Malik was squinting as he normally did since he couldn't see very well, he planned on getting a pair of glasses sometime soon. He didn't want to bother his parents about his problem since they over reacted about a lot of things that had to do with him and his siblings. He was sitting outside in the school courtyard holding his school book trying to see what was written so he could do his homework but it wasn't going very well. Malik sighed and closed the book, squinting at the green blobs above him wondering what they actually were, Malik had never been sure.
--------------------------
Cheri stood in the courtyard, purse slung casually over one shoulder, as she surveyed her prospects. Pickings were scarce. Most the freshlings had returned to their dorms or gone out to the playground where they were under heavy supervision, and a delinquent like herself would not go unnoticed. Of the few that wandered the outdoor halls however, none inspired much confidence. Cheri blew out her cheeks and popped her lips. She needed someone both cooperative and absolutely pitiful.
Suddenly her eyes alighted on a young hybrid curled up in grass. She liked the cut of his shirt. She had no idea what the "R" stood for, but it was bold and she could appreciate bold. She gave the freshling a quick up and down. It only took her a moment to realise that the boy had two sets of ears and pupiless eyes. Perfect. The imp bounded over to the child.
"Ohhhh~~~~! Look at you!" she exclaimed, stooping down in front of the boy. "You're so cute! I just want to pinch your cheeks." She extended a hand towards him. "My name's Cheri. What's yours?"
-----------------------------
Malik looked up when a blurry blob came up to him and started complimenting him, cute him?? He didn't know since he couldn't see himself clearly. "Ummm.. I don't.. I'm not.. Uhh I'm Malik." He said in a nervous little tone. The blob was about the size of a senior. So a senior was talking to him. Calling him cute and asking his name, what the heck was going on here?? Malik squinted at the figure named Cheri trying to figure out what was going on. "Umm hi." He said softly wondering what they wanted with him, he couldn't help them if they were lost.
---------------------------
Shy kid. Cheri could work with shy. With a little conversation and some sweet incentive she would get him to open right up in no time. She plopped down beside the hybrid.
"Nice to meet you, Malik," she said. She curled her tail around her and stretched back onto the grass. The grass felt pleasant under her palms. She continued, "So, what are you doing on a day like this, camping out in the courtyard? Seriously, school's out. Aren't cha supposed to be having fun?" The imp poked her tongue out at the kid.
----------------------------
Malik shook his head and said "Well I don't really have any friends, and I can't see very well so going to the blurry place with the other burry things and beings doesn't work very well. I kept meaning to talk to my parents about glasses but haven't gotten around to it." He shrugged his shoulders and looked at Cheri's blobby color form since it was all he could see of them. "You look bigger than a freshling, so why are you here in the courtyard chatting with me?" Malik asked kinda nervously he didn't really like being the center of attention.
-----------------------------
Cheri nodded along sympathetically as the freshling described his blindness. On the inside however, she was patting herself on the back. She had chosen well. A kid that could not see would be sure to guarantee pity. Now she just had to reel him in on her scheme.
"I was bored and you looked lonely," she answered. "When I was a freshling I used to be all by myself too, so I thought I would give you some company." She leaned in close towards the freshling. She placed her hands on her knees. "Say, how old do you think I am?" she asked, pursing her lips.
-------------------------------
Mailk smiled shyly at the figure and said "Umm junior or senior??" His tone was friendly he didn't think that Cheri had any naughty plans for him it never crossed his mind that someone would try to make him do something bad. Why would they everyone was nice right? There weren't bad people well except for the bad guys that had made that one freshling scared but they were family members of theirs, weren't they? Malik tried to remember. "Umm so what did you want to do today??" Malik asked Cheri curiously, he wondered if Cheri really wanted to be his friend.
--------------------------------
"Ooooh! You're smart!" Cheri laughed and clapped her hands together with delight. "Well, I guess we'll just have to keep it a secret, won't we?" She winked at the boy. Not that he could see it. Even if he had not been near blind, her bangs hid her eyes from view. She continued.
"I guess sight-seeing is out of the question," she teased. "Though we could do some... sight-tasting or sight-listening." The imp adjusted herself on the grass so she faced him. She grabbed ahold of his shoulders. "C'mon! I'm gonna be your big sis for today, so let's think of something fun! What can't you normally do?"
-----------------------------
Malik liked Cheri they were nice to him and paid attention to him, and even though they made a joke it didn't have a mean edge to it so he laughed too. "I like to smell, taste and listen." He said is a gentle tone. "Ok so where to first since you can see right and I can't??" Mailk was really looking forward to getting a pair of glasses then he would be able to see stuff he was curious about the blurry world around him that others spoke of that he had never seen. Mailk held his hand out to Cheri and waited.
-------------------------------
Releasing the boy, Cheri pursed her lips and pretended to think. "Well..." she began with feigned uncertainty. "How do you feel about ice-cream?" A ghost of a smile played across her lips. She leaned in towards Malik. Her voice dropped to conspiratory tones. "Just follow my lead, all right?" Then, before the boy could object, she took him by the hand and guided him out from the courtyard.
