Off far into the east lay the ruins of an ancient dragon city. Civilization has long forgotten it, left to rot and be overtaken by the earth. Time has warped this impressive city into a husk of its former glory. Bones and rubble are all that remain. This accursed land lays shrouded clouds and the land has long since fallen silent. Though locals will swear of inhuman sounds coming from within, cries of monsters and creatures that have taken shelter within its ragged halls. Whispers have traveled been growing about a treasure that lurks deep within the ruins, something of great value that was forgotten, waiting to be found.

Atheranni loved to venture off into uncharted lands. As she grew old enough, for many years she wen to vacant and bountiful lands. Some more accepting than others, none the less, adventures. The elvish women adored any sort of adventuring. Distant lands full of stories to be told, secrets to be heard. The thought thrilled her. So when tasked on aiding a fellow comrade, to travel, Atheranni jumped at the opportunity. She packed her necessities and her staff and practically ran to her comrade.
The two now settled in an ancient dragon city. Vethra could hardly contain her elegant and ever radiant smile as the two walked with ease into these lands. Her dress held nothing fancy, yet she made it easily wearable to a ball. The scarf that sometimes gathered against her head now rested against her neck, keeping it warm as a small wind blew. Her staff clung to her backside, stick outwards to her left shoulder and right hip. Vethra gathered her palms together and took a moment to take in the scenery.
A soft smile drew against her tattooed face. Vibrant white that trailed all down her face, hiding beneath her dress, however still there. Her hazel eyes wafted toward her comrade "I wish to thank you on bringing me here. Its.... marvelous." Her voice ever gentle, soft and sweet like candy. She offered her friend a smile before her eyes gazed against the wasted ancient city. The wind brought silence... but there was something here, wandering, waiting for a chance to speak up.

As the two strode over the lands Surtrs lavender hues would find Vethra walking next to him with poise and the quintessence of elegance. It brought a soft smile to his face. To see her walking in such a proper manner but beaming with such jubilance. The pure exuberance of a child mixed with the epitome of grace. The juxtaposition brought a soft chuckle to his lips. It was a funny sight and one he enjoyed seeing. While the company was appreciated Surtr had actually invited her to observe and see her in action. Anyone could look the part in the safety of their kingdom but in order to see just who she is Surtr intended to remove that comfort.
Though Vethra was excited to be out of that comfort zone it seemed a very positive sign a good first step to see. As her hazel eyes met his that soft smile grew into a rather large grin. "It truly is, the company is quite pleasant as well. The world seems to have more color when sharing it with another." He said with a soft smile as they came to the edge of the ancient city. The duo stopped just outside its edge and Surtr scanned the horizon of it taking time to meticulously scan it to look for any immediate signs of danger. His left hand came up to his chin and rubbed it gently as he looked a bit perplexed while observing it.
"I assume you hear nothing as well. To avoid cliches let's just say it's a rather ominous silence." He said with a soft smirk that age old saying ringing out in his mind as he looked upon it watching. His mind was working out how best to proceed. "So your strengths are healing correct? If so thats rather fortuitous as I have a knack for getting hurt." He said with a soft chuckle before nodding to himself. "We shall proceed directly ahead. I'll be sure to go first to absorb any hits." He said with a soft smile as he began to walk into the ruins glancing back reassuringly as the two stepped into the area.
Once they began to enter in Vethra would feel a very odd presence. She would begin to hear whispers in the distance from many different directions. As they walked into what would appear to be the center of the abandoned city a decrepit fountain would be seen and the whispered would suddenly stop. The fountain gave off a very odd aura which caused the feathers on Surtrs back to stand up displaying that whatever it was unsettled the archmage.

Surtr was a man Vethra knew not. She was new to Karst, very new. In fact, just three years ago had she officially moved into the Republic. This whole professor thing was extremely new and rather exciting to say the least. Vethra decided to settle down however the calling for something more... intrigued her. And now here she stood with a figure much taller than her, despite her own tall figure. He was unique and riveting. When he grinned, she offered flushed cheeks, her eyes adverting slightly. Such an interesting being.
Her steps were slower than Surters, thus she followed. When the two stood at the edge of the city, silence overwhelmed the two. He looked at it, perplexed, scratching at his chin. Vethra offered a loving gaze at the city, tilting her head to the side with a happy smile "Ominous indeed. Very cliche." She let a small laugh slip her cheery lips. There was history here. Whatever it was, it was eager to be known, Vethra knew so. It riled her up. Her hands filled with each other, slim and small, they trailed each other finger prints.
