My family is moving, and everything's being packed - including the books! I think, "oh, let me go get that book off the shelf," only to realize that it's in a box waiting to be hauled to another state. We packed most of the books because my mom says we have more than look good on an entertainment center. One entire wall is was filled with our shared books, but now some of the shelves are just holding things like candles or other little decorative things.
Has anyone else gone through this?

I know how you feel. I had so many books in my room and around the house that, one day, I came home to find this big box in the corner of my room. It had the oldest of my books in it. At first I was very opposed to the idea of boxing books, but I realize now that it's practical.
Of course, I wouldn't let my books live in a box. I took them all out and put them in piles until I can get a big zubbermaid container or a chest, or something that will keep them protected.

Yeah, I know how that is. Except, I was dealing with insulation along with the books in crates. I still find little pink flakes of insulation in a few of my books. The hurricanes pretty much ruined my room, but everything else was fine. Luckily, my books didn't get wet, but they did end up in about four huge boxes for about 6 months until I got my room fixed up and painted and got shelves back in there. I had to put up with my books in boxes, because everything else I owned was in boxes as well. I was so happy once I was able to re-fill my bookshelves and move back into my room. ^_^

It's been... about fifteen years since I last had to move. You can imagine the hassle of trying to pack all my books now. I can't really remember how I felt before about the whole ordeal, but I spent much of my time with my Grandma playing cards so it was a distraction from not being able to enjoy my things.
I hope the move goes on without a sitch, Fairgrass. ^_^ Soon your beloveds will be out of their boxes and back within your reach.

Thank you. heart
My children's books are in tupperware things now, too. My mom's keeping all of my little kid books, and she packed them away in such a way so they wouldn't be hurt by silverfish or dusty attics. I keep insisting, though, that none of the books I've hidden away in my room will go anywhere until the week before I move.

Well, as long as you don't resort to stripping for books, I think you'll be fine! wink

I once had a week without any library books out. It felt very, very strange.

Tiamatt I once had a week without any library books out. It felt very, very strange. I'm trying to remember such a time. Especially since attending college, I've always had books out it seems...

When I was little and just finished learning to read, probably around 4 1/2 - 5, we were moving. My parents started packing up all my things but I wouldn't let them pack up my Dr. Seuss books. I started crying. Eventually my mother explained what was going on and let me choose three books to ride along with me.

I moved into my apartment three years ago, and due to space half of my books never made it out of boxes. Most of the boxes are stacked against the wall in the shed. Most of us in this guild probably fall under the 'showoff' reader category, and we love to display our collections to the world. With my books scattered throughout the house in odd places, it definitely makes me sad. The bookshelf has all of our movies and games, and my desk is full of books, and the same goes for my bedroom - they are everywhere! But still, I feel like I have lost the better part of my collection. ;___;

I know how you feel. Most of my books are stored in my parents loft. When I moved in with my fiance most of my books couldn't move with me (It's a tiny little flat, and theres just no room for them). I was able to take two boxes with me (but I recently managed to find space for another box), I'm still trying to find space for another one. Most of the books I do have here with me are in boxes still due to minimal wall and shelf space. crying I miss my five bookcases crying

Thankfully, when my mother visits, she'll be hauling down quite a few to fill in the few gaps remaining.
