In the outskirts of the human territory fields of grass flow like an unending green sea. Out within the depth of this ocean a lone tree looms tall and wide littered with leaves that seemed to pour down in the wind. Just beyond the tree a deep blue river carves a path through winding as it goes displaying just how old it is. The current is soft allowing any who come to swim if they so desire. The sun lays high in the sky making that lone tree the only respite from the heat.

Dezaira Corvus had escaped again! Her stellein was clutched sharply between a secret band around her stomach, just below her clothes, and as she ran it amazed and excited her that she had used such a powerful rune for the first time. With each pump of her right arm she could see it, glistening there with residual energy, its arched appearance was mesmerizing in and of itself and the child had to keep herself from continuously looking at it rather than the tall grass she was rushing through.

It wasn't like the technical "princess" really wanted to run away, it was rather she didn't care to learn of their ancestors right now and she wanted to play! It was pretty easy getting a ride on the airship with her stealth rune, and her mother's words rang into her brain for a moment: "The strength that glistens through your veins has been cultivated for generations". Whatever cultivated meant anyways, Dez thought as she finally came to a clearing and looked out to the expansive greenery around her. She had never been so far from civilization before, and with every huffing breath her green orbs looked about as if they were spying new things at every turn.

The rune upon her arm was beginning to fade now, well it had already been doing so for quite some time, and it made the girl swipe her arm as it tingled. Her mother was right, the rune was much stronger than it really should have been at that age, and she was still surprised it turned her practically invisible to anyone and everyone. The little girl had tried to decide which rune she was going to use before all of this (it was between stealth and disguise), and she was happy to know she chose correctly. She was like a shadow moving through the capital, no one looked her way and if they did their eyes only picked up mist from an exhaust pipe, and the thrill of it all filled her to the brim! She had never seen a stealth rune work in the way she contorted it, but it didn't even matter at this point.

Finally catching her breath, the girl walked slowly out of the tall grass into the thinned and cut ocean, and she looked around as if she was going to get caught at any moment. It wasn't every day the heiress escaped and couldn't be found by a simple surveillance rune or unit, and the city would be abuzz by now with panic at where she had gone. With her lip bitten, Dez still slowly creeped close to the tree that marked the vast green ocean as if something were to pop out at any moment. It was then that she realized all she had was her stellein with her and a few bone charms, but not enough for a battle between her and a mysterious enemy. Her sword hung loosely at her side, but without any body runes drawn, she did not know how strong she would really be swinging it against the opposite gender. Regardless, the little girl slipped down onto the ground beneath the tree, looking up at the dazzling sky and wondering if all those on the ground always got to see such a view.

...Ability without Honor...

As the kingdom ran a muck frantically looking for their princess a boy no older than 13 seemed calm. He walked with his hands in his pockets with a sword and shield resting atop his back. The sword was quite large considering the boys size and some would probably wager it was too heavy for this young king to wield with an skill. Those onlookers would be wrong, the boy was Ragnar and he had been training with swords of this ratio all his life. His father had always given him larger blades insisting if he would wield something like this effectively he could handle one his own size. The boy had an aura of confidence about him, not arrogance but he stood tall and firm self assured in his own ability.

He continued his walk as if being guided anyone listening closely would hear a soft thrumming that grew and dampened as the boy moved. It was a rune, given to Ragnar by the queen one mean to give him the ability to track the escaped princess. Ragnar had been given his duty only months ago and since he had quickly learned this princess was going to be a pain. "Good thing I have this Dez compass.... else I'd never find her." He thought with a sigh as he moved to an airship. He looked to a nearby airship, of modest size and almost nothing to look at Ragnar gave the man a few coins to take him to the outskirts.

As they went The thrumming grew and it brought a soft smirk to the boys lips. He had guessed she'd leave the city and it seemed today good fortune was smiling down upon him. As it touched down at the edge of the tall grass the boy nodded in appreciation before departing and disappearing into the green sea. The wind swept through the blade causing them to sway and arch around him ensuring the boy quickly lost his sense of direction. Once again his hand Dez sensing compass was there guiding him to her. After around twenty minutes of venturing he stepped into the clearing and tucked the rune into his back pocket to stifle it. There amidst the shade of a lone tree lay his prize.

