There was something wrong with the piece he'd been working on. He couldn't see what it was exactly and it was frustrating him. It wasn't immediately visible, most Death Horsemen didn't often show emotions. Terr himself fit this to a T. But there was a tightness to the line of his mouth that isn't normally there unless angry over something. He set the piece down and pinched the bridge of his nose. At least he would have uninterrupted peace to figure things out, right?

"It looks like it's backwards." Vania couldn't help herself -- she'd watched from afar, being very blunt in her words, and not even looking sorry for speaking them.

She looked around for a moment, finally looking back to him upon realizing that he might be staring at her.

Her shoulders puffed up a little bit, feathers ruffling in mock-defense.

"... I'm Vania," She started, blinking slowly. "I just woke up... so I decided to explore."

Terr did not let out a yelp of surprise when there was a voice behind him. He might have, however, done a full-body shudder as a response to being startled. Slowly, wordlessly, he turned towards the doorway. Had he forgotten to close the door to his workshop again? That might have been it. As... passionate as he found most War Horsemen to be, they at least knew and understood about territory. So an open door served might have served as an invitation, which meant his sudden lack of privacy was all his fault. Of course.

When it became apparent that this wasn't going to be a drive-by critique, "Terr," he introduced, voice even despite some mild apprehension of having a War Horseman in his workshop.

Speaking of work, he reached back for the piece and he held it out to her. "Where?"

Vania watched through keen eyes, reaching out to tap the side of the tool curiously, where it was bent.

"Shouldn't this be bent the other way?" It just looked... odd. Not that she knew what it was supposed to look like, but the War Horseman at least knew that it wasn't supposed to look like that.

Vania shifted from one foot to the other.

"... we could look outside for inspiration, if you'd like. It's rather..." She glanced up, eyeing the workshop again with a disinterested expression, making a motion with her hand.

"... bland."

Blue eyes stared at the spot Vania indicated for several long moments, scrutinizing and inspecting for any validity to her claim. He wasn't expecting her to understand what he was trying to achieve. To be fair, he himself wasn't sure what the material wanted him to achieve. It wasn't speaking to him the way it normally did. Something was off about the whole piece and the FEAR he'd already begun imbuing into it could still be salvaged.

But the War Horseman didn't need to know that.

"No," he said simply. "It is still far too early in the process to bend it close."

When he raised his eyes to meet hers, it was at her insult. The deep bags of his eyes against his pale skin, Terr looked more exhausted than anything. But there was a sharpness in his stare that could be missed as he responded, still in utter monotone "And you would be the expert in not-bland?"

Pursing her lips, Vania shifted from one foot to the other. "... it's not that exciting. Where's your massive fire to watch? Aren't you supposed to constantly stoke the flames and feed it to keep it happy?"

Here, there was just a bent piece of metal that Vania was not impressed with.

"What is this even supposed to be? A club? It just looks... backwards."

Like the shop, she mentally added to herself, but didn't comment it aloud.

Honestly, the only reason she'd wandered in from the open door was because she wanted some company. And now, she felt from his sharp stare, she was mucking it up in the only way a War Horseman knew how.

And here was a stark reminder to Terr why he should always close and lock the damn door to his workshop. He maintained eye contact, though he was sorely tempted to give a long, deep sigh of disappointment.

"The lava is treated as ambiance nowadays." He began. "And I am capable of forging weapons, yes. But I specialize in jewelry. How does this," He said, still holding up the object that was quickly making itself clear it was an abject failure. "Look like a club? Is it the length? The silhouette? The size?" Was he being sarcastic or was he being earnest in his question? The even drone of his voice was not helping to make it clear.

Kanth
tbqh I don't know if he is being serious or sarcastic myself XDDD Vania's free to take offense and idk they can go outside to "settle" things?

"... all of it?" Vania offered helpfully with a shrug. "I think you should just start over. There's really... no salvaging this one. I'd be surprised if anyone even bought it."