Hazel eyes met the mans face, a small twitch of her face reveal small confusion. Mention of healing? Her perked lips parted, air wisped against her teeth. He spoke, a charmed smile. "I have been known for my healing of the body, mind, and soul, yes." Her fingers clasped together as she raised her head to the sky for a moment. "I'll make sure you are safe during our journeys." Vethra gave a supportive nod, herself a confident women. She wasn't one to know her titles, or perhaps support them... however her dream was to be known for healing...all. Confidence she did have, however was she perfect? No. Thus this whole cycle starts again.
She took a breath in and followed five steps behind Surtr, her eyes glanced backwards and then toward every direction possible. Whispered trailed into her ears, feeling distant yet so close. Attempting to enjoy the beauty and stiffness of the place made it a little hard for her as the whispers danced in her ears. What exactly did they entail? Vethra wished she knew. So taking what she could handle, she focused on what made sense. Once the two entered the center of the village silence echoed....whispers failed to reach her ears. Her stature tensed ever so slightly, eyes veering off to Surter as he stood upright, obviously unsettled. Just what was this place?

ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
When here cheeks flushed at his gaze it brought a soft chuckle through Surtrs lips escaping unintentionally through. Such a cute reaction, especially from someone who seemed so above him in etiquette. A very intriguing one she had been and it seemed with each turn she continued this trait. His smile settled from the reaction to her girlish blush as his eyes returned to the task as hand. It was unnerving this place, very rarely were all the rumors true. Word of mouth lead to exaggeration and often times Surtr would come and be disappointed by what lay behind the curtain. Surtr surmised this would not be one such occasion. She agreed to his proposal and an assuring nod came to affirm the agreement.
Upon reaching the center Surtr looked upon the cracked fountain intrigued by what it was. They must have reached something as that eerie ambiance of muffled voices had stopped. Whatever lay upon this place the fountain must have been a confluence of sorts. Surtr stepped forward and peered over the edge. As he did he could clearly see a single skeleton laying upon the floor outstretched and ancient in nature it looked to be the remains of a citizen of this town. "Hmmmm....." He said resting a hand upon the edge of the fountain to get a better look.
The moment his palm connected with the eroded concrete the area hummed with a deep and dark tone. Surtr promptly lifted his hand and unfurled his wings giving them one powerful flap to take himself back to Vethras side. "That may have been my doing..." He said with a slightly embarrassed tone rubbing the back of his neck he glanced to her for a moment. Though his gaze darted back to the fountain as the very ground beneath them began to shake. Subtly and a deep rumble as if to signify the coming of something. Within a few moments black tar began to spill from the cracked opening of the fountain falling out and down into the base filling it up just to the edge.
Surtrs head tilted slightly as his stance widened preparing himself. Black tar filling up a tub with bones inside? All of that was the recipe for something bad and the Archmage was preparing himself. His hypothesis was unfortunately correct as a hand of bone slipped from the tar to grasp at the edge as the skeleton that lay with pulled its torso from the tar. Its empty husks of eyes seemed to peer at the two. It reared its body back before hunching over and spewing forth a monstrous amount of the same black tar that emanated from the fountain.
Surtr immediately stepped in front and took in a deep breath before exhaling. As the mage let loose a wide gout of fire erupted forth catching the tar and halting it in its tracks. For a few moments the two seemed to remain at a stalemate fire and some ungodly substance colliding and intertwining with one another before dissipating. As the flame died down so did the tar and the Archmage eyed the creature cautiously reactively awaiting its next move.
As he stood with his arms at his side his adrenaline coursing through his veins he wouldn't feel or smell what had happened. A bit of the tar had made contact with his left forearm and it was beginning to eat away at the tissue a hole was forming as it continued to spread leaving necrotic flesh in its wake. Vethra would surely smell it or perhaps even notice it before than but Surtr for some reason couldn't. The tar itself smelt pretty foul and as it was eating away it caused him no pain so of course he wouldn't be able to tell. Though if Vethra didn't pick up on the attack then Surtr could very well lose his arm within a few minutes.
His own magical energy began to build as he prepared to launch his own attack if this grotesque creature was going to sit idly by. Little did Surtr know it had already landed the first blow and was merely waiting for its prey to perish.
