Nash was wondering, not for the first time, what there was to eat around here.
It wasn't helping that he'd already managed to trip over absolutely nothing in the sand and wind up face first on the ground, spitting out the salty taste of sand and water and heat. Now he was wandering around aimlessly, his clothing feeling itchy and hot against his flushed skin. Too many layers meant that he was overheating constantly, but too little layers and he risked burning every inch of him within seconds.
He was still fully clothed - or as fully clothed as he could manage, really, wrapped in his shirt, plaid shirt, coat, and scarf, mask pulled up around the lower half of his face, hood up. It was sweltering, really; he was trying to debate now if he wanted to just keep going or pull an October and lie down on the sand and do nothing.
Nash ended up leaning against a tree, breathing heavily and hating everything.

Roving the island was really the only thing there was to do when you were bored and Kade was often bored. He wished he'd thought to take a pack of cards in a waterproof baggie so he could at least play a game or thousand while they were waiting to be rescued. He and Peyton were doing some kind of dance and there was always the chill pair of Zeke and Ever, but sometimes you just wanted to turn off the social and just be. It was the sound of ragged breathing that drew his curiosity because it meant one of two things. One was that someone was about to pass out from an asthma attack. Two meant that two people were having a good time and he was going to peep. Just for a second. Instead he found someone dressed in far too many layers and panting in the heat. Frowning, deeply, he reached out with a light touch. "Hey. You okay?"

He was too caught up in himself to hear the footsteps of someone drawing nearer, and it wasn't until there was a tap on his shoulder that Nash realized he was no longer alone. His head jerked up, though with his lack of energy, this was a halfhearted gesture, and he wound up leaning back against the tree, eyeing his new companion.
"...Kade," he mumbled, exhaling a breath, trying to ignore just how ******** uncomfortable he currently was. He tended to keep to himself a lot - sort of - but, well. It was a small island and there were only so many of them here; quarters were, unfortunately, close.
"Need something?" Nash asked, his voice coming out a little winded.

Disapproval was not an emotion that Kade was ever really all that comfortable with but it flowed thick and rather harsh as he looked at the sweating, panting November. Stupidity was almost personally offensive for reasons he didn't quite grasp or care about. Reaching out he immediately tugged down Nash's mask. "I need you to not die of heat stroke. That'd be good. I don't know much about this runic s**t but I am pretty sure that those bandages can't help that." And, because he was angry, he pulled back the hood as well. "You need to strip."

Nash shook his head, though not as a negative, mostly just to get the hair out of his eyes. "I'm not gonna die," he said, voice much less muffled without the mask, though without it, the flush on his cheeks was much more pronounced and obvious.
He made an annoyed sound in the back of his throat as his hood was yanked back as well, a tumble of long, black and green hair falling free, wet strands sticking to his sweat dampened forehead.
"I know you're into that sort of thing, but I don't just strip for anyone," said Nash, coughing. The sun was so bright. "Did you need something, or did you just come to bother me?"

The desire to pick Nash up, throw the other man over his shoulder, and drag him somewhere darker. Cooler. There was a cave near the beach they were using as a kind of headquarters and a few enterprising sorts had created a makeshift shelter over the past few weeks. Only, Nash was almost as tall as Kade was, and he wasn't going to go easy. Arms crossed across his tanned chest as eyebrows raised. "Yeah, I need you to chill out. Literally. What in the world made you think wearing all this on a humid island was going to be a good idea?"

The glare on Nash's face only matched the sweltering heat in its intensity. He didn't know Kade all that well, but he'd seen him around plenty of times, including that truth or truth night that now felt like ten years ago; the laid back, lazy eyed look was gone now, replaced by one of annoyance on Kade's tanned face.
Nash's scowl deepened.
"I - " He started, and then stopped, as the flush deepened as well, though only half from the heat.
"It's either this or burning to death. There's not a whole helluva a lot of - " He drew in an unsteady breath. " - choice here on this island."
The tree was now feeling like a great place to lean against.

