A dusty and rather miserable looking lion crossed into the borders of the Kusini land, driven only by the chance of seeing an old friend. He'd been wandering for the past few weeks, like a ghost trying to figure out why it hadn't found peace.

His first thoughts had been to just lay down and die, yet something drove him on. Perhaps the fact that life - no matter how terrible it was - was worth fighting for.

He'd lost his one true love but who was to say that meant the end, in fact it could spell a new, and it was with these frail hopes that he raised his head and roared, hoping that he'd be met with a smile instead of raised hackles and growls.

He hadn't the energy to fight anymore.

Asi moved through the kusini lands at a leisurely pace, tail flicking back and forth. The cubs were with Sye and Ari today, which was nice. Though sometimes he thought they must be quite a pawful, and he was only too happy to take a few off of their paws and play with them, taking them to new places.

Today was a self-day, where he could be away from his family for a bit. But it wasn't long before he could smell an old friend's scent in the air, and he lumbered along, in the direction of that scent. He wondered what his pal was doing in these parts, and he was quite happy for the visit. Well, until he found out that his friend was in quite a state.

Amari glanced up as he recognised the scent of the one lion he had been trying to find. The one lion he considered his friend in this rather dull and miserable world.

His whiskers twitched as he tried to put on a genuine smile, the expression faltering slightly under the weight of his grief. "Finally found yah then!" He spoke as he padded closer, "thought I'd be wandering this place for days, took me a hell of a long time to find it at any rate." Well it probably wouldn't have taken so long if he hadn't kept stopping on the way.

"Thought I'd come pay the royal family a visit." He grinned, already feeling slightly better now that he was in familiar company.

Asi snorted. "Do no call me an' meh family tha', rusty." He smirked at the other, though something gaze Asi an itch that told him something was wrong. Being quite a dense lion, he chose to ignore it.

"Aye, bu' the visit do be a nice su'prise, yeh be lucky I was wonderin' the border." He grinned slightly, plopping himself down as his tail flicked back and forth. " 'Ow be yeh, Amari?" His head tilted slightly to the side.

He laughed at his friend's take on the comment 'royal' and slumped down into a rather casual position. Asi would always be Asi to him, a friend he had met as a rogue and grown up with despite the shaky start their friendship had.

"Glad tah know yah still remember me." He joked, "I'm pretty good I guess, got a bit bored and decided to come and bug you for a while. If you don't mind, of course." He chuckled again, his frame shaking from the effort. It felt strange to laugh again that was for sure, but he was happier now that he was with someone he could be himself with. Asi already knew all of his flaws and there was nothing to hide.

"How about you? Life treating yah well?" His eyes scanned Asi's face for any hint of what had been happening since they'd last met all that time ago. Seemed he'd been neglecting everyone of late.

Asi shrugged "I do no' mind, yeh be welcome 'ere annee time yeh wan', Amari." It was true, even if Asi wasn't around anymore. Or if he passed the crown to Tamu early, or something like that.

"Life 'as been trea'in meh dully." He gave a little grin. "Or may'aps chaotically. I be a fa'er.. to a second li'er.." He coughed slightly. "An' apparently a gran'da to a lil' cub." Slight bitterness held in his voice there, bitterness he couldn't surpress. He hated Uumi. Despised the red pridelander.

Amari did look surprised at Asi's comment of being a father and a grandfather, eyes widening as he felt the ache return to his chest. Atleast Asi had been a good father, it was more than he had ever done. Here he was, miles away from the one lioness he had loved and the one son he would never know.

Did Maawio miss him, one little bit?

He suddenly realised that his thoughts were mirrored in his face and quickly corrected his expression. "Sounds like you've been busy, and yer kiddos too. Haven't seen your first lot since they were little scraps of fur. Must be getting big now, eh?" He was interested about the second lot, wondering if any of them had turned out 'normal' considering what he'd been told the others were like.

"Sounds like maybe pops wants to travel a bit again, though I gotta tell you now, it's not what it used to be." He didn't know why though.

Asi's own gaze became a bit troubled at his friend's facial expression, wondering what was going on in his mind. His tail flicked a little. "Pre'y big, yeh. 'Opefully yeh can remee' some'o'em. An' mee' the new lil'uns." That might be amusing.

"An' why is tha'?" He questioned about the traveling, how it was different.