"Why must you wander? The least you could do is take me with you." He said as he approached acting older than his years. His cheeks were slightly flushed and beads of sweat trailed down the side of his forehead. The heat beating down above mixed with the thickness of the grass had tired him somewhat. Despite his disheveled appearance his mind was sharp, the one he watched was crafty and he dare not let his guard down around her. Else she was likely to slip past him again. Though as Dez would soon learn she would not be able to escape Ragnar, each disappearance would be only temporary.

He moved into the shade and let out a soft sigh pleasantly surprised at how much cooler it was beneath the tree. "So Dezzy, shall we return?" He inquired teasing her a bit with the name. Despite acting mature the boy would not fight what he was forever. A child will always be a child, and a boy will almost always tease a girl when given the opportunity.

Dezaira still sat calmly against the tree, her right index finger twirling in her long hair absently, as she stared up to the sky. It was so blue, so white, and so very far away. When one was on the capital most of their life, they saw clouds all about them and the sky never looked like this. It was just an expanse, nothing special about it. The heat of the day felt nice upon her pale visage, and she took to closing her eyes here and there to soak in her surroundings without vision. The chirping of birds, the bristling of the grass, and the swelling heat of the day were all so wonderful. Whenever she did go back, she would have to petition her mother to allow her to come out every so often. The girl truly hated being cooped up in the capital all day long.

Her green orbs darted open when she heard a not yet familiar voice resound above her. Shoulders quickly stooped as she saw the growing recognizable face of a boy, and her hands which had darted to the ground to try to push her off as quick as possible, returned to their position on her lap. The side of the boy's head was shaved, and the only hair he had left was pushed back into a nice tail, and the only reason why Dez noticed this was because the breeze pushed it nicely. He was a cute kid, she had to admit, but this was no time for crushes!

Shaking her head slightly and laying it back upon the bark, she shrugged her shoulders and stuck out her tongue. She didn't know this boy much at all yet, though granted they had been assigned together for the last few months, and she was definitely more than happy to treat him like all the other servants that couldn't keep up with her. "You couldn't keep up with me if I did," she responded stubbornly. Gesturing to his forehead, where beads of sweat still dripped, she scoffed childishly. "How'd you find me this time? My stealth rune was really really good. Not even the adults could see me."

Puckering up her nose, she shook her head wildly, uncaring if her locks hit the boy next to her softly. "I don't wanna go back yet! I want to stay out here. It's... pretty," she finished lightly, looking out at the green grass and the sky. It was too beautiful for humans to touch.. or be around. The sounds of a river somewhere near pierced her ears and she sighed and folded her knees to her chest. Wrapping her arms around them, she let her chin sink into her appendages. "We're not good people. We don't do good things. We're bad!" she sniffled, trying hard not to full out cry. She was almost a teenager and an adult! She wasn't going to bawl like a baby in front of some boy. That didn't stop her from turning her head so that it laid on her arms, her glistening eyes looking at Ragnar with care. "I don't want to be a bad heiress. I just want to have fun and play and fight. I don't want to know about the Fallen."

Almost immediately as she said it, the girl's back straightened as she shot up and covered her mouth. In a fluid movement she then brushed away her tears and patted the sides of her legs with fervor. Clearing her throat she said, "Don't call me that, Ragy."

...Ability without Honor...

she mentioned him not being able to keep up which only caused Ragnar to roll her eyes. She was lucky he was so committed to his duty, her arrogance was so frustrating some time. She stuck her tongue out at him which he did the same in retaliation giving a loud "mmmmm" to go along with it so she knew full well he wasn't intimidated just because she was the princess. Then she mentioned how he found her and this caused the boy the chuckle softly before wiping his brow removing the sweat from it. "Hmmmm...." He said removing his hulking sword and shield allaying them against the tree as he stepped towards Dez. "You wouldn't be able to keep up if I told you..." He said leaning in close with a teasing smirk across his lips before rising back up and stretching a bit. She had attacked his physique so he attacked her mental capacity. Their little teasing was incessant at times and now was no exception.

