The Sun meetings were traditionally held in the pit, a massive archaic arena dug out in one side of the training fields covered in a thick runic net. The general idea of the pit decades ago was that the nets would only be unfolded after one victor crawled out from the masses of bodies, but in general, the idea sounded a lot better than it actually was, as was the issue with most Sun ideas. Of course, since it was a meeting, they couldn't exactly Hunger Games it, so instead, the net was unfolded, and dirty yoga mats were placed in the center area.
At one point, Hunter had found live apex minipets, each of them larger than a draft horse, with the sole intention of starving them to bring out into the pit as a sort of a weekly training regiment he was offering. Unfortunately, when they had melted together due to lack of proper care and general negligence, the result Lovecraftian fusion caused entire thing to be cancelled due to psychological damage.
In the past few years, the pit was mostly just used for mud wrestling and that was that. And those sparring competitions that everyone loved that always resulted in someone from Mist winning, to Hunter's chagrin.
The Sun lead's name was Hunter. It lead to general cases where he thought everyone was talking about him, even the plurals, and then a large swell of pride when everyone on the island talked about the value of Hunters or the destiny of Hunters. Some called it narcissism, he called it a tragedy they didn't just carve a statue of him right in front of the main headquarters, which really should be named the Hunter Main Headquarters next to the Hunter labs and the Hunter dorms. Spanning a majestic five foot three, he probably thought he was intimidating; tanned skin, cropped hair and no scars, and a baby face on par with CG Tom Cruise in that one movie, probably Mission Impossible 2, or maybe that one specific one where Tom Cruise fought aliens. That one.
"Right," Tom Cruise, or rather, Hunter said, addressing the Sun Hunters from above the pit, or a really just on the ledge. He had his own yoga mat draping downwards, or five yoga mats taped together, because he was worth five whole yoga mats. "You know why we are called Hunters?" Yes, this was weird and everyone knew it, "Because we fight. We fight, and win. Now you can either stay in there forever, in the pit, or you can fight to get out of it."
Was this an analogy or literal? Nobody knew. At least he hadn't gotten to the weird having to defend the planet from the aliens conspiracy theories yet.

SUN DIVISION MEETING:
Welcome to the Sun division meeting. This is where all characters start for week 2! All you need to do here is RP/fulfill the a reaction post of your character attending the meeting and then you can get started on all the prp/solo/orps for week 2. We also ask if characters can come back to fill the division assessment (or do it ASAP), seen on the second post, which grants bonus rewards as part of the MAIN STORYLINE. Sometimes Hunters want funding/approval for additional division related projects You can post requests for these in this thread and quote the GMs of this thread. For example: I'd like extra money to reform an abandoned base in the Arctic.

gaia_crown[ DIVISION ASSESSMENT ] Each division also has a division assessment. This is part of your character's MAIN STORYLINE task for their Week 2 beginning. Simply do the task in this thread, and rp out as necessary. You can run prps/orps/solos outside of this thread too before OR after completing the assessment, definitely don't let it wall you from doing other things as well for your week 2 character!
gaia_crown[ ADDITIONAL IC INFO : All characters are currently located in a pretty shallow 10-foot deep hole that looked like at some point it was supposed to be a swimming pool that was never filled in or tiled. There's a bit of pond scum still lingering in the pit, but it's otherwise harmless. There's rumours that the pit was used for annual Battle Royale cullings where the strongest Sun Hunters would clamber into the pit with only one survivor remaining, but since the same Sun Hunters just remained every year regardless weak or strong, it was probably either an intimidation tactic or somehow, maybe, the T word was involved.
gaia_crown[ DIVISION ROLES : It may be hard to understand what your character has to do
Trainee : sparring, grunt work primarily on the island, learning about enemies and Deus history, assisting in missions, runic weapon training, training course mastery, shadowing intermediate/full Sun Hunters.
Intermediate: Surveillance for new and existing missions, one-on-one sparring, tackling more threatened Hunter bases against threats suck as Horsemen, taking the first steps toward narrowing your areas of interest, small personal project (proposals are likely to get modest funding and resources)
Full : Weapons mastery over a variety of weapons including Runics, understanding offensive combat on the field, extensive outside of Deus training, endurance and survival training, distraction tactics, honing weapons bonding to fully utilize all passive and aggressive abilities, front lines offensive against threats.
Specialized : specialized and full are considered the same rank outside of the context of said specialization. Sun specialists are often in combat on the field, assisting with as many missions as possible. They are considered front line Hunters, first to attack and fend any threats away from others and because of this they work tirelessly. There is little room for negligence in this division, and training and body strength is as important as weapon bonding and survival skills. Few specialist Hunters make it past a few years.
Ie: Battling large titans, offensive against Horsemen, staving off Hunter bases from other threats.
(If you're having any issues or questions please post in the QNA or rp anything out and quote Zoobey, or even ICly ask! )

