocked and horrified, she sent messages to her crafthold, taking enormous relief in her parents' continued safety. She stood at the next Hatching and no one was more shocked than Orcus when golden Melianth chose to Impress to her. Still Orcus threw herself into caring for her dragon and learning all the Weyr had to teach her.

Shortly after graduating from training, Melianth had her first Flight which shook her rider to the bone as she hadn't expected the emotional flooding to be quite so... intense. Still, she's content enough as a very junior weyrwoman. And Melianth is happy as long as her rider is always nearby.

Dragon's Name: Melianth
Dragon's Size 42'
Dragon's Personality: While she shares her rider's sense of elitism, Melianth's has a slightly more playful tone to it. She delights in bossing the browns and bronzes about and in having as many admirers as possible. Overall, Melianth is a very cheerful dragon and it worries her when her rider says things to others with the intent to hurt. When that happens, Melianth is known to scold her rider in the hopes that Orcus will mends her ways.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? Both enjoy living within the Weyr. Orcus enjoys the feeling of safety as well as having a bit of status. Melianth enjoys having other dragons for company. Particularly dragons she can flirt with.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? Since Orcus impressed shortly after Thread returned, she really has no frame of reference for how dragonriders were able to live prior. She only knows she hates and fears the stuff and is more than happy to help fight it. Melianth has never known any time without Thread and simply does the job she was created for.

What are some of their dreams for the future? Orcus would like to someday go back to the crafthold and attain her Mastery. Melianth is happy to go wherever her rider does and only very occasionally will daydream about a time without Thread since she's very curious about the stories the older dragons sometimes share.

Anything else you want to add?

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: Melea
Rider's Age: 21
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: N/A
Which Weyr are they Stationed? Western

Rider's Looks: Melea is just a little taller than average, and lanky, even at her age. She has an average to curvy build, with none of her sister's inherent athleticism. She has her father's mousy brown hair and his pale green eyes. Her hair is quite fine, and can never really grow beyond mid-length. She got her mother's tanned/olivey complexion, her quirky, crooked smile, and perfect one-eyebrow raised glare. The rest of her is really more like her dad: warm eyes, round face, soft features. She's not the kind of girl that turns heads, but has a rural windswept sort of prettiness.

Rider's Personality: Melea is a quiet girl, but not for any lack of confidence or timidness, it's just her personality. In fact, while not outpsoken or outgoing, Melea is quite confident and self-assured. She rarely speaks, but when she does her words are measured and thoughtful. She prefers to think a lot before she commits herself to a decision. Melea is a watchful person, paying close attention to those around her, particularly those she has an interest in. As a child, she would often hide places where she could just watch people for hours, enjoying seeing natural human moments play out. Unfortunately for her, she has an understanding that lets her see beneath surface, and often worries if people are really happy deep down, seeing the difference between how they act in public and in private. Careful and patient, she is very much unlike her mothers who were the bold, spirited, look-before-you-leap type people.

Melea has a motherly nature, in the sense that she feels responsible for making sure everyone is safe and happy and often thinks of things that others don't. She'll be the one that always has some extra food or set of bandages at hand. She is thoughtful and has good foresight, but she doesn't like to be a nag, so while she'll notice potential issues ahead of time, she won't mention them to anyone, but will instead attempt to preempt the situation herself by planning and preparing for whatever eventuality might come up. She will let people realize their own mistakes first, but will be standing by, ready and willing to jump in with a solution when asked, or if it seems like the situation has gotten out of hand.

Melea has always been supportive of those she loves. Friends family, and partners, she throws herself full force into helping them accomplish their goals. Easy going, yet unafraid of hard work, she is usually pretty tolerant of people's attitudes, whatever they may be. And that stands for her dragon as well. If Arrakith was a lazy gold, Melea would be content to let her be lazy. But given her desire to become a leader in the Weyr, Melea has given her her full support, always up to help out in whatever side goal or pet project Arrakith is focused on that month. Melea herself has little personal ambition, at least for now. She's still only young, and more interested in enjoying life and figuring out what to do with it than setting her eyes on some accolade or title. She's not a fan of decorum and would hate to be called 'lady', but like Arrakith, she has a bold personality and wants to be seen as a person of strength and quality.

Despite her mild mannered and unassuming demeanor, Melea is as unladylike as her sister or either of her mothers. Raised by adventurous, outdoorsy people in a wild and unrestrained environment, she has many hobbies and personality traits that people would consider tomboyish. The difference between genders was never enforced in her upbringing, so while she liked picking flowers and playing with dolls (and that was fine) site would also shoot a sling, climb trees, and play fight with her sister with no one ever telling her that's odd. She brawls as much as any man, enjoying a good fight, and can have a short temper at times.

With friends, however, she's easy going to the extreme, finding little that's worth fighting over. She similarly doesn't mind discomfort much, and can adapt to most situations if necessary. A day hiking in the desert or spent all day in bed is the same to her, as long as she enjoys the company. She can be very narrow-sighted with those she likes. Like a runner with its blinders on, she sees only what's in front of her, completely missing those that are right by her side. She doesn't mean to be thoughtless, but while she's remarkably in tune with certain people's wants and needs, other people's often simply don't occur to her. This is true of romantic partners in particular, but can also apply to people she respects or admires. She can be a little prone to hero worship, idolizing certain people with a geekish enthusiasm. Being so focused on certain things, it can be hard to get her attention sometimes. She tends to get caught up in the idea of other people, losing some sense of her own identity, but this is something she's been working on recently, and for that reason is more cautious about jumping into any new relationships (romantic or otherwise) too quickly.

Rider's History: When Weyrbrat Telina and Apprentice Beastcrafter Alaria met for the first time as weyrlings in the same clutch, the two were instant friends. Their greens, on the other hand, were instant enemies. They would frequently bicker, Alaria's clever and haughty Ainiath riling Telina's rough, caustic Eriboth, though the girls got on just the same. Things came to a head when the two greens chose to rise on the same day, something Ainiath insists (to this day) that Eriboth did on purpose! But for Telina and Alaria, that night sparked something else. And when the flight was over, the two greens would find their riders in far too good of a mood to be fussed at over who stole whose blue, or who had started first. From that day, they were inseparable. Through all their dragon's fighting, the two remained strong. They had everything in common; they were both adventurous, independent, and had a strong sense of wanderlust. After their weyrling training was over, they decided to set out on their own, eventually finding their way to the Zanoma Camp, which suited their wild spirits. The two greens continued to rise together for many turns, becoming something they would make a point of, competing for males and keeping a watchful eye on the other for any signs that they were close to rising. But as the turns went on, their bitter rivalry became something more like fond needling.

It was one such flight that sparked the next chapter of their life, as it had so many turns ago as well. Love was love, but flights were flights, and the two often took other lovers to bed besides each other. When they discovered that they both were pregnant, they decided it was a sign. Though born several days apart, Melea and her sister Atalantia were named on the same day. They weren't technically related, both having different parents, but they were raised like sisters and were thick as thieves through all their childhood. Atalantia took after their mothers; she was tall and strong, could wrestle boys, and was faster than anyone in foot race. Melea was quiet, good at hiding, and had excellent aim and a subtle sense of wit. But however different, the two got along brilliantly. They were always running around and playing together. There was never a thing one had that they wouldn't share with the other, not a treat or a toy or a secret. Melea would often mother her sister (and her two parents as well!), remembering things that they forgot. Like the fact that the healer said that medicine needs to be applied twice a day. Or when they were half a day into an expedition and forgot to bring any food with them, Melea would be the one to roll her eyes and produce enough for all of them.