She shook her head furious and those fiery locks threatened to tie Ragnar up with only brought a soft chuckle to his face. She was cute when she wasn't being a thorn in his side. That had despite its incredulous nature was a thing of beauty. Ragnar shook his head softly to thrust such thoughts from his mind. He was about to concede and allow them to stay when she withdrew herself, moving into an almost fetal position before speaking of how humans were bad and tears began to form. Ragnar was confused, rightfully so. This wasn't how it was supposed to happen. The two were supposed to have playful banter not her start crying.

Her knelt down to get a closer look trying to see what was wrong. Did she hurt herself somehow? She then started going on about such ridiculous things as being a bad heiress. he was about to comfort her when she let something slip. She immediately covered her mouth and straightened. Ragnar brow furrowed. What? The fallen? The creatures of fairy tales? Why would she be alarmed about speaking about learning about them? Wait.... WHAT?

She brushed away her tears and patted her legs before telling him not to her call her that and giving her own teasing nickname in return, but Ragnar wouldn't be deterred by something like that. "Wait.... what about the fallen?" He said turning his head so that he was looking at her intently. His deep blue eyes seemed to glow in the shade filled with curiosity at her reactions he would be sure to know what she meant. "We can have fun and play and fight. None of that makes you a bad heiress it makes you human." He said giving her some reassurement before resuming his inquisitive stare wanting her to answer his previous question. He was close now, within a foot of her she smelled nice which was no surprise. Ragnar smelled of dirt and iron despite his wiry stature he was strong for his size. Sparring with his father daily and up keeping the family armor and sword had groomed the boy well. He looked to her waiting she had said too much and Ragnar had to know what she meant now.

Swiping at her eyes again, Dez moved her hand underneath her clothes. With a bit more rummaging, the girl's hand came back into the light of the day holding something white and spindly. Twirling her stellein in her hand slowly, she brought it upon flesh as the boy denied her knowledge of how he found her. It must have been something like a rune because Ragnar didn't seem to be the type to use anything but that stupid shield and sword. Come to think of it, Dez didn't remember ever seeing the boy wearing any rune on his body, or any inky marks in the process of disappearing, and he carried no pouch for bone charms either. Was he some kind of purist?

She snorted, still drawing some type of rune on her left arm to keep her right from overheating, and responded right back into his face, "You couldn't keep up for two months. My mom probably gave you something, huh? You don't look too dumb to trust some random street peddler." She had just made a strange misty symbol that looked to be that of a crescent moon on her arm when she continued, "So what did she give you?"

Dezaira looked at the boy and shook her head slightly. "It's nothing. Just a fairy tale." She was amidst drawing yet another symbol further down her left arm before starting on her leg. All of this would take some time, each taking at least five minutes to draw, and while she slumped there her attention was turned toward the chirping of birds. It was all so peaceful so far out here; it was so peaceful in fact she couldn't even hear the droning of the capital a good many miles above them. She wished to comment on his "human" response, but decided against it. What made all of them human was wrong, she had decided already, and if that was all they were- then they were all wrong. It wasn't Ragnar's fault though, Dez tried to soothe herself, it wasn't his fault that he had to be born this way too.

Finishing up on her three runes, she cleared her throat and quickly left the dirt behind her. In one quick motion, getting up and turning back to Ragnar, she had drawn her sword and pointed it toward the river behind the tree. "All is fair in playing and fighting! Now I order you to fight with me!" Her sword was sleek, like that of cold black iron, and she held it expertly. It did not match the boy's greater sword, but it had its own runes keeping it from breaking so easily, and in her hand she knew she would be okay.

...Ability without Honor...

