The banging and thumping of furniture being moved around echoed through the semi-detached house. It was accompanied by the angry muttering of the house's owner as he tried to put some semblance of order into the chaos he'd walked back into early this morning. Rob had gotten precious little sleep, and that plus dealing with a disaster area didn't put him in the best of moods. It was like all the resting and recharging he'd done in London was negated by coming home to find his house in a shambles. He wasn't the neatest of people himself, but this was too much. He never should have let Sid move in, childhood best friend or no. Never.Rob dropped the end of the couch on the floor, letting it bang loudly. No, that still wasn't right. Stomping to the other end, he lifted it, shifted it a few inches, and let it fall with another loud bang. "That'll ********' do," he muttered, then he kicked the small coffee table's leg to nudge it into something resembling alignment. He went over to a chair that was lying on its side what the ******** had been going on here and picked it up, slamming it down hard on the floor. He really wanted a beer, but he really wanted to at least get started on fixing the damage that had been done to his house while he'd been away. In fact, a beer wouldn't cut it. This disaster called for something much stronger. He'd have to check to see if there was any whiskey left in the house. Somehow he doubted it.

There was an awful banging going on downstairs, and for a wild moment, still trying to drag herself up out of the clinging dregs of sleep, Sidney thought the house was being robbed. Robin’s house. Full of their things, including some very expensive instruments and recording equipment. s**t. Had she brought someone over last night? Was this them? Her thoughts moved sluggishly as she tumbled out of her bed, reaching automatically for the tshirt and shorts she kept by the bed, just in case. A colorful epithet burst from the small DJ as she stumbled to the door, tripping over something with sharp corners before she managed to make it out of the apparent death-trap her room had become. She managed to grab her rainbow pen on the way by, but that was as far as her preparation got before she was thumping down the stairs to the landing and rounding on… a lean blonde with dreads, mucking about with the furniture. Bare feet braced wide on skinny legs, her hair tousled and eyes heavy-lidded still with sleep, Sid stared dumbfounded at her room mate and tried to process him being there. Had he said he was coming home any time soon? She couldn’t remember… “Rob?” She croaked, her voice gummy and rough. “The ******** are you doing?” That hadn’t been quite what she had wanted to say first thing. It didn’t really express the expanding feeling in her chest as she watched him, looking him over with curious and appreciative eyes. He’d been gone for… bloody months, hadn’t it been? Not a word, hardly a good-bye, and no sign of when he’d be back… but he looked good. So good. She’d missed him, she’d felt it, but seeing him in person only underscored it.

Robin was so engrossed in what he was doing and muttering to himself under his breath that he didn't hear the telltale creaking of the old duplex's stairs (not that Sid made them creak that much, small and thin as she was), so her croaked question startled him. He whipped his head around, blond dreadlocks flying, to stare at her on the landing. Even as angry as he was at her, even as just-woke-up tousled as she looked, he felt a little lurch in his chest when he saw her. She was still his closest friend, and despite himself he had missed her. He wanted nothing more than to go over and draw her into his arms. But he was also still angry at the mess he'd come home to. "Sid," he finally said, keeping his voice as level as he could manage. "Didn't know if you were home or not." He put down the chair he'd been holding, moving it into its proper position before turning back to face her. "What the ******** happened here? I come in this morning and nearly break a leg tripping over s**t. Did you try to rearrange the place yourself and miss, or were you playing a particularly lively game of 'The Floor Is Lava' while I was away?"

