Physical Description: Ellain is not pretty in the traditional sense. She is fairly short at barely 5'0", but she is far from delicate. Her arms are too large for the rest of her frame and she is stocky and flat chested, more like a young man than a woman. Her nose is a little too large and her mouth a little too wide, but her soft, brown eyes illuminate her face and distract from her faults. Her skin is naturally pale but has been tinged with bronze with the sunlight and freckles dot the bridge of her nose. She tends to keep her long hair braided in two long braids that hang to the midpoint of her back. It is a coppery brown, having been bleached by the sunlight as well. When it is not styled, it flows in messy waves.
Personality: Fancy clothes and fine jewels could never appeal to Ellain the same way as a hard day's work. She is a humble woman who has no need for excessive things, so she is likely to pass if she is offered a fine gift or an invitation to a great feast. A kind gesture, on the other hand, is a quick way to endear oneself to her. She is drawn to people who she can relate to, such as others who had grown up poor, but she will try to get along with anyone who makes the effort to befriend her. She believes everyone has good in them and should be given a chance, no matter how rough they seem. However, she is quite timid and it can take time for people to really get to know her. If someone wants an immediate friendship, they will likely intimidate her and she will withdraw until they lose interest. Her gentle and amiable nature comes out the strongest when she is given patience.
The main fault in people that Ellain does not tolerate is laziness. She believes that everyone needs to contribute in one way or another, to the best of their abilities, in order to make life work. If she is given a task, it will certainly be done as soon as Ellain is able. In effect, she is prone to working herself too hard and forgetting to take care of her own needs. Sometimes, she gets to the point of judging other people for any kind of idleness. Others often need to remind Ellain to take breaks or else she will lose herself. Usually, encouraging her to take a walk outdoors will remind her that she wasn't always so diligent and breaks are important for the body and mind. However, she will get agitated and fidgety in she isn't given something specific to do for too long. Balancing work and relaxation time is not Ellain's strength.
Ellain tries to pay close attention to those around her so that she can be able to provide things for them as needed. It is an old habit from childhood that she continues to do, so if someone so much as coughs, she will show up with water for them. She hardly stops to think before she does it, so her actions may not always be appreciated. Sometimes she can be oversensitive, too. If she thinks someone glanced at her with a frown, she will dwell on it, thinking it was directed at something she was doing. Her assumptions can lead to some awkward misunderstandings. Still, she will try her best to make up for any offense she may accidentally make.

History: Ellain was born to a drudge mother and an unknown father within Nabol Hold. Her mother didn't show her much warmth as a child, but many of her mother's acquaintances took a liking to her and offered what little they could to help care for her. In effect, Ellain quickly learned to work hard and provide what she could to help in return. It wasn't uncommon to see Ellain toddling along with tiny arms full of clothes, trying to assist someone with the wash.
As she grew, her responsible but helpful nature wavered a little as she discovered the outdoors. She adored spending time just lying in the grass or observing the hold's herdbeasts just to feel the sun against her skin. She would occasionally shirk work to go wandering the hold grounds, but a quick slap from her mother would ensure that she remembered her place.
Not much changed in her life until shortly after her 16th turn. With the return of Thread, her journeys outside had become non-existent. She also had become a kitchen drudge, and even though she enjoyed the hard work and the satisfaction it gave her, she missed her time in the sunlight. Her overall demeanor had taken on a dark cast and her childhood caretakers had begun to worry about her mindset. Despite the amount of work to be done, they urged Ellain to leave the kitchen. She wandered aimlessly until she found herself outside in an evening sunset.
Suddenly, Ellain was face to face with a blue dragon. The hold happened to be undergoing a Search that day, and the dragon had found her just as the beast and his rider were about to leave. It was her first experience with a dragon and the whole thing still seems like a dream to her, even though she has been living at the weyr for almost a turn. She tends to spend her time in the kitchen or out with the herdbeasts, where she feels comfortable.
Other: Ellain's reading and writing skills are poor, but she is willing to learn.