Not far from Hunter (and never far from Hunter) was a tall and very tense looking woman, coiled anger written into every single line of her posture. She was broad in the shoulders and visibly muscled, like a bodybuilder except sleekly functional, the sort of muscle which comes from a lot of fighting rather than a lot of gym time and protein. Her long auburn hair was tied back in a ponytail behind her and she is dressed in a tank top which shows off her - distinctly unshaven - arms, both covered in scars and twisted in strange bone and feather tattoos. There is very little overtly feminine about her and though she is not messy there is a certain aura of coiled chaos which hovers around her. She seems bored by the meeting and keeps glancing out of the window and fidgeting with the belt of her jeans.
Shiv as the Sun Assistant is known, acts as the enforcer of the division in many respects, showing softness only to her partner and even then only grudgingly, fuelling the Lead’s narcissism with sheer encouragement. She expects toughness from her hunters and has no tolerance for weakness whatsoever.

▐▐ [ THE TRAINING COURSE ]
Though the former pit had gotten a bit sad and dilapidated in recent years, Shiv had been constantly bothering Hunter to get a new one, one that would be IMPRESSIVE. After convincing him this was a good idea and would totally work another huge hole had been dug and presented as a surprise at this very meeting. This new part of the sun division’s training regime involves this Pit Redux. It is now ringed by large sharpened wooden stakes to prevent combatants climbing out – with an optional net if people got too feisty - and is completely lined with sawdust to soak up the blood, sweat and tears. Captive creatures are brought here for practice much to the annoyance of Life division, and today in disregard of historical mistakes they’d even managed to get some more Apex creatures.
They would always keep trying to make Pit Happen.
The rest of the division present - and some eager spectators from other divisions looking to claim on the expensive betting pool - gather around the edges to watch and judge who did best overall.
All Sun hunters must take part in the sun training course to dictate their bonus.
You collect toughness points through running this course, this is what dictates your score out of ten from your peers and ultimately your pay bonus for completing the run.
▐▐ [ PART 1 ]
Opponent Selection
Off to one side of the revamped pit is a line up of dangerous looking creatures in cages. There is a hat with bits of paper in it, reaching into the hat nets you the name of your opponent. Some are more fearsome than others.
Roll 1d6, this is your opponent.
1 Shadowlings The most common opponent any sun hunter faces shadowlings are small vaguely human shaped blobs about a half to a quarter the size of a human with strange jerky movements. They come in groups generally, but this one is in a tiny little group. Not a challenge at all. (0 toughness points)
2 Fresh Trainee Exactly as it sounds, a fresh out of the pod trainee. How did they get here? Are they reconsidering their life choices? Not allowed to kill these, they are needed to clean minipets cages. (2 toughness points)
3 Apex Behemoth You got really unlucky - or lucky - depending on how you class it by pulling the biggest hulking brute of an apex monstrosity they managed to snag from the labs. (4 toughness points + bragging rights)
4 Aberration Sometimes on the island when things get left too long they change to monstrous shape. Things like maggots. Things like plants. Things like vegetables. Take your pick. (3 toughness points + 5 extra time before you fall in section 3)
5 Apex Creature A normal apex pet, large as a horse but not quite as dangerous as the behemoth. (2 toughness points + can choose option either side of what you roll in stage 2 )
6 Large shadowling group A much larger group of shadowlings than the other box. Congratulations! (1 toughness points + 5 mins extra time before you fall in section 3)
▐▐ [ PART 2 ]
Offence
One of the most important parts of any sun hunter’s repertoire is the ability to hurt the opponent. Mastering this is integral to anyone on the front line and not fully grasping this is a quick way to a permanent transfer from the division to the graveyard. The gathered hunters judge on finesse, skills, quickness and just downright damage done.
If you write 250 words for your fighting post then you can claim an extra point from this stage (remember you can’t be rated higher than a 10!)
Roll 1d10, this determines how the offence portion of your fight goes. These are all prompts, have fun with them biggrin
Endurance is the showmanship of a battle. You can't just kill them off, where's the skill in that? Even for a difficult enemy it's got to be life and death, you have to put on a real show, especially in the pit. People need time to eat their popcorn and see what you have really got.
Randomise a number between 1-50, this is how long your fight lasted before you either won or had to back off!
If you are a Trainee Hunter – subtract 10 from your total for this
But fighting for ages is hard and a skill that is coveted on the battlefield where there are no breaks.
1-15 It was either short and bad or short and good, your attack would dictate this, either way, low rating for endurance and showmanship. (1 toughness points)
16-20 A dramatic battle where the tables are turned last minute but only one hero can remain victorious! (2 toughness points)
21-30 It runs a little long and the audience start to get bored. Some of the hunters go to get drinks. (1 toughness points)
31-40 People start to get bored but something unexpected happens that brings them all back, they respect your endurance! (2 toughness points)
41-50 A nearly hour long battle to the death or defeat, the enemy involved would define whether this was truly epic or truly pathetic, but the endurance is undeniable. (3 toughness points)
▐▐ [ TOUGHNESS POINTS TOTAL ]
Total of 10 possible points to be gained!
Total up your toughness points, this is the overall rating given by your peers in sun. It is out of 10!