...and to the dust we shall return...

Her mind wandered the vast, quite land. She studied everything about it, hoping to remember this all for years to come. The women raised her hands lightly now, to her bellybutton. Her gown flowed along as she continued to remain behind the other mage. He became intrigued by a crack in the fountain. The ambiance had silenced now, Vethra tensed as she wished to see as well. As she made a slow approach to Surtr's side, Surter had already started the doom of them all.
As his palm connected with the concrete, the area hummed with a vibration of which she had never felt. It was dark and deep, Vethra did not like the ambiance of it all. Surtr lifted his wings, giving them a single powerful flap, taking him back to her side. Her eyes glistened with amazement, eyes following Surtr, in particular his wings. She wished to outreach and touch the wings, however her arms remained still, fearful. For this was not the mission currently. Doe like eyes set on the fountain that shook at its core, angered by their disturbance. Her plump lips pursed, the sound of something thick and foul fought their ways to her heightened ears. Her rather large, pointed ears, twitched at the sound of it all, eyes narrowing.
And up came a tar like goop. Nice to know the sound now, at least shed knew to expect this stuff relative to the noise now. However this was a recipe for disaster. Her right hand reached toward her heart, her left slightly outreached toward Surtr. Not hindering his movement in any way, fingers grazing against his hand, nervousness getting the better of her. What creature that came forth the goop had Vethra crunch her nose in disgust. The monstrous creature, it was of skeleton shape, its eyes hollow and heartless. Vethra's heart ached for the poor creature.
Not a moment lather, its back hunched and out it spewed forth black tar, sending chills down the Elvens spine. Surtr took a protective stance, her heart thanked him. Inhaling deeply with a purpose, the man exhaled a grand fire ball from his throat, meeting with the tar, halting it. Her right hand that grabbed for her heart, now gripped at her wool scarf that dangled in the wind. The heat was immense, Vethra felt a singe at her eyebrows, a few strands of her long locks missing. What a waste. When the collide had finished, a stench came forth from Surtr. What was that god awful smell? The evlish women glanced at the magical mage before her, noting nothing obvious until her eyes met with the man's left arm.
"Oh, oh!" Her mind began to understand. Vethra took a few jumps toward Surtr as his presence began to build. He was build up his next attack. No, no, no. Vethra reached for his hand, her fingers tingled with sensation as her hand clasped Surtrs own. She was not a strong women, however will all her might she pulled the man toward her. Her heart raced, face flushed by the opportunity to aid. Her right hand cupped the underside of Surtrs arm, right above lay the tar that began to erode at Surtrs skin. Her eyes fluttered, closing as she brought his hand up toward her lips. It looked as if her lips would almost meet Surtrs skin, just before the tar. Her touch was ever soft, her skin supple, untouched by the dangers of the world. She inhaled and when she exhaled a cooling sensation brought over Surtr. Out of her pursed lips came ice and snow, sealing away and freezing the small section of tar.
Her eyes fluttered open to gaze at the mans arm, wish to double check her work. Her gaze turned toward Surtr "You did not mean it figuratively." A small smile present on her graceful face "I'll whip up a potion after. This is only temporary. Be cautions," She softly released the man, taking a step back and allowing the man to lead once more "my friend." she would reach behind her, her staff glowing with a white radiance. This freezing of his arm would be temporary. Subduing an acidic substance is an easy feat, but not something she could conjure up at this very second. She would need a moment of peace to heal it correctly.

ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
Power was building rising to prepare for the next onslaught. His eyes peering about looking for something to handle the creature. They went up and to the dark clouds that now loomed overhead a smile crept across his lips as a spell had wandered into his mind. Well perhaps not necessary a spell but an experiment that had proved itself before. He continued to build power watching the enemy to ensure no counters were necessary.
Just as it was built and Surtr was preparing to fire he felt a hand upon his own. His head tilted but he did not look back perhaps she was just scared. Then came something freezing. An icy localized feeling numbing an area. He looked back to see a necrotic mark upon himself and that it had eaten a rather large part of his flesh. It was fortuitous Vethra had seen it. The smell of the tar and his own focus had kept him from perceiving that attack. Surtrs mind now pieced together the puzzle. It only needed a touch a simple touch and in turn it could wait for its prey to decay.
