Though Seziah had known living alone in unfamiliar territory may be more difficult than anything she'd ever experienced, knowing did nothing to prepare her for how truly impossible living on the mainland could be. She had little coin to her name, little experience with any type of trade, and everything in Oba was new and foreign. All the buildings, all the people, all the customs- the temperature. It was so hot, and so bright, with the sun reflecting off of the sands and the ocean.
But those things made it at least as beautiful as she'd imagined it would be. Her ship from Yael had made port near the coastal city of Jatine. It was a large establishment, with more passerby, more architecture, and more water than she'd ever seen in her life. It was a magnificent place, but with its picturesque beauty, many sights, and countless pathways, it was easy for an unintelligent and unwary girl to become a bit turned about.
While near the docks and the bustle and market that came with that proximity, Seziah had been enthralled by all that her gaze could catch. The people too had seemed curious of her, as well. None approached her, mind, but as she cast her vision about, she could see glimpses of Obans looking her way, and a few pointing as they did.
That was a bit rude. She wasn't pointing at them, though they were quite strange to her, as well.
Seziah had had only few opportunities to see people at all, let alone those of another race. She knew some Yaeli had claimed a desire to travel, now that the option was open, though as far as she was aware, it was still a bit of an odd practice. To her, it sounded like many Yaeli would never want to leave the sanctity of their homeland for the cursed mainlands. Fortunately, she wasn't afraid, and none here seemed afraid of her, either.
She'd taken a turn from the main market as she moved about, traveling deeper and deeper into the city, farther and farther from the ocean. Here the buildings stretched so high to blot out the sun that everything was cast in shadow. There were fewer people milling about here, all dressed in bright, clean colors and glittering jewels.
"Girl." When a hand clasped about her wrist, Seziah jerked away and swiveled about so hard that she nearly toppled over. The bulky woman did not release her. "Travelers are encouraged to stay near the commons." She gave a jerk to Sez's arm to encourage her back the way she'd come, and the Yaeli girl staggered forward. "You don't want to be caught in an area you aren't welcome in. The guards may think you're being suspicious."
Sez blinked, and fidgeted to free herself. "I am not suspicious," she tried to tell the woman. "And I am not a traveler. I have done all of my traveling. I am going to stay here."
"Well, you aren't going to stay here," another jerk, hard enough to toss Sez out of the way. "You couldn't afford it. You go on back toward the docks, girl. There is nothing for you this way."

Running errands in the noble districts of Jatine was not a strange concept to Tytus. After living with Yu's family for seven months now the 'stable boy' was learning more and more about the etiquette of affairs, aka the butt-kissing that the families did with each other in order to attain better trade and keep some semblance of peace. Not like the families would outright war with each other as that was far too much violence on the streets, but the bickering would be nonstop. I suppose nobles can afford such petty fights. Tytus snorted at the mental images that flickered through his thoughts before freezing behind Yu.
"Tytus...is that?" The noble frowned, a slight crease decorating his forehead, before raising a hand to point through the crowds towards a strange figure.
"A lovely shade of purple? I believe so." Tytus quipped back before his voice softened, "Seems to be one of those rare Yaeli. Do you think she's alright?" The lady was being rather rude to the poor girl. Just seeing the rude shoving made Tytus take a step forward away from his previous path.
"Ty..." Yu reached out to grab his friend's arm, "It's none of our business."
"Sure, sure. Don't worry." Tytus pried his friend's fingers from his skin, "I'll keep it out of your business as to not stir trouble for the family." His gaze glimmered with some amusement, "But you know me and stray animals - they just seem so pitiful on their own." So the lancer pushed his friend forward, "I'll catch up to you later. I'm going to take a personal day today after all." As Yu left Tytus glanced around. Now he just had to find the strange girl and catch up to her...