She seemed intent on telling him about his inabilities. My this girl was cocky. If he wasn't charge with protecting her he'd be tempted to smack it right out of her. "I suppose she could have given me something. Then again with someone so loud and obnoxious I imagine even an oaf like me can follow along." He said sarcastically mocking himself while intentionally insulting her. "She didn't give me a thing. You're just predictable." He teased once more waiting as she began to draw upon herself. Ragnar never understood it. Marking oneself never solved anything, it was a temporary buff. Something that was fleeting and the enemy wouldn't give her such time as Ragnar did.

When she denied him an answer he shook his head. "Come now, if you want me to forget about it or believe you you'll have to do better than that. I don't buy it. You're an atrocious liar." He said watching her face uncaring of the doodles she made atop her skin. Let her play artist all she liked Ragnar had bigger fish to fry and he would get to the bottom of this conundrum. She slipped up and he wasn't going to let her off the hook. He wanted to hear her say what his mind was already thinking. Despite how impossible it sounded in his head, he had to hear her say it. He may not be a genius but he was not fool. She was crying and then just brushed it away like it was nothing? Dez wasn't like that and Ragnar wouldn't believe it for a moment.

She finished and rose to her feet before drawing her sword and babbling about something before giving him an "order". As soon as she finished her words Ragnar began to laugh deep and heartily, going so far as to hold his sides as it continued before dying down. He rose to his feet and began walking towards her. "I don't take orders from you....." He said stopping just a few inches from her. "What did you mean by the fallen? If you don't wanna tell me, maybe I should ask the one I do take orders from." He said tilting his head and raising his eyebrows to convey the fact her was challenging her. She messed up big and Ragnar was going to nail her for it. Man was the queen going to be pissed with her princess and pleased with Ragnar. He crossed his arms over his chest obviously pleased with himself feeling like he had just laid down his ace and the game was his. He had no idea just how foolish he was.

The little girl let her sword fall but kept her hand in the air, reducing the weight slightly so that she did not have to use up her rune already. "I didn't realize your parents raised such a liar!" She moved her foot into the ground, making sure if he was going to barrel into her suddenly she wouldn't be taken off her feet. "At least we both agree you're just a bumbling oaf. There were many other kids, I don't know why mother thought you'd be the best one."

Scoffing, she flicked her hair out of her eyes for a moment before positioning her body so that her side was facing him, and her chest outward. "You have to fight me for it. If you win, I'll tell you." Panic suddenly sprouted on her face, and she lowered her weapon completely when the boy spoke. The wind broke around her hand as she flung it up in submission, as if to touch the boy slightly upon the chest, and she shook her head slowly. "You can't ask my mother that. Don't... okay? Just fight me for it."

The intent in her eyes were clear, and where they once held fiery passion and childish naivety, they now portrayed one thing: fear. She knew if anyone were to ask her such a question, especially after she had told her own daughter the truth of the matter, it was the quickest way to a sword to the belly. Her mother was already insanely suspicious of everyone around her, turning on allies at a moment's notice. Dezaira did not think she would care about harming a loyal, stupid boy when told the biggest lie in human history. As long as she could keep Ragnar from going, even if she had to bite her tongue and lose on purpose so she could tell him the dire secret, then maybe she didn't have to be such a bad human after all...

...Ability without Honor...

As she called him a liar Ragnars fist clenched. She had struck a nerve, attacking his integrity was a weak point for the young boy but he resisted the urge to retaliate robbing her of the satisfaction of seeing just how much that affected him. She quickly moved on to insulting his intelligence something he could easily ignore. In fact it caused his fist to loosen into just and open palm and a smile crept across his lips. She mentioned being chosen and it caused the boy the chuckle audibly. "I was chosen because I can keep an eye on you." He said winking in a teasing way knowing that it would in all likelihood get under her skin. As she turned her body he merely watched her waiting he wasn't worried about what she was going to do, she may be an annoyance but she wouldn't attack him without him having a weapon.