The creature seemed in too pleased about the two figuring out its tactic. It let out a blood curdling shriek before receding into the fountain. The moment it went under Surtr looked up and raised both his hands to the sky before releasing two monstrous lightning bolts up into the heavens one from each hand. He turned to Vethra and with his free hand scooped her up and took to the air.
They settled on a nearby building using the roof that still stood as their perch. He maintaining a gentle touch upon her shoulder with his non injured arm being sure to prevent any sort of contamination if possible. The coulda above began to boom and rumble surging and flowing with magical energy that was continuing to build. The natural static was all being concentrated to a single point by Surtrs attack and he knew full well what came next.
"I always get this part..." He said with a soft chuckle before releasing his hold of her and once again taking to the sky. He rose high up into the air just below the cloud line it beginning to glow with energy a foreshadowing of what was to come. Out from the unnatural pool of darkness rose some monstrosity coated in and now molded by it. It howled up at Surtr honing in its target.
Surtr's wings tucked and he began to divebomb at the creature. It launched its arms upward as they outstretched a very unnatural length the tar flowing out to meet Surtr. He barrel rolled deftly ibetween them narrowly avoiding their contact. About 100 meters from the ground an incredulous bolt of lightning erupted out chasing Surtr from behind. What followed was likely impossible to see to the naked eye. The bolt hit and enveloped Surtr supercharging him and launching the man at impossible speeds into the heart of the fountain.
It hit with such heat and force that a plume of smoke burst forth obscuring both the monster and the arch she from few. A scream from the beast came upon impact and after the rubble settled there was silence. A few moments later soft steps could be heard and out of the chaos emerged the archmage looking quite disheveled. He levitated Vethra down before slumping against a nearby wall using the battered structure for shelter.
He let out a long deep sigh as he looked to the fountain seeing just a smashed bit of rubble where the creature remained no sign of it left. His left wing was broken and so was the other arm along with a few ribs. Surtr was not a physically durable being so attacks that relied on physical prowess often times came with such consequence. An it if blood began to trail from his left lip likely a bit of internal bleeding from the rib breaks. Despite shallow breathes it would be apparent that no lung was punctured thankfully. In addition it appeared the lightning that coated him prevented any more exposure to that unknown liquid that seemed to fuel that creature.
He sat in a broken slump waiting for the subject matter expert to take a look at him.
...and to the dust we shall return...

Her ice would hold for an hour max. A fight would not last that long, she was glad. Vethras eyes drafted toward the creature whom seemed all to pleased at its succession. Her heart sank, the soul of the being was not pure. Such a same, Vethra wished it all teh best, but death must come to it. The two were lucky, to have noticed the creatures evil plot. For she feared the death of the Mage, it would be on her hands. The creature didn't seem to have any emotion besides greed to kill. She wouldn't allow that. For if she cannot lay hands in a threatening manner, she lay hands in a healing manner, destroying the idea of death.
The creature shrieked, receding into the fountain. Perhaps fleaing? Fleaing was an option for most, but now... no. Her gaze met the winged mage, he had the same idea as her. Surtr looked upwards, Vethra followed his hands as they reached to the sky, releasing lightening into the heavens, one from each hand. Her eyes wafted go Surtrs face, quite magical. His body would turn toward her. Her own body straightened, the hand that clasped her chest remained there, gripping harder. Why would he set his gaze upon her? He reached for her, scooping her gently upwards and into the air.
Her hands went toward the mans chest, startled by the action. Her eyes wide, wanting to lock this in her memory forever. Her eyes filled with the sky, long hair dashed across her face. Such beauty in something so simple, a soft smile. The two settled on a building nearby, like a perch. He did not release her completely, a gentle touch upon her shoulder to keep a reminder of his existence, his protection. She wished to thank him, though thanks wern't necessary. It was a sort of equivalent exchange. His protection for her healing. She knew this, the two both needed each other, however her gratitude remained in her heart, keeping her warm. Vethra was exlierated, face flushed with wonder. Static energized the area, her skin reacting by chills against her vertebrae. A soft smile.
Clouds began to boom, demanding attention. They flowed with magical energy that wished to be released, begged for it. She was eager to see its release. Her eyes remained attached on the fountain as Surtr chuckled, releasing his gentle hold on her. Taking to the sky, sending strands of hair against her cheeks. A hand caressed her face, tucking behind her large ears. Surtr was magnificent. A warmth greeted her soul as the events made her heart soar. Dust and debree, lighting, clouds thundered. All the sensations in one, yet her sight wasn't able to catch the wonders of all. Thus she was allowed to imagination. Which.was.delightful.
