Unlocking the door to his rented room, the last thing Leukos would have expected was an angry maelstrom of rainbow colors thrashing about on the wooden floorboards as two Alols skirmished and hissed at each other. But that is what he found, dropping his things beside the door to rush inside, fumbling to get his whip unwound from its position at his hip. He got enough out to half-heartedly snap the floor near the invader’s red foot, causing the reptile to turn its attention away from the one it was fighting, scuttling up along the wall. He lashed out at it again, intending to just strike the wall next to the animal.
But being rushed and flustered, he mistakenly struck the poor thing, leaving a sharp red gash along its flank. Which the reptile did not take too kindly to, jumping off its perch to lunge at Leukos, landing on his chest in an angry flurry of prismatic colors while it bit at his face. Tripping over his own Alol that scurried behind him, the pair went tumbling down onto his bed, Leukos’ swearing matching the creature’s angry chirping while he tried to pry it off of him.
Finally getting his arm under it, he was able to lift and toss his attacker off onto the floor. Having had enough of the scuffle, the invader scuttled up the wall and out the open window, its red tail flicking irritated over the sill as it disappeared from sight.
Face bloody and chest heaving with adrenaline, Leukos sat on the bed, assessing the damage to the room. When suddenly he felt a tap on the heel of his boot, looking between his legs under the bed. Mouth open and breathing heavily, his own scaly partner was recuperating in its hiding spot, looking just as beat up as Leukos. The twinge to his heart was just one more pain to add to the others, getting off to lie down on the floor facing his familiar. “Hey Kyro. This is entirely my fault, isn’t it Buddy? We’ve only just begun our adventure together, and already you’re hurt…”
He glanced over at the floorboards, a square patch lit golden yellow from the sunlight pouring through the open hole in the wall of the window. “I thought leaving the window open for you while I was out would be nice, let in all that lovely warm sunshine…but that’s just asking for territorial disputes, isn’t it?” He reached out tentatively towards Kyro, taking hold of him when it did not protest to gingerly pull him out, holding the injured reptile gently in his lap as he stroked it. “I’m so sorry. If I don’t take you with me, I’ll close the shutters and just leave the slats open, okay? I don’t want you to ever have to go through this again. I promise.”