In the end, it wasn't the girls' differences that drove them apart, but their fathers'. Atalantia's considered his duty done the minute the flight was over. If Alaria wanted to keep the baby, it was her business. Otherwise, a short flight between would have taken care of that. Melea's, however, wanted to be part of the girl's life. And while he tried his best to be nice to both of them, it was clear M'neus favored his daughter, making Atalantia jealous. As she got older, however, B'tar began to notice his daughter's talents and started taking more of an interest. This in turn sparked jealousy from Melea, not of Atalantia, but of B'tar, and the time she was spending with him. She started ignoring M'nus in the hopes of regaining her sister's attention. She was annoyed that B'tar seemed to have her sister's respect, and that she was so eager to please him. But she tried to be happy for her sister, who finally had what she wanted.

B'tar had an older son by another woman, who (much to Melea's annoyance) Atalantia started hanging around as well. Melea did not like him. He seemed designed specifically just to annoy her, and flaunted his influence over Atalantia to her behind her back, picking up on the fact that it bothered her. When she heard him bad mouthing her to her sister, she finally snapped. She might be soft spoken and mild mannered, but Melea was still her mother's daughter, and scrappy as all hell when angered. She tackled the boy, getting him into a headlock before he hit the ground, and had to be pulled off of him by M'neus. It was then that their mothers decided that both girls could probably do with some separation from their fathers. The girls talked it out and made up easily enough, going back to the close relationship they were used to. But the episode made her realize that her feelings for Atalantia might not be those of a normal sister. She hated to see her with someone else, and felt like she could kill or die just to make her happy. This had to be more than just friendship.. They were raised together, but they shared no blood, so surely it wasn't all that bad, was it? Still, she kept it a secret for many turns, fearing it would gross her out. When she did finally admit her feelings, Ata was understanding, though she said she couldn't think of her as more than a sister. Never really expecting her to, Melea said she just didn't want to lie to her anymore, and was happy just being able to stay by her side.

Shortly after the fight, Melea's father M'neus had left the Zanoma group and returned to a nearby Weyrhold. The one downside of the group was that with no golds, there was no way for it to sustain its own numbers or for its members to impress in house. The girls were of Impressable age, and M'neus sent word that there was a clutch taking place in his Hold, and that they were invited to attend as Candidates. Though largely a ploy on his part to try and get to know the daughter he had been missing, of course, the invitation was extended to Atalantia as well. Both girls were excited to stand, hoping to impress a green or a blue, then return to train with their mothers in the Camp. However, while both girls impressed, only one of them got their wish. Atalantia impressed to green Liath, while Melea was stunned to find herself the rider of the gold Arrakith.

Despite loving Arrakith with all her heart, Melea was distraught, fearing that everyone, including Atalantia, would abandon her now that she had impressed a gold (given the chromatic-heavy leaning of their former home). Quick and encouraging as always, Ata was able to comfort her before she became too distressed, promising that she would always remain by her side. For now, they decided to stay at the Weyr for the feel length of their training. After all, no one in the camp knew anything about riding a gold. It was a good thing too, as Arrakith's first flight hit Melea hard. It was like a fever, trying to consume her. She'd never felt a fire like that before. Just as it seemed like it would burn her alive, Atalantia found her way to her, taken by the same fever. They never talked about it afterward.. She gave no indication that her feelings had changed, and they never repeated the events of that night. But still, Melea felt like something between them was different now, and they seemed to share an even closer connection.

Arrakith's flight had been short and a little awkward and her clutch small, though not unusually so. One egg was little and didn't hatch at first, though something was clearly alive inside. Having grown up around whites her whole life, Melea didn't even batt an eye before taking the knife off her belt and cutting open the egg, letting a small boy near the back impress the dragon that was inside. But her actions caused a stir within the weyrhold, with many saying that there must be something wrong with Arrakith, and others saying she should have just left the thing in its shell to die. For the Zanoma girls, that insult was the final straw. With their dragons old enough to leave the Weyr, they decided to strike out as bandits in their own right, founding a little outlaw group of their own, modeled after the home they came from.

But right from the start, they began to run into problems. Their two dragons had mostly avoided each other in weyrlinghood, but in isolation they began to fight with each other a lot. The two were hoping it could bring them closer together, like it had for their mothers. But it was one thing when two greens fought, when it was a green and a gold, it just seemed so... uneven. Melea would frequently argue about it with the virulent gold, but in the end she often couldn't help but take her beloved dragon's side. The girls would usually make up afterwards, understanding that there was nothing you could do when it came to your dragons, but it still caused some tension between them. Even so, they spent several turns together, just the two of them, and those were some of the best turns of her life.

As time went on, they picked up a few travelers along the way. One of them was a feline handler called Taran. Though she tried her best to hide it around Melea, she could tell that Ata was besotted. More than that, she could tell her sister secretly longed to go home and rejoin the Zanoma camp. With her green, there was no reason why she shouldn't. She was the only thing holding her back...

After a lot of thought, Melea finally told her that she was going back to the Weyr, making it out like it was something Arrakith wanted. Atalantia, of course, was not happy about this. She told her she had no intention of going back there, which Melea had expected. The two argued about it, and finally broke apart on bitter terms. Even if it was what she had planned, Melea was heartbroken to have lost her. Not knowing where else to turn, she reached out to her father, who had since moved to Western Weyr. She told him about everything that happened since he left, and the reasons why she started pushing him away. He was surprisingly easy to talk to, and after a few days, she was more of herself again. Though she'd only intended to stay for a short visit, he father showed her around the Weyr while she was there and persuaded her to stay, at least for a while.

She'd originally meant to strike out and find some way on her own, but it occurred to her that she never really stopped to think about what she was planning to do in life now that she was alone. She had spent so long chasing her sister, chasing her mothers' shadows, that she couldn't say for certain what it was she really wanted. Was being a bandit really the life for her, or was it just a nostalgic ideal of what she thought she ought to be? Did she really long for freedom as Atalantia did, or did she just long to be with her friend? She decided to stay in the Weyr for a while to figure it out, and has been there ever since.

With thread's return, Melea was hoping to see more of her former group return to the Weyr. She worries about them a lot, being out there on their own with no shelter. She knows a lot of the Weyr are not big fans of the outlaw group and their thoughts on thread fighting, and what's worse is that she's starting to see their point, which is hard because she considers these people her family.

Dragon's Name: Arrakith
Dragon's Size 48
Dragon's Personality: Arrakith is a firecracker; her mind touch is the flame she'll never breathe. It can be warm and comforting as a hearth on a winters day, if she likes you, but when angered it burns into you like the heat of the desert. She is unforgiving of her enemies, pursuing them endlessly until she feels they've been met with justice, and no one tops her hit list faster than those that would cause harm to hers, emotional or physical. But while she usually considers her anger just and righteous, Arrakith knows there are times when she lets her temper get the better of her. Melea's distress after losing her friend woke her up to the part her rages played in that, and she saw how becoming blinded by it could lead to her hurting those she loved most. Since then, she has become better at checking her temper and keeping herself from getting annoyed at things that don't ultimately matter that much.

Arrakith is relentless. She is the kind of dragon that will never be satisfied, much to her rider's despair, who just wants her to be happy. It doesn't matter how much or how little she has, she is always striving for something more. It seems she was simply not built to stop and appreciate the little things in life. She feels a lot of pressure as a gold to accomplish great things. She wants to be noticed, she wants to be loved, and she is a little insecure on both accounts. No matter how much Melea or others assure her that she's doing fine, she never feels like it is enough. She's her own worst critic, feeling (even at her young age) that she should have accomplished so much more by now.

