She just needed some alone time. Yes, that was it. She needed to just get some time away from her family. 'But why?' The thought train ran through Miranda's head as she soared. The wind felt so, so good through her feathered wings and in her mane. She wanted to enjoy the feeling and focus only on that feeling, but her brain would not stop. It was always on, and it seemed like it was in overdrive since she decided to leave the area she and her sisters called home earlier that afternoon.
Her mind kept playing it over and over, why she needed to get away. Was it because Anastasia is terrible conversation? Always calm and happy and never phased? That would be just petty. Was it because Theodora is too much of an argument? Always aggressive and never wrong? That would be just immature.
The internal bickering was becoming tiring. With that realization, her wings felt a bit heavier, and she knew it was time to land for a rest, even if she was far from actually being tired.
She glanced down at the world passing below her. Trees, trees, and more trees. It would be difficult to land. Light eyes surveyed the tree tops for a dip in the canopy, where she knew she could land comfortably. She wasn't familiar with these woods. Her family stayed closer to the mountain, where it was nice and open. Where it was safe and familiar. Where nothing new or exciting happened.
Miranda aimed for the dip in the treeline, and quietly landed. She tucked her wings aside, which felt heavy from use. It was much darker here, but not as dark as she had anticipated woods to be. Sunlight poked through the leaves of the tall trees above, which helped illuminate her surroundings. The strange surroundings intrigued Miranda. This wasn't like home at all, with it's wide open space. Here things were hidden in the shadows of the tall trees. It was unnerving, but exciting for the young mare. What could be hidden in the shadows? What could she find?

The weather had been exceptionally nice as of late and the young stallion and his feathered companion walked quietly through the woods. Vlad shifted his wings as he remained perched atop Folly's horn, his beady eyes dancing around as he took in his surroundings. "Where are we off to today?" The bird asked him curiously, since they were in a different part of the herds territory than normal. "Nowhere in particular, I just thought we could walk and enjoy the scenery." Despite the fact he had grown up here he had never grown sick of the woods and the wonders they had to offer. There was always something new to see and explore, even if it was an area you had already been in. The raven shrugged his shoulders as if to say okay and went back to just looking. Folly's glowing gaze fell upon a figure in the shadows not too far ahead, flicking his tail behind him he approached cautiously, just in case it was someone hostile. Upon growing closer he realized it was a mare and one he wasn't familiar with. This made him smile and his demeanor shifted from cautious to inviting. Giving his head a bow he greeted her, "Hello, I'm Fjolnir and this is Vladislav," he rose up from his little bow, "what brings you this way if you don't mind my asking?"

Footsteps pulled Miranda from her admiring of the scenery. Ears perked forward, she looked in the direction of the stallion. At first, not making him out well, she took a few cautionary steps back. The excitement of seeing what was in the shadows for a moment became pure nerves, as stories of horned, evil Kalona from her childhood reared an ugly head. She was positive she could outfly anyone, but that was from her limited experience with other flyers - her younger brother Kieran was the only other Wind she knew, and she had not seen him much since "flying the nest".
However, out of the shadows came... not something so menacing? And he bowed, how polite? Miranda stood up straighter and took a step forward, unsure of how to progress. "H-Hi," she stammered, clearing her throat, looking from the stallion to the raven. What a curious bird! And what en even curiouser stallion before her. The horns, the scales, and the tail were definitely not typical of the soquili back home. She bent a knee in a hesitant bow, "I'm Miranda."
What was she doing out this way? She rose up and glanced around. "Well... I was just out flying..." she started, and the answer just rolled off her tongue, "Just you know, escaping normality and routine." She laughed slightly, shaking her head. "Honestly I just sort of ended up here after a flight, just trying to clear my head, that's all."
She shuffled her tired wings, looking back at Fjolnir and Vlad, "I'm guessing you're familiar to these parts?"

He was quite pleased with her response back and he smiled as she cautiously said hello and introduced herself. Miranda, that was such a lovely name. "It's a pleasure to meet you Miranda." His voice was deep yet soft in a way and he moved a little closer, just to see her better. Vlad took the time to look her over curiously before flying to a nearby branch so he could overlook what was going on. Fluffing up his feathers he preened himself for a moment, he wasn't going to interrupt. Flying, something he would never know the joys of. At least Vlad could fly and other members of the herd, just not all of them and especially not him. He often wondered what it would be like to feel the wind against his body and nothing else, but at the same time being a Kirin had it's own perks. "I know what that's like, it's actually why we came on a walk this way ourselves." He laughed slightly at how similar their reasons were for being out. "I am, this is my Herds lands." Giving a look around as if to be like all of this is home he turned his gaze back to her. "Would you care to rest a while? I know a nice spot with a brook and soft fields to lay in near here." He offered to her.

