The mission report gives you the location of a high school, a class schedule, and a profile. For those who look young enough, they get the opportunity to pose as a student. More mature hunters have to pose as substitute teachers. Instructions detail odd occurrences and at least one missing persons report. It's up to you to blend, investigate, and remove whatever is preying on the school.

Quote:

Day 1 : Blending

The school is mostly empty, except for those who are attending summer school classes. There's a certain eeriness to the empty halls that make the one's filled with students all the more jarring.

Roll 1 d4:

1. You're cornered by an aggressively inquisitive student: they want to know who you are, why you're showing up out of the blue, where you're from. You can accept them as an ally of sorts, to use in investigating the school. If you don't, they will continue to appear the rest of the mission anyway.
2. The principal calls you into his office and gives you a speech about how recently there have problems at the school, but that there is no need to worry. It becomes clear he suspects you are an undercover reporter. You see him periodically throughout the rest of your mission, nervously checking on you.
3. A teacher grabs your arm as you pass them in the hallway, pulling you into an empty room. They give you a hushed ultimatum: if you're here to make things worse or are just indulging morbid curiosity, then you can just leave. You can either play innocent and they will be constantly nearby and watching you for the rest of the mission, or you can give them some variation of the truth that will have them helping you.
4. Within the first few hours, you find a love note in your pocket. You being to feel watched and followed the rest of your mission, and other small notes and even gifts appear. They may be simply cute and innocent, but they may also have a sinister quality. This presence may help or hinder you.

Day 2: Investigation

Roll 1 d4

1. Shady Deals

Select one or several or all from these prompts:
- You overhear mention of the stuff from several students who don't notice you.
- You find someone frightened and shaking in the bathroom, but they won't tell you what's wrong or what scared them.
- You see a group huddled together, and glimpse money changing hands. Later you recognize one of them, hiding in a janitor's closet.

2. Potential

Select one or several or all from these prompts:
- You notice a student covered in bruises that weren't there earlier in the day.
- There's a notice on the bulletin boards about reporting any bug nests, as summer infestations continue to be a problem.
- In the basement, you find several areas covered in rat traps.
- A student who's standoffish is pointed out to you. They're considered weird/spooky/crazy and most people give them a wide berth.

3. The Exchange Student

Select one or several or all from these prompts:
- You notice a student who's seems a bit "off."
- In the locker rooms you find the remnants of something likely not human, be it hair, scales, slime, or some other substance.
- Several students leave giggling during lunch. When you seem them in class later, they appear pale and spooked.

4. Wild Card
Select your choice of the above prompts.

Day 3: Removal

Shady Deals
Your investigations lead you to a student selling small candies you may recognize as similar to FEAR candies to students.

Encounter

Roll 1 d4

1. The Dealer is a normal human student. They can be convinced to lead you to the one who gave them the drugs to sell. The person you find is someone who looks similar to a hunter you used to see around in person or in photos. They disappeared in late summer of 2015, when the Life labs exploded.
Mob:
Renegade Hunter
HP: 60
Auto Damage: 6
Special: If their HP hits from 0-7 range, their eyes turn black and a pair of doors appear for them to escape through. Going through those doors to pursue feels like an incredibly bad idea.

Should you fail, the person you encountered on Day 1 will rescue you. Roll 1 d10 to determine if they survive. (6-10 means they live.)

2. The Dealer is a creature of Halloween in disguise. Upon seeing you they try to run. Roll 1d20 to keep them from escaping, 13-20 is success.
Mob:
Dealer Creature (species/race is your choice)
HP: 40
Auto Damage: 3
Special: If you bring their HP between 1-5 then you may capture them and bring them back to Deus. Otherwise they dissipate when they hit 0.

Should you fail, the person you encountered on Day 1 will rescue you. Roll 1 d10 to determine if they survive. (6-10 means they live.)

3. The Dealer is a human student. They seem a bit older than most, and when confronted, draw a knife bearing electric yellow runes.
Mob:
Human Dealer
HP: 25
Auto Damage: 8
Special: If you bring their HP between 1-5 then you may capture them and bring them back to Deus. Otherwise they die, but you will still be able to retrieve their weapon.

Should you fail, the person you encountered on Day 1 will rescue you. Roll 1 d10 to determine if they survive. (6-10 means they live.)

4. Wild Card
Select your choice of the above prompts.

Potential
Your investigations lead you to believe one of the students is a potential hunter who is attracting dangerous attention.

Encounter

Roll 1 d4

1. The student doesn't come to school today. After checking their records, you find out where they live and go to check on them. What you find is a very quiet house, filled only with the buzz of flies as they gather around the bodies of the family within. After several minutes, several of the bodies being to move, and then stagger to their feet. Beetles crawl out their mouths and wounds, and you see small shapes moving underneath their skin. They move toward you.
Mob
Bug Puppets
HP: 10 x 3 attackers
Auto Damage: 2 per remaining attacker.
Special: If you miss twice in a row, you feel something enter your body, either through your eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or an open wound. Add 1 to your modifier every time this happens. (-7 instead of -6 and so on.) This does not affect charge attacks.

