So... any Dwarf Fortress players out there? If so, got any tales you'd like to tell of particular experiences with the game?
Before anyone asks, I actually got interested in Dwarf Fortress after watching MarcusAureliusLP's Tales of Enthador videos. One thing he does is that he lets his viewers name the dwarves that show up. Specifically, the tales I'm telling follow the viewpoint of my dwarf counterpart, Ari Helmcactus, who's basically written journal entries chronicling his experiences (yeah, there's no guarantee that a viewer's dwarf counterpart matches their gender. I'm female, but Ari Helmcactus is a male).
At the bottom of this post are the links to the documents where I'm typing up these journal entries. Yeah... these are pretty big documents. Because of the premise of how Snȗnbuzong enters the fold, I recommend reading the Enthador volume first. Also... before anyone asks, there are a few things I need to say about Enthador and Snȗnbuzong.
First off, I myself am not playing in the Enthador world. The entries there, when they talk about Enthador, are mainly commenting on events that happen in the episodes that MarcusAureliusLP posts and/or explaining what Ari's been up to.
Second, Snȗnbuzong is actually the third world I generated. The first two worlds had something about them that made me not want to try them out right away. I do have a document for the very first world, but I want to hold off on posting a link to that volume until I'm actually ready to play on that world. To summarize my issues - the first world was too big for the number of civilizations to where it was hard to find one that had sufficient action and I forgot to turn off aquifers; the second one I tried using islands, but that might've isolated too many of the civilizations to where action was minimized. I think I know which civilization I want to play as in both of those worlds, but I didn't feel like I was ready to try them.
Third, and this goes for pretty much any volume I write, MASSIVE SPOILERS ABOUND, so any who want to be surprised better stay away from these until you're ready.
Finally, as the Snȗnbuzong volume depicts my very first time playing Dwarf Fortress, I'm not above using DFhack and save-scumming. I even once made an attempt at editing raws which didn't turn out so well (basically I tried to make it easier to deal with Spoiler stuff, but the backup save I tried it on only froze when I tried to load it.). I basically try to come up with in-universe excuses for these, such as calling DFhack magic thanks to a spellbook granted to Ari, save-scumming and back-up saves as dreams and/or visions, and editing raws as a magic potent enough to rewrite reality. Granted, Ari Helmcactus is probably a dwarf that breaks the fourth wall in parts, so who knows how well or poorly I handled that.
