Scrape and One Beat have had a fantastic clutch of five– four bucks and a doe– (colored by the fantastic Sully) and we need to find homes for two of their sons, Buck 1 and Buck2. The theme of this contest is antonyms to honor one’s ancestors…. by showing just how unlike an ancestor they are! Search up One Beat’s family tree and pick an ancestor to honor by making an antonym of their name. Examples: Mend is named for her mother Scrape. Tripped Up can’t keep to his father, One Beat’s, steadfast rhythm. But it doesn’t have to be parents. Sharp Edges is named after his many time great grandmother, Soft Edges.
In addition to this, we’d like to see a short drabble! This can be a short naming dream (a doodle would work here!), something showing what they’ll be like growing up or as an adult, or a short scene showing them encountering some sort of challenge in life. Keep it short– less than 250 words! Prose, poetry, and haiku are all a-okay– just give us a peek of personality! <3 [b ]Name:[ /b] The name of the buck you are entering for [b ]Buck:[ /b] The buck you are entering for (you may enter for both, but in separate entries) [b ]Prompt:[ /b] [b ]Entry:[ /b] [b ]Are you a newbie?:[ /b] Ends EDT time 7:30 sunday

Name: False Hate (after true love - great-grandmother on father's side) Buck: 2 Prompt: Naming Dream Entry: All fluster and bluster like bees swarming 'round the hive just to feel alive
But then, a stutter As their hearts starts to flutter Unbeknownst to them
If they can't fight it Then they had better hide it Behind a false hate

Name: Freshwater (after Brine) Buck: Buck 1 Prompt: Naming Dream Entry: He ached. They told him to stop fighting, that he didn't have to challenge himself. That no one pitied him. That no one sought to best him. That he should be himself: clear and pure, reflecting only what he was. Like fresh water.
But a pond of fresh water looks just like a pond of blood, if you add enough blood to it. Are you a newbie?: N-no ..

Name: Hides in Sunlight (based off Shakes off Snow) Buck: Buck 1 Prompt: Naming Dream Entry: The sunlight fell onto his pelt, but the birds twittered on, and the small animals passed unknowingly. Kin too passed without seeing. He moved without noise, even during the day. Only the owlcat saw him, and it whispered in his ear, "you are one who hides in sunlight". Are you a newbie?: no

Name: Price of the Past (based off of Freely Tomorrow) Buck: Buck 2 Prompt: Prose Entry: Price, as he's most commonly referred to, is... not what you'd call lucky. Where others are afforded the opportunity to commit a mistake and skitter off having learned their lesson without capture, ridicule or identification, Price oft feels the sins of his past riding on his very shoulders. Every misstep feels etched into memory, every misspoken word recalled by others. He longs for just a quiet space, where he can be alone with his misfortune. Are you a newbie?: Yes
Name: Well Spoken (base off of Speak Not) Buck: Buck 1 Prompt: Prose Entry: A highly versed buck that charms those around him with easily recited poems, lymerics and daring tales from every corner of the swamp. He is careful, cunning and thinks well on every phrase before it rises from his voice. Are you a newbie?: Yes

Name: Love Will Set You Free (based off Anger is a Cage) Buck: Buck 1 Prompt: Naming Dream Entry: The swamp pulses with life, every bird song, every rustle of the wind, the gurgle of water through roots; the sound of its heartbeat. There is warmth here, for those who need it, whether they seek it or not. The tiny foal does not yet know this. He is too young to understand the ways of the world, yet. Its kindnesses -- and its cruelties. But there is Love in his heart. So much that it bleeds out of him, more and more as he grows older, and stronger, and wiser. He understands life is not always fair. But where there is Love, there is a way. After all, in the end, Love Will Set You Free. Are you a newbie?: No

Name: Peony Whirlwind (after Lavender Breeze) Buck: Buck One Prompt: Naming Dream Entry: Silence in a field of pale pink flowers. Delicate, easily bruised. Lifting a hoof, he teased the edge around the petals of one. He wondered...
Finding a clear space, he lay down. He wanted to get a good look at what he was going to do. Lifting his hoof again, he tilted his head and...
Slowly...crushed...the peony.
So fragile...so very fragile...
The wind kicked up, a gentle breeze at first. The flowers swayed.
The breeze became a gust. The flowers bent.
With a howl, the gust became fiercer. The flowers broke.
Delicate pink blooms danced around him, pushing him this way and that. Standing in the center of a peony whirlwind he knew then that fragility didn't denote a lack of strength. But it didn't make the fragile thing less breakable. Are you a newbie?: Nu~
Name: Touch of Death (after Kiss of Life) Buck: Buck Two Prompt: Naming Dream Entry: Every step he took made a dry, cracked, hoof-shaped print in the grass. Every flower he brushed withered and turned to dust. Every tree he leaned against shuddered and shed its leaves until he moved.
Stone was the only thing that remained sturdy and still under his hooves.
Clearly, his was the touch of death. Are you a newbie?: nu~

Thank you all for the wonderful entries! Alas, there can only be two winners! A number of them appealed to us individually, but two stood out as our mutual favourites!
I'll post them up momentarily for certing!