She still didn't really understand what she'd doing that had been so objectionable. Seziah rubbed at her wrist where the woman had caught and jerked her about as she walked back in the direction of the 'commons.' She'd only been exploring, after all, and the area had looked so much nicer to walk in... Very brightly lit, with only a few well-dressed people as passerby. The only thing she could think of was that farther back was was where the Obans kept their Sanctum.
It made sense, she supposed. Foreigners were not often welcomed too close to the Yaeli Sanctum, either, as far as Seziah understood it. Except, Oba was not an island, they were not fearful of curses, and they must have many more foreigners than Yael did... She'd even seen a few of them! Shifters, and Matori girls too! Seziah could not be that strange and unwelcome in such a place...
But the woman had sure made her out to be.
Perhaps it didn't matter so much for the moment. Jatine was very large, and there was still very much to see of it. She held concerns about finding a bed for the night, but since travelers didn't seem uncommon to Oba, there must be a place in the commons that would accept her. She would only have to look around until she found it.
Seziah hadn't made it very far at all when she became potently aware of footsteps behind her. She was not an especially cowardly girl, nor did she hold many of the reservations common for her people. She wouldn't say she was paranoid, but when the steps continued to follow in her trail, she felt a well of anxiety start leaking into her chest. Should she stop? Turn? Confront her pursuer? They hadn't done anything to her, so it was likely coincidence. She cast a quick glance over her shoulder and only saw a boy, with warm red hair and eyes and an eruption of small crystals right on his face.
Seziah was no coward. So she stalled her tracks and spun fully. "Excuse me, Sir, but if you are following me to say that I have wandered too far from the docks, please refrain from wasting your time. I have already been informed as such, and I am heading back the way I came now."

At least it was easy to catch sight of that purple in the crowd. As Tytus spun around on his heel to try and find the woman again he found it rather easy as the sunlight seemingly glimmered on those dark curls. It also helped that there were some who simply skirted away from the Yaeli as they went along with their own business. So for Tytus the harder question was not how to track down the stranger, but rather how to actually address her.
Did he simply reach out to touch her shoulder? Or did he call out to her? Or....well she could instead confront him. Smiling, Tytus halted in his steps so that he could study the woman. "You think that I was going to....oh. That's not what I was thinking at all, honestly I would rather say that you're wandering too far from me." He quipped lightly with a small grin, "You don't have to worry about me chasing you away. I saw what had happened and was just curious if you needed some help in the city. I know it can be a big mess for anyone who hasn't ever been here before after all."
"Strangers are hard to trust though, right? So let me introduce myself. I'm known as Tytus and you are...?" Awkwardly the Oban held out his hand in greeting as he smiled warmly towards the Yaeli.

"I am wandering too far from you," Seziah repeated stonily, her brow furrowing slightly as her gaze skirted from the boy's chest to his shoes. These foreigners were- Well, she supposed she was the foreigner here, but that didn't change the fact that these people were foreign to her, and they spoke so peculiarly! What need did she have to not wander away from a total stranger? Perhaps she'd been meant to give her name to someone at the docks so they could keep track of who entered their country, and this man had followed her all that way to ensure she did as she ought. Or maybe Yaeli weren't trustworthy to Obans and they were required to have some sort of supervisor while within city limits, or...
Or he could just be a man trying to assist a strange woman. That did seem very unlikely, but since he had offered, and she had no reason to doubt his reliability, and she was somewhat at a loss, Seziah gave a clipped nod.
"There are much fewer people where I'm from," she admitted. "And many less buildings, also. I thought I should like to get a feel for my surroundings before I look for a place to settle for a while, until I am more comfortable here." Seziah couldn't say for certain how to go about that process either, but she imagined it couldn't be hard, and it certainly couldn't cost very much. She'd been living away from home her entire life, so if her parents could afford it, it must be within the realm of possibility for her, as well.
She eyed his hand as it was extended to her and rubbed the tips of the fingers on one hand together. If touching anyone could be avoided, she certainly would have done it, but if it was customary here to greet strangers in such a way, she couldn't possibly refuse... She reached to layer her fingers lightly over his and replied. "My name is Seziah. It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance."