Sometimes blunt was too blunt.

"Not even the fish would be interested in a bauble like that."

Huni Pi
oh my god XDDD vania's hopeless!

And this time, Terr closed his eyes and gave into the desire of releasing a long, deep sigh of complete disappointment."You are right." He said, walking towards a large closet of sorts. "I ought to set it aside with the other failures. Perhaps I can make use of it in the future for its materials."

The closet was a strange piece of storage, appearing impossibly bigger on the inside than what the outside suggested. But distortion was something the Death Clan dealt with and imbuing objects with FEAR was their specialty. Someone must have made this ornate piece exactly for that purpose and Terr was just fortunate enough to have inherited it.

He locked the closet, checked that it was locked, before slowly walking back to stand in front of the War Horseman. "Apart from giving unsolicited opinions," Terr said in a dead-pan, "Do you have anything else you wish to do here?"

Unable to help but peer over his shoulder, Vania blinked as he locked it, checked that it was locked, and took a step back when he turned, realizing that she had in fact probably been crowding him.

Whoops.

Letting out a snort and rubbing her arm, she looked to the side and shifted her weight in her hips.

"... well, honestly, I just... was looking for..." She gritted her teeth, finding it hard to say. It was embarrassing, even more so when she realized that he probably had it together way more than she had.

"... I can't remember much. I was hoping... you had."

For all intents and purposes, Terr's expression was blank. He gave no outward indication of surprise, disbelief, flattery, mockery, sympathy, or anything in between. He simply stared at the War Horsewoman while he kept his hands in front of him in what can be considered a relaxed posed.

On the inside, however, Terr had his head thrown back from cackling but not at the War Horseman. Mostly he was just laughing in disbelief that anyone outside of the few individuals whom he deemed friends would come to him of all horsemen for answers or sympathy or solutions.

He maintained a professional demeanor, not exactly welcoming but not judgmental either. "I am afraid I have very little to offer you in terms of assistance. I do not recall knowing your name or having imbued a piece of jewelry for your usage. Perhaps our paths had crossed during the lost day and that possibility has brought you to my workshop."

It sounded like it could have happened. Although Terr had a terrible feeling that he was often wrong about things that he believed were true or made sense, even if his memories gave him no reason to feel that way.

"Or you might simply be in the habit of giving unsolicited opinions to crafters about their works in progress," he stared at her pointedly, the monotone of his voice failing to convey the level of irritation he felt. "That is something that shouldn't be written off unless you remember yourself to act otherwise and I am simply an anomaly."

Vania's cheeks colored in embarrassment, and she ducked her head down as she clasped her hands together.

"... my apologies."

It took a lot of strength to apologize, and she found herself mortified at the mere prospect of it... but it was her who had stepped out of bounds in this particular instance, relying on insults and loose words instead of querying about the object that he had been making.

"I... I did not mean offense. Truly."

Vania was beside herself, cheeks utterly red as she stared at the floor.

Terr continued to stare and say nothing to Vania but after what felt like eons, he said simply "Apology accepted." And began to make his way out of the workshop. At the threshold, he glanced over his shoulder, "Perhaps I should look to my surroundings for ideas. Would you care to join me? The walk might jog your memory while it jogs my inspiration."

Nodding, Vania gladly took to his side, folding her wings behind her in a respectful manner as she stared at the surroundings.

It seemed like a rather nice day, but Vania herself preferred some kind of excitement, and she'd been itching for a fight.

Just... for a more physical one. Not an altercation like she'd just had with Terr. Those were... more complicated. Less fun.

"... what's your favorite color?" She found herself asking aloud, glancing to him from the side, still glancing out at the scenery.

Terr was slowly beginning to release his frustrations as they walked and had almost settled back to his default calm. But then Vania had to try to make small talk and the Death Horseman couldn't help but let out a deep sigh through his nose.

"I'm not overly fond of small talk," he said. "If you feel you would much rather engage another horseman in conversation, I won't stop you."