Her body began to levitate, moving toward her own target. When she met with Surter, her hands were against the mans body, her eyes ravaging him. He smelled of sweat, blood, tar, and magic that lingered. Her fingers sparked as he took a long sigh. "Do I need to remind you the definition of caution?" Vethra broke the silence, a soft and every glowing smile against her tanned skin, cheeks flushed from all the action. Her hands would leave him, grabbing for her staff as she slammed it onto the ground, a circle surrounded the ground beneath him, sparks and ice mixing. Using a free hand, it raised up as her magic oozed upwards to the mans body. The sensation was cooling like mint, yet warm to the core. The cooling healed all exterior, the warmth traveled through his body healing inside.
A slender finger pointed outwards, indicating for him to remain stationary. Her staff cupped her backside once more. Her back toward Surtr as her eyes darted through the grounds. She was looking for herbs. One hand gathered her hair and pushed it to her front, exposing her neck, allowing the wind to take her scent. She smelled of a mixture of grass and mint, proving her times spent in the grass. Feet glided through the area, guiding her to objects she needed. Gathering herself, she retreated back toward Surtr. With the ingredients she found a place to mash them together. A paste was formed and soon gathered around her small fingers, she walked toward him. Her free hand extended toward his left, cupping beneath the frozen tar. The ice she had placed before melted, the water dripping down to her fingertips, slithering upwards to her elbow where they began to drip onto the ground. With the paste in her other hand, she pressed against his tarred, rotting skin. The sensation was something unfamiliar. It was indescribable.
"This will sedate the tar and promote regrowth." She said, her index finger circling around the wound as the tar began to dissipate and reveal his rotting skin. A small frown pressed against her face, lips down turned as she pouted lightly. The wound looked painful. She prayed he felt only minor injuries, but feared truly how pained the man was. Vethra continued to rub the paste against the rotted skin in a slow circular motion, gentle as can be. Her gaze dared to reach upwards to Surtrs own, curious to what he was feeling.

ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
She broke the silence and a chuckle escaped the mans lips before a wince quickly followed it. Laughing and broken rips were not a good combination. "Who needs caution when they have a healer?" He whispered in a ragged tone smirking softly at her excited state. She was beautiful in an objective way, just a statement that no matter orientation or preference someone would say and her pleasant disposition only furthered the ideal. It was a good thing Surtr avoided any sort of courting else this adventure would soon likely deviate from its intended path. As she began to work her magic the archmage lay there battered and partially broken studying her as she began. This was the intention all along expose himself to peril and watch how she handled herself. It was a rather reckless decision willing throwing himself into the fray when it was well known that his kind was not durable. It could be possible that he over extend and thus open himself up to be damaged beyond repair. Though he had heard such tales of her and had an odd faith in her ability despite witnessing so little of it.
As it washed over him he felt the pain begin to fade. Surtr had been exposed to pain for over ten thousand years so while it hurt the man lay in a rather relaxed way as if broken bones and rotting flesh was the norm. It came over him in waves first cooling and repairing whatever surface damage there was and then warming him to his core penetrating through to what lay cracked beneath. It repaired the damage as she floated off in search of something. He nodded softly to himself mentally checking off boxes of what he believed was required for her to fill a role that was now vacant.
As she gestured for him to remain still he smirked. "That won't be an issue." He mused internally concluding that any movement right now would be a very poor decision and likely ruin the work that Vethra had already done. He had no intentions of being such a bother nor did he wish to make this little examination more painful that it needed to be. He let out a long sigh as it appeared all but the rotting flesh was resolved. A rather fortuitous turn of events for her to be so proficient. He hadn't come with low expectations but he did not expect such prowess.
He watched as she treated the final wound and observed everything. The way she created the solution, how she handled him with care, the sense of calm she was able to display while dealing with a foreign poison. All of it was noted and sealed away in his mental vault so that he could continue to gauge just how prepared she was. He made not effort to hide how intently he was looking upon her, how interested he was in what she did. It was there for her to see in his eyes and the fact she still maintained such poise with it being there only served to better her standing.
As she mentioned its purpose before returning her gaze to him he smiled exuberantly before rising. "Splendid work. It seems I was not wrong to put my faith in you." He said cheerfully before rising getting extremely close to her face for a brief moment as he rose. "My thanks!" He said dipping his head before walking to the pile of rubble that was once the fountain. He stood over it looking upon the pile of crumbling stone his eyes searching for something.
