The sun is rising just as the exam entrants arrive to the designated area. A group of people wearing shinobi vests and headbands bearing the Mist village symbol are standing on the shore. They seem to be talking among themselves as you arrive, except there is one who is facing you as you approach.
“Welcome to Water Country, contestants. I am Hyuuga Kenji and I am your proctor for this exam.” he says with a deep, flat voice. He then notices that there are only five of you. “Are there more coming? I was expecting a larger pool. Oh well, at least this will be over quickly.”
“Here you will have to pass four trials. Each of them are difficult and will test every skill you will need to be a shinobi. But before we begin, there are some rules!
In the first trial, you will each be given 10 kunai. You'll notice that the point is rounded off and the blades are too thick to cut. This is an intentional design, for these kunai are not designed for killing. Instead, they have been coated with a special chakra oil. No, you cannot see it and no, it cannot be removed. Your objective is to advance from your side of the island to the other side while taking as few hits as possible from these kunai. Any contestant struck more than six times will be immediately disqualified from the exam.
In the second trial, you are to enter a series of tunnels and attempt to get from one side to the other. Each tunnel is straight, there is no labyrinth. But be on your guard. There are obstacles that will try to prevent you from reaching the end of the tunnel. Anyone who does not make it out is immediately disqualified.”
By now, the others have noticed your presence and have fallen in line behind the proctor.
“The third trial will be to see how well you interact with sealing jutsu. You will each be given a scroll and must break the seal. Unlike the previous two trials, failure will not disqualify you from the exams, however, if you attempt to break the seal of one of your other contestants for them, you will both be disqualified. This is a competition. You are not here to help your opponents.
And the final exam will be a surprise.”
After saying this, a mischievous grin spreads on his face.
“Now then, contestants, place your hand on the shoulder of the Jounin that approaches you. You will be taken to the first trial, given your kunai, and sent on your way.
Oh, and one more thing, a very important bit of information you probably should know:
Contestants may not use any jutsu that would grant them an advantage. Also, doujutsu are forbidden during these exams. If we see either of these, you will be intercepted and removed from the exams. And believe me, we will see it.” At this, he and four of the other jounin all focus and reveal their Byakugan.
“This is your only warning. Begin!”
Five of the non-Hyuuga Jounin approach each of you, and stand next to you. Once you've placed your hand on their shoulder, a great mist surrounds you all and suddenly, you are on another shoreline. The sudden movement makes you queasy, but you're otherwise unaffected.
