____ The Koton Forge sits upon a steep hill with a stone staircase leading up to it. The hill is cut from rock and has no passable method of climbing to those who are not shinobi. The top of the stairs is guarded with a thick black steel forged gate. The back of the forge that can be seen from anywhere in the shopping district is carved in the image of a great four-winged bird that saved the founder of the Koton clan's blacksmith family.

____ Inside the fore there is a large kiln formed from the rock in the hillside that connects to the four-winged bird image. Several chests line the far side of the kiln that hold blacksmithing tools and excess steel bars and ores. On the far side of the flat carved floor made of stone there is a grindstone to sharpen metal upon and a hammering table to shape and mold armors to custom fit.
The " Underforge ", a room forged beneath the smithy which was traditionally used for storage of materials has been converted into a home for Shuichi. While the room is relatively hot due to the near constant flames of the forge atop it, at night the room becomes quite cool and comfortable. The room is a basic hardwood that is unpolished, its walls lined in cobblestone. The room is covered with various rugs of different styles that keep the room comfortable. The furnishings included a small studio apartment like living. The only room separate from the rest was the bathroom, outside the forge.

____ During the juvenile days of the village, a group of Koton user's from deep in the mountains settled in Kirigakure. These black steel user's claimed to be the blacksmiths' of their clan and proved their usefulness to the Mizukage by forging seven rather spectacular weapons. These weapons became the legends of the Mist village, bringing all swordsmen from the world to seek their ownership. With the village's popularity soaring with the weaponry in their possession, the Mizukage appointed the founder of the Koton forge as the village's most precious artisan.
Unfortunately, generation by generation the smiths became less valuable and the swordsmen who used the blades became infamous in their stead. With the loss of popularity, the art began to fade from their lineage, until it landed upon the father of the shop's current owner, Shuichi. Shuichi's father was a good for nothing, unremarkable smith who was better at making kitchen cutlery than weapons. When Shuichi surpassed his father's skill, his father became jealous and took the funds Shuichi had saved and planned to leave the village and his family. Upon discovery, Shuichi, in a moment of rage struck down his father with his hammer. In desperation, the body was placed in the forge, cremated and never heard from again. Rumor has it that Shuichi's father still left the village under the cloak of night for his mistress.