Tytus was not dismayed at the stranger's stony reaction. Whether it was just how dense the man could be or whether he was just determined to find out more about the pretty woman the lancer persisted in his attempts at flirtation, "Yes." He replied with a warm smile, "I say that because it's hard to help a pretty lady find her way around town if she's too busy walking ten feet away from me." Tytus tucked a stray strand of hair behind his ear, "Though I can be completely mistaken.....yet I've never seen someone like you in these parts before so I assume you wouldn't be too familiar with this city." And he definitely was confident in that - after all wouldn't he have recognized such a person before?
"Fewer people?" Tytus grinned in amusement, "Then you should be worried to go too far from Jatine as the cities only get bigger from here." Though her confession did cause the man to raise a brow in curiosity, "You wish to settle in Jatine?" That was peculiar indeed. Most of the stories he had heard about the Yaeli involved them lingering back on Yael while those that traveled through came and went quicker than any blink of the eye. They worshiped their lands and kept from the mainlanders for the most part....but apparently not all of them did. Tytus studied the woman with a small frown, "You aren't a murderer on the run, are you?" He asked boldly before reaching up to rub the back of his neck, "Not that I'm judging...it's just strange for a Yaeli to wish to settle in Oba - that is from what I know and obviously well...I don't know everything I 'spose."
At the touch Tytus wiped away his suspicion. Surely this woman wasn't about to maul him or anything. Even her fingers seemed gentle! The Oban smiled and gripped her fingers before bending to kiss the top of her hand lightly, "The pleasure is mine, Seziah." As he let go of her hand the man took a step back to survey the area around them,"So do you have something in mind...for where to settle or what you wish to pursue in Jatine?"

Was it his job to assist her? As in, required of him rather than by any actual desire to do so? Seziah couldn't say, but she suspected it might be, due to his sheer persistence and her inability to fathom another reason why he'd have trailed her. Either way, she wasn't in any position to refuse his assistance and could only stand to be grateful that mainlanders could be so considerate. There had been the concern that perhaps she would be as wanted here as she was in Yael... And the woman of moment's prior hadn't eased those fears any. Why would Obans accept foreigners in their country, when she'd done nothing for them and they knew nothing about her?
But Tytus was smiling, and seemed very friendly. For the moment, at least, those concerns subsided. She shook her head. "No, I am not familiar with it," Seziah agreed. "But it is beautiful, and I think I would like to become familiar with it, if it is not too much trouble."
Her still-glowing orbs darted from the dirt beneath his feet and back up to his face assessingly, before dropping again. A murderer. Sez smoothed a hand over her stomach, and wondered if that was what she ought to classify herself now. Though it hadn't been her intention, she had failed to bring a new life fully into the world, and instead had only been able to bring about the death of her unborn child, despite being so certain that she'd done everything properly... She swallowed.
"I... am hopeful that any curses that may have followed me in Yael have chosen to stay there," she murmured, voice lowering and wavering in what had otherwise been quite monotonous speech.
Her attention fluttered back to him, his eyes, his mouth, and Sez's posture snapped into rigidity as his lips brushed her hand. It wasn't a gesture she was familiar with, and it felt unnecessary and strange. But Tytus was still smiling, and she could only expect it was an innocuous occurrence here. Still, she tripped over her first words messily, confused and uncertain now. "N-no, I am not sure how someone like me could be of use here. I have not been useful to anyone before, but I imagine if I only had the opportunity to try, I could learn. I am not stupid."
"I could..." But she couldn't actually be sure what tasks were undertaken anywhere outside of where she'd grown up. There'd been someone to cook, and Granny had cleaned and mended clothes. Diavel had been a healer, but she was in no way proficient enough at that to make a job of it... "What is it that you do?" She asked instead.

