[ TASK ] Crane would like to see your skills. In order to do that, he requires you to perform a four hour shift as a bank teller in one of the quieter branches of the building.
[ MECHANICS ] Please roll 1d6 to see how well you do at Bank of X this fine day. You may only try this once. 1 - You do relatively well, but you don't do anything special. Crane seems to think that you may have potential, but he seems disappointed that you didn't take the initiative when you should have. ( fail )
2 - You do so well that Crane is almost startled by how adept you are, which rarely happens. He gives you a rare grin of satisfaction, as well as a clap on the back that indicates just how well pleased he is with your work. Maybe you have a future calling here at Bank of X... ( pass )
3 - Your work suffers because you're too nervous to perform correctly, mostly due to the fact that Crane is standing over you, observing silently. He doesn't come straight out and say that you're terrible, but...you're pretty terrible. ( fail )
4 - There are a few mishaps, including one where you mistake the vice president of the company for a janitor. Whoops...well, maybe he should have dressed better. Still, surprisingly, Crane seems amused by this, rather than put off. Maybe you didn't do so terribly after all... ( pass )
5 - You are very quick and thorough. Maybe not amazingly talented, but you do good work and Crane seems to think that you could do more with your time if you put your head to it. Needless to say, he's very satisfied with your work. ( pass )
6 - You mistakenly try and work at the loan counter instead of the regular counters. Crane is deeply disappointed at your complete lack of ability. ( fail )

Mukei was not so sure about this. Being a bank teller meant talking to people and the boy was very unsure if he wanted to even do that. But, his tummy grumbled, his arms had goosebumps from a chill, and he needed the currency. The boy stood there at the teller booth, frowning. Ilker was with him, one booth over and Mukei tried to made his frown bore into the other's back.
"I mean....." Mukei started, as if picking the conversation up at some point in his head, "We could have just stayed in our roooooooms." The boy had a way of talking where he never actually stopped making the noise of the last letter of whatever he said. It would go quieter, and quieter, until you could no longer hear the rest of the word, but no one could really tell if Mukei had even stopped talking. The last word the boy spoke, rooms, seemed to echo in his head as it kept getting quieter and quieter. "I liked my roooooooom."
The sound of the "m" that was bound to come eventually was overwhelmed as another horseman came up, inquiring to their bank balance. Mukei did what he could. "Yeah, i mean, i think there is money in there...." He responded when asked what the horseman's bank balance was. He didn't want to know the number, he didn't want to tell the customer the number, and he really didnt want to say the number out loud. As the customer kept asking, Mukei sucked in a breath and spat it out. "Its 47, 47 dollars." The boy said, then rubbed his arm in shame. 4 was the number of death, and 7 was one more than 6, an evil number. He hated that he had to speak those numbers out loud.

Ilker was good at telling people no. He was also good at not caring if they felt bad, as well as making arrangements and setting things up. He could close a deal in the blink of an eye, and weasel out whatever money he wanted from the other person. But besides that... Well. He was not very good at numbers. He was, also, definitely not good at counting. He still used his fingers when counting up or down, and needed a good, solid minute or two to get any work done.
And frankly, it was boring.
He didn't like working the counter. It was a complete waste of his abilities, especially when they needed him to actually count something. It wasn't interesting or entertaining, and there was nothing new to be found. His curiosity could not be sated through the boring monotone of the life of a Loan Shark. It was of no surprise to Ilker that Crane was disappointed in him. It'd be alright. Tomorrow was a new day, a new attempt. He guessed Loan Sharks weren't as cool as they sounded. But never mind! He was still better than Mukei. Speaking of which, how was the failing weakling?
He glanced over, only to see him actually handling his job correctly and counting things right. Ilker's eyes widened and he clicked his tongue in irritation. This wouldn't do. It wasn't fair. He was better than Mukei, why was this happening? "Ellaren, please tell me all of this is a joke. I don't believe it." He murmured, looking directly at Mukei. It was obvious what he was implying.

Character's arcana: Empress BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER Ilker is a 6'3 man with dark skin peppered with vitiligo on his face, chest, shoulders, and knees. He has thick black hair reaching to his hip, pulled back into a half braid left cascading over his shoulder. He wears snakebites and eyebrows piercings, and has a weird fondness for water.

Ellaren did not so much as glance in Ilker's direction until the customer she had been speaking to finished gathering up their money and turned to leave. Even then, she waited another moment to be sure no one else had been waiting to speak with her after them. It was only after she found no one in line that she turned to consider the Death horseman, golden eyes analyzing his expression before she leaned to see what about Mukei's work had him so sure that someone somewhere was joking. She couldn't help the twitch of a smile at the odd way the younger horseman spoke, but his customers didn't seem displeased as they left. Confused, perhaps, but not displeased.
"Not the most efficient work, but it seems to be effective." Her eyes slide back to Ilker. Her own work had been exemplary thus far, much more efficient than anyone seemed to have expected for some reason, but it was only busy work as far as she could tell and there was no real triumph in the achievement. There was no point to a member of a hive who would not do the task expected of them, and she always did her part. From what she had heard though, perhaps he had had some trouble with things earlier that had thrown him off his own work. Ahh, was that the issue? That the boy had accomplished what he hadn't?
"I fail to see the joke. Perhaps I missed the punchline." Her raised eyebrow was a clear order to elaborate.
