[ JOB LISTING ] Transporter
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] Sometimes things need to be moved, quickly. Maybe it's a body, maybe it's only part of a body. Speed, discretion, and the ability to do away with obstacles are all necessary to complete this task.

Several of the clan members who help run the spa have gone missing. Nobody is particularly worried about them as they are the type to like going on adventures without notice or anything approaching consideration for their co-workers. In fact, there's some who would just prefer those three never came back. Mr. E, however, just waves you over and you're pretty sure he's smiling at you.

"There's a little delivery we need made, and you look entirely qualified to make it for me. You will, of course, be rewarded and your valuable contribution to HCorp acknowledged for all of eternity, so and so forth, please just go do it, yes? Be a good child..."

Being a bad child doesn't seem like a very promising life choice.

It's just a little cooler, firmly locked and sealed with something very possibly harmful to you. If you decide to unlock the chest instead of deliver it, roll 1d100. 1-99 means you are now poisoned and lose 10 HP for every post you make today (icly and oocly). If you roll 100, post quote lizbot to see what happens.

The cooler can be delivered in any method of your choice, walking via portals, flying, even driving through the human world is viable. The destination is also your choice.

Roll 3d6 and complete the 3 prompts
  1. Everything goes very smoothly and well. You are safe and also awesome at this.
  2. Your mode of transportation gets destroyed, cutting your HP in half. You must find a new way to get to your destination.
  3. You are attacked by humans, possibly bandits or possibly cops or possibly just really drunk teenagers doing it for their YouTube channel. How do you deal with them? Do you try to stay low key or do you get violent and hella magical with your badself?
  4. You are attacked by two members of Famine. Do you try to persuade them to let you go on your way or do you try to kick their a**? Roll 2d20. Each dice represents a Famine horseman. 15 and over is a success. Every failure costs you 10 HP. You must succeed twice. (Example: is you roll 11 and 17 in one turn, that is one failure and one success.)
  5. The cooler is stolen by birds. To catch them roll 4d4, if any of the dice is a 1, you fail to catch them. You've failed at your job today. When Mr. E sees you next, he's definitely smiling.
  6. You are attacked by a Hunter. You can choose to fight or escape. To escape, roll 1d20. Anything 16 or higher means you've gotten away. Anything less and you've been hit for 10HP and need to either try again or try fighting back. To fight, roll 2d8. The first die is you, the second is the Hunter. The one that is higher wins that exchange. The first to hit the other three times wins the confrontation. (In the case of a tie, your horseman wins.)

Ollie'd been itching to get out -- and so he was at the portal early, checking his phone for the time with his head down and shaggy hair falling into his eyes. The fidget was already in his step, which didn't bode well for sitting long enough to do whatever task had been assigned to him, but his leg stilled as Nena approached and his head lifted and he flashed her that wide, bright smile. He was polite enough to tuck his phone away instead of playing with it as she got closer, both of his eyebrows raised as he took her in.

They were all a bit battered by the flood. He thought she usually looked better, but nothing any of them could do about that now, except venturing out into the world to see what they could scrounge up.

"Ready?" His eyes were bright with excitement, but that was hardly new. He took one step back toward the portal almost before she had time to reply.

If her clothing wasn't quite as neatly pressed as it was usually, and the hair not necessarily pulled back as smoothly as was usual for the petite Death hunter, then the situation was indeed a little direr. She did, however, still appear to be in good spirits, but then she had plenty to be thankful for. After all, they had all survived the storm. Her deepest friends were safe, Vallie was perfect, and they were finding more salvageable books in the library than she had been expecting to find. Everything was still a mess, but progress as being made.

So she returned that bright smile with a grin of her own, and if he hadn't started backing eagerly towards the portal, she would have laid a hand on his shoulder so she could give him her usual peck on the head.

Instead she just chuckled and shooed him ahead. "Yes, let's go." If he had to wait any longer, she was afraid he might explode from an over abundance of energy. "Lead the way, Ollie."

"I haven't been off island in what feels like forever." He chattered at her absently as they headed to the portal -- but at least he quieted as they emerged on the other side, to make their way to the day spa for their assignment. They were meant to be in disguise, undercover, and his chattering would almost certainly give them away.

Instead, he let Nena organize the basics; he let her talk to the people and get the keys to a vehicle, only stepping in to take the box and wrap both of his arms around it loosely. It settled in his lap as the drove, and only once the Human Corporation was in their rearview mirror did he tip his head to look up at her and resume conversation.

"This is dumb, but at least it's something, right? Like a little vacation. We should stop at a gas station and get some snacks --" He filled the air easily for the better part of half an hour, only letting silence break in when something thunked near the front of the vehicle and it came to a slow, winding halt, no matter what they tried. Then he blinked, stupidly, toward the front.

The road stretched far forward and far back behind them. He started to say something, and then hesitated, for the moment at a loss for words. Especially as smoke started to billow up from the engine.

Nena was more than happy to let Ollie talk to his heart's content, providing answers or comments where needed or desired, but otherwise staying peacefully quiet as they drove. The car, or rather the ridiculously large SUV, was large enough that she had to sit up fairly straight to see over the dash, seat drawn up close tot he wheel, and as high as it could go. She felt like a little girl playing in her daddy'scar, though it was fairly comfortable. She'd found a nice station, and it was playing softly in the background as they chit-chatted.

"We can definitely stop for snacks, get enough to take back with us." Which, to Nena, meant probably sharing, but to Ollie might mean squirreling them away for later.

It have to wait though. A few more miles, and the engine started making some rather distressing noises. "Oh no. We're not out of gas..." She frowned, leaning forward a little to peer out the window, and then groaned as smoke started rising up from the hood. "That's not good."