Arrakith is known to be savage in flights. You think she's beautiful? Oh that's cute. You want to catch her? Yeah, good luck with that. She wants to be seen for her strength and skill above her looks, and finds flattery difficult to trust in. If she does fall in love, it will happen slowly. Not over the course of a single turn or flight, but many. She is not easily won over, for love or friendship, but knows how to be cordial with most dragons and will enjoy their company. Still, when someone does finally penetrate her inner circle, she is very much like her rider in her regard of them. She could be in the middle of a conversation but would disappear mid sentence if she thought she heard her rider upset. She is very protective of those she considers close: her rider, her children, and anyone else who manages to win her loyalty.

Arrakith loves her children like nothing besides Melea, with a fierce protective passion. She is not the most mushy or doting mother in the world, but she'll pursue her children's interests like she pursues everything else: relentlessly, and will accept no slight or risk be put upon them. Despite her sometimes grating attitude, Arrakith doesn't mind, and in fact truly enjoys, collaboration. She loves the excitement of working together to solve a problem. She wants to be seen and heard and her ideas acknowledged, but she doesn't mind being quiet and listening to others as well and iis happy to share praise and the credit too. Though she shows ambition, Arrakith would prefer to work on a team of equals than to lead (although she would rather lead than be ordered around herself!). Willful and a little rebellious, she doesn't like it when someone else is in charge, but doesn't mind if no one is.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? Melea is not terribly bothered by the lack of rank afforded her as a goldrider in the Weyr. Arrakith has her own opinions (mostly that she deserves everything and these people should worship her like a god) but in a way, she actually likes the struggle. She wants to be the one that won everyone over. Who people praise not because of her color, but because of her strength and daring. She kind of secretly wants to be better than the other golds too.. And she's impatient. So if she can jump to the front of pack with hard work and talent (instead of seniority), then all the better for her! She's never been afraid of getting her claws dirty, and she has enthusiasm in spades, even if it's sometimes misguided.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? Melea was, frankly, blindsided by the return of thread. She figured keeping dragons in Weyrs and training them was really just a matter of tradition. She, like everyone else on Pern, assumed thread was gone for good. With its return, she mostly worries about her family out in the desert, and secretly wishes more of them would return to the Weyr. She certainly doesn't mind fighting thread with the queen's wing, but she has no real strong feelings on it either. She doesn't necessarily consider it her 'duty' or think that others are honor-bound to do the same.

Arrakith, for her part, is more eager than ever to prove herself in the wake of thread's return. She will catch all the dragons, save everyone, lead the wings into battle (nevermind how she'd actually accomplish that last one with Melea stuck using a flamethrower). She wants to show everyone that she's more than just a gold, she's a warrior, just as good as any blue or green or bronze. And she does, genuinely want to serve her Weyr as well.

What are some of their dreams for the future? Melea wants to see Arrakith have a healthy clutch, blaming herself and her own turbulent emotions for the difficulty of her first flight. Not that she considers whites unhealthy, and woe betide anyone who tries to imply the same, but she's focused on making sure her gold's flight goes well and her next clutch is large and in good shape. Arrakith, meanwhile, wants to be a ranking member of the Weyr, preferably Weyrwoman, but at least somewhere on the council.

Anything else you want to add? Most, if not all, of the characters mentioned can be opened up as adoptables if people are interested.

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: Marin
Rider's Age: 23
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: (Formerly) Harper
Which Weyr are they Stationed? High Reaches Weyr
Rider's Looks:
Pale as a fish's belly with similarly pale blonde hair and amber eyes, Marin has been mistaken for a hallucination before ( a point of pride for her, actually). She's slender, long-limbed, and tends to stand hunched forward. If she stands up straight she'd a petite 5'3”, hunched she's closer to 5'. She likes to dress in formal, dark clothing and has made a habit of staining her lips various berry hues in the belief it makes her more striking.

Rider's Personality:
Marin knows she stands out like a chalk streak on a chalk board but she embraces it. She enjoys the looks and whispers, as she has a keen sense of hearing and when people gossip... well, she'll all too eagerly listen. She spent most of her time in the records rooms of High Reaches as part of her apprenticeship and learned the fables, rites, and teaching songs fervently, wholly buying into the traditional notions of the Weyr.

As such, she's ambitious but she also is perfectly content to bide her time, listening and watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to cut with swords or logic. She is not a particularly emotional individual, driven mostly by logic and intellect, she makes her choices based on carefully weighed pros and cons. It's meant she's thus far lacked social engagement and often comes across as cold or calculating.

And, really, that's not far off the mark. Her interest is first, and foremost, herself. If she agrees to something it is because, in her perspective, she comes out ahead in some fashion be it knowledge, gossip, or power. She's also not above manipulating and blackmailing her comrades into things. This manipulative, selfish streak earned her a few admirers and more than a few rivals when she chose to enter Candidacy at the age of 15. She was growing bored with the scrolls and the lore and becoming more interested in dissecting the social interactions of her peers.

Marin might be cold, and calculating, and logical to a fault... but that's not to say she doesn't have emotions. She feels them the same as anyone else, but she's grown adept and controlling them. This makes her a wonderful confidante and listener if you've earned her loyalty. Her breadth of knowledge and interest in gossip often means she has insights that can ease (or wind up) the supplicant.

Rider's History:
Marin was born and raised in High Reaches Weyr, her hero-worship of the dragonriders and the vast ballads of great deeds of the past lead her to the Harpers and their scrolls and histories. She entered an apprenticeship as soon as she was able and poured herself into the studies but it was only a few years before she'd devoured the flashier tales, committing them to memory, and found her fascination with the stories fading. She wanted something more, scrolls and books were wonderful for theatre of the mind but she craved more real-life encounters, opportunities to truly live out the tales she'd grown up on.

Thus, at the age of 15, she chose to begin standing as a Candidate and left her Harper history behind. She could turn her attention to detail and excellent memory to the task of learning the rites of the Dragonriders, the ebb and flow of power among the leaders... the more practically applicable knowledge.

She stood for four Turns, each time entering the Sands as hopeful and as teary-eyed as the other Candidates leaving heartbroken over the failure to attract a dragon. Her attitude began to wane as her dreams of joining the legends of yesterturn grew more and more distant. Was she too logical? Too ambitious? Or, dragons forbid, not logical enough? Self doubt began to creep into her and she compensated by throwing herself into her studies and her work.

Marin developed a reputation for being a first-class Candidate because of this but even then she had few friends and never for very long. Rumours of her coldness competed with the obvious evidence of her dedication.

Finally, the fifth time she stood upon the Sands, mentally preparing to walk away from the spectacle alone once more, Marin found herself knocked over and nuzzled by her golden Druuzith. Since then, her life has been a whirlwind of activity as Thread returned and she seeks her position in the greater pecking order of the Weyr. It's easier to figure out because of her dragon but she is not the only one with ambitions to honour the great riders of the past.

Dragon's Name:Druuzith
Dragon's Size 47', a large gold, Druuzith is solid and physically intimidating where her rider is diminutive.
Dragon's Personality:
Druuzith likes to know things, anything. She's calculating, intelligent, and fully willing debate whatever sociopolitical philosophy you may ascribe to. Druuzith bores easily and thus delights in stirring the pot to see how everyone reacts, this tendency to both be a highly capable listener and an extremely selfish manipulator is among the things that drew her to Marin – Marin understands.