Tytus raised a teasing brow towards Seziah, "Ah, me too." He would love to get to become more familiar with a beautiful thing if it wasn't too much trouble, "That is! I mean that's how I felt when I first came here when I was a child. Compared to the rest of Oba's deserts, Jatine is truly a blessing." He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
Though his expression did flicker as her gaze dropped. Had he misspoken? Good job, Tytus. What if she is on the run because of something? The Oban cursed his loud mouth before blinking in surprise at her answer, "Curses...I'm sure they have then. We're not really the superstitious sort here, so consider this a new beginning with no strings attached." He had heard that the Yaeli had some strange beliefs and habits so maybe that was her worry? If so then that was not a big deal at all! If anything Tytus was up to the challenge to prove that life was what you made it rather than what the gods decided. Or spirits or whatever it was that the Yaeli believed in so fervently.
He couldn't help grinning at how flustered the simple greeting had made Seziah, "Understandable. Like I said before Oba is a good place for new beginnings. So is there anything at all that you can do? You can't be completely useless else you wouldn't have made it across the great sea." He quipped lightly before pausing at her question, "Me?" Tytus rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "I help lovely strangers find their way, flirt a bit and live my life happily. Occupation wise, however, I work with beasts and serve in the stables of a noble household as a personal beast tamer and rider for the family."

Good. She'd chosen her new home well, despite having only the most minimal knowledge to go on. If even the locals spoke of its blessings and did not seem frightened of her, it was a far better place than Pajore, already. Yaeli were a naturally skittish people, burdened with a fear of the gods who'd created them, and she'd met only a few who were especially kind or chipper. And they were never as such to foreigners. If only a few hours on Oban sands and she already found herself receiving what she was after, Seziah could only imagine the future.
Seziah was still hesitant. There was no reason to throw caution to the wind, yet. But her tone shifted, just barely, from monotonous to a scant octave higher, more airy, and warily optimistic. "I think you could be right. ...And I am hopeful that you are."
Did the Oban gods watch her, now? She couldn't say, but weekly church had been a routine kept up by even the Institute. She was accustomed to attending communion in chapels outside the Sanctum regularly, and she wondered if she out find a temple here, to Oban gods, so that she might pray to them and ask their blessings while on soil not of her own land... Would they even allow her to? Foreigners were not allowed in the Sanctum, and it wouldn't surprise her if Obans felt similarly...
Once her current dilemmas of food and lodgings were resolved, Seziah decided to ask Tytus where she ought to go if she wanted to learn of and offer thanks to her new gods.
For now, she could only try and answer his questions. "No, I," 'am useless.' The words caught at the back of her tongue. Seziah stilled and held her breath briefly as she willed the thought away before continuing more slowly. "...have only minimal experiences with menial labor... I have a rudimentary knowledge of healing magic and perhaps just as much with cooking. I can clean and organize. I have a good memory. I am not unintelligent, but I have not been graced with opportunities to try my hand at most things." Her nose crinkled slightly, only the first physical indication of emotion on her face since their meeting. "Nor do I think I would do well at your job, Mister Tytus."

"Stay around me and I'll make sure of it." The words slipped out of Tytus before he could stop them and the Oban felt a slight warm spread up the back of his neck. Always makin' a promise without really thinking it through. Good job. Perhaps this was why Yu often dragged him away from those in the streets since without guidance it seemed Tytus was willing to throw himself into any sort of situation, especially when it included a pretty foreigner. And it was worth it even for that slight shift of tone in her voice as Tytus found his own spirits lifting. This will be my good deed for the day then. He teased himself before focusing once more on Seziah.
Lifting a brow the man nearly opened his mouth to quip in another rebuttal to her stubbornness, but was pleasantly surprised to see how she shifted from useless to having some skills. His gaze lightened with the obvious transition and even though it was a faint change from useless Tytus was eager to take any optimism, big or small. "That's not awful and I'm sure we can work on that..." He paused and twisted a braid in his fingers thoughtfully, "I wish I could propose keeping you as a housekeeper, but my living quarters are a bit uh...underwhelming to the outside eye. Surely we can find some sort of niche for you if you are wishing to work, I don't mind helping you out for a few nights. My place is fairly open with plenty of room for a stranger to stay in." He chuckled, his left cheek dimpling ever so slightly, as he registered her opinion on doing his job.
"Not many people can and I have a few bruises from it that try to say that I'm not completely perfect at it either." The Oban shrugged, "But no one is born knowing what you're meant for and so you simply must enjoy the fun of trying the paths open to you." He nodded trying to build enthusiasm before finally registering one final thing, "Healing? You can heal?" Tytus took a step closer to her as he studied the Yaeli, "That itself is plenty enough for me. Do you know how many times I get nipped and bucked around by Xaraan? It would be so nice to have someone to help patch up my wounds after working....that's it. You'll come stay with me for a bit and I can help you with a place to sleep and meals - like I mentioned before and you can help me out a bit when I'm beaten up from work. That is until you figure out what you want to do exactly in Jatine." The Oban held out his hand towards her, "What do you say, Seziah? I can take you to my humble abode right now if you are willing."