She mentioned a wager and he smirked softly, he had the upper hand. She was bargaining with him and that meant he could press the advantage to ensure it was in his favor. As panic set in at the mention of going to her mother he smiled even brighter! Today was his lucky day, she must had royally screwed up for it to be so bad that she would panic. He was really going to press it now. Though all of that faded when her hand moved upward. It paused in front of him and the brow furrowed in confusion. His head tilted as he looked down to see her petite hand out as if to keep him from going any further. His head tilted in confusion studying the gesture unsure as to why she would do such a thing. Then came her words. Softer than before and filled with something he hadn't heard in a long time. His gaze returned to hers and he saw it....fear.

A wave of guilt washed over him after seeing such a thing in her eyes. He was to protect her and he had somehow gotten her this frightened. His face relaxed and soft smile came to his lips as he shook his head and turned around. "I'm too good to you Dezzy..." He said softly teasing her before walking over and drawing his sword from its sheath while leaving it and the shield behind. He grasped it with two hands needing them both to properly support the weapon as he looked to her with a smile. He aimed to rid that fear of her eyes and so he would relent for now. He would play this little game of hers, even if she was cheating with the silly art scribbled about her body. "Ladies first...." He said taking a mocking bow pretending to be chivalrous when his true intentions were to just take her mind of whatever plagued her internally. He didn't know what to expect her move to be, she was crafty he knew that and in turn she could easily had some dirty trick up her sleeve. Those magical symbols always had some hidden feature and Ragnar was wary of her.

He stood with his feet just wider than his shoulders knees bent with his arms close to his side allowing for good defensive reaction. The large blade pointed towards Dez, it was no training sword this weapon was sharp and due to its weight Ragnar would have to be careful to ensure he didn't hurt her if he managed to land a blow. Though he wasn't focused on that right now, he was focused on her. He had been taught to never underestimate an opponent and with her he knew doing so would not only result in defeat but a lifetime of mockery. Something Ragnar wouldn't be able to live with.

Fear swept from her face with a sigh, her intentions made clear to the boy. He was dumb, really really dumb, but he still understood what fear looked like. It made her upset, slightly, to have shown such an emotion to some kid, but if it was the one thing that stopped his resolve for a moment, the child understood she would show it whenever she could. If only to protect those around her... like a good leader.

Dezaira's feet began to pad slightly into the grass as she stepped back and forth, getting ready for the fast movements of combat. "You don't know me enough to be good to me," she commented, slashing her blade to and fro as she watched him pick up his sword. It was huge, she did admit, and while hers was significantly smaller it had about half a dozen runes on it. Serious overkill, Dez had thought when her mother of all people placed them onto the strange steel, but they had not disappeared since she had been training with it, so she supposed they were pretty good.

Strange, she had thought before, as when she had used another sword before it didn't seem so heavy and clunky to her. The strength it took to swing and cut was far less than she had to do with this sword, and she wondered if these runes were not meant to help her, but to add another level of training. It was stupid, she thought then, seeing as runes were meant to help and elevate someone's skill. They were not supposed to be used just to add more levels of discomfort (if one did not notice yet, Dezaira did not like to train either).

She wore no armor, and when she burst forward with inhuman speed, she quickly ducked. Her blackened sword trailed behind her as she ran, and just before she could headbutt the boy, Dez suddenly stopped and flung her arms upward, trying to uppercut her opponent and eviscerate him in one fluid movement. Ragnar would notice both symbols on her arm burned slightly with power, and even if he did not use runes himself, if he was versed in them he would know they were that of agility and flexibility. Dez had stronger runes than most at their age, for goodness sake she could reach speeds that were hard to follow, but she didn't want to push her rune so harsh for the opening attack. Instead, her sharp sword would just try to connect and even that would be a win.

Let's see if he doesn't die, she thought to herself as she allowed the strike to ring true.

...Ability without Honor...

