RP Response: She woke up alone. That...felt strange. She was never alone, was she? Everything sounded hollow without the sound of...sound of what? Standing, she shook herself and fluttered her wings to rid the feathers of the leaves she had been laying in. A lick of pain jolted through her left wing and she hissed, tugging it back in tight to her flank. How had she even gotten here? Something landed on her flank. Without looking to see what it was, she flicked her tail to get rid of it. She knew her name, or what ponies called her anyway. Ani. Anisoptera. Knew she was an alicorn. Another tickle on her flank. Huffing, she flicked her tail at it again.
Her head ached, but she wasn't sure why. Maybe if she looked around, took stock of her surroundings. She could see she was in the middle of a glen, with a good sized pond nearby. She knew, somehow, that the water in that pool was pure and when she bent to take a drink the cold liquid cooled her parched throat. "Much better," she murmured to herself. Skimming along the surface of the water were pretty little bugs with iridescent wings...
Ani was tiny. Barely out of her basket, but she wanted to explore. Shimmery things fluttered around her face and she wanted to follow them! Slipping from the gaze of her parents Ani followed her glittering guides, chasing them and jumping after them. She giggled happily....until she fell straight into the pool they'd been leading her to. Needless to say, the young alicorn was not pleased with the creatures she had thought were friends. She climbed out of the water, but the spring breeze still held a chill and she shivered. Tiny legs landed on her flank, first one and then dozens. By the time they were finished, Ani was covered in shimmering dragonflies. But she was warm. Maybe they were friendly after all...
Dragonflies. That's what she had forgotten. She felt the now familiar tingle of tiny legs landing on her flank and she smiled, turning to see a dragonfly with iridescent blue wings making itself at home. When she didn't immediately flick her tail at them, more landed until her back was covered with them. "Hello my friends....how could I have possibly forgotten you~?" Ah, yes... It was ridiculously simple. Embarrassing, really. She had somehow botched her trajectory on the flight in and whacked her wing on a tree limb. Then, on the trip down, she hit her head on a rock.
Ridiculously embarrassing. Thankfully no one had seen except her dragonflies, and they would never tell.