She's approachable and not outright hostile but she has a tendency to talk down to you and speak to others about you even if you're standing directly before her. She makes observations and delights in theorizing about the state of the social affairs of the weyrfolk and dragons. It's not personal, you understand, she just wants to understand... to know, never mind she'll turn around and use it to her advantage!

Perhaps the most interesting quirk of Druuzith is that she positively adores Blues. She finds them adorable, petite suitors. She adores them to the point where she will preferentially take the company of a lowly blue over an esteemed bronze if made to choose. This appreciation completes the circle of adoration and brings Marin's attention back around to the everdyday heroics of the greens and blues of the Weyr.

Both Marin and Druuzith share a deep pride in their Weyr and a deep sense of belonging. Druuzith wants very much to contribute to the whole of the Weyr – and, of course, make a name for herself in the pursuit thereof.

Finally, Druuzith absolutely loves babies. Human babies, dragon babies, wher babies... infants of all kinds draw her attention. She especially loves her own babies and the thrill of the Flight, and well, all the opportunities for Blues to try to catch her. She's as regular in Rising as the sun, once a Turn, but is positively cuthroat during a Flight – she has torn a brown from the sky for daring to try for her before she was good and ready.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr?
They are content and connected. The traditions give them comfort in the knowledge that their role, purpose, and opportunities are clearly defined... there is no guesswork in how or what they should do. There is protection in numbers, access to resources especially of the Blue variety, and familiar rhythm to life that they fear would be absent elsewhere.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return?
It's terrifying but it's also a magnificant opportunity to prove themselves as leaders and supporters. As far as they are concerned there is no greater chance to take advantage or advance than when people are afraid, wounded, and vulnerable.

What are some of their dreams for the future?
Marin wants to have her name in the teaching ballads, almost desperately so. Druuzith merely wants to develop a harem of Blues and rise high enough in the ranks that her word carries weight without being so high that all blame when things fail falls on her shoulders.

Anything else you want to add?
Not that I can think of currently. They'd be an intellectual, philosophical, hero-chasing pair whose character development would really depend on the consequences of their actions. I can see them growing ever more desperate (and reckless) to gain attention or settling into a stately sort of rhythm. It would be fun regardless!

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name:Nynna
Rider's Age:49
Rider's Craft, if Applicable:Courtesan, perfumery
Which Weyr are they Stationed? High Reaches Weyr
Rider's Looks: Nynna is a short, full body, and bountiful. She has red curling hair, full lips, and heavy lidded deep brown eyes. Her skin is pale and splattered with freckles.

She wears a harness to give herself a bit more support and dresses finely, Nynna walks like she owns the place and dresses like she is in charge. She has an eye for colors and jewelry and tends to have her hair pinned up in elaborate designs.

Rider's Personality:Nynna always knew she was important and High Reaches views on Queens has just strengthen the knowledge that she is more significant then all the other riders. She certainly now belongs where she knew she always had, the elite few.

She is a proud and confident woman who believes that she is always in the right. That may be your opinion but she certainly knows better. She has a biting tongue and takes pleasure in finding her opponents hot buttons and pressing them. Her goal is to make her opponent a red face raving mess in face of her calm serenity and she is not below gleefully starting gossip with a dropped comment.

Nynna loves her family, to the point of being a bit smothering and over protective. She dolts on Pyrieth's bronze and gold offspring and their riders. She certainly will do her very best to see them be successful in life. Her ambition has no limits and she is eyeing the Weyrwoman. One of these days, she will shine and everyone will listen to her.

Rider's History:Nynna is the youngest daughter of her family, her rather lately born brother J'in being the baby. Her family was large, six children, two sons and four daughters but well off. Her father was a silversmith and her mother a dancer. Nabol was their oyster at the moment and things were at her finger tips. She was going to be a beautiful clever courtesan like her mother, shower with gifts and attention.

She never consider impressing, it was not for her, this sliver of a chance to impress something important, because why would she care to impress anything less then a Queen? She was young, barely 16 and perhaps a tad bit bored, having eyes for nothing but the queen egg that did not seem to be moving.

She made small talk with her fathers friends, making valuable contacts when the shell began to rock and midway through the hatching spilled out a elegantly patterned gold onto the sands. Nynna found herself captivated to watch the precious creature clean herself and then prowl the sands like kitten, just hits of the grace that would come with age and growing into her limbs.

Impression was not quick or easy, it was near the end when the queen seemed to give up and tried to climb up into the stands. It was a start of something she never expected and lead to a need to rise in power and rank.

Dragon's Name: Pyrieth
Dragon's Size45'
Dragon's Personality:I'm going with my bad self, bad self, bad self.
Pyrieth is unabashedly a hedonistic gold. She lives for her own pleasure, her own wants, her own desire. She is greedy and rather lazy. But she is also a realist and acknowledged her rather towering pile of faults and picked someone with drive and ambition to even them out. She loves her Nynna but she also know that Nynna has glaring faults that no one else can comment or reign in but Pyrieth.

Together they even out a bit. Nynna makes sure that her flights last long and help choose the best bronze to father her clutch and in return she reigns in some of Nynna power hungry ways before it can become problematic and tries to smooth some of the more abrasive facets of her beloved it.

Age 33

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr?Where else would they be? No really? Living in the wilds? Living in a hold, though some do have some better night life. But really, the Weyr is where they are and where they should be.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return?Nynna excited because this proves they are right and everyone else is wrong. Pyrieth is less then pleased because thread means more work then just having clutches.

What are some of their dreams for the future? Nynna wants to be Weyrwoman. Pyrieth just wants to laze about in the sun with attractive bronzes waiting on her.

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: Cyma
Rider's Age: 20
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: Weyrbrat
Which Weyr are they Stationed? High Reaches Weyr
Rider's Looks:
User Image
- Medium build
- About 5'7"

Rider's Personality: Cyma is a fairly good expression of the old Nature vs. Nurture debate - She's grown up in the structured and rigid world of High Reaches, yes, but some of her sire's personality shines brightly in her, thinking of everybody in the Weyr as her family and other Riders like brothers, sisters, and other siblings, in a loose sense of the term. She has an open heart, caring about everybody, a trait already present before she'd ever Impressed Beboth. She doesn't tend to outwardly voice it, but she believes strongly that any rider that Impresses any dragon, regardless of rider gender and dragon color, is a perfectly capable rider of achieving any rank they so desire, so long as they're skilled enough for it. This includes the idea of brownrider Weyrleaders and blue Wingleaders. Her opinion of whites, though, is more typical of High Reaches.

Rider's History: Native to High Reaches Weyr, Cyma was born the daughter of a Blue rider and Western Green rider Nemo. Was she ever bothered by the fact her mother rides a Blue and her sire a Green? Not at all. She knew early on two things - She'd Stand to Impress as soon as she was old enough, and she probably has a LOT of brothers and sisters from multiple different mothers. Like what dragons her parents ride, she never questions this fact. Having grown up at High Reaches, she's loyal to the Weyr.

She stood for three years before she Impressed - And not even for the eggs she'd been Standing for! Cyma's assumption had been that she would Impress a blue or green, since that's what her parents rode. Instead, the single gold of the clutch had plowed through the girls Standing for her, leaving at least two marred, before plowing over Cyma to awkwardly sit on her chest. Despite the pain of injury, it was love at first eye contact for both. Cyma now bears some scars on her legs and front from that first meeting, which she wears with pride.

