Chao was doodling in the corner of her note book she had taken shelter in the bank due to the high winds that where roaring outside. Luckily it was one of the quieter branches and no one seemed to mind.

Efreet had very few marketable skills and writing, especially calligraphy writing, was not one of them. Yet, here he was seated at a table attempting to make his brush strokes look like something other than ink blobs. Furious gusts of wind kept the paper he was attempting to write folding over itself, covering the entirety of the page in black ink.
Whelp. There went a perfectly good piece of paper.
At one point, his ink jar was knocked over and he barely managed to save it from spilling all over the table he had been using. Groaning, Efreet collected all of his belonging and shoved them into the bag he'd brought along. From there, he sought shelter in the nearest building he could find.
Oh. It was the bank.
Making a face, because he remembered that horrid incident with money and fund processing, he hurried to find himself a place where he could continue to work on his terrible calligraphy. Spotting a table with only one occupant he put on his best, toothy grin, and wandered over.
"You mind?"

Chao looked up from her notebook as someone approached the table. She smiled back at the War Horseman who had approached. "Not at all!" She responded cheerfully to his inquiry. "I'm Chao, it's nice to meet you."
She wondered how long the storm outside was going to last, unfortunately her phone didn't give any information, so she returned to her doodling while still paying attention to the other horseman.

Pleased that he wasn't shooed away, Efreet slid into the seat across from her, plopping his bag in his lap as he pulled his supplies back out of his bag.
"Efreet~" He offered, head lifting to flash a grin her way again before he was shoving his arm into the bag to fish out the brush.
"Shame about the wind huh? I'm bad at this to begin with but this just makes me look worse." He plucked the ruined paper that looked more like an inkblot than any attempt at writing pretty words.

"Yeah" Chao agreed, watching out the window as a passer by got knocked off their feet by a sudden gale.
She looked curiously at the blot of ink in on his paper. She wondered if he was attempting to paint, but then he would most likely be using paint instead of ink. Caligraphy was another idea but it was just a blot. It was hard to tell what the inkblot was supposed to be. "Looks like the wind had it out for you."

Now that the paper had been shown, Efreet crumpled it up in his black hands and set it off to the side, to be discarded with later while he fished out a clean page. "I'm not very good at this stuff," he felt the need to announce, "but the wind totally makes me look like, way worse."
He followed her gaze outside, head shaking with a sigh as he watched someone get knocked on their a**.
"Are you good at it? Got any pointers?" Efreet needed helped with everything that didn't include fighting.

"Calligraphy?" She questioned "I'm pretty good at it. Hmm I'd suggest going slow? Its really easy to mess up when you are rushing and try breaking down the word or letter into parts instead of trying to do it all at one. Oh and don't let the wind steal it." She added playfully at the end.
"Oh and don't knock over the ink, it makes a horrible mess. One that not easy to get out of cloths ." It was obvious she was talking from experience on that one.

"I go slow!" He protested, even though there wasn't much of a reason to. She wasn't telling him that he was doing it wrong, she was just providing tips as he had asked.
"I just don't understand how the brush strokes work." He made an attempt, hand moving slow and mostly steady across the page. The letters of his name looked...passable, if even that.
"I just - " he tossed his hands up in an i don't know gesture.

Chao watched him carefully as he wrote out his name, looking at how his wrist moved and which strokes he seemed to have trouble with.
It wasn't a bad start, it was eligible, only a little bit shaky, some of the strokes where a bit off, but practicing them desperately should help.
"So the strokes can be broken down into 8 different ones and these strokes are combined to make the words." She pulled a pen out of her sleeve and made some marks on a blank piece of paper before handing it to him. The paper showed how each stroke looked and what it was called. The marker didn't look as nice as a brush would, but it showed how the strokes went.
"Lifting the brush after each different stroke is key, as it lets the ink breath and makes the letter look better."

His brows shot up and his mouth hung open when she told him that there were eight different ways to make a stroke. "Oh," he clamped his mouth shut and inwardly cursed the fact that he'd have to deal with more math like things.
He really hated numbers.
"Maybe I'm not cut out for this." He was ready to quit. That's what he got for attempting to be artsy.

Chao hmmed softy to her self as she thought. She hadn't thought that 8 was a very large number, but judging from his expression it might be. She supposed she didn't think about it much.
"It isn't at easy as it looks" She admitted, watching people write it made it look a lot easier than it actually was. "But most of the strokes are pretty simple if you'd like to try some." One was just an upward line that curved right as it went up and another was a 0 that was titled to the right and was think on that side but thicker on the left. A third one was like a u but thinker on the right and slightly tilted. Putting them together made the letter a. The first one was used in almost every letter.
She wasn't going to force him to keep at it if he didn't want to, it wasn't her place and she probably wasn't doing the best job at explaining it either. If only one of the Conquest Heirs where around, they probably knew to teach it.

"Nah," he drawled, shoulders shrugging as he found himself a nice new clean sheet of paper to try and mimic some of the strokes she was showing him. They seemed better. Still bad, but decent. Kinda. (Not really.)
"Never thought it was a piece o' cake." Efreet never looked at art and thought that's easy af. "Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm more than a good war dog."
Efreet laughed, clearly taking pride in the fact that combat was his thing even if stuff like this wasn't. "Suppose it's the thought that counts huh?"

She watched as he followed what she had shown him and his attempts where getting better.
She frowned slightly at his comment. But at least he was proud of his combat ability. "I'm sure you are, picking up a new skill is hard like getting used to a new type of weapon." She was great with a bow, not so much with the long spears, she still had to work on balancing the weapon. It just felt so clunky compared to the bow.
"Yes, and the fact that you tried!" She said encouragingly. "Hey how about once we are done with the lesson we go hit up a hunter base?" She hoped the idea would cheer him up. She hoped she had read his comment right in that he liked combat. If not this was going to get really really awkward.

"Weapons feel like child's play compared to this." Though his coordination with ranged weapons was lacking compared to hand-held ones like daggers and swords. Bows were fun sometimes though, even if he needed to work on his aim...
"Look at you, bein' all encouraging." Efreet beamed at his new friend, deciding that he was quiet glad he crashed her table even if he was less than pleased about the fact that the wind had ruined some of his really hard work.
Ah well, it wasn't like he was good at it anyway.
"Ya!" He chirped, incredibly enthusiastic about the idea of dropping in on a base. A good fight did wonders for his soul. "You wanna just wrap up now?" He knew he'd only recently sat down but boy was he eager and raring to go.

Chao smiled as her new friend seemed to cheer up a little bit. Glad she was able to help him feel a bit better, as well as teach him a little bit of calligraphy.
She grinned at how excited he got when she mentioned taking on the hunters. Looks like it was a good idea after all. "Sure we can wrap up now if you'd like."
"Oh you can keep that paper I made if you decided to practice more later." She said motioning towards the paper that showed how to do the strokes on it.