Amari nodded, "yeah I remember that fiesty one." Obviously referring to Denahi, "cute kid." He gave the mocha lion a large grin. "Of course, I gotta meet the new offspring! How many is there this time? More than three?" Exactly how many lions related to Asi were there? Probably a lot if his first children were settling down with mates.

"Ahh...well I don't know really, doesn't hold the same excitement it did when I was younger. Maybe I just got used to the lazy life or something. I'm hoping that the feeling returns so I can continue on for a while longer." He fell silent then realising he had probably said too much, but quickly tried to cover up.

"I just realised my old buddy Asi is a grandpa!" He chuckled, swishing his tail to lay over his front paws.

Asi snorted slightly, no one thought of Denahi as cute. "Thurr be four, three girls an' a lil' boy." Asi grinned slightly, tail flicking. Yes, he was very proud of this litter. Hopefully they would be more normal, but he still loved his other three just as much. "Two o'the girls are twins! Though one be blin' an' the o'er one is deaf." He frowned slightly, worried. Lions like that sometimes didn't last long, but he had hope for his offspring.

A brow rose at Amari's next statement and he was about to say something of it, but the rusty colored lion continued right on. "Hmph, well yeh be 'avin' ter travel with me sometime." He said this istead, tail flicking as he thought it slowly over.

"C'mon Amari, wha' be wrong?" He insisted, finally.

Amari nodded slowly trying to understand what it must be like to have two cubs who both had disabilities. It would definately make parenting hard that was for sure. "Your a good dad, coping with such a bunch of miscreants." He laughed, "perhaps a bit of travelling would do yah good, get away from it all for a bit."

At his question the bulky lion couldn't help but flinch, his gaze diverting to watch the most interesting rock he could find.

If he couldn't tell the truth to his best pal then who could he tell?

That thought wasn't any comfort though and he tried to put on a smile and shrug it off, only to find himself being swamped with grief once more. "It's over..." He choked, shaking his head sadly, "my life at the Pridelands, my life as a mate and my life as a father." His voice was expresionless. "It's over."

Wow...what a way to be reunited with a friend.

Asi stared at him, looking very confused at first. "O'er.." He breathed, head tilting. And then realization flickered in his eyes. "Wi' the lil' doll... Amari, wha'appened?" He frowned, standing suddenly and stretching just a little.

That seemed impossible to him, they seemed to fit very well together.

"Well to cut a long story short, I was caught flirting with a pregnant lioness...she must have gotten the wrong idea. She didn't give me a chance to explain, just up and left with my son." He sighed, glancing down almost shamefully to stare at his forepaws. "She won't forgive me this time, so I told the others at the Pridelands to take care of them for me."

His ears drooped a little and his body quivered. "I'm never going back." Well...perhaps he would. Already he was considering a small visit back to spy on her for a day or so. Just to make sure she and Mbari were okay.

"So, now that I'm a rogue again I figured I'd come see yah, maybe meet some new faces. I mean...there's plenty of other femmes out there just waiting to be charmed." He tried to put on a more happy expression.

Asi's brows rose slightly, and he forced himself not to laugh. Amari's way with the ladies had been his downfall, so it'd seemed. Sad as it was, it was slightly amusing. In a twisted, slightly mean way.

"Yeh mean... yeh did no' force 'er teh lis'en?" He frowned thoughtfully at this. His tail flicked a little, and he snorted. "The Amari I know woul' win'er back, no' fin' some o'er female teh take 'is mind off'a it with." He stated, giving the other a questioning look, did he change that much?

He growled at the question, not in a menacing fashion, but rather in irritation at himself. Why hadn't he stopped her? Had he felt that there was no way he could explain himself? He lowered his head, mane drooping into his face as he pondered on this, then slowly he raised his face to gaze at Asi.

"I couldn't. I couldn't explain myself. She may have ben wrong about that one thing but she wasn't wrong about the others. I wasn't a good father, I wasn't a good mate. The responsibility of being a parent scared me off and I had the feeling it would."

He tried to put on another smile, "Yah know me, all play and no work. I'm not cut out for the parenting thing. How can I be a good role model to a little kiddo? I mean...who want's a little ball of golden fur to go around chatting up females who are old enough to be his grandmother?" He laughed then.

Maybe he had changed, maybe he had...