A short investigation (get it, short?), would only provide enough information to ensure that neither hunter knew anything about car engines, and this problem was beyond the scope of their capabilities. I meant they were going to have to walk,at least for a bit.

It didn't seem like they got more than a mile and a half before they encountered a problem, though. A pair of horsemen, Famine by the looks of them. Nena frowned, laying a hand on Ollie's shoulder to bring him to a stop as she watched them approaching.

It was kind of her to try to protect him, but there was pretty much no way that Ollie would allow it. For a moment he stood, just a breath -- and then, with a low noise, he set their package down and drew his weapons, all of it in one smooth moment.

"There's only two of them." He said it low, confident and comfortable, and then threw himself in to strike out. Ollie was good at this; certainly better than a seventeen year should should have been. It was easy for him to occupy one of the two horsemen, the pair exchanging blows and leaving the other to Nena's care.

It had been an automatic gesture, though when Ollie moved out to confront the horsemen Nena hadn't tried to stop him. He was a capable fighter, if a bit reckless. She'd seen him face off against worst and come out the other side just fine. Besides, with her there as well, she rather liked their chances.

The young intermediate was quick to pair off against one of the two, which left the other to Nena to take care of. She watched them striding towards her impassively, and t the last moment, as their arm had been drawn back to strike, she'd smile. Sweet and soft. "We're on a tight schedule, you'll have to excuse us." It came with the curve of her blade pressing up against the horseman's side, and as she drew back from him, smile broadening, she pulled the weapon back to cut a deep slice into the horseman's side.

He fell away at once, eyes widening as he clutched at his side, and he'd grab retreat, grabbing the arm of his partner to drag them away, back where they'd come from.

Just a little breathless, just a little bit bruised, his eyes bright and expression excited, he turned to face another opponent...and they were already gone. Slowly he lowered his weapons, looking that faintest bit disappointed. It was a long moment before he finally stooped and picked up their package again, shaking his head at Nena.

"What's in here, do you think?" It was skeptical, shaking the chest just a tiny bit in his arms, as they started walking again. As of yet, they hadn't seen any other cars on the road. They could wonder at the contents for a bit before one finally showed up, rushing a good fifty feet past them before skidding to a halt and backing up again, backup lights flickering.

Out of the passenger's seat appeared one teenager, his own eyes red and his attitude shaky as he took in the chest in Ollie's grasp. He eyed the pair of them -- short and brown, both -- and grinned just a bit, saying something quiet to his friend in the driver's seat. Then he reached into the back for a crowbar.

"Whatcha got there?" He had to be strung out, approaching them with his makeshift weapon in hand. Ollie didn't look very impressed. Maybe Nena would have tried to talk to the dumb kid, but instead Ollie stepped forward close enough to clock him in the face with the corner of the chest.

He went down like a sack of potatos, and a moment later the driver got out of the car to come shout at them. Ollie just looked at him, hefting the chest, and the guy went pale. Instead, he stooped to check on his friend.

For his part, Ollie pointed meaningfully to the car. The keys were still in the ignition, and they did need another means of transportation...

"I'm not sure." And she couldn't quite hide her own curiosity, or the slight temptation to peek inside. Caution and common sense would prevent the latter; there was no telling what was inside there, and while it could very easily have been something benign, it could also have been something quite dangerous. In a sealed cooler, the odds didn't seem stacked high enough in their favor.

So they wouldn't check, and conversation would carry on for a bit until both quieted as a car zipped past, stopped, and then backed up until it was right before them. She watched impassively as some red eyed youth stepped out to look the pair of them over, lean back in to murmur to the driver, and then emerge completely with the crowbar. "Oh my." It sounded more amused than concerned.

She didn't bother trying to talk the young man down, nor did she say anything when Ollie clocked him in the face. If anything she seemed rather delighted by the whole thing, and when Ollie got her attention to point at the car, she'd nod and start walking for the drivers side.

Once inside, buckled in safely and on the road once again, she'd grin at her travel companion. "Perhaps that will teach them not prey on those smaller than themselves."

As Ollie dropped down into the passenger's seat beside her, he couldn't disguise his own grin. He reached for his seatbelt, ready to pull it on -- and then paused, blinking a little bit, and looking down at his lap. All at once, he threw himself out of the vehicle to head back to where the owner of the car had fallen, realizing he left the chest lying on the ground.

It was still there, but it was surrounded by a handful of crows, who each looked at him with their heads cocked to one side. It seemed to him that there was something just a bit unnatural about them; they were unnerving, and so he approached slowly.

When he was about three steps away, they exploded into conversation, cawing and screaming in his direction. Between two of them, they managed to get the box up into the air and took off into the sky, Ollie shouting and chasing after them.

Maybe, if he could have flown, he would have caught up to them. Maybe he could have wrestled the box back. As it was, all he could do was stare after them, him and Nena left with a stolen car and two downed local jerks.

Nena raised a brow at him as he suddenly throw off the seat belt and sped out of the car. She turned in her seat to watch him sprint back for the cooler, only to find it surrounded by a cluster of large, dark birds. "Oh dear." Of course, they were just birds, so what was the worst they could do?

Make off with their cooler, apparently. Pale eyes widened as two of the large ravens worked together to lift their package from the ground and then fly off with it. "You've got to be kidding me. How is that even..." Nena sighed, and after a moment she sank back down in her seat.

After another moment she leaned out the open window of the car to call back to Ollie. "Nothing we can do now, how about we just go home?"

Downtrodden, all Ollie could do was nod a little, halfway pouting as he turned back to her. He'd sink down into the passenger's seat to sulk, just a bit, staring out the window. But he'd get over it, eventually.