Andrew did not enjoy meetings. They were stupid. He didn't like them. They were boring.
And then every once in a while Hunter got it in his head that they would do "Training" which always seemed to involve a lot of close contact and pissing matches.
He didn't need to be the strongest fish in the pond. He just needed to survive long enough to go home. that was his whole goal, just make it through the next day some how. And if that took learning and training, that's what he did.
But he still hated having these weird wrestling fights.

There were probably very few Sun hunters for whom the idea of a meeting was fun. That was probably why they were here, in the pit, instead of sitting in folding chairs in an empty meeting room, or maybe sitting in an auditorium somewhere listening to their lead talk about the importance of paperwork.
For Ollie, this was a much better fit. If he'd had to sit down, his knee would have bounced a mile a minute, his body rattling impatiently in its chair, waiting for the talking to end instead so that he could get up and do something -- anything. Being in the pit instead had the promise of upcoming activity, the promise of proving themselves, something physical and active. As Hunter gave his speech, he couldn't help but grin, head tipped back to watch every move the man made, thumbs hooked loosely into the pockets of his pants.
His expression was bright, his attitude easy to please, caught up in the rush of it. He couldn't help but get a bit worked up -- the exact intent of it all, most likely -- to such a point that, by the end, he let out a little WOOP! of delight.
Immediately, he looked embarrassed. Skin too dark to belay his hint of a flush, but his eyes flicked in a circle around him to see if anyone else had noticed. And, if they did, he offered another flash of those white teeth in a smile, somewhere between still delighted and apology.