"Hmmmm...." Escaped his lips. He saw what remained but it visibly displeased him. His brow furrowed and his lips scrunched. The smashed remained of the skeleton lay here but there were no remnants of the tar that once lay upon it. This was not a good sign, it told Surtr that the creature they fought was but merely a guard. It was not the source of evil but a notable side effect. He turned back to Vethra and shook his head. "I would suspect what we seek lays in the heart of the city. I propose we set up camp here on the outskirts for the night and observe before moving in at daybreak....." He said looking to her awaiting to see her response.
The two were partners on this expedition and Surtr didn't enjoy telling people what to do so instead he merely voiced his opinion and waited to see what she thought. He was a very easy going man so he wouldn't mind changing their plan if she had a preference. Some food and rest would do the duo good though, at least in Surtrs mind. His wings were tucked against his back his scarred chest bare and free of feathers. The plumage resumed upon his waist and trailed down his body coating his lower half and back up to his shoulders. His arms were free of such a hindrance which was good as it would allow his wound to heal faster without something depriving it of air.
...and to the dust we shall return...

At Surtrs smart remark, Vethra frowned and scrunched her nose at him. Joking aside, someone shouldn't recklessly endanger their life. His wounds were severe, however nothing odd like she might have expected. Mending bones, bruises, lacerations. Those she could handle with a flick of the wrist. Acidic waste was a different story, however with the right stuff, decently easy. It all mattered about how well her hands could move, which they where great at.
Having others admire her was something Vethra knew not. She was admirable beyond what she knew. Her beauty being one, tales of how she got such a way spread in her village. Perhaps her family had a sacrifice? Or the gods had led her down to this world, allowing such a beauty to grace everyone's presence. The young and old, unfriendly and friend, no matter orientation or possible preference, everyone saw the beauty that was Vethra. Except Vethra, for she knew only the beauty of others.
Her finger finished its work, skin regenerated to a meer scar. Scars added beauty, though some did not see that. Her face turned slightly, curious to know if he cared about it, surely not. Her gaze mated Surtr as he began to rise, speaking in a cheerful manner, inching closer to her. On an instinct reaction, her ears and cheeks flushed, confused and conflicted. Her heart soared when the man offered thanks to her. A soft smile pressed against her lips as she watched him dip away, avoiding fatality. She would glance down at her hand full of paste. Grabbing for a leaf on the ground, she wiped away the leftovers. Now focusing on Surtr's destruction he had created. Her steps slowed, then to a halt as her own eyes eyed the fountain. Destroyed.
Fingers clasped together, well weren't they in a pickle. Remains of the demented skeleton scattered around the fountain, however no tar. A sign not so comforting. She was unsure what that indicated except their journey was simply beginning. Her head swiveled to listen, Mage speaking up about setting up camp. A soft nod, her eyes darting back at the fountain. The silence filled for a moment as she continued to eye the fountain mindlessly. Snapping out of it, her head offered a nod "I shall let the expert decide, however rest would do you well." Vethra stated in a warming tone, taking steps away from the fountain. Her head peered back, expecting the man to follow. "A fire offers times for adventure telling. I have looked forward for that moment." Her eyes gleamed, a small smile against her rosy cheeks.

ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
He smiled softly as she accepted his request. What wonderful company indeed. He followed behind her until the two came to a piece of land untouched with stone. Grass and trees loomed about creating a small little eco system within the decay. It was likely a park when the city was alive. Now it was nothing but a lost piece of nature surrounded by mans unnatural hand. Surtr smiled as he looked upon it and began to gather wood together. "Well you may start the adventure telling. Or if you have any questions feel free to ask." He said with a soft smile continuing to gather wood.
As he collected it he then came to patch of dirt in the grass and placed the various sizes of sticks into a little cone of shapes before lining it with stones. He looked upon it before puffing once and watching as a little burst of fire escaped his lips igniting the kindling and starting a nice fire for the two.
Surtr sat down within its light and crossed his legs before stretching out his wings and then bringing them back in against his back. They often needed to be stretched else they would begin to ache. An unfortunate side effect of having such large and powerful appendages. He patted the ground next to him offering the seat to Vethra should she choose to accept. There was even a decent sized tree behind it so that she could lean back and relax if need be. He was unsure just how much she had adventured but regardless a foe like that tended to wear on even the most seasoned of warriors.
