The sunburn was too much today, she must have overdone it. Moaning, Sam dragged herself into the safety of the cove, avoiding the pale ghosts that hung about even deeper within. As much as she liked the repetition of each day, the lack of mental stimulation was starting to get to her. Perhaps that was the real punishment for hurting the squid - too much time.
Muttering to herself, she scooped up some water to quench her thirst, winced with each movement in doing so, and then laid back. Above her were runic tiles she had almost forgotten about. Perhaps those warranted some investigation, though she was entirely loathe to move now...

The heat and sun had finally gotten to him and Zane dragged his nearly heat-stroked a** into the cove. Shade was a welcomed friend while he could feel the p***k of a possible sunburn on his shoulders.
He contemplated collapsing on the stone floor and laying there, half in the shade with his toes peeking out from the entrance, but there was probably too much foot traffic for that. So, begrudgingly, he moved further in, eyes adjusting to the lack of harsh bright light. The ginger, however, was not as careful as he could have been and tripped...
"Son of a - " He gasped, tumbling forward, bracing himself for a harsh landing only to...oh crap.
He fell on someone. "Shoot!"

Sam immediately began to scream. Part of it was from being startled, but the majority was from the pain that suddenly overwhelmed her as hot skin made contact with literally anything other than air. She recoiled away, the noise echoing in the cave and in her ears. Several hunters made startled noises and looked in their direction; a few others didn't move at all; one immediately exited the cave just in case.
Breaking out into Russian curses, she gave herself another cursory glance just in case anything else had happened--skin breaking and what not--before turning a sharp look on the intruder. "Let your eyes adjust before moving around in here!" she chastised.

The scream echoed off of the cove walls and managed to pierce his ears. Immediately he was rolling over, hands clasped over his ears and his eyes were squeezed shut.
"Stop screaming!" He cried from his spot on the floor. "Fudge cakes," he cursed while attempting to sit up.
"Hey! I wasn't the one lying so close to the mouth of the cove!?"

Sam muttered something indelicately under her breath as she hugged herself, trying to focus on anything other than the pain of sunburnt skin drawn taut.
"The weapon is supposed to help protect against this," she said to herself, though it was loud enough to hear from his position. "The weapon is supposed to help. Why isn't he, then?" She paused, though the strain on her face hinted at some mental searching before she gave up with a sigh through her nose.

His glasses had been knocked off when he crashed into the ground and Zane cursed, hands fumbling against the stone while he tried to locate them.
"Shoot -" he cursed, stilling because he could see where the fuzzy outline of the girl's body way. "Hey can you - " he stopped, because she was talking and he thought he was squinting in her direction.
Quietly he asked; "Yours hasn't been really talkative lately has it?"

"He normally isn't anyway, but...yes."
It was hard to describe. Like having a clogged ear, maybe, but more subtle. You could feel the blockage but couldn't reach it yourself. It was getting harder and harder to summon the scythe as well; if she was honest with herself, it was beginning to spark some fear.
Sam looked up at him. "Did you need something?" she prompted, since the other man had cut himself off.

Lerna had been uneasily quiet and not naggy at all lately. In fact, he couldn't remember the last time he had heard her scolding him. That was concerning and yet- still nothing.
But if he wasn't the only one...
Her question had him refocusing, head snapping her direction and eyes squinting to try and make out if she was actually looking at him. Pride didn't want him to admit that he couldn't see without his glasses but...he needed them.
"Are my glasses by you? I...can't really see without 'em." He mumbled, trying not to be any redder than his sun-kissed skin already was.

Sam squinted about her. "Not that I can see...Did I knock them off? I apologize if so." She wouldn't have normally, but the circumstances were special: glasses weren't island trees that reappeared at the beginning of each day.
"Ah. Wait." Her fingers brushed against something that made a soft sound against the ground, and she delicately plucked up the glasses by one arm to offer to the other hunter. "Here. I would offer something to help clean them, however..." Her state of dress wasn't exactly pristine. Sam washed her outer and inner layers of clothes alternatively, but that didn't make them clean--not without something that could work as soap.

"It's fine." He waved a hand in what he thought was her general direction. As far as he knew tripping over her had sent his glasses flying and he'd already been that d**k who fell on someone and aggravated their sunburn. "I mean, as long as we find them." He was more useless than normal without them.
Seeing was kinda a big deal after all.
Luckily, Sam found them and offered them to him. He grabbed them quickly, fixing them back on his face and squinted around the smudge. "S'fine." His scarf had patches that were mostly okay for cleaning and he used one to do something. "This place blows," he huffed, scooting away and leaning against some part of the cove.
"Thanks, by the way. I probably woulda been stumbling looking for them for a while."

"For a while," she repeated, toneless and tired. "Yes. However long we are to be confined here."
Against her better judgement, Sam brushed her fingers around the edges of her sunburn. She missed her gloves, her room, food rations, cleanliness in general. The repetition of the same day, seemingly, wasn't so hard beyond these creature comforts. But the vagueness of time, the lack of reasoning as to what had led them all here...That was irritating.
"How long would you say we've been here?" Sam asked abruptly.

The conversation he had with Peyton came to mind as did the question of will we ever get off the island?
He'd noticed that people had started disappearing but he had hardly any attachments that he didn't pay it too much heed until everything else started to feel like it was slipping away too.
"I was keeping track once, on a rock." It was about as productive as he got outside of mundane routines used to keep him alive. "Got to eight-seven days before I stopped." He didn't know how much time had passed since then.
"Wasn't helping anything." So there'd been no point in continuing. "So...about three months at least. Probably longer. It's hard to remember."
Zane drew his knees up and slung his arms across them quietly observing Sam. "Wonder if coconut would help with the burn."