Character's name: Ollie Character's division: Sun Character's journal link:xxx Character's arcana The Star (group E) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER Ollie is pretty much as young as a hunter can possibly be: barely seventeen, brown-skinned and dark-eyed with messy black hair pulled into a tail down the nape of his neck. His expression is all bright smiles, cheerfully willing to take on any task and unafraid to approach any strangers.
Sammy loved team meetings, she stood at the edge of the pit staring up to the sky as she slowly lowered her left hand down to plop her contact into place having rushed so quickly to the pit this morning that she hardly had time to pop her contacts in. A few blinks later and her dull blue, almost grey eyes where replaced with a vibrant purple as she ran her hand through two toned hair. Not dye, not natural gray, a close call with a horsemen of famine, a few weeks in the labs to recover and she was left with a strange white streak in her hair, the horsemen? Last Sammy saw she had cut it in half before returning to base half dead in her own right.
With that done she glanced up at the division lead, she was only paying half attention, she’d heard these kinda pre-meeting speeches plenty of times before. Somewhere in the back of her mind Bastille mentioned that they should pay attention. To which she simply rolled her eyes choosing instead to address Andrew near by, “Oh buck up buttercup, maybe put a smile on that face.” She had a wild grin on her own, “I for one, enjoy team meetings, I love seeing the Trainee’s go through the paces and it’s always good to actually get to crush something with Bastille.” This resulted in a deep chuckle, and perhaps a hint of hissing in her mind.
“If you won’t be first, then I will.”
Strolling towards the cages she cracked her knuckles rolling her shoulders and pulling back the sleeves on her long coat with a smirk, “HEY! Bust open one of those crates” She cried out as she moved into the middle of the Pit with a wild grin, she flexed her left hand, a tattoo of a skull adorning the back of it, reaching towards the sky as they released the first cage.
What shambles out was a twisted creature of Vines and pushing bulbs, it was huge, slow? No, maybe fast. She couldn't tell exactly and it looked like it had a mouth made from a fly trap and bones. All in all, it was ugly, big, and deadly, and Sammy fully intended to kill it.
“I love team meetings.” She said with a wicked grin as the large buster-sword flashed into existence in her raised left hand before falling to rest over her shoulder.

The shambling aberration slowly hauled itself from its container, it was easily twice Sammy’s size once it tugged it’s way out of the cage, wisps of grey lingering in the twisted greens and reds of the sickly mutated plant. Trace insanity? It didn’t matter either way. As she usually did Sammy took a few running steps twisting to bring her sword off her shoulder and spin one full circle she flung the heavy blade across the empty space between them before dashing after it. She cut a sharp shape, bright white coat and gold trim flickering against the dark of the muddy pit as her blade crashed through the first out reaching tentacle in a shower of unknow gore and fluids. “Oh so it's going to be wet today huh?” Bastille groaned in her mind, he hated messy fights, then again EVERY fight was messy the way Sammy took to them.
The heavy blade was stuck in the ground after crashing through the now writhing tentacle in the mud that was only growing slicker as the tendil spat dark green, almost brown fluids into the already ruined pit. The next tendril had a pointed tip, it came rushing forward much faster than expected, but she had reached Bastille just in time to rip the blade from the earth. The tendril crashed against the wide flat of the heavy blade turned away with its own speed as Sammy rushed farther inward to get to the core of the beast. Even as she ran she dragged Bastille along the ground before hoisting him up in a wide arc splitting open the tendril above her that had just lashed out. Again; god only knows what came raining down as the length of plant and flesh started to whip about in agony showering the field in droplets of its gore.
For Sammy’s part she only laughed, “That all you ******** got!?” She was almost to the strange jaw of the beast, many smaller tendrils lashing out at her now. Some with pointed tips, others with spikes pointed every which way. She met all of them head on, blocking some, getting whipped by a few others and hardly pausing as she severed those in reach while ignoring the rest.

The problem now was that the closer she got the more vicious the twisting aberration protected it’s core. At one point the large tendrils all raised into the sky, pointed down towards the ground around it and dove home. To those watching from the top of the pit they would get a proper view of Sammy as she was launched into the air from the assault, her weapon in hand before she pin wheeled back to the start halfway across the pit from the beast.
She lay in the mud, soaked in various fluids, coated in the thick paste that always seemed to line the pit. For a moment she didn’t move, then? She laughed; she laughed deep and heavy from the core of her frame with pure delight as she sat up hoisting herself to her feet, it wasn’t going to be a short fight, not at all. Once more she rushed in, cleaving tendril after tendril as more seemed to manifest, the faint tinge of the word home almost lingering in the air as grey and green tendrils raised into the sky to slam down again.
Even as they fell Sammy laughed, her weapon fully charged she crouched low holding the blade back, there was a burst of light, the tendril seeming to slow for a moment as Bastille’s charge “Gorgons Gaze” slowed it down letting Sammy go to work hacking away at the the tendrils as they slowed in their fall. More and more gore splattered in the arena, it went on like this for over half an hour. Sammy being pushed back, thrown around, but never in a way that left her mortally wounded, her coat was in tatters she was stained and stunk of the fight, but she smiled the whole time.
Finally after almost an hour of fighting she drove to the core of the slowly limping beast, she smashed the strange bone like teeth in leaving it howling in agony mouth wide open, exposed Sammy pulled back her weapon one last time, all the way over her head, the back of the blade almost touching her own back. All before pinwheeling it right through the open mouth and out the back side of the beast. There was shudder, a shake, and finally the creature collapsed as Sammy casually turned and walked away stretching her arms into the air.
“And THAT is how you start a team meeting,” she declared to any and all Sun’s standing before her. Glancing up she looked to Shiv, “HEY! SHIV! How much was that one worth?!”

