With all the excitement surrounding the water golem invasion that was currently ongoing, there was a general dower feeling settled over the island. One person that actually seemed in decent spirits over the whole thing (in as good spirits as could be expected given everything that has been happening) was Zeke. Not because he enjoyed fighting his way from building to building, but because these attacks provided a bit of exposure to a new Fear based aquatic life form(of sorts), and he was all over that. He'd actually needed a new notebook, having filled in the last one, and had needed to brave the elements to cross the grounds to the Death headquarters. Now, new office supplies in hand, he needed to get back to the dorms. Just outside the doors, he paused to scan the grounds for any immediate sign of things that shouldn't be there.

Lysander wasn't enjoying the risk of monsters invading the island and wasn't enjoying much of anything. Still, rather than look mopey he mostly just looked fine, keeping a cheery face over the top of everything else that was running wild in him below the surface.
He wanted to go to the headquarters, but he refused to make the journey without someone else there who looked capable of handling themselves.
This had resulted in him loitering in the doorway of the dorms, tall enough he was hard to miss. He was dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and a black t-shirt with a loose purple shirt open over the top of it. It was unusual because he was almost always seen in something formal. There was the hint of dark tattoos visible at the very edge of his collar.
He gave Zeke a slightly anxious nod.

The one and only time Zeke had had any interacting with Lysander was during the truth ring, and even then it had been mostly indirect. Still, he was easily recognizable, and at the nod Zeke would tip his head in return. Then tilted it as he took in that anxious expression. "What's up?"

"I was just going to go over to HQ." he said. "But it's pretty dangerous out there right now with the sea things and whatever." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Was waiting for someone big and strong to come along and protect the newbie."

He glanced out into the rain before looking back at Lysander, brows arched. "Well, I'm heading that way if you want to tag along." He hadn't been having [too much difficulty with the water beasts that kept roaming the island. Without waiting for an answer the Mist stepped out into the rain, drawing up the hood of his jacket as he did so. The trainee was free to come along, or stay. It didn't seem to matter one way or another to Zeke.

Lysander did tag along, lazily sauntering behind the other guy. He didn't seem to mind the rain too much, or at least had no real way of keeping it off himself.
"The weather really sucks here." he said as he briskly made his way to the other building.

Zeke didn't seem to mind the rain either. He he hadn't bothered to draw the hood of his jacket up, and he wasn't walking at a quickened pace. It was a warm rain, and it made the entire island smell fresh and alive in a way that it seldom did, and certainly never had back in Salt Lake City. He glanced back at Lysander as he spoke, and flashed him half a smile as his hands disappeared into his pockets. "It isn't usually like this. A little bit of rain here and there, but this is abnormal." He shrugged. "I'd say enjoy it while you can, but the golems running around attacking people make that hard." THough they were interesting to him. "Something up, it has to be." As to what, he wasn't sure.

Lysander nodded. "I can't even imagine what normal is like here. It's done nothing but rain since I got here and you can't even move around freely." He shook his head. "I just don't want to end up killed. Is this sort of thing something that happens here? Abnormal things, monsters running around, that kind of thing?"

"Yes," he began, though paused and amended. "Kind of. Not this exact thing with the biblical rains and water golems, but strange s**t of varying natures, yes. This is the first time we've had to deal with this particular problem." For as long as Zeke had been there he'd started getting fairly desensitized to all the strangeness and danger, but thinking about it now, he had to admit that some of the random s**t he'd run into would be pretty awful as a fairly fresh newbie.

"That's really messed up." Lysander said with a grim expression. "I guess living i here you just get used to it, to having things be on the edge of weird." It certainly seemed like it and people had gotten really angry when he'd suggested it was impossible to adapt to.
"I always believed in magic but I just didn't ever think I'd run into it the way I have on a lot of levels here. I've not even been here long. I don't want to get killed going to work in the mornings."
He looked concerned. "I'm glad you'd walk me over, you'd think there would be people to help new hunters get places right now."

At this point Zeke was really desensitized to it all, but he tried to think back to when he was new. When seeing monsters and other strange s**t still shocked him. It didn't seem like it had taken too long for him to adapt. However, there had been a lot that had happened after he'd been on the island for a while that had had lasting effects at him. The Sahara, both times, the mind ******** the Legacies gave them. Being set on fire... "You do get used to it, but the strange s**t never really stops being strange. The way you react to it, or danger, is what changes." He shrugged , pale eyes flicking off the path in front of them to scan the more open area they were walking through. So far so good. "No one wants to get killed. We're all just trying to survive, but survival is a team effort." Which was funny coming from him, but Zeke couldn't deny that he wouldn't be here now if not for some of his fellow hunters. "If you can catch people on their way from place to place I'm sure they'd be happy to walk with any of you trainees, but we just don't have the numbers to have people stationed all over just to walk back and forth between the buildings."

"I guess that's true." Lysander said. "It'd be hard to have everyone catered to. It's mostly just inconvenient. Hopefully these things and this whole situation goes away soon. I'd like to see what it's like here normally." It was an island after all, and it could in theory be really nice when it wasn't raining and incredibly dangerous.
"The team thing really gets driven home doesn't it?" he said, though wasn't sure how he'd felt about the team spirit he was shown on twitter.
At least people seemed more pleasant in person.

"Very sunny, very tropical. Your typical island paradise, though it's not safe to go in the water around here, so I wouldn't suggest going for a swim." Much to his chagrin. Zeke loved beaches, and swimming, and the ocean. "And yeah, I mean. You new trainees can assume we're all being assholes for making a big deal about it, but we've all been in situations where our survival depended on another person being there and knowing what to do. It's important." He frowned, a hand coming up to rub at the back of his neck. Feeling the rough edges of the burn scars that crept up from his left shoulder. He'd been called an a** and a killjoy for trying to explain it before, and it made him a tad less loquacious about it now. Pushing the idea on the new trainees wouldn't make them embrace it. It might even make them rebel against it.

"Yeah I don't think swimming is something I'd risk, sunbathing though is fine." It didn't even matter to him that he had the memory of a whole year trapped on a brutal island with the sun as a constant companion, he'd let go of those memories like letting go of a dream and lived a life without them.
"No one said you guys were assholes, it's just something that's been a bit overwhelming. Hard to change mental gears right away from being everyone's boss and your own man to needing to rely on other people. But you live and learn."

People had called him an a**, but it wasn't a point worth splitting hairs over so he let it go. "Or rather, learn and live," he'd offer with a soft chuckle. "When you get to the point where you just sort of accept that the weird s**t is real and bad things are out there and ready to eat you, it gets a bit easier I think. Instead of worrying about whether the thing your up against is actually there, you jump right into figuring out what to do about it."