2. The student doesn't come to school today. After checking their records, you find out where they live and go to check on them. The house looks normal at first, but when you pass through the gate, you're faced with a family under attack. They have barricaded themselves within the house as a massive swarm of beetles tries to break in. You hear the warning sound of glass windows beginning to crack.
Mob
Bug Swarm
HP: 30
Auto Damage: 5
Special: If you miss twice in a row, a window breaks open and they begin to attack the family. For every three rolls you make after this, a family member dies.

Should your HP drop to 0, the person you encountered on Day 1 will rescue you. Roll 1 d10 to determine if they survive. (6-10 means they live.)

Should the potential hunter survive, you have the option of recruiting them. If they refuse you need to call for a memory blank for all surviving members of the family. A security watch will placed on the family, and their records will be sifted through for bloodline information, but your job there is done.

3. The student shows up at school, and with some encouragements, begins to talk about the things they see that other people don't. You have the option to either recruit them then and there, or leave if for another hunter to do later. If they refuse the offer, you need to call in to have the memory of this day erased. A security watch will placed on the family, and their records will be sifted through for bloodline information, but your job there is done.

4. Wild Card
Select your choice of the above prompts.

The Exchange Student
Your investigations lead you to believe one of the students is not human at all.

Encounter

Roll 1 d4

1. The student is actually human, with an intense interest in costuming, makeup, and special effects. You find out that most of the odd occurrences were in fact, a small theatre group of students, trying to create their own "found footage" movie within the school. The case has been debunked.

2. The student is a creature of Halloween. They are friendly toward you and mention that they are a member of DETH and ask many questions, some of them possibly of a moral nature. You can choose to try to fight them, but they will not fight back, instead either running away, or taking your attacks until they dissipate. If you want to convince them to be voluntarily weaponized, roll 1d20. 10 and higher means they come to Deus with you.

3. The student is a creature of Halloween and they ******** hate you. They attack as soon as they realize what you are.
Mob:
Creature Student (your choice of species/race)

Day 3: Resolution

The person who you encountered or Day 1 (should they still be alive) has witnessed you do some possibly questionable, illegal, or logically impossible things. It's up to you how you explain things and part ways with them.

Kimberly looked again at the display of her phone, reading once more over the details of the mission ahead before filing it away in an encripted folder. She was heading today to a preppy high school and had woke to find a uniform hanging from her door. Why the heck did she have to go to a school like that. Ick. It was like someone was out to get her. Thank goodness no one could see her like this. Then again she did of course take a photo of herself in it so she could possibly use it... who knows there may be SOMEONE she would show it to... later.

Okay think of the mission. She is an exchange student. The school she is going to has has issues with things happening that were not normal and someone has gone missing. She has to solve what was going on and report back after taking care of the situation. It seemed easy enough, she just had to try to keep a low profile. Hence the reason, for this mission she had dyed her hair back to it's... um not normal color but a nice auburn that would blend in. She had no idea what he natural shade was anymore.

Her student ID card said her name was Kylie Thomas. A nice bland mundane name that most would not remember. It worked well.

When she passed the gates of the school and headed inside, the first thing to hit her was the intense silence. It was like this place was more than just at lower capacity for Summer, it was almost like the school itself was cringing away from whatever was here. She gave a brief shudder and walked down the halls, peering around and taking note of the small classes still happening. The first floor seemed fairly okay. The dark miasma was still rather present but it was just a minor annoyance. The real issues was when she rose to the second floor.

A student coming out of a class she had just passed was suddenly rushing toward her. Kim turned her head to glance at him but rather than pass her he skidded to a stop and stared at her. "You are new here, why?"

The sun hunter blinked at the abruptness of his words. "Huh? What do you mean? I am just looking around." She looked down at her uniform. Then glanced back up at him arching a brow.

"Good try but you are not a student here. I am on the student council and I worked on the year book, you were not in it." He stood his ground still looking at her with mistrust in his eyes.

"I guess you wouldn't except I was sick that day?" The bland look on his face said it all and she sighed. "I heard some weird stuff is going on here. I wanted to help find out what it is. If something bad is going on, shouldn't someone be doing something? Why not me?" She waited for the good old, 'but you are a girl' comments, but they didn't come. Instead he nodded slowly, as if understanding.

Okay guess I wasn't being fair to him. He seemed kind of.. well... agressive really.

"Actually I wanted to do something too, but the teachers and other students are trying to play dumb. The old s**t of ignore it and it will go away. If you are serious and need a hand I will help out. I like a good mystery too." The boy nodded slightly and held out his hand. "Winston."

Kim exhaled slowly and held out her own. "Kylie."

Well that was one thing, but she was going to have to keep an eye on him now. Still better him being where she can see him than where he would get in the way.

"Look Kylie come back tomorrow, less people will be here and we can really go over this place. Student council, I have keys." Winston dangled them and nodded. "Gotta get back to class. Tomorrow."