She managed a pained smile as he said her name, a hand in her hair scratching sheepishly at her scalp. He was angry. She could tell by the stiffness and the scowl. The banging about he’d been doing was probably why and for the first time in a while, Sid stopped to consider how the place looked as pink eyes slid across the floor. Sid had never been a good housekeeper. Keeping things picked up, cleaning things, all took work and effort and time. All those things were in limited supply and there always seemed to be something better to turn them towards. Getting ready for work, recording music, sleeping after work or entertaining a guest… it all just got shoved to the bottom of the list so often it just sort of piled up. The overturned furniture he seemed to be focused on was less neglect and more active upset on her part and her expression turned sheepish, but unrepentant and well-satisfied. “Well, there was this hotty… tall, lean, blue haired? Super drunk and needy one night when we came home, you know? We didn’t make it to the stairs, and it got a little rough. I was going to pick stuff up!” She hurried to add, waving her fingers around. “You just got here before I could. Which, by the way, what are you doing here anyway? Taking off for a few months, no calls, no texts, no nothing… Could have fallen off the face of the Earth, for all I knew, or been… ya’know. Dead.” The word dropped like lead in a bucket of water and sank right to the pit of Sid’s stomach, sobering her up almost instantly. The playfully smile faded away and she worried the rings through her lips instead, a frown drawing lines across her forehead and peeking at the corner of her eyes. “You could have called.” She murmured, the huskiness back in her voice. “Let a mate know you’re okay, at least. Unless, I’m not any more...” He’d been gone for so long and not said a word, after all. She hadn’t even wondered, her faith unshakeable, until now. It made her feel a little fragile, standing there in her bare feet on the hardwood.

Listening as Sid explained why the house was in such a shambles, Rob struggled to keep his emotions under control. He was angry, it was true -- but she was clearly upset too, and from her words it dawned on him that he was just as much in the wrong as she was. She had deserved at least some contact from him while he was gone, being his housemate and supposed friend and all. No, no 'supposed' about it: Sid was his friend, still, and probably always. Then the D-word hit the floor like a great giant black cloud. Dead. He hadn't thought of it that way at all. The silence in the house now was deafening with that notion hanging between them. She didn't know he'd gone off to London; for all she knew, he could have gone out to fight a youma and ended up killed, or something like that. Hell, he'd told his parents more than he'd told her. The anger burning inside him slowly subsided with that cold realization. How could he have been so inconsiderate? And how could he stay angry with her when he'd frightened her like that? He sighed heavily, the tension disappearing from his posture. "No, love, no," he said, shaking his head as he turned his body to face her directly. "Look, Sid, I.. I ******** up. Okay?" He couldn't bring himself to actually apologize; it wasn't in his nature. "I didn't call you, and I should have. I didn't tell you where I was going, and I should have done that too. I just… didn't think… I didn't think, is what it is. I just buggered off like I always do." Slowly Rob made his way toward the stairs. "Took off runnin' to me comfort zone because that's what I do when I'm stressed and s**t. I shouldn't have left you here alone." He stopped, spreading his arms. "D'you forgive me?"

The anger seemed to wash out of him and with it went her own tension, replaced with relief. He'd stopped his rampage and now things were back into more familiar, and far more comfortable territory. It was selfish, and probably cowardly, to be glad she wasn't the subject of the fight any more, but hey... whatever resolved things, right? The blonde came towards the stairs with a contrite expression and Sid let herself tumble down them in a pattern of bare feet, stopping at the last step to give herself the height she needed to throw her arms around his neck and hug him fiercely close. "No, its okay! I'm just... I'm so glad you're back and I'm so sorry you had to find your house like this. It wasn't fair to you and I'm such as shitty friend for letting things slip like this." She said as she buried her face into his neck, pushing herself up onto her toes to press her whole, thin body against him. "Of course I forgive you! I was never mad, I just..." Her hands left his neck to cup his face instead as she pulled back a few inches, running over his ears to curl into his mess of dreadlocks. Her eyes were large and she angled him a look upwards through her lashes, her teeth nibbling at her lower lip with hesitation. "I'll clean everything up, I promise. I feel really bad about it... I don't even know where you've been.

