Shiki took one looked at the room and his heart dropped. He was still lost but there was more danger here than he could manage. He felt his ears folding down and his tail drooping. He knew he could go no further unless he did something about the creepy shadowy things, but he also knew that he if did anything about them there was a chance they would do something about him.
At an impass the Kitsune closed his eyes, hugged himself and tried to imagine he was ANYWHERE else.
Realizing that was going to get him nowhere he finally uncurled and took a deep breath One shadow at a time.. slow and steady...
Well this was going to suck, the only good thing was that the shadows that were bouncing around the room didn't seem to be actively attacking him, just stopping him from going anywhere. He shifted to his fox form and decided to just chomp on them till they were gone. If he was seeing correctly it was as if there was something glinting beyond them and he wanted to see what it was.
He bounced over and snapped at the edge of a shadow trying to toss it to the side, which of course was pointless as the shadow just moved back.
One of the shadows popped out of being, but as it did, it somehow hurt Shiki with a kind of.. non-real shrapnel effect that made the kitsune boy jump back yelping and pawing at his face in surprise. Had that been a fluke or something? It had hurt. He looked at the shadows still there and tilted his head, tails flicking about. Something was not right here. The puffball of a fox sat down a moment looking quizically at the shadows before chomping at the next to get close to him.
The next shadow popped too, and he yelped again, this time skittering back away from it, not sure what to do. If he bit them and actually stopped them they hurt him. If he didn't they just got in the way. He winced and went after the next one which again, popped and hurt him. One left. He had to somehow deal with it. He just didn't want to because they hurt. The thing was showing though, and it was a mirror. He had to get to it.
Trying to ignore the shadow and move to he mirror was pointless. This last one didn't want to get out of his way.
Rather than bite at the last shadow, Shiki chased it around, batting at it gently. Maybe he could convince it that it wanted to stay away from him. The shadow seemed a bit baffled and tried to chase Shiki in turn, which ended up in a weird game of shadow tag.
Shiki hit the shadow, it darted away then came back in front of him again to block him.
Soon enough the fox was bouncing, yipping and wagging his three tails, running all over the room playing with the shadow, forgetting what he was supposed to be doing. This was a fun game as long as he didn't actually damage the last shadow.
Around and around the room they went, seeming like weird playmates. But all good things come to an end... With one slightly too aggressive swat of a paw, he popped the last shadow. There went his toy.
He sat down and let out a yipping cry of sadness, and mingled pain. This was no fair!!!
After a respectful time of mourning over his lost toy, Shiki finally shifted back to his student form and moved to stare into the mirror. He didn't hit it, didn't touch it, just looked at it, walking around it a few times until something seemed to happen.
The image in the mirror changed, showing their school. Something was wrong with it though, it looked like it was inside of some kind of giant bird cage. He didn't remember that being there before. He was actually rather certain he would have seen it. Okay he was mostly certain he would have seen it.
The cage didn't belong there, so... so what could he do?