His voice pulled Miranda to drop her guard. It was deep, and soft, and in a way comforting. The thoughts of horned evil Soquili melted away from her thoughts. She smiled warmly at the stallion, "Oh, the pleasure is mine, truly. It's nice to speak with someone that isn't related to me."
Her family's home had many visitors of the same bloodline. Her great grandmother, Cosette, was very big on keeping the family together. Her grandmother Cicely lived close by, and her mother Noelle as well. She an her sisters herded together just a half days walk from their mother's. They were a close family, but it was just family. Not many others willingly came by the cool base of the mountains.
Her ears perked at his reason. Oh! How coincidental that their reasons were almost the same. At the mention of rest, Miranda became aware of the dull pain that came with overusage of her wings. They felt heavy and she knew that if she was going to fly home, she needed to rest. She looked at Fjolnir thoughtfully, and nodded. "Rest sounds lovely. I honestly don't know how long I was flying for..." She trailed off. My, had she lost time.
"That spot sounds ideal. Lead the way." She smiled and took a step towards the stallion with the intention of walking alongside him as opposed to trailing behind.
"So your herd? Like your family?"

He gave a nod of his head and turned to lead the way for them. "So you live with only your family?" He asked her curiously since he lived with family as well though he also had other herd members to accompany him. He wasn't sure if he'd like that or find it a little boring since everyone would be related. Though he supposed it could have it's advantage in some ways. At least she was close with her family, that was important to him. "What is it like to fly?" He glanced over towards her as the two of them traveled along slowly, the spot wasn't too far ahead now and he gave a smile. "Yes on both accounts. My family lives within the herd that owns these lands." He told her as they moved along. The sound of the brook hit his ears and it was a relaxing sound, much like her voice was. Flicking his tail behind him he stepped through some of the bushes and moved them out of the way for her to pass. "Ladies first." He motioned for her to move through.

The question struck her as odd. Well, who else would it be? Maybe others if her sisters had mates, but they did not. Maybe if they had adopted siblings or foals? But once again, they did not. "Well... yes, just my family. My sisters and my parents live on the same lands, and my grandmother and great grandmother are all within a day's run," she answered. Her family was close. She didn't want to mention exactly why they all lived so close, but it was mainly for protection and comfort. "My grandma," she started, shyly glancing his way, "She has a limp leg. So my parents visit her often. She can't really come to us, so it helps being so close."
But it really was just family.... and at the root of it, that was why she wanted to get away, to see what else was out there.
At the mention of flying, her face lit up. She passed through the bushes, nodding a thanks before turning around and walking the best she could backwards so she could speak fondly of flight. "Flying is.... It's amazing. The world is literally below your feet, and the way the air feels rushing against your skin... It's exhilarating!" She laughed, her eyes bright with her love of the gift her wings gave her. "It feels like you can get away, at any moment. A real escape." She flexed her wings momentarily to show off, before a wave of guilt rushed over her. Her sisters did not bare wings, as neither of her parents did. She was always careful to not discuss it in front of them, and here in front of her non-winged acquaintance, she felt rude. She tucked her wings tightly to her sides, and turned around to walk in tandem with him.
"Tell me about this herd. So it's not just your family. How does that work?"

He thought it pretty awesome that all of her family was so close together or within easy travel. He had no idea of his father or his fathers parents, it made him envious in a way though he didn't show it. "That sounds really wonderful." He commented and softened his expression at the mention of her grandmother and her limp leg, "That is very nice of your family to go and visit her often." "It's just my mother, sister and I." He did have another sister and their father but he didn't think he'd ever meet them, should be bring them up? Mother never really talked about them but he knew of them. "I do have another sister she is with my father though. I've never met either of them." He figured it wouldn't hurt to tell her that. As her face lit up at the mention of flying he couldn't help but feel a sense of joy flow through him, it was simply magical watching her reaction like that, to love something in that way. "I love the way you make it sound, I'm so pleased you are able to enjoy something like that and the fact that you love it so makes me happy." He wasn't sure why he told her it made him happy but he was pleased she enjoyed it so much. When she asked for him to tell her more he wondered how to put it. "Well.. The herd was established by a small group and other's continued to join it. It's like a large blended family except not everyone is in a relationship with one another." He wasn't sure if that made sense. He shook his head a little.. "It's like a giant group of different families living together." Maybe that sounded better?