"So...that cute shade of pink that races across your visage. Is that common place? Or am I merely special?" He teased light heartedly, he was beginning his poking and prodding a very normal thing for Surtr. He found that probing those around him was the best way to understand them, in addition it was fun to take little pokes at those especially when it had the chance of eliciting such a delightful response. His lavender eyes watching her their pupil less gaze perhaps a bit eerie but they were soft in the look they cast, as if to invite her to join him and let loose a bit.

Finding a lovely spot to stop. She halted movement, glancing around the subtle beauty of the land, it was alive compared to the rest of the city. Grass grew and tress over ran the place, odd for a deserted city, but a lovely place to rest. Surtr parted from her and began to gather wood. Vethra gathered their belongings and brought out the food, figuring out what to make of it all. He spoke up as she lay against the ground, eyes peering over to him "Adventures I lack, however I assume you have many, great Mage." The elf spoke highly of him, her eyes following him as he continued to gather wood.
A fire was perfect for the now setting sun. Vethra stood with two cups in her hands, gracefully waltzing her way toward Surtr as he offered a spot beside the man. She lowered herself downwards slowly, offering him water. She let her dress fold and hid every bit of her legs that lay beside her, leaning on one hand as she brought her own cup to her lips, eyes locking with Surtrs as he spoke. His compliment and question brought the same shade of pink to her face and ears, sparking her intrigue in the man.
"I must ask which answer you would prefer." She spoke softly, lowering her cup to her lap. Her eyes peered into his own playful ones, attempting to study him. She understood his actions, however lacked the ability to know the weight of them, just yet. Her head tilted ever so slightly to the left, allowing her flowing hair to fall down and graze the grass "I am gifted, I hide not any emotion. I do believe not many could do so." She began to state "The hues I flush, I intend to embrace, however your choosing." She offered a rather confusing answer, if you could call it that.
"Special you are however. I am curious about you, a great deal." Her eyes cast down for a moment, admiring the mans visage. Her hazel eyes dazzled in the light of the fire, much like the ocean enjoyed the light of the sun. They would move up like a wave to greet the mans lavender eyes, unique in every way. A playful smile drew.

ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
"Me?" Surtr inquired sarcastically chuckling to himself as she mentioned that he would many great adventures. "I am but a relic of the past. I suppose I have many tales. I could tell some but I wouldn't know where to start." He said with a soft chuckle. He had enough to keep her entertained for weeks and yet without any hint of where to begin or a genre of tale it would be unlikely he'd be able to pick one to tell her. As she offered him a cup he cheerfully took it before taking a good drink and allowing a pleased sigh to escape his lips. It was refreshing and something that came as a very wonderful comfort to him.
"Hmmmmm, which I prefer.... I suppose the truth. While it would be quite flattering if it was me that caused those shades of pink I would much rather know the truth." He said with a smile giving her a brief insight into his persona. A man of truth through and through even if the truth was far more painful. "Quite noble to wear your emotions on your sleeves. I unfortunately an incapable of such a thing." He said taking another sip and seeing the food that she unraveled he perked up and smiled. "I would love to prepare the meal if you'd let me?" He asked hoping she would grant him the opportunity. He loved to cook and if she would grant him permission he'd happily show her just a small portion of his skill.
"Curious about me? Seems like a rather boring topic to be sure. Though I can try to rid you of whatever curiosities may be plaguing your mind right now." He said with a soft smile looking upon her luminescent hues watching the light from the fire dance off of them. "We'll play a game. I ask a question and then you and so on and so forth. You may go since I just asked a question." He said with a soft smile and a rather glowing glance waiting for her question so that he could answer and let the game begin.
...and to the dust we shall return...

"We study relics, ancient history, do we not?" the lovely elf spoke, inquiring such an obvious question "And yet you deem yourself dull, boring, and lacking. It makes little sense that you are simply but a figure. There are many tales about you, despite your lack of wanting to repeat them." Vethra gazed at the man, blinking slowly "You are more than you believe. I attest to that." She would raise her glass to it, sipping lightly on the water.