A twinge of guilt washed over Rob as Sid hugged him tightly. He really had ******** up, hadn't he? He was still angry, and he still wanted to yell and throw things, but not as badly as he had. It was like the contact of her slim body against his melted the anger away, or at least cooled it down into something he had some control over. He really doubted she would actually clean everything up, but at least it was an earnest offer, and that he could accept. Yeah, she was a shitty friend… but she was his shitty friend. He let his arms slip around her, holding her close. The thing was, he was pretty sure she was playing him like she played her piano or like he played his guitar. The girl clearly hated conflict and would do anything to avoid it. But he simply couldn't force it on her. He'd seen what happened before when they fought: he got loud and shouty, she shut down and ran away. He couldn't do that to her again, even if she was manipulating him. And where he'd been… Her inquiry prompted another wave of guilt. "I went to London," he murmured, a bit of contrition in his voice as his gaze met hers. "I had to get out of this town for awhile, yeah? I just… I couldn't deal with this stupid ******** war any longer. I had to get away for a bit." Reaching up, he cupped her face in his hand. "I should have told you… I should have brought you along."

The tension seemed to have eased enough Sid could let a smirk tug up the corners of her lips as she leaned her cheek into Rob’s hand. “You did leave me kinda high and dry, Mr. I’ll-take-care-of-you.” She teased him gently. Sid dipped and pecked a quick kiss on his lips, her smile a little wide to take the sting out of her accusation. “I’m a big girl though, I’ve been figuring it out. Its not easy, mind you, but I got a thing going and its mostly working.” A shrug lifted a shoulder and dropped it dismissively, brushing off his regret for not taking her. “Its not a big deal. You needed the time and its not like there’s anything for me back there, eh? Hasn’t been for years now. Well, unless we count you.” She said. Her eyes softened and leaning in, she pressed a warmer kiss this time, something with more feeling to it as she wove her fingers together behind his neck. Her voice was low when she spoke again, more of the rasp in it. “You know I love you right? You’re my best mate, probably the only person in the whole world who gives two shits about me since, ya know, Ice… I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you. I know I’m kinda trash and stuff, and I’m pretty shitty about just about everything, but you mean the world to me. I’d do just about anything for you.” Sid smirked again, letting her teeth take hold of her lip as she shifted against him and humor lit up her face. “ Anything. And you’ve been gone for a while...”

Rob listened as she spoke, accepting both his apologies and regrets with gentle teasing and a sweet little kiss. "Yeah, I mean London is home, always will be. But I… just don't know how much is still there for me either, you know? It was good to visit, really good. Saw some of my relatives, Tubed it all over the city, hit my old stomping grounds an' s**t. But it's like that old saying goes: you can't go home again. And it's true, you really can't." Sid leaned into him, and he sighed deeply, pulling her closer against him as she kissed him again, this time with more behind it. "I love you too, Sid," he murmured before realizing what he'd said. His breath caught and he stiffened slightly; had he ever told anyone he loved them before? His mum and dad, sure, but that was a different kind of love. He'd never even told Aitana he loved her, and he was pretty sure he did. He just didn't really know what love felt like -- he'd never been in love. And he wasn't sure he was in love with Sid, but he did feel very strongly about her. "You're my best mate too, you know. Always have been. An' I'd do anything for you…" He brushed her lips with his, then kissed her sweetly and deeply. "Sorry I got a bit bitey there at first," he said finally with a sly lopsided little half-smile, running his hands up and down her back. "I have been away awhile, haven't I?"

Sidney chuckled richly and her own hands moved, petting his shoulders and the back of his neck to play with the small hairs that had come free of his dreads. It was good she'd gotten him back on track and OFF the one he'd been on. The anger seemed to have evaporated and that definitely deserved a reward for him. And for her, really. She's was kind of a shitty flat mate, she'd admit that, but she liked to think she made up for it in other ways. Who else could make him laugh like she could, play music with him, and give him a proper tumble? No one, she was pretty confident about that. "S'okay. You just got a fiery fey temper, that's all. I knew that already." She said. Pulling back, she ran her hands down his arms to his wrists and tugged him backwards with her. "Come on. You woke me up too early. You gotta take responsibility and put me back to bed." There was a laugh in her voice and a mischievous look to the rainbow DJ, her world set right again and the prospect of more pleasant times to follow.