Ragnar rolled his shoulders in anticipation, the tension beginning to build. A gust of wind billowed through kicking up some dirt. A fitting sound as it howled softly as if to egg the two to begin. Without warning she was off, darting forward at a speed Ragnar knew she couldn't reach naturally. "Blasted runes, relying on something so fleeting is childish." He mused focusing intently upon her while trying to track those movements. It gave him difficulty to be sure, if his sword wasn't already in a defensive position he would have likely taken a hit. He only had time to twist his blade and place his forearm against the flat of it to reinforce the impending blow.

As Ragnar would have guess she went for a full on attack. His sword was there to block the headbutt, though when it switched to un uppercut he merely tilted his blade down to block hers. The force of the swing served to knock the boy back staggering him. Though he was used to fighting someone stronger than him, he sparred with his father every day. After skidding to a stop he immediately whirled on his heels, fluidly spinning his body and dropping his sword so that it came into the ground. Using his hips, core, and arms he launched his blade upward going for a monstrous swing to knock the girl up into the air. His blade dragged across the earth digging into as it went, as the blade left the ground a plume of dirt and dust would erupt upward concealing Ragnars presence and potentially blinding Dezaira if she had stayed in close proximity.

There was enough force into the swing that if it connected with nothing Ragnar would be left over for a moment though if it caught steel he would be in good position to launch a follow up attack or defend. One thing was for sure despite the hulking size of that sword Ragnar wielded it about as efficiently as one could. The momentum from his swings would surely cause a headache, though he had to ensure spacing was kept or else Dez would easily find an opening. "Keep you space, use your hips, create openings, defense into offense." His fathers teachings rang out in his head as the fight started to heat up.

It was a success! Dez's mind raced as her attack swung through with little purchase or resistance, and she was going to move the momentum so that she could twist into a 360 move, but the boy was already away from her. He had staggered back a few feet, something the girl did not see coming even with her foresight rune on her thigh. He was a boy after all, and while Dezaira's mother had placed many ill fitting runes onto her sword, her own strength should not have exceeded his. Maybe she really was getting better about allocating her strength, she mused happily.

Trying not to lose her momentum, and disallowing any type of movement from the enemy, Dez flung her body to the side, her fingers digging into the dirt to stop herself from skidding too far off course, and had just barely missed the frontal strike Ragnar shot off. If he had a rune affixed to that sword, he could have done some amazing earth or fire cone damage, and the girl's mind raced through all the possibilities of his process. Shaking her head, she was about to go in for the kill, lifting up her sword so that it could plunge deep into the boy's back and ribcage, but before she could do the latter her head flung side to side.

"Ow," she hissed, trying to get the dirt and debris out of her face. Her eyes were still closed but she knew where Ragnar had been, and her foresight rune would not steer her wrong! Grunting out slightly, as if her own sword weighed as much as his, she let out a horizontal swing in the direction of the dust. One eye was trying it's damndest to see, while the other was squeezed shut and watering, and she heard her mother chastising her: "A strong rune would have made this impossible! Think before you act! Focus"! Dezaira's grip tightened on the handle of the sword, and while she didn't have much hope in connecting, at least it would give her the momentum she desired most to combine into a more devastating move.

Dammit! He missed all of her and in turn his blade made a full 180 degree movement continuing up over his head and backwards into the dirt behind him. He grunted a bit struggling to keep from pulling a muscle when he arched in such a way to keep the blade from slipping out of his grasp. He heard her his in discomfort which could only mean the dirt did its job. Ragnar smirked knowing full well her general location through the plume of dirt. He had to act fast, there wasn't time to strategize or think of the correct approach. An opening may have been created and he had to take it.

He once again whirled taking a step toward where she had moved but instead this time his swing was horizontal. From his left to his right he aimed to cleave clear through the plume of dust before it could settle. He wanted to create another opening and another knowing if he backed off she would just get in close again and in all likelihood that would mean his certain defeat. As his blade pierced through the dust he could see her back one coming through now at the opposite direction. He smiled to himself preparing for the collisions. "She isn't running crazy fast this time. My strike should win now!" He exclaimed internally as steel clashed against steel. A clang erupted forward and the two blades cleared the dust with their speed. Ragnars blade weighing more had more momentum and pushed hers back as his continued on.