Well, that was that. She didn't leave right away and instead walked the other halls and floors just looking, but it was more of the same. If something was here it was hiding for now.

Day 2

As suggested by Winston Kim showed up again at the school the next day, not that she wouldn't have anyway. To her surprise he was waiting for her at the entrance, and nodded to her as she walked toward him. "Hey, Kylie was it?" Kim nodded and gave a small smile. "Yup, so.. where were you planning to show me?"

He gave a bit of a shrug and made a sweeping gesture. "Up to you, I have the keys though and no classes so I can let you into closed areas." Kim nodded at Winston and walked into the entrance of the school, her eyes taking in a new notice in the entry. "Bugs?"

She looked at the note closely. Something about aggressive bugs showing up, and for students to point them out asap. She took mental note of it. Wasps were normal but to need to add a notice about it..?

Still bugs did appear like it or not. She shrugged a bit and moved on, walking down the hall, still on the main floor when she was stopped by the sight of a student, one from one of the classes the day before. The student was covered in bruises and did not look like they were doing well. She was sure they were not like that the day before, but before she could mention it, the student darted off. The whole, things being weird scenario was making more sense now. If not wrong, it was certainly off.

Next stop was the gym, where a large pool was off to one side in a closed area, she gestured that she wanted to look in there, and Winston shrugged opening the door. She walked down the side of the pool, looking around for anything that didn't feel right, and nearly jumped out of her skin, and fell into the pool. (Not a good idea when water was NOT your friend) as Winston pointed out someone. "That kid is Josh, no one really likes him, he is kind of creepy."

Kim looked at the boy who was looking at a book and pointedly ignoring them. "Why is that?" Okay he seemed like a book worm but that didn't make him creepy.

"When asked questions he kind of stares into no where and answers monotone. When people see him alone he sometimes seems to be talking to nothing. It is just... you know.. weird." Kim arched a brow at that not sure if that was as weird as Winston thought. Hunters were usually in a state something like that, but he didn't need to know that. "Oh..."

Nodding a bit she moved on, heading down the stairs off the side of one hall now after leaving the pool and gym, down into the basement where there seemed to be way too many traps. "Geeze, Rat issue?" She made a sweeping gesture to the floor, that seemed like some kind of test in determination if one wanted to go further. "If we take more than a step in there we are going to end up snapped up pretty bad."

Winston just stared too. "Never saw a rat in here, but... maybe this is why?"

Kim didn't know what to say, and new she needed to think about what she was seeing. With a deep breath she turned around. "I think I saw all I need to see. I will see you tomorrow Winston and let you know what I found."

He looked a bit upset at being left out of her thoughts, but if what she was thinking was true, this would take some working out.

[Day 3]

The next morning Kim headed to the school, not too sure if she wanted to talk to Winston. If what she was thinking was true, there was something bigger than expected here. If she was right, there was a potential hunter roaming here and she needed to track them down and find out what was going on. This was going to become a royal mess if she didn't locate them. If her past was any marker, there was a great potential for massive death.

It was time to locate the student that had been sitting alone with the book near the pool area. Winston wasn't around, a small mercy for this meeting. The boy was actually outside of the school and she gestured to him causing him to first turn away, then glance back, as if curious at someone who wasn't moving away from him. "Hey, come here, I need to speak to you."

Again there was hesitation, but for some reason he came close. "Sit down on the grass with me. I think we need to speak, about.. something going on here."

Instanty his walls went up. "I didn't do anything!" Kim waved one hand not just to shush him but to say it didn't matter at the moment.

"Feh, I didn't ask if you did, at least not yet. I wanted to ask... if you see that?" She gestured toward a small half formed shadow that was disipating on it's own. The boy reacted just as he thought she would, his back going ridged, eyes wide and a look of fear on his face. "Bingo.."

"You-you see it too?" His voice filled slowly with hope, it covered the fear, the anger that had been just under the surface. He seemed about to grab her arm.

"Yup, for years now. I bet they scare the hell out of you. Weird shadows, bugs that shouldn't exist, creatures that roam around. Icky things that seem to live just outside of where others an look?" With each comment he nodded, the hope rising in his eyes. "Yeah, that is why I am here. You have a gift. A special one, and.. I want to ask you if you want to DO something about it. Use it to help people who need help, who can't see these things and can't fight them."

Now the hope was tinged with fear, aprehension. She knew that too. Not everyone wanted to fight, to learn to deal.

"Hey you don't need to fight them if you don't want, there are other things, other ways to help out. You can learn about them to help those who fight, heal those who need it. Just be support. It takes all kinds."

She was surprised to hear the boy respond. "Please.. teach me." Hmm, well maybe someday.

"It may not be me teaching. I'm kind of... weird too" She winked. "But I can assure you there are a lot of good people. So you want to come?"

When he nodded she smiled.

Mission well done, and a new Hunter. There could never be enough, she just wouldn't tell him the expected life span of a sun hunter...

"Okay... um.."

"Chris."

"Okay Chris, lets go."