She still had her reservations concerning why this stranger seemed so interested in being of any aid to her, and Seziah wasn't sure if she ought to be going home with just anyone who offered it to her when she knew so little about this place. For a moment, she scrutinized Tytus through pale, glowing orbs and wondered if there were other intentions she should know about. Maybe there were, and maybe she should be wary, but she did also want to find work and a safe place to spend her nights. These things would be hard to come by without direction, she expected. Even if they weren't, she'd never had to seek them on her own. She'd never had to do much of anything on her own.
It felt like she had precious few viable options.
So, if Tytus would help her 'for a few nights,' she didn't have many other alternatives. Hesitantly, Seziah nodded. "I would appreciate the help, I think. Your city is so large, and I cannot say I would know where to begin searching for accommodations, if no one was around to guide me. I will try not to be burdensome or distract you from your own work until I find a suitable arrangement elsewhere."
"But, to some extent, yes, I can heal." Seziah's gaze pinched marginally, and she leaned away as he took that single step closer. "I am not the most talented nor knowledgeable, but if your only ails are scrapes and bruises, I should be able to mend those with minimal effort."
Admittedly, it was not quite what Seziah had been expecting she would do during her travels, but so long as Tytus could be trusted (and she wasn't yet convinced that he could be), it didn't sound like an awful deal... She had no money and no way of obtaining her own place or even food, for that matter, so if she did want to spend her first night in Jatine under a roof, there weren't many options. Besides, he didn't seem like a bad person, just a suspiciously chipper one.
She nodded again, more assuredly this time, and reached to fold her fingers around his. "I would appreciate it, I think." She hoped.

Tytus nodded encouragingly, "Jatine is a rather large city and to be honest that lady's reaction...well it wouldn't be a surprise for others to do the same if you were to try continuing on your own." For the briefest of moments his eager expression shifted into something akin to concern and frustration before a smile once more found itself on his face, "So you're fortunate to have found me." Tytus grinned in an attempt to reassure her, "And don't worry about being a burden, I just hope you're okay with the accommodations I can provide."
"Perfect. I'll try not to get too mauled since I don't want to overwhelm you." He teased lightly with a wink,"Though I can't guarantee how safe I'll be in general since it's hard to foretell the future." He chuckled, "Unless you happen to have psychic powers that allow you to become some sort of fate reader then tell me now because I could use you for any of the races." The man shook his head, "All teasing aside then is there anything you need before I lead you around and show you to my home?" He tightened his fingers around her hand as he gave it a shake and then after a moment of hesitation he finally let go so that he could glance around thoughtfully, "We should grab a drink before we head in since that's the best way to truly seal a deal. My father always told me once you drink together and have shaken on it an agreement is sealed and we must abide by it."

So it was commonplace, then, for people to behave as that guardswoman had, even here on the mainland... Of course it would be, Seziah reasoned to herself. If not to others from this continent, then certainly to the toxic strangers of Yael. They might have been only a small stretch of sea away, but it had been generations since any of her kind had been permitted or willing to make the journey until relatively recently. It wasn't so strange, to be frightened of new things.
Seziah nodded her understanding. "I suppose you are correct," she agreed. "There must not be many people like you, who would stop to help a strange foreign girl. And if there are so few, in a city of this size, with so many people, I am quite lucky to have come upon you. I thank you for your aid."
Even though Seziah had not yet seen her temporary residence, she expected a man as bright-eyed and smiley as Tytus would not try to hole her up someplace unsuitable. She was absolutely positive he would find her someplace clean, warm, dry, devoid of smells and other occupants, safe from the elements and trespassers, and there would be a bed, she was certain. Expecting these things was not expecting too much, and no one would be so cruel as to offer shelter without meeting the bare minimum requirements.
"I am not a psychic, but I do not think I am easily overwhelmed, either. I do not require much, and have brought along a few things with me," she hefted her bag. "To make the transition more comfortable for me and everyone else involved. I am..." she scanned the area, vibrant irises darting about quickly before settling on Tytus once more. "Uncertain that I would need a drink here, but if it is customary, I will join you, of course."