Watching Sammy left Ollie bouncing again, mouth parted just slightly -- and more than a bit jealous that he hadn't been the first one to take the plunge out of standing around like an idiot and into the action. So he didn't hesitate another moment, or waffle around. Instead he bounced forward, bright and excited, to claim his opponent.

At five-foot-nothing, the monster he pulled was several times bigger than Ollie. For a moment, he stood and stared at it slack-jawed and uncertain. Then, with a grin spreading over his face again, he drew the twin antler knives that served at his weapon.
"Sure. Why not."

Of course, watching a monster face a teenager didn't prove to be as exciting as it perhaps should have. Despite his bravado, a thrill of fear traveled down Ollie's spine as the monster looked down its snout to take him in -- and decided, apparently, that he was found wanting. 6. Boring fight (1 toughness points +1 for word count)
He wasn't a threat, obviously, so why should the beast fight him? And for a moment, Ollie was left looking flustered, eyebrows pulled together and eyes flicking out to the other gathered Sun hunters, to see if they were poking fun. Surely at least one was -- and so he squared his shoulders again, huffing out a breath, and started in on the monster.
The first few slashes and pokes went largely ignored. It was only when he jumped up on the monster's back that it even seemed to notice his pricking stabs and sideways slashes. He was a gnat, more or less, and the beast's reply was a whuffing breath outward, a low whine, and a hard shake of his body that sent Ollie tumbling free.
Of course, now Ollie was annoyed, with blood on his weapon and a tear down one side of the already-ragged shirt he'd been wearing. All the flustered looks and sideways glances were gone. Instead he frowned at the monster, set his feet again, and grumbled back at it. It wasn't the first time someone perceived him as no threat at all.

He should have taken his time, probably. The point of this exercise was to show your strength, your endurance, your ability to keep moving on the battlefield. The point definitely was not to kill the monster immediately. Especially not by accident.
But he was angry, and a little bit embarrassed by his poor showing so far. He'd wanted to make a good impression in front of his fellow hunters and, aside from his willingness to take on a beast that could swallow him whole, he hadn't exactly done a good job of it. So this time, when he threw himself into battle, he really threw himself into battle.
He went for a slash across the chest, bounding and bouncing in, but he aimed just a little bit high. The fact that he hit across the throat was entirely unintentional.
The fight was over in a breath and he was left looking just faintly frustrated, blinking at the monster. That should have been more impressive.
Paige didn't love or hate meetings. They were just there, sometimes useful in detailing their next mission or giving them vital info on the enemy, or they could prove to be great for practicing their craft, which was beating the ever loving s**t out of things.
Today it would be about the latter. She had to admit though, showing off just how bad a** she was to everyone in sun was always fun. But she hadn't jumped in just yet. She was standing on the edge, watching how other hunters fought their opponents. She was always interested in their technique, because she had taken it on as her personal mission to make sure everyone could fight their best, and she would do everything to improve them, to make them stronger so they would all stay alive.
Andrew didn't seem enthusiastic about jumping in to fight. She turned to him at his less then happy comment, reaching out to provide a friendly back slap of encouragement. "Aww, it's not that bad! We gotta keep ourselves sharp, plus you might learn something new."
Sammy was the first, her flashy techniques always fun to see as was her enthusiasm for battle, showing them all how it was done with her powerful blows. At one point her eyes widened when she laid in the mud unmoving, ready to jump in but she was up again. Paige wasn't sure if that was a act or if she had really been hurt.
When it was over she clapped with a few other hunters. "Nice!" She called out. Then another hunter jumped into the fray. This one didn't appear to be as experienced, quite young in fact, so she was more on edge when Ollie picked another giant hulking monster to fight.
"Stay strong, you can do this!" She called out some encouragement, watching the teen poke and prod at the monster who clearly didn't care. "Look for weak spots! Under the arms, in the chest, even the eyes!" These could be hard to find on the misshapen shambles of beasts but they were there.
Then in a flash it was dead, Paige sighed in relief when he looked unharmed. though he didn't look too impressed by it. Probably concerned with not being able to show off for as long. Then she was sliding down the edge into the pit herself, walking to the main event.
"Hey, that was pretty good." She said. "You took a giant monster down faster then half the others could. Better to do things fast then to draw the battle out." She offered a smile.