The blade moved through past Dez and into the ground. He had to step forward with the swing to get that much power and he now was within inches of her and had a window, an opening but he couldn't swing his sword that fast to capitalize. Improvising he through his left shoulder forward aiming to catch her square in the center of her chest and knock the wind out of her or maybe even to the ground. This move was risky through and if she dodge Ragnar would be off balance and rather wide open for a counter attack. He had to take the chance though. The two hadn't fought yet and he needed to learn more about her. She was weakened from the dirt and although he knew those runes were helping her this was about seeing how she would react to something like this. He had made an unexpected move and wanted to see how it would play out. "Focus on winning the war.... See the forest, not just a single tree." His fathers wisdom rung out again and Ragnar knew that was just what he was doing. Perhaps losing their first battle in order to gain insight on how to win the much larger scale.

The more he understood her, the better he could fulfill his duty.

She felt her muscles jar back before she saw the reason behind it, and the surprise from her throat was made evident when her right shoulder caved and she was forced to her knee. Her sword may weight the same as the boy's to her, but in actuality the rune didn't change the actual density one bit. It made anything to do without momentum lose her upper hand, and what was happening now portrayed that to a T. Hissing in a breath, gritting her teeth, Dez felt the collision such a large sword made into the ground right next to her foot, but she also felt the displacement of air.

She was suddenly being stifled, Ragnar's momentum not accounting, it seemed, as he sunk with his sword forward. If she had her dagger handy, she could have cut his throat then and there, but alas. Her eyes widened as she saw the minute rippling his armor made as he clenched the muscles around his left shoulder, and without a moment's notice, twisted her upper body sideways. It was far too fast by any human standard, something that could only be achieved via a rune, and just as his shoulder barreled into space, she lashed out her own hand as if to grip his arm and yank it to the side. If Dez's grip connected, and the boy's arm yanked with her, it would leave his armpit and side open to attack, and the hold on her sword tightened.

Of course she wouldn't actually strike him dead, but instead, she flipped her sword downwards so that the hilt would strike his armpit instead of the blade itself. It would leave him with serious pain shooting down his side, but he wouldn't be damaged forever. Dezaira was great at close ranged combat, it was something she excelled in amongst all others, and even if she didn't carry her dagger in the open she would still close the gap just fine with her runes. Unless the boy could grapple her in turn, or even continue this fight with hand to hand, there was no way he could beat her without runes and a bulky sword. Momentum was everything for both of them, but she was agile enough without it. There was no running away, there was only forward!

...Ability without Honor...

He charged forward and just millimeters before he could connect she side stepped. It wasn't going to be good, he was now wide open and he was sure his opponent wouldn't let that go unpunished. His was planted firmly in the earth next to him and his opponent grabbed his right wrist and yanked whirling him around uncomfortably so right into the butt of her sword. It connected with the right side of his ribs and his jaw clenched as he coughed from the impact. Pain seared through his body but he couldn't let this go. She grabbed his wrist but he returned the favor by grabbing hold of her own.

Falling now from the impact he yanked hard aiming to take her down to the ground with him. He coughed from pain and blood began to trail down the right side of his lip. He likely bruised his lung and now was paying for it. His chest was now tight, he wouldn't be able to last much longer without needed a break. His breathing had shallowed but he would be damned if he went down so easily.

As he pulled her down if she didn't go to the ground his left fist would come whirling up aiming to hit her in the gut to knock the wind out of her. If she did come to the ground he would immediately lift his legs to wrap them around her torso aiming to pin her or move into an arm bar. Ragnar wasn't an expert in hand to hand combat but his dad taught him enough to get by. He knew he needed to dominate with positioning and was aiming to do so fast. His right arm was tucked against his ribs hoping to provide some cushion if she decided to go for a second shot. It seemed she was trying to take it easy on him, a noble gesture but Ragnar aimed to see just how tough she was. So he wouldn't hold back.