Kade would be one of the first people to admit that he was not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination. But even he figured that he could come up with something better than sweating so hard that you could barely breathe or being crisped alive by the sun. "Aren't there palms down by the beach? You could steal a big frond or something, use it like an umbrella. You'll still burn but it'll be slower, give your skin time to heal, until you're a nut like me." He held out his brown arm. Normally he would have been a bit more conscious of personal space and respecting 'the bubble' that other people seemed to want and need. But Nash looked like he was about to pass out and that panicked the brunet more than a little. His arm came to rest under one of the other man's armpits, supporting his weight somewhat. "C'mon. We need to get you some water. Can you walk with me?"

He gave Kade's arm a cursory look, then glanced back up at his face, which was nowhere near as flushed as his own. Nash felt the stirrings of annoyance in his stomach, but it was subsumed by the fact that he felt like he was melting into a puddle.
The same arm snaked under his own arm. Nash attempted to jerk away, failed at this, and wound up half slumped, a hand gripping Kade's shoulder.
"Fine," he mumbled. "You win."
There was a pause while he made his feet move. Or tried to, for the most part.
It was slow going.
"Uh. Mostly. Yes."

Relief came rather quickly as Nash gave in without a fight, concern turning into a cocky little grin. "Of course I win. I always win." Except he didn't but that was neither here nor there. You didn't get up to your balls in debt to an illegal gambling syndicate without being able to 1) lie to yourself and/or 2) being able to convince yourself you really did always win. Which was pretty much the same as 1 but there was a subtle difference. He'd explain it to anyone who wanted to listen but, surprisingly, no one ever wanted to. Kade's voice was kinder as the invalid beside him tried to get moving. "Take your time. We're just gonna go down to the little stream over here and you're gonna put your feet in. It'll help lower your body temp, and it's in the shade, so you won't burn." It took time but they both made it over to the swift-running bit of water that was less than a foot deep in most places. It was cool though and would be enough to both hydrate Nash and cool him. "Now just strip down some and sit. Drink some water." He pulled a collapsible cup someone had given him out of his pocket and offered it to his companion. "It'll help."

He rolled his eyes - it seemed Nash still had the strength for that. "Are you always this nice when you're - " He had to pause to take a breath, sweat beading on his forehead and sliding down his cheek. " - helping out apparent invalids with a liking for plaid?"
Still, it wasn't terrible. And Kade was at least trying to be kind. Or maybe he actually was being kind, since Nash didn't find himself picked up and hauled over to the beach and he considered that a win in this particular scenario, really.
He slid his hand from Kade's shoulder and accepted the cup with a vaguely suspicious look before deciding it was useful. Nash slid himself down onto the sand beside the water, because standing took more effort than he was willing to put forth anymore.
A drink of water came first, Nash's lashes fluttering with relief at the coolness in his throat. "******** yes that tastes amazing," he muttered, eyes closing momentarily. He let himself have one more drink, then set the cup aside, plucking at the front of his clothes with resignation.
"Fine. Stripping it is."
The coat came first, tossed aside. Then the plaid shirt that had been underneath, crumpled and discarded. Underneath that was his long sleeved, hooded shirt and the mask; the latter came off first and was dropped with the rest, and then Nash took ahold of the hem of his shirt and pulled it - somewhat ungracefully - over his head and dropped it.
Underneath, the black tattoos that snaked from his fingers up his wrists came up most of the way over his arms. There was nothing on his chest, but drawing up the entire length of Nash's spine was a dotted black tattoo. A spiked vine like the ones on his legs was curled around it at intervals.
He kicked off his shoes, Nash's long hair falling over his shoulders, eyes half-lidded. He really could have just slept right then and there, keeled over sideways and passed out, but he made himself move anyway, movements slow and sluggish.
"It is," he grumbled, "too ******** hot. How are you even surviving?"

