Sophie exited the rehab facility, didn't dawdle in the lobby and step right onto the street. The crystal was looming above, bright and angry like a burn.
She ran her fingers over her head, unfastening the clip that held her braid in a knot - it fell to her lower back and she stretched, breathing in the chemical free -
or rather rehab-smell free - street air.

She turned to Aeseir as the girl arrived. "Well, I don't really know where to go from here," she said with a shrug. She didn't really have a plan except wanting to get out of rehab. "I guess we could wander a bit - see if we can find any answers along the way. Maybe something will trigger memories."

Speaking of which, she seemed to only have the basics. Her name was Sophie, she was a Death Clansman and worked as a Guardian. Everything else was.. fractured or blurry - like she had opened her eyes under water. Maybe whatever happened yesterday had done more damage than they thought.

"Do you remember what you were doing? Before yesterday, I mean."

[THE TICK ON YOUR SIDE]

Aeseir followed at a distance, too distracted by the sights and sounds to keep up. The elevators, the lobby—they were supposed to be familiar... weren't they? She pulled her collar higher and quelled a shudder, jogging to catch up with Sophie outside.

The girl had come off so self-assured and no-nonsense that she assumed Sophie knew just where she was going; the revelation that she did not stopped Aeseir short. She laughed.

"Neither do I!" She practically beamed. "That sounds as good a plan as any. Wow, you're really good at this, huh?"

She paused when questioned about her memory, one finger tapping her lip as her eyes lidded thoughtfully. "Hmm." Her brow furrowed. "Hmmmmm." Her finger stopped moving. "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."

With a blink, she looked back at Sophie. "I got nothing. Hey! Is that a weapon store?" She ran off without waiting for a reply.

"Aeseir, wait!" Sophie ran after her - and she did, indeed have to run, much to her dismay. The weapon shop was small and quaint, run by one of her fellow clansman, of course. While the trade was traditionally jewel crafting there were a select few who preferred to specialise in weapons and armor and their creations were no less beautiful.

"Do you even have any money?" Sophie tried to sound like she wasn't out of breath but it wasn't really working. "I guess there's no harm in taking a look..." She gestured. "After you."

[THE MOON IN YOUR EYE]

"Of course I do," Aeseir countered, hands going first in one pocket, then the other. She coughed lightly and proceeded to inspect the rest of the folds on her person, her movements growing more frantic with each check. When her hand pulled free from the last pocket, empty, she affected a look of nonchalance, and when she spoke her voice was grave. "At least I remembered I should be filthy rich." She made no mention of the fact that their memory loss only spanned the one day.

Her chagrin was forgotten as soon as she stepped foot inside the store with eyes wide and mouth gaping, and she fell into the familiar motions of appraisal. Though some weapons were displayed in locked cases, many more were out in the open, free for her to test the weight and balance and cut. Their only fault lay in the fact that they were immaculate. She preferred the spoils of battle: the worn hilts and chipped blades that told stories of the owners they once possessed, and the combat they'd been privy to. She only kept the weapons that were hard won, and she could remember each victory like they were yesterday. Except they weren't.

"You'd think," she said softly, without preamble, "that so many fractured memories would cause a stronger reaction than this." Their clans weren't up in arms, the care they received was practically aloof, and not even the stores had been closed. She didn't expect others to grow riled at the slightest offense, and neither was she asking to be coddled. It was only that she remembered another time, another awakening, when they'd returned and found the world to have moved on without them, and she could not help but feel a sense of déjà vu.

"You're right, of course; the best we can do is try to remember. It's just... there must be something more we could—ah!" A blade had shattered in her hand. She unwound her fingers, and a few more shards could be heard clinking to the floor. "D-do you know how much that cost?"

Sophie was lost the moment they entered the store, the intricate designs and skill that went into making these weapons gave her goosebumps.
She ran her fingers carefully along blades - perfect sharpness. She balanced them - perfect weight. Everything was perfection and she was practically drooling.

Aeseir's voice shattered her fantasies and she raised a brow. "I certainly would've expected a stronger reaction from War, at the very least." It was strange, indeed. Everyone seemed to be carrying on as if it hadn't happened -
as if the crystal in the sky wasn't glowing a bright, angry red.

Another shattering of thoughts though this time actual shattering. Sophie's eyes widened as the pieces glinted in the light of the store. It was expensive, no doubt. More money than either of them had.

"I think it's time to check out another store.."

The shopkeep hadn't come out to inspect the damage just yet so maybe they could get lucky. She shuffled around in her pockets and produced a few coins -
pocket change, literally - and placed them on the counter. It wasn't close to the price but it was better than nothing, she supposed.

[THE CRIMINAL YOU HAVE THROWN YOUR LOT IN WITH]

Aeseir had been in her fair share of battles, and she knew when a situation called for a tactical retreat. She grabbed Sophie's hand and ran.