Tytus smiled at the observation, "Ah, yes. Must be fate or something, no?" He teased lightly, "It helps when I'm easily attracted to a pretty face." The Oban's gaze glimmered with amusement as he watched for Seziah's reaction. Perhaps he should tone it down a bit with the flirting, but then again Tytus was just like that - carefree with no idea of reservations when it came to socializing. Though in the back of his mind he did wonder how she would handle the area he could provide for her. It was nice and roomy at least there...he couldn't really take her to the manor right away, not without causing a scene of course. Still Tytus threw such worry to the wind as he ushered her forward through the market.
As they walked he smirked at her comment, "I suppose that works well enough. I just hope you didn't bring anything dangerous with you, not that I could see you doing anything harmful." Truly even if he had just met her the man felt like the woman had a gentle spirit and perhaps that was why he was so eager to defend her from Oba. It seemed like she had already experienced some misfortunes and Tytus was not one to sit still while someone was in pain. "Of course it's customary!" He quipped lightly as he led her around through the streets, "Over there to your right is a huge shopping district, it's best to not go alone especially if you are planning on spending some money there and wishing to get home without someone 'bumping' into you. To the left where the paths seem to climb higher towards the more open areas is the noble area. We can go beyond that to the family's estate where I work."
However instead of walking straight there Tytus stopped at a small area, a little venue nestled in between the two diverging paths. Several small tables and chairs littered the place and smells of smoked meat and other delicacies floated around them. "Ward's nest." He read the sign to her and smiled, "It's a simple place but they make delicious food and pour some of the best drinks." It was a much gentler place than a packed tavern and a much less crowded during this hour. Tytus gestured towards a table, "Sit and I'll order us some snacks and drinks so we can seal our deal and celebrate our meeting. It's a good chance to introduce you to some of our country's food as well."

"It is my understanding that most men are attracted to pretty girls," Seziah replied curtly, unaffected as ever toward the tone of the conversation, before she stepped forward and away from ushering hands. She'd not often been allowed to wander even the less crowded streets of Pajore alone, so to be among the throng of passerby here felt something like she expected being washed away in a tide to feel: a bunch of pushing and pulling and milling in the direction of others. If 'disorganization' was a feeling, this would be it.
Seziah hated disorganization, and if she would've spoken to her younger self of a moment in this city, feeling like this, and being utterly surrounded on all sides by strangers, she surely would've been aghast at the thought. But she decided that, despite it being unusual and likely to sound very unfavorable, she was not filled with any sense of impending doom or unpleasantness. Here would be good things. She was sure of it.
For the moment, she was not alone, and Tytus had a destination in mind, nervous as she still felt in breaking from her norm. Her gaze flit about as they walked, trying to map what few roads of this large city she could before while in the midst of it.
Seziah could say she was as intelligent as she pleased, and she hoped to feel more familiar with the area soon, but she knew one cursory glance wouldn't be enough to get her very far later. Perhaps next time she came by here specifically, she'd have a better feel for the land, and maybe even a home to return to from this spot. That would help, Seziah decided. Once she had a branching off point, a home, she could properly mentally map the city.
But likely not now.
Now she was faced with a corner lot and the scent of what she supposed passed for food in this place. Would it be rude of her to tell Tytus that she wasn't sure she wanted to stomach anything from a foreign land just yet? What if it tasted awful...?
It probably was rude, though, and she hadn't brought any food from Yael, so it was unlikely she'd find anything from her homeland to eat at this hour... Instead, Sez gave a tight nod of confirmation and murmured, "I am not sure if our meeting was so fated that it requires celebrating, but if it is custom, I will accept." With another dip of her head, she moved to settle into one of the chairs close enough to a window such that she could see others passing outside.