She bore one child, from Beboth's virgin flight, and has purposely worked hard to not have more yet.

Dragon's Name: Beboth
Dragon's Size 50'
Dragon's Personality: Beboth is definitely not the sort to gleam and shine, despite her color. Quite often, she can be found getting cleaned off by Cyma, as she's rolled in the mud yet again, or found something to cover her gold hide with. It's not that she's ashamed of being a gold, though, she's quite proud! She just likes the way the mud feels. Her favorite is the silt found in rivers, as it's perfectly smooth. She has no preferences of dragons, sometimes seen flirting with the tiny blues despite their inability to ever catch her.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? There's nowhere either dragon or rider would ever be except High Reaches. They might visit Western so that Cyma can visit her sire, but they have no intention of ever staying there or anywhere else. High Reaches is the Weyr they both grew up in, it's the Weyr they know, and the Weyr they both intend to fight for and even die for, if they must.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? Cyma accepts it as part of her duty - Being a Rider means fighting Thread, and fighting Thread means she's at risk of injury. She'd happily bear the Threadscore scars, though - Like the scars on her body from when she'd Impressed Beboth, they're a sign of what she's accomplished in life. Beboth is excited, ready to fly in the queen's wing so Cymahers can use the flamethrower to torch what escapes the wings overhead. Being out there in the thick of it excites her, she could just Rise in joy!

What are some of their dreams for the future? Beboth only dreams to do the best she can, and maybe roll in all the mud she can on Pern, but also clutch some of the best Thread fighters on Pern. Cyma's dream is to also do the best she can. She doesn't presently aspire to be Weyrwoman, though she's aware that whether she plans it or not, there's the possibility of it happening one day. She also dreams of the day her dragon stops rolling in the mud and actually stays clean for a change.

Anything else you want to add? I actually had a half-finished app for Cyma as a candidate, but couldn't resist using her for this! I intend to quest her and her dragon if I don't win heart

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: Aquilina
Rider's Age: 57
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: N/A but does pretty good with Healing.
Which Weyr are they Stationed? High Reaches Weyr
Rider's Looks: User Image

Rider's Personality: Aquilina is not a woman you want to mess around with. Though compassionate, to those she deems worthy of her time or who is innocent, and loyal to her home weyr, do not think that she is will ever lie down for anyone to walk over her. A noble woman with great ideals, Aquilina works hard to make the ideas she has come to fruition.

Although noble at heart, Aquilina learned at a young age that you cannot be nice to everyone, though you can easily make them believe you are that way to get what you want. A rose with thorns galore, Aquilina is not afraid to use her tongue as the weapon she knows it is. Blunt about many things, unless she is forced to tip-toe around, she has been known to cut many people to the core.

Knowing the world is not just a happy go lucky world, where everything goes your way, Aquilina has a very cynical and pessimistic view upon it. Because of this, if things do not seem to go the way she saw them going, as well as making her plans go awry, Aquilina is known to get very resentful and hold grudges. This is shown easily, to those in the know, when it comes to Zheria, the Weyrwoman of High Reaches. Of course, Aquilina is as sweet as can be towards her superior, perhaps a bit too sweet at times.

Rider's History: Aquilina was born to a miner and kitchen worker in Nabol Hold. The third oldest out of six children, the young woman learned quickly just how hard and horrible life could be. Aquilina always wanted to run away from her life in the hold, seeing her two older sisters succumb to marrying the first man who caught their eyes and ending up in pretty abusive relationships they could not escape.

At the age of fourteen, Aquilina got her wish when she ended up being searched. She was quick to jump at the offer the dragon rider gave her, not even going home to pack anything. She was putting her life and family behind her and looking towards a new future.

She took to the life of a candidate easily, finding hope in the chance of impressing a dragon of her own. A turn easily went by and before Aquilina knew it, she was standing upon the burning hatching sands, waiting to find her lifemate.

What surprised the young girl the most was the fact she did manage to impress. She had expected, from all the talk of the other candidates, to do this at least a couple more times before she did end up impressing. Another thing she didn't expect was for a lovely gold to be the one she did impress. Caracath was a lovely gold, large for her size, but so very beautiful to Aquilina's eyes.

Their weyrling year went fairly easy and with Caracath's urging Aquilina fell into her knew role with ease. It was strange, going from a young girl who never had anyone notice her, to being the center of the weyr, well almost the center of the weyr. It was nice, having responsibility to work with, having people look up to her, some of them even seemed to fear her a bit. The politics were easy to learn as well, as she saw the men, when she and Caracath got older, begin to try and vie for her affections, hoping that she would help to elevate them higher.

As she grew older, Aquilina began to get close to the Weyrwoman at the time, Lisella. She grew close to the woman, spending time with her, the two might even have been called friends. Perhaps that was why when Lisella chose Zheria over her, Aquilina was hurt. Everyone had assumed it would have been the older woman, not the younger one, and yet, this was the way things had turned out. Aquilina, for her part, just smiled and congratulated the other woman. It was clear the two did not get along, but for the sake of the weyr, Aquilina was not going to start anything with the new weyrwoman.

When thread finally returned, Aquilina, like many at High Reaches, were ready and knew it would be there. She had taken to studying the old charts of threadfall, working with the starcrafters to try and pinpoint when the next fall would appear. If there is any intention for her to work against Zheria in the future, there is nothing that shows it.

Dragon's Name: Caracath
Dragon's Size 51'
Dragon's Personality: A very motherly dragon, Caracath adores dragonets and loves to have clutches. She likes to baby all of her hatchlings, perhaps a bit too much for some of them. This causes her to be a little estranged from some of the colder golds, but she feels that family is something important to her. This also extends to the young ones of the weyr, be they the weyrbrats, candidates or the new weyrlings. She likes to offer herself if they ever need advice, a place to hide or someone to just talk to.

Although very motherly and sweet, Caracath has a bite that can wound. Her tongue, just like her rider, can be used for sweet words that hide a barbarous attack. She will not hesitate to cut anyone down who threatens the weyr, herself or her rider. She also does not take kindly to those who try and change the order of things. It has been this way for years and there is a reason no one has changed it yet.

Caracath is a gossip and likes to have blackmail on people to use, or for her rider to use, just in case it is ever needed. This leans more towards the older dragons and especially towards the golds. If they do not fit with the way Caracath believes that they could, there is no reason or place for them in her weyr.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? It is home, the place that finally gave her a freedom that her birthplace never would. Aquilina is protective of her Weyr, fighting to protect it from the outside as well as the inside. The pair would never think about leaving. There is no place they would rather be.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? The old enemy is back, just like they knew it would. While it brought death to those who were not prepared, Aquilina and Caracath were proud that High Reaches was able to sound the call. Though they cannot fight thread directly, they do their best to fight in their own way. If anything, the return of thread gives Aquilina a vent for her resentment towards Zheria.

What are some of their dreams for the future? To see Zheria get humiliated. A dream that Aquilina has had for quiet some time, ever since Lisella passed her over for the younger woman. Seeing her fall from the height she has been put at is something that Aquilina secretly wishes, though it is also something she does not want to come to pass quite yet as that might bring chaos to the weyr. Aside from this, they wish to see the Weyr get stronger and continue to grow, perhaps even get a bit of a higher rank then before.

Anything else you want to add? Nope.