Was he always this nice? "Only to cute boys like you, darling." He winked, because it was outrageous, and because it was completely expected. "I like plaid too. On other people." Or on the floor but that went without saying...didn't it? It would not have been very true-to-self had Kade not watched the show. It wasn't meant to be sexy, and wasn't sexy, but it was at least interesting to see all that white skin come out. After a few weeks most people, with the exception being those who never came out of that dank-a** cave, were some variation of tanned or burnt. To be so pale was interesting. Even more interesting was the ink following the line of vertebrae up Nash's spine that had the Chilean whistling under his breath. "Now that's hot." Ignoring the bubble of personal space he stroked one of the dark lines admiringly. "Whomever did that did good work." The grumble about how Kade was surviving had him rolling his eyes. "I'm brown. We do the heat better than the cold but I was raised in the sunshine. It's just who I am."

Kade was given the flicker of an exasperated look that was only half its usual strength as Nash yanked unceremoniously at one of his shoelaces. "Yes, because you always meet cute boys while stranded on a desert island with little food or water," he said in a deadpan voice, finally managing to get the damned lace free. He pulled one shoe off, followed by his sock, then reached for the other.
Fortunately - or maybe unfortunately - he was too focused on getting (mostly) undressed to be too bothered by Kade's unceremonious popping of his bubble. He jerked, just a little, at the finger on his back, but settled down after a second, though his back was a little tense.
"I paid good money, so they better be good work," said Nash, still working at the laces. "I figured since I'm already pale as hell, I might as well make a good canvas of it all."
Compared to Kade, he was a veritable ghost. Nash glanced over at him, frowning slightly.
"I was raised to respect nature, and yet, here I am," he said, flipping the sky a middle finger before resuming his task. "I burn too easily, it's a ******** nightmare."
He shoved his shoe from his foot at last, and then the sock, Nash taking a moment to just breathe, his eyes momentarily closing as he tried to get air back into his lungs. Over here, it was much cooler, the water providing a faintly lighter atmosphere, but he'd been layered in too much for too long.
A hand rose and swiped across his forehead, running through his sweat dampened hair.
"Fuuuuuuuuuck."

Eyebrows raised at the testy comment and he couldn't help but shrug with a careless air. "Well it used to be a bi-annual event but it's happening to me more and more. Must be fate. But we have plenty of both food and water; you just can't be picky." And it went without saying that Kade was assuming his current companion was going to be the Grand High Overlord of Picky. A hard snort came at the idea of 'respecting nature'. "Please. My dad is Native and even he would give this place the middle finger. You can respect nature and want to desperately get your hands on a bathtub and air conditioning." Two things he personally wanted more than he wanted to keep breathing. And a bed. Even the hardest, shittiest motel bed would've been better at this point. Unable to resist Kade stepped into the cool-running water, scooped some in his hands, and let it drizzle onto Nash's forehead. "Chill out, darling. You'll feel better."

Nash shot Kade a look over his shoulder, expression almost comically annoyed, because yes, he was in fact picky, and he was under the distinct impression that Kade had already guessed this somehow just from his few irritated comments.
Well. It wasn't like he was all that subtle, really. Nash exhaled a breath and said, with a roll of his eyes, "A steady diet of coconuts and fish and whatever else we can find on this ******** island. Oh joy."
His fingers pushed into the sand he was currently sitting on. "I'd kill for air conditioning right now. It's ******** hot as hell here, I feel like I'm sitting in an oven, or maybe one of those stupid meditation saunas my parents used to make us go to."
Nash's expression was somewhat suspicious as Kade slid around in front of him, tensing instinctively; but the water that slipped over his forehead and down his cheeks made him let out an involuntary sound of pure relief. His eyes fluttered shut, Nash's lips parting as he let the sensation course through him; a tiny, blissful and glorious relief from the blistering heat, cool droplets on his temple.
His head dropped forward a little, hair falling around his sun flushed cheeks, a sigh escaping.
"s**t. Yes."
