The flat was a mess, definitely, but it wasn't anything that needed major renovations and they wouldn't have to find somewhere else to stay until the damage was fixed. But that was something Joy would focus on for later because what was more important was whether or not Kai was alright.
He had been her brother in Dusk. She'd never had a brother before and it was a connection she didn't want to lose just because reality said otherwise. She knocked at his door a little more urgently than probably necessary, "Kai? Hey, Kai? You in there?"

The door popped open and Kai stood there, a ciggarette pressed between a frown and his hair up as much as he coukd get it. He smelled strong of cigarette smoke as he held the doorframe and looked down at Joy.
"Yeah..I guess. You?"
He looked back behind him at his room before looking back. "Boombox is broken."

Relief radiated from her to learn that he was alright. Grumpy, but alright. Maybe it was remnants of the dream world, maybe it was lingering loneliness from missing her old life, maybe it was both but she gave him a fierce hug. Never mind that she barely came up to his shoulders or that her arms struggled to fully wrap around him.
She was a hugger and he was there. "We'll talk to the Life peeps about getting a replacement. I should have enough cash to get you a retro boombox."

He didn't question the huge, but popped his still burning cigarette behind his ear and leaned in to wrap his arms about her, squeezing back.
"You don't gotta do that. I'll find 'nother. You good? Wanna sit or something?"

Hugs were good. Reciprocated hugs were better. "Yeah, I'm okay. Our oven isn't." Here she made a rather theatrically exaggerated sigh of sadness before puling out of the hug. "The rest of the flat's a bit of a mess but nothing a good scrubbing can't fix. And Clyde's usually good at helping with minor carpentry stuff because some of the steps are splintered to ******** and back."
Chatter was a default, things that she really didn't want to deal with got talked over and at the moment, she wasn't sure if she could bring herself to talk about her guilt over the whole We Were Horsemen and it was AWESOME feelings.

"The stairs? Uh...should I be sleeping downstairs until that gets fixed then? Don't wanna go through if they are ********." He knew Joy loved cooking and that a broken oven would be a hard setback for her. "We can see if there are any ways to get a oven. s**t's expensive but maybe someone knows ovens or we can get one second hand somewhere. You want me to help clean up?"

"Downstairs? Why would you have to sleep just cuz of the stairs?" She glanced over her shoulder in confusion, "It's just a couple of the steps, even a shortie like me can take two of 'em at a time so they can be skipped."
She did give him a grateful smile about the suggestions for oven repair alternatives. "Ha! If it's only the body then maybe a bit of welding and banging out the dents could work. But if it's the fiddler techy bits that makes the oven cook things, ewan, nosebleed lang me." The amount of Tagalog words being sprinkled in her sentences had yet to reach levels that indicated how upset she really was.
Joy could still keep it together, "But yes please with help in cleaning up. We got some loose boards and upturned furniture downstairs but mostly it's like we had general cleaning."

"When our stairs got broken in the apartments, some old grandma fell through and busted up her leg. Sued the landlord. Don't want to be a cripple." He said, stepping out and looked down. "And I got more weight then some grandma."
"We should just get some oven. A good one. We getting money to get paid and you cook all the time. Get one of those home parties the other people do." He gestured for Joy to go ahead to take the stairs so she would be safer in case he took them and they broke.

Joy stared at him, unsure if he was being serious and decided to err on the side of caution that he was. After all, you don't bring up injured old ladies to joke, or at least Joy didn't think Kai was the type. "I think our FEAR shields can handle a fall like that but you're right, better safe than sorry."
Ha! She was one to talk. Even before she became a hunter, the thought of getting seriously injured never fazed her in the least. But the idea of someone important to her getting hurt was another matter entirely.
"Okay, until steps are fixed the couch is all yours. I'll go bug Clyde and see if he can at least put that on his priority. I'm gonna have to bust open the coffee from home," she grinned before practically jumping down from unbroken step to unbroken step without so much as using the walls for balance.

He gripped the railibg and walked carefully down behind her, tensing anytime he heard a loud ccrrrreeaaakkkk from the floorboards.
"Since we fixing up anyways, anything you want in this place. Rep said we working with pay to own this place later and it got hit so we can fix s**t up." He asked as he breathed out at reaching the bottom. His cig soon found its way back to his mouth as he looked around.
"We could get more stuff for your kitchen to have stuff."

"Uuuuy, so it's kinda like blessings in these guys!" Nothing in Joy's face suggested that it was a pun or an attempt at word play. "But the big stuff first, little things we can pick those up for later. I want a La Germania oven and that s**t's pricey. Getting it runic'd would be like, probably even more."
She shrugged, deciding to deal with that when it came up later, "What about you? Anything for your tattoo stuff?"

"Lots of it's just the lights and the tattoo gun. Need a bench. Really like used hospital or dental stuff could work on it. Then it's just the supplies. Needles. Ink. Cleaning stuff. Was workin on tattoo pictures to show people but that got all wet and s**t. Gotta start over." That was the real loos for him, other than the boom box.
"Need a room on the first floor for it. Lot of work if I got another place just for it."

"Hmmm, mebbe we can talk to Rep about renovating the flat's layout?" Joy suggested, of course that would mean extra cash that they may or may not have depending on the costs of runic-ing things, "Like, rent-wise, the two of us has it covered so we don't really need a third. And mebbe we can turn the downstairs to have a work room for you. I don't mind putting in the work," she flexed her arms to emphasize her point and willingness.

"Uh, maybe ya can help me out then, if you don't mind. I don't want ya forced into doing s**t for me. Not your business - only if ya want." He said, looking around at the house before he went to get the broom to help sweep things up before they took out the vacuum.
"You want anything for you? Like a thing or place of your own?"

"Pfft, p're, for you? Anything and anytime," Joy promised, giving Kai's shoulder a friendly bap. "I like living with you. This house's way better than the dungeon dorms, even with the broken stuff. And 'sides, I got someone to cook for!" She beamed, her natural enthusiasm making her feel like she was glowing for real.
She went to get a broom for herself and a plastic dust pan, although her broom was more a bundle of sticks like the ones they had back home.