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: S'eran (Sariseran, also goes by Eran in the crafthall)
Rider's Age: 28 (March 4th)
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: A respectably skilled tailor
Which Weyr are they Stationed? Western Weyr
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Rider's Looks: S'eran is a pudge-faced creature with a little more meat on her bones than most. Found late into her 16th year, her eating habits were never really tamed. S'eran keeps her hair short, because that's the only way it coils, and it gleams Hanrahan red in any light. Her round face is rampant with freckles that stand around her bright green eyes, and she suffers her father's short stature, standing a couple inches below what is considered 'average' height. (So basically a pudgey pepper-anne)

Rider's Personality: S'eran is a friendly type, and would rather help out with a project than lead one. Sweet of tongue and nature both, she's happy just doing her clothworks all day if she's not needed elsewhere.
As a dilligent worker, though, she realizes that her dragon needs appropriate attentions, and attends to the gold's hide and appetite readily. S'eran endeavors to learn instruments from some in the band, but hasn't yet found the time or patience to pick one up, herself.

Rider's History: S'eran was raised in the tailorcraft, and had a pretty decent skill with a needle. For a while, she was considered the best in house, and she was proud of the clothes she produced. Although she insisted her tapestries needed work any time she made them, many of the crafthall were jealous of her productions there, as well.
Late In her 16th year, she and a few of her craft were sent for by the weyr to attend to some of the formal garmentry for a hatching. She attended her work with as much pride as glee, as she touhed up the hems of those clothes, and set up to make new stock for the next batch of candidates.
When that was done, the Wingleader invited her troupe to the hatching to watch, and, curious, the lot accepted. With one of the eggs on the sands a golden hue coveted by the mother, it was hardly a surprise when a little bundle of gold tumbled onto the sands. One, two, three candidates maimed for not being slow enough... A fourth, when a boy didn't move from her path, and the dragonet looked over the candidates with a forlorn whine that dismayed its mother.
When its bright blue eyes fell on the crowd, and more pealing arched over them all, it was worried the hatchling's chosen wasn't here at all, until one of the crowd had to reach out to keep some idiot tailor from jumping off the stands. After some convincing, the unsuspecting, particularly rotund girl made for the steps and landed in an embrace with the pealing dragonet, to lead her off.

Dragon's Name:Pennyth
Dragon's Size 49.5 (Plus a little Ploosh)
Dragon's Personality:Pennyth is a playful creature, and would rather prance and frolic and scare the runners than run those bedamned drills! She likes to encourage others to live a little and have some fun, even if there's something that needs to be done, and always seems to have a little song to sing... even if the tune only makes sense to the singer.
Distractable, Pennyth is also a bit self-indulgent, and will happily enjoy a slightly larger portion than she might ought. Since her rider feels the same way about food, there's rarely any suggestion to cut back, so Pennyth pudges in her straps just a little.
In what is an odd twist for a gold, Pennyth's preferences seem to run towards the bronzes and blues. To that effect, her first Flight was won by a large blue. The flight was extremely short for a Gold, and resulted in a particularly lackluster clutch that got S'eran a massive scolding. Apparently, 6 Blues, 4 Greens, and 2 Browns was... Inadequate. (Admittedly, she had eaten her first kill and half her second before she could be convinced to blood instead)
Pennyth's second clutch was a little better and bore out a bronze, but she has yet to have produced a gold. S'eran, on the other hand, has put out four children, and is attempting to remain an 'aunt-like' influence in their lives, appreciating her foster parents but not wanting to completely alienate herself from them.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? Pennyth is delighted at the prospect; there are tons of friends around and plenty to make still! Plus, all the cute boys! S'eran adjusted slowly; the idea of sharing a bed that meant nothing didn't quite sit with her very well at first, and she didn't like the idea of 'living in a cave' as she put it at first. She grew on the cave and the boys, too... maybe that was Pennyth, toying around with her...

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? Igh... Work. Pennyth groans about the extra responsibilities while S'eran misses her tailoring free time, since some of that has been shot, but on the whole, they're not bothered by it to extremes.

What are some of their dreams for the future? Pennyth doesn't look to the future much, but her she does have some short goals and one longer one. The short goals are mostly based around new boys flying with her, while a longer-term goal she keeps in mind only when she begins to glow a week or so before flight, is to outlast the boys that have turned out only browns and bronzes; she wants to give her S'eran, and the world! a few goldlings to admire!

Anything else you want to add? I love both these patterns!

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Rider's Name: Rikah
Rider's Age: 26 Turns
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: Drudge
Which Weyr are they Stationed? High Reaches Weyr
Rider's Looks: Rikah stands at 5’4” and has a lithe figure, toned from riding her dragon. She has pale skin with very light freckles. Her slightly wavy, thick hair is cropped just past her chin, and it is a light shade of blonde. Her eyes are a medium grey, and they are very open and attentive. She has a scar from Thread burns that runs across the bridge of her nose and touches each cheek.

Rider's Personality: Rikah is a humble girl with a sense of wonder in the world still present in her soul. She struggles with being outgoing, but enjoys making friends and is happy to approach new people if they seem pleasant to her. She loves to encourage other people, thinking that if she could grow from such a low station in life to such a high one, that anyone could potentially accomplish anything. She’s a bit of a daydreamer, and unless she has something specific to focus on, her mind will usually wander to the more fanciful side of things.

Having grown up as a drudge, Rikah was shielded from much of the knowledge in Pern for the majority of her life, and still finds it difficult to grasp some concepts as she learns them. She is driven with her heart, which has a lot of love to offer. However, she’s been hurt too many times. The Thread stole a child from her, so she lashes out against it with a personal, fiery vigor. This is currently her main obsession, something that prevents her from being content. Because of this, she finds herself frequently restless, searching for something or looking for something to do with her hands. Even though she is a gold wingrider, she’ll still sometimes go down to the kitchens and assist, or help the Candidates with their chores.

Rider's History: Rikah was born at a minor hold in the Northern territory, to a drudge mother. She never knew her father, a journeyman who had only made a brief stop in the Hold, and who her mother had fallen dearly in love with. The hold was often teeming with brief visitors like that - people who just wandered in and out, rarely staying long enough to maintain the relationships they had created. Rikah did not regret the fact that she never met her father, but she often imagined different versions of who he was. Perhaps he was a Lord Holder’s son on the run from the complication of noble life. Perhaps he was a gentle merchant who hadn’t wanted to leave her behind. Her mother never told her details, and perhaps she never asked because she would have rather dreamed.

Rikah grew up as a drudge due to her parentage, often being one of the many workers cleaning the rooms of guests. She enjoyed the job, for the most part - it kept her hands and body busy, and allowed her mind to wander. She was good at cleaning, so she rarely received cruel words from the people she worked for. Grateful to have a roof over her head and food in her belly, Rikah was content with where she was in life, for the most part. Her mother grew frailer with age, but never lost her heart. She was an inspiration to Rikah - someone could life a full life as a drudge, and not regret it.

Despite being low on the rung of social scales, Rikah became notorious among the other drudges for her beauty. Older women would tell her that surely some nice young man would come and sweep her away into a marriage arrangement, bringing her to great heights in the world. The idea appealed to Rikah as being incredibly romantic, and she frequently daydreamed about it as a thought that could never possibly come true. At age fifteen, a handsome boy a few years older came to the hold and stayed in one of Rikah’s rooms. As it turned out, he actually was the son Heir of a Lord Holder from somewhere very far south. He was traveling with his father on a mission to arrange a marriage at Tillek Hold, and he was incredibly unenthusiastic about the whole ordeal. He confided his worries to Rikah, and began to call her into his room at indecent hours to speak with her. She fell deeply in love with him in the brief time they had together, and apparently so did he. But at the end of the week he was staying in the hold, he left, and she never heard from him again. Two months later, she found she was pregnant.