Iyari could remember almost every single science fiction movie she had watched and nearly all had some sort of scene like this. She looked thoroughly unmoved by the pep talk, but her bright green eyes moved towards the others as they began the fight their way out, it seemed more interesting than hearing what had been pounded into her skull from day one. There was more to action than words, after all. "Hey, make some room!" She called, standing and popping the gum in her mouth.
Forcefully, she moved through the others and stared at the cages, her eyes sparkling at the larger cages with glee. Nearby, someone had managed to bag themselves a nice vine monster and Iyari was hoping to get something close. With a precise hand she pulled the paper and opened it - her mouth twisting from a smirk to a terse scowl. She crumpled it and tossed it behind her. "Give me the hoard." She said lowly, glaring at the cage with the shadowlings falling over each other.
Damn it all I wanted the big one. She thought as the cage slowly opened.

The cage opened and they were on her, though they were like slicing through marshmallows. Quick to slash through, but they would reform if left to their own devices. Iyari started quickly, rushing forward and she smirked as she felt the long blade strike against one of them, moving her body into the swing. "One down..." Her eyes moved to the next one and she swung again. As it ducked she hopped over it, turning to slash back at it with another smirk. It was a tunnel vision against the brave little group of shadowlings now falling over each other.
She popped her gum again as she scanned for the next target.
Gripping hold of the kopis blade in her hands she moved in for a swing, overhead to make a powerful blow that would be enough to slice it in half - or it would have if it had remained where it was. Iyari slammed the blade into the ground, staring beyond to where the shadowling had been forcibly moved by another summoned creature. "Hey, keep tabs of your own battle!" She barked at the others, rolling her eyes in contempt before she rushed back to corral her lost shadowling back into the hoard.
Unlike a single shadowling, they used each other to their advantage, skidding against each other and jumping over. Iyari was annoyed and heaved her weapon again, slicing along another group but had to pull her blade back at the last minute, watching as a trainee went whizzing by and she grunted.
Next time I'm not going to stop my attack. She thought darkly - though recanted since slicing off the head of a trainee was probably not a good idea.

It was hard to muster any enthusiasm for a fight when her opponent was not only tiny but insignificant and not worth her time. They stood there, tiny bodies jerking and ready to throw their tiny claws at her but she opted to ignore them and watch what everyone else was doing, She even pulled her phone out th check the Dorothy app for a moment. Her summoned blade was pushed into the ground, using it as a lean so she could comfortably watch everyone else.
Another full hunter was taking on a larger mass of shadowlings, more of a challenge then the few she was dealing with.
Her technique seemed pretty good, though there were others in the pit now making it hard for the hunter to fight. The creatures were starting to interfere with each other's fights.
Her match ups were now starting to creep closer, thinking she wasn't watching them and sensing a time to strike. One leaped out at her, but to it's shock she simply leaned away and let it whiz by her head harmlessly. Now it was a game where they all jumped at her but she just had to step out of the way.
The crowd of hunters watching her were just as enthusiastic about this fight as she was. Meaning they were bored out of their brains and were watching everyone else too. Some of them looked at her a few times to see her just moving and not fighting, clearly not even bothered, and went back to looking at other matches.
Hey, it wasn't her fault they gave her a boring target.