"Ahh, truth." She would say, her head raising to the sky, throat exposed and tight as she sucked air in, exhaling slowly, bringing her head back down to look at grass petals. She began to pluck them, a single one after another. "There are many truths, much like stories. This truth.... I'm not quite sure what it is." she said hesitantly, eyes daring to glance up at the creature before her. Dare she say it, knowing nothing. Perhaps just curiosity had brought her flushed feelings. Yes, surely it is that simple. She begun to swirl the water. "Doubtful. You'll encourage me to spread your heart, Mage. Do not tempt me." The elf warned, a tilt of her head, flashing her whites at him. Emotion is something so few could truly hide.
She would chuckle lightly and offer a nod "A man, cooking for me? Sounds delightful." She would push her hand forward, allowing him the opportunity. The women was a fine cook herself, but not her true passion nor hobby. A skill nearly every women needed in this sort of life. She was refreshed to know he had interest in such things. Would he be any good? It excited her, she leaned against the tree now, relaxing further into their conversations.
"Do you deny yourself feeling?" Vethra questioned, sense gaining opportunity to ask such questions. Possible that she had reached too far already, however the women, despite her grace, loved to get to the point. Dancing around questions proved a delightful thing as well, however Surtr seemed not the type that needed to. The two would spend the night together anyways, perhaps it better to know one that sleep next to each other. Her head tapped against the trees gurth, hair falling behind her, revealing her white tattoos that trailed delicately down her collarbones, disappearing beneath her gown.

d ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
As she mentioned relics and ancient history the archmage chuckled. "Correct, though we also leave those things on our shelves to collect dust. I'm afraid I will soon deserve the latter." He said with a rather playful chuckled as she began to praise him. She spoke about how he was more than he thought and his left hand batted in her direction gently as if to brush away such silly things. "Nonsense, I am what I am young one and while there are many tales about me I'm sure many of them are not worth the time to tell." He said knowing it would likely be annoying to be so modest. While he was aware of his strength and accomplishments he never really liked to speak of himself he much preferred to hear from others. He had accrued plenty of titles and fame during his existence, he was far more interested in her.
"Spread my heart? What a curious thing to say. If you mean to look deep within and seek something I can assure nothing profound lays beneath feather and flesh." He said with a chuckle his soft smile growing to a wide grin as she accepted his offer to allow him to prepare. His hands rubbed together in excitement as he reach over and lifted up a rather flat piece of stone which he proceeded to blow upon. As he did fire slipped from his lips coating the stone and removing any plant life of dirt that was upon it while simultaneously sterilizing it so it could properly handle their ingredients.
He set it atop his lap and watched as the ingredients she had pulled forth seemed to move of their own volition settling down upon the makeshift cutting board. As he was about to begin she asked her question and his ears perked his eyes moving to her for a moment as he shook his head softly before returning to what lay atop his lap. "Unfortunately it is quite the opposite. I cannot rid myself of feeling." He said opening his hands and facing the palms to the ingredients. His fingers began to twitch and move and as they did the vegetables began to dice and cut themselves. In reality it was Surtrs doing but it still appeared to be quite a spectacle. "I am plagued by feeling, it haunts me day in and day out with no escape. I would remove my heart if it would help in anyway...." He said with a small chuckle. If Vethra was watching his chest closely she would see a scar running between two of his ribs on his left side. It was deliberate and precise in nature not like the rest that were jagged and rough. This was done with intention, in truth Surtr had removed his heart before while experimenting with magic though it was returned to its rightful place and now once again beat back within it. His tone was light while talking but if she looked into his eyes she would see that something else lurked beneath it. There was some sort of emotion that was very heavy whether it was negative or positive was unknown but it was obvious Surtr felt something very strongly.
He turned his attention to the meat a few strips of it enough for the two to share and plenty to create a nice kabob for each. He smiled as two long sticks found their way from the wooded area behind them to dangling over the fire for a few moments to clean themselves before beginning to hover in front of Surtr.
He judiciously added some seasoning to the components being sure to coat them but not so much so that it would overpower them. Then he manually placed them upon the stick before watching as they moved over the fire and began to rotate slowly atop it the cooking process beginning. With it being done he set his makeshift cooking station upon the ground and looked to Vethra. "Why did you come to karst? It's obvious you're quite gifted but to leave your people..... You must either truly love what you do or there is more to the tale."' He said with a rather inquisitive look wondering if she did in fact have some little juicy secret or reason to come. Karst was a harsh place to live and to leave a pleasant country side behind would lead most to call Vethra crazy.