Elja, her son, was born without complications. It was not unusual for drudges to have children out of wedlock, and not particularly unusual for them to have children at such a young age themselves. Although Rikah would never again see her one-time paramour, she fell deeply in love with her son, hoping for the best for him. Better than her, at least. She encouraged him, as a young one, to find a craft he was interested in. He spent a lot of time between the ankles of the drudges in the kitchen, where Rikah’s mother worked, and found a love for cooking. Raising Elja together aged both Rikah and her mother quite a bit, but she was always grateful for the amount of love in her family. Her son was growing to be a sweet, humble boy who would make a difference in the world.

As soon as Elja turned eight turns old, Rikah arranged with some travelers to take him to the Southern Hold where he could learn Cooking Craft. She missed him dearly, but was confident in her decision. Shortly after he left, Riders came to the hold on a Search. They found her to be an eligible candidate, despite being so close to aging out at twenty-four. Her mother saw this as an opportunity for Rikah to also rise above her station, just as she wished for Elja. Finally understanding her mother’s aspirations for her child, Rikah agreed to leave the hold and travel to the High Reaches Weyr.

Rikah’s time as a Candidate was enlightening. She’d never been given so much to do with her brain - so much reading and learning songs and history. Chores came more easily to her, and she found great comfort in still having to do menial work. She wrote to both her mother and her son whenever she could, and received many more responses from Elja, as her mother was not greatly literate. After ten months in the Weyr, Rikah impressed - with shock and humility - a Gold dragon. She found her third great love in Sofieth, and the pair worked well together, growing side by side in maturity and happiness.

Two months after Sofieth’s hatching, the Thread returned. Rikah received notice from the Southern Hold that Elja had died in the chaos of the return, at age fourteen, as he had gone outside to retrieve a shipment of ingredients. Rikah was broken by the news, but she did not fall into depression. Instead, she grew voraciously into an unbridled rage, a personal feeling of vengeance against the Threadfall itself. How dare it take the one thing that was dear to her? She was so consumed by the rage, that in her first flight against the Threadfall she was careless and found herself scored across the face, the thread narrowly missing her eyes but still somewhat mutilating her visage.

For the last Turn, Rikah has been recovering from her emotional wounds, but she still harbors a deep rage towards the unnatural force that stole her child away from the world. Having Sofieth helps a great deal, because at least the world hasn’t taken that away, but Rikah feels that perhaps she will never be able to love anyone else again. Until she meets someone, she’ll valiantly fight against the Thread the best she can.

Dragon's Name: Sofieth (pronounced: so-FYE-eth)
Dragon's Size 47’
Dragon's Personality: Sofieth is a cynical, sassy dragon whose down-to-earth attitude balances out Rikah’s tendency to fall into daydreaming. She frequently has something to remark in any conversation she overhears, and does not hesitate to broadcast her judgemental or sarcastic remarks into Rikah’s head. Rikah loves this, and thinks it’s hilarious, so Sofieth enjoys this part of herself, too.

Sofieth tends to agree with Rikah in most matters, especially regarding the fighting of the Thread. Although she never met Elja, Rikah’s son, she feels that the boy must have really been something special to hold such a spot in her Rider’s heart. She’s not filled with the same amount of heated need for revenge against the Thread, but Sofieth is happy to perform the act she was created for in helping Rikah to fight Thread.

Sofieth is very excited about the prospect of one day taking flight and having dragon hatchlings. She has not done so yet because she is still young, and she just simply hasn’t had the urge yet. However, she’s very social, and she does keep a tab on the eligible males around her. Sometimes she wonders if she hasn’t felt the urge for Flight yet because of how her Rider feels about making connections with people, since Rikah has been so guarded about her friendships since the return of Thread. But regardless, Sofieth feels that she has to be there for her Rider in whatever way she can.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? Rikah is happy to be living at the Weyr, where she is making a difference in the only way she believes counts anymore. Sofieth is happy to be with Rikah, and they are very content about their position together.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? Rikah has an almost personal dispute with the Thread, and fights against it with extreme enthusiasm. When the Thread returned, it killed her son, and she was devastated by the event. Sofieth was content before the return of Thread, and is somewhat discomfited by the presence of it. However, she is willing to do whatever she can to make Rikah happy, and if fighting thread will help her Rider work past her grief and return to normal, Sofieth will assist.

What are some of their dreams for the future? Rikah is very focused on the present and the past right now, and how it relates to her. When she looks into the future, she sees only herself fighting the Thread with a flamethrower, on Sofieth’s back.

Sofieth hopes to be a mother one day. She’s a rather social dragon, and enjoys making friends. She’d like to help Rikah sober up through her emotional issues so she can make meaningful relationships with other human beings again, leaving Sofieth able to focus on herself for a little while.

I'm Lookin' to Strike Gold!

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: Sophrania
Rider's Age: 32
Rider's Craft, if Applicable: Healer
Which Weyr are they Stationed? Western Weyr
Rider's Looks: Sophrania isn't the kind of woman who would stand out from a crowd if you were looking it over. She has green eyes with medium dark skin and medium dark hair. Nothing about her is particularly striking - from her height, weight, to how she presents herself. This seems to be purposeful.
Rider's Personality: There is a gentle heart somewhere in Sophie, she wouldn't have become a healer if she didn't care about people, after all. However, years of being elbow-deep in her craft has shown it's wear on the young woman's patience. Being gentle isn't always the quickest way to solve a problem, and once you're done bleeding to death there will be time to soothe over any frayed nerves. Her bedside manners will never be praised, but the level of skill and attention she has can't be doubted.

Or maybe they can be. Sophrania really doesn't care what others think of her as long as she can do her job and perhaps do it without being disturbed. After all, if she can do this thing in 1 candlemark like she's planned it out instead of having 3 people get in the way and make it take 4, she'd appreciate it. Having her time get wasted is number one on the list of ways to make this woman hate you - and no, hate is not a strong word in this case. Sophie's general emotional scale is a 3-to-5, with 3 being general apathy. It isn't that she doesn't have it in her to care, she just has better things to do than care overly strongly about things in passing. Ain't nobody got time for that.

That said, there is a 1,2, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 on Sophie's scale, and if you manage to breech into the point where she considers herself to 'care' about your existence, you'll either have a surprisingly tender and sweet friend or a woman who will make your life a miserable cesspool of existence. Currently, only her bonded, Serath, is a 10 on her scale of caring. It isn't that Sophie doesn't care, it's simply that she doesn't have the energy needed to be everybody's best friend and also take care of everything else. In fact, it's unreasonable to try and make everybody like you and being genuine is better than being liked.

For all of her carefully planned time to get things done as efficiently as possible, it doesn't seem like Sophrania has any real hobbies. Give her a day off and she'll spend the entire time trying to find something that engages her enough to feel like it was a day well spent. She usually ends up making more work for herself anyways out of some need to feel like she's actually doing something 'useful'. Find her on a good day, and under her general irritability you may get a glimpse of an intelligent, frustrated, and overwhelmed woman who perhaps is simply overworked and doesn't know how to take a chill pill and relax. Especially when people question the worth of her bonded in relationship to how she pulls her weight. Earning her place suits this Goldrider just fine.

