He tried kicking a coconut.
It didn't work too well; instead, all Nash got was a searing pain in his toe and a coconut that bounced off the edge of the cove and came rolling back to him, as though mocking him for his lack of soccer abilities. Nash gave it a mutinous look and sat back down, pushing his hands through the sand just to have something to do with them.
There was really, honestly, nothing to do here.

Al had been wandering past in not much more than something we'll just pretend are swim trunks when he noticed Nash on the ground messing with sand. "You building a sand castle too?"

It took Nash a moment to realize he was being spoken to, his head jerking up, his expression narrowing just for a moment before he realized it wasn't that shithead Dean who he was totally going to kill. It was one of the hunters from the truth night, though Nash couldn't recall his name.
"No," he said, then added, "I'm just sort of...sitting here."
It was a lame answer. Nash eyed the other.
"What's your story?"

"Why no?" Al asked in reply to the no. "It's a vacation. Cut loose, be stupid." He shrugged at Nash. "Story? Like, why I'm a hunter - or why am I here? Cause you see this huge tower of water very similar to the one you likely experienced..." He was trying to be his own brand of shithead at least. so Nash wasn't too far off.

The boy was given another look, as though Nash couldn't quite be certain if he was being sarcastic or not. But he seemed to be serious, a genuine statement of vacation, which was was sort of weird in and of itself for a variety of reasons.
"Why you're a hunter, really. Your name, your history, whatever." Nash pushed the sand around him into a little pile. "And this is not a vacation I would have chosen."

The only part Al had been sarcastic about was the giant wave that flushed them here. He was rather quite serious about the vacation part. It wasn't like they fell down a hole or anything."Still a vacation," he assured. "A rare moment of not having to kill s**t, study s**t, or errand s**t." Yes, he gave an actual fist pump. "So enjoy it." At the questions though he took a breath, a sigh, and then carefully went to address them one at a time. Starting with a warning, "Fine, but I expect you to answer the same s**t." "I'm Al," he offered his hand. "Technically that's just my middle name but I've gone by it since coming here. I came here to fight the evil s**t that made my life miserable since a younger age." At his history though he seemed thoughtful, it was a strange thing to ask someone especially this late in life. "I guess the short story is I saw s**t and it was getting me in trouble. My 'rents were about to ditch me so I ditched them first and went to Deus. I regret it sometimes. I miss them a lot and now that I'm older I think we could've worked it out. But at the same time I never would've met the people I've met and probably wouldn't be the person that I am now." Shruuuuuuuuuuug."I uh. Not sure what else to throw in there, but it's your turn now." He steepled his fingers together. "Who, what, where, when, why, how, and all the s**t or whatever you just asked me." His hands came together to make a combined finger gun that dropped to point in Nash's direction along with a wink. " GO."

Well. That was sort of true, he had to grudgingly admit, but Nash still wouldn't have picked a beach as a place of respite. He gave the other a narrow eyed look, but didn't dispute it this time, instead just pushing more sand into place to try and maybe build a castle after all.
The offered hand was met, after only a second of hesitation because Nash hadn't been looking at him and didn't see it, with a black tattooed one, giving a shake. "Al's a good a name as any other," he said with a shrug. "My real name is November, but everyone calls me Nash."
Almost everyone. October didn't count.
Nash slowly molded the sand between his fingers. "You got along with your parents, then?" he asked, frowning - not at Al, but at the sand, which was being uncooperative. "I'm not sure I miss mine, but I haven't really seen mine in a very long time, anyway."
His lips quirked up in a faint smile beneath the mask at the finger guns. "I've only been on the island a few weeks now, and I'm still getting used to s**t. I used to see shadows a long time ago, but I never really thought about it until I got older. Parents were a set of hippie lawyers who took off on a find yourself journey when I was a kid, haven't seen 'em since. I was raised mostly by my older brother, October, he's also a hunter here. I went looking for him when a few years ago, after he disappeared, and met some cool shits online that were kinda of the same mindset, and then we all got recruited here."
He glanced sideways at Al.
"Got a lover or siblings or anything here?"

"Well, nice meeting you Nash." He didn't share his own real name, not that it was really a secret, he just doesn't think about it much if at all really. People seemed pretty set on sticking with Al, anyway. But something had occurred to him, "They missed a huge opportunity. Nova. Much cooler nickname." "Sometimes. Mostly my mum. It was complicated between my da and I," he admitted a bit sheepishly. Despite his stern my way or the highway attitude, Al still missed him a lot. The fact was that he simply was never going to see them again regardless how he felt now. No matter how sorry he was. He fell silent and listened curiously to Novembers tale and then suddenly scratched his chin. "How old were you?" He asked curiously of when the parents left. At the additional questions, he blushed a little, "I do have a lover though. Noah. But naw, no siblings. Only child. What's it like having a brother?"

Nash made a face. "Nash is my middle name, actually - and my brother calls me Nova, but I don't really let him if I can help it, it just reminds me of being a little kid or something, somehow."
He patted a small base into the sand, squaring it up to form what would start to be a castle, at some point. Nash said, "I know how that goes. I was always a little bit more close to my mom than my dad, though they were both really ********' weird."
Not that they had been bad people. Just...weird.
Really ********' weird.
"I don't know a Noah, but that's cool, that you have him. Her? Them?" Nash pushed the sand towards him, cupping his hands to try and form a tower now. "It's...I dunno. I was only fifteen when they left, my brother was eighteen, so he was already an adult and s**t. He could take care of us, at least until he disappeared to this place."
He shrugged a shoulder. "I'm not sure yet how I feel about both of us being here, but I guess...I'm glad."

"Him," Al confirmed of Noah's gender. "I think he's all I've got most days. I don't really have many hobbies or friends. Like..." He waved a hand vaguely, trying not to offend present company should they become a friend in the future. "...Like in general I mean." He looked confused about the uncertainty regarding the family reunion though. "Why did you become a hunter, anyway?"

Nash bobbed his head in a nod. "No, I get that. It's hard to find people to rely on and s**t. Making friends is a lot harder than it seems for a lot of people, sometimes it's just sort of making it up as you go and then suddenly you're watching each other's backs."
He was trying, and failing, to make a turret for his future castle. "Its good that you've got someone to lean on, though," Nash added. "As for why I became a hunter, I was looking for my brother, at first. I did a lot of online stuff, and eventually ran into other people, on this online forum, that were kind of into the same sort of shadowy s**t. We met up, and then we got recruited all at once."
He shrugged a shoulder, Nash frowning at his decrepit castle. Or really, blob was a better word for it.
"And that's history, really."

"Mind... if I?" He knelt down opposite the mound of sand to look it over. "So you basically succeeded in your quest then? You'd think you would be happier about that." kuropeco SORRY SORRY SORRY for delay TnT

Nash gave a small snort as Al sat down.
"I mean, they're my people and all that, it's just..."
He waved a hand.
"Quests are never ending, gotta keep doing s**t. Keep meeting people and all that. You happy with your guy?"

"Quests aren't never ending," Al said as he got up and walked closer to the water line where he scooped some water up in his hands and raaaan back over to splash it over the mound of sand, moistening it a bit more appropriately before kneeling down to check it again. It was at least wet enough now that he was able to start on a cylindrical form on that side. "You just completed that particular quest chain," he was building as tall as he could to test the limits. "Time for a fresh new quest with new rewards, don;t be bummed your old one's over." At the seemingly random question at the end he paused to raise an eyebrow. "Noah? Yeah, he's the best. Why do you ask?"