Rider's History: The oldest of 7 children, Sophrania lost her overly-patient ways very early on, always being pulled from this or that to tend to someone who was crying or had a snotty nose or scraped their knee. While not unloving, her frustration often showed through and the ginger hand she should have extended in patience was quickly lost as 'This will just be a minute' turned into 'I spent 15 minutes fixing that and you already ruined it', and a to-the-point 'I'll just have to do this again' mindset was nurtured. While not entirely accurate, her straightforward and no-nonsense way of tending to wounds was a boon when she decided to remove a mouth from the household to pursue a craft.

Being in a crafthall, however, drove the young woman stir crazy - now everybody was up in her business and frankly, while there was always some sort of wound to tend to, there was something about the setting that simply didn't settle 'right' for Sophrania, despite diligently tunneling through it. Perhaps sensing her growing frustration, the Master she apprenticed under assigned the young woman to tend to Candidates at a Hatching at the closest Weyr to the hall - something all good and fine in Sophrania's books. She'd never been to a Weyr and despite Searches, none of the blues that poked their heads about wherever she'd been never gave any notice to her. Not that she particularly cared for dragons - they had never been a particular lifelong goal for Sophie, after all. But the change of setting was appreciated.

Even if the tension in the air was not. They were just dragons after all....weren't they?

The first hatchling hit the sand - and a few candidates on the way out - and all of the blood surprised Sophie. Still, following suit of the usual Healer on hand, she set to assist as best as she could, even if she didn't have the mind to try and reassure the Candidate in any way. A second followed not long after the first had been finished being patched up, and the seed of irritation was planted. But not as much as the fear that glazed itself around her heart when the largest egg on the sands hatched - and a red eyed, angry, hissing, golden beast rolled from the egg - and through candidates indiscriminately. Fear soon gave way to frustration, and then anger. Not for the Candidates, though it was an unfortunate reality.

4 maimed and 2 dead and now she would have to clean them up.

A 5th Candidate - a boy - under claw, Sophrania's anger bubbled up. "Do you have to make my job more difficult, you little Deadglow? Get back in your egg if you're so unhappy and stop inconveniencing all of us!" she snarled - though the serious edge in her voice was unintended. However, as the red eyed golden hatchling turned on her, she didn't find that Fear creeping back in. She was too mad to worry as the angry maimer of Candidates approached her with more calmness than she'd shown previously.

All they've begged for is for me to hatch and turn my eyes towards them. Am I not special to you? Does my beautiful golden sheen not impress you?

Sophrania furrowed her brows. "Absolutely not. Now get your s**t together and stop making my life difficult," she reached out to grab the gold's horns, not knowing she shouldn't, to turn her head back towards the sands when the red of her eyes began to ebb, and rainbows began to bleed into them.

Well you impress me, Sophraniamine. Your Serath sees fire in you and I will make sure they all mind it. Her hands stopped short of the tiny golden head as she stared back, dumbfoundedly. It would be notable that the young woman didn't cry or show any extreme excitement at being 'chosen' by a Gold by surprise, and perhaps to some frustration that she still attempted to study her craft (at the detriment of sleep) while also tending to the needs of her dragon.

They transferred to Western when Serath was 5 as Sophrania wanted to venture out into a fresher frontier to practice her Healing - and also because Serath needed a chance of scenery.

Dragon's Name: Serath
Dragon's Size 41'
Dragon's Personality: If adult dragons could harm people, Serath is a gold that one would expect to have more death under her plate for all her fire, ire, fierceness, and impatience. Serath expects the world to be a very specific way and it isn't - much to her frustration and hissing and spitting. She is vocal about her unhappiness but also is inclined to immediately fix everything that she sees is wrong with 'her' world - through force. This gold can put her nose to the grindstone and get results - just not necessarily gentle and nice ones. She is not witty or smart in a traditional sense, even if she's intelligent. Simply put, she would like an immediate fix more than a good one, even if it has to be revisited later and inconveniences people. After all, her time is the only time that matters - and that others may not see that isn't something that she's really concerned about. The only time that is more important than Serath's, however, is Sophrania's and it is only out of consideration of her bonded that Serath takes anything related to a 'chill pill'.

That said, Serath's trigger is very sensitive. The slightest implication of offense will set this gold off and she will absolutely battle to blood if she must, and it is only a stern word from her bonded that can calm any battle to a point of discussion - if Serath will even listen to outside reason. She's not generally a pleasant dragon to be around 90% of the time and will rumble and purposely frighten away anybody who gets too close that isn't her bonded or invited. Because Serath is wound up so tightly, little things - like a jumpscare - can put her in a bad mood for candlemarks on end.

The other 10% of the time, even her most mild of moods can be grating unless you are her bonded. It is only with Sophrania that this Gold has anything regarded as a 'tender' mind and the love she has for Hers is the only positive pure emotion that she could be said to have. She is even somewhat tempermental during and after flights and beyond her bonded, seems to only love the adult Hatchlings that come to visit her fairly often - even if she will nitpick them - lovingly, of course.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? Western Weyr grates on Serath's nerves and she only tolerates it because Sophrania seems to enjoy the freedom that the Weyr offers her compared to older, more traditional Weyrs. Then again, Weyrs in general grate on Serath's nerves.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? Thread hurts people and makes Sophrania's job harder, much to her frustration. And when Sophie is frustrated, Serath is beyond livid. Excuse you, Thread, you're not a part of this exact world that Serath has in her mind and she needs you to stop. It makes this gold much more irritated than she usually is.

What are some of their dreams for the future? Serath wants to make the world fit into her 'perfect' vision of things and perhaps the first step towards that is getting Hers to perhaps the rank of Masterhealer. Sophrania isn't as concerned with her rank and instead would simply like to be able to practice her craft in peace as much as possible.

Anything else you want to add? These two need the biggest chill pill in the world. While Serath is very aware of what status her metallic hide should give her, Sophrania frankly doesn't care. Serath would be 7.

I Just Can't Wait to be Queen!

Rider's Name: Lorana
Rider's Age: 25
Rider's Craft, if Applicable:
Which Weyr are they Stationed? High Reaches Weyr (the striped Gold)
Rider's Looks:
User Image
Lorana is about average height, 5'8" and a lithe 145lbs. She is very strong physically, or as strong as any person who is of good health and doesn't have an issue with strenuous activities.

Rider's Personality: Lorna is a fighter through and through. She's always been of strong mind and body and isn't afraid to voice her opinions, even if everyone else doesn't want to hear them. She is strong willed and won't go down without a fight, no matter the circumstances. She does know when to back down but will still keep a firm standing on whatever it is she is pursuing.

She is extremely loyal, but also likes to know hard facts and get both sides of any story before coming to a decision about things. While this can get her the stink eye she doesn't exactly care. While people she knows may be like, 'why don't you believe me?', it's not that she doesn't. She still wants to know the whole story. It's only fair that way.

Rider's History:

Dragon's Name: Arith
Dragon's Size 45
Dragon's Personality: Arith is a very open and level minded Gold.

How does the pair feel about living in the Weyr? They enjoy it very much. The way HR is structured is perfect for them and they love that some of the old rules haven't died out just yet. While they are all for the freedom Western has to offer they personally admire High Reaches the best.

How does the pair feel about Threadfall's return? They are willing and ready to fight it by any means necessary, even though it means they will be using a flamethrower and always in the Queens Wing. They do wish they could be up higher, and able to do more but they do what they can where they can. They will be extra vigilant when it comes to threadfall and ensuring the safety of the other inhabitants of Pern.

What are some of their dreams for the future? They hope to become seekers, while being Head Weyrwoman is all fine and dandy these two believe they could best serve the Weyr by searching out new candidates for hatchings yet to come.

Anything else you want to add? Thank you for the opportunity.
