It was what he pictured his kind would look like if they rose form the dead on the night of the full moon. Maybe they would be hungry for brains. Probably not. The tourists probably made scarier zombies, but still the colt tried his damnedest to make the skeletal pony look menacing. Hellion swiped at his cheek, smearing the neon green paint he was using to make the eyes across one of his cheeks. He took a step back to take a good look at his work. The unearthly glow was coming across nicely around the skull, but he still had a lot to do.
The piece was his largest work yet, spanning nearly halfway across the alley wall. He was painting it just a short ways down the alley from where his siblings and he slept. A way to scare off possible intruders from the cardboard castle they called their home, located just a few short blocks from the school.

Lotus Eater was walking home from school incredibly slowly. The buttery yellow filly was the type who liked to take in the sights as she walked. She would look at the clouds and try to guess what they looked like, listen to birds chirp their light songs, and watch the wind rustle leaves and petal blossoms; Lotus found a lot of tranquility in her afternoon walks home as she took in the surrounding beauty of every day things. A light breeze sent a cascade of pale pink blossoms floating off into the distance. That's when Lotus Eater saw a familiar looking dark blue figure. It was the mysterious, albeit morbid, poet artist that she met a few months ago! Lotus stood frozen for a minute, unsure if she should venture towards him or not. Their first meeting was not completely pleasant, despite her best efforts, yet there was still a lingering desire to go talk to colt. Taking a deep breath, Lotus walked over to see what the dark, mysterious colt was up to. cursedandwandering I GUESS Lotus likes bad boys. "Is this going to be your masterpiece?"

The colt nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound of her voice, but that would not have been the cool or tough thing to do. Instead Hellion flinched and slowly turned to look at the filly that had stumbled upon his work. His gold eyes lingered over his yellow classmates and recognition flickered in them. She was the innocent one. The one with the ridiculous ideas. The one who was completely naive to what horrors awaited in the shadows.
She was the color of sunshine and he was a creature of the dark.
"An artist strives to make everything they do a masterpiece. Yet every work always falls short of perfection. At best a tortured artist's work can only be good enough," he sighed. Chewing the inside of his cheek he glanced from Lotus to the wall and back.
"Nnggghhh," he groaned. He didn't really care about whether or not she was scared by it, that was the point of the painting after all. But... She was so pure.
"Ah, it's got a lot more work it needs..." Hellion reached a hoof towards the nearest can of spray paint and gave it a shake before spraying a large stripe down the side of his skeletal horse.

He had such an eloquent manner of speech, Lotus wished she could let her words flow so freely and easily. The filly always tried to find the best phrases or words that keep harmony between those around her, she was not one to run her mouth willy-nilly. This often left long gaps of silence, just as it did now. Lotus stayed quiet as she walked back and worth along the wall, looking for something good to say. Looking at the painting before her, Lotus wasn't sure what to say at all. The creature that Hellion was painting was at current, a strange looking beast. It complete contrasted the natural beauty of the landscape around them. What was the saying? If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all? Though the longer Lotus lingered and looked at the painting, she knew she had to say something. "With your skill, I am sure you will really make the piece come to life. I like the stripe you just did... what is it for?"

Hellion winced as he looked at what color he'd ended up with. Hot pink. It had to be the hot pink. He had been intending to use it to add a touch of gore to the skeleton, but now... The colt stared at the stripe he made for a moment and chewed his lip. Well, he guessed it was going to have pink stripes now. That was the easiest change.
He glanced at Lotus out of the corner of his eyes, a faint blush coming to his cheeks. She was staring way too intently at his work without saying anything. Coming from someone as nice as Lotus it was concerning that she wasn't talking. The blue male scuffed his hooves in the dirt nervously as he waited for her assessment. She probably hated it.
But great art inspired strong emotions right? If she hated it it wasn't necessarily a bad thing...
"I'm- It's going to be a zebra. I guess... Do you like zebras?"

A zebra? Lotus continued to stare at the painting. It didn't really look like a painting of a zebra just yet, but perhaps it was one of those paintings with the realistic layers underneath or simply still a work in progress. She could not pretend that the idea of zebra wasn't pleasing though. Lotus gave a simple smile, "I do like zebras, though I have never seen one in reality. I heard a rumor that a zebra like phony lives in the park though." As Lotus looked on at the painting, it seemed like Hellion had a long ways to go. "How long do you think it will take for you to make your zebra?"

For a moment his eyes seemed to sparkle with a mischievous glint. She'd never seen a zebra in real life? Well, he certainly did have the paint to make her look like one. The colt considered the paint for a moment, picturing the other foal with painted on stripes. That could be... Good to see. Hellion did his best to cover a snicker, covering his muzzle with a hoof.
"I've never seen one in real life either." He glanced up towards the wall again. "That depends. With this paint it's best to work fast," the unspoken words being that part of the reason was that what he was doing wasn't entirely legal. "Of course, as an artist i can't stop until i'm satisfied."

To work fast, huh? Lotus looked around, studying how much wall space there was versus just one pegasus. Perhaps there was someway she could help. Tentatively, Lotus picked up a can of the spray paint; she held it awkwardly balanced between her two hooves and then turned back to Hellion. "If time is of the essence.. maybe I can assist you? Pass you cans or something?"

With a glint in his eye the colt considered the filly's offer. For a moment he gazed on his classmate, appraising her. He couldn't recall if Lotus had any particular skill in art class, but just the fact that it was her offering to do this practically made it worth it. Even if she managed to make things look worse, he would still get to chuckle out of the fact that she was helping him with graffiti.
"I'd like that," he stifled a giggle as he reached to hand her a can. "You can- you can paint on the torso stripes. Think you can handle it?"

"Torso stripes... sure." Lotus tried to smile wide as she picked up a paint can. She had no idea what a zebra really looked like, what color where their stripes? The yellow filly didn't want to seem like an artistic dolt in front of her... friend? were they friends? Lotus wanted to believe so. Lotus pretended to know what she was doing and sprayed an electric blue stripe down the body of the 'zebra'. Having never painted with spray paint before, her strokes were somewhat haphazard and paint seemed to drip down making her stripes seem melty. After she had completed a few, she looked back to Hellion. Her actions weren't fluid and smooth, like his. Had she ruined the whole thing by trying to help him? "Um...This is ok right?"

Hellion took a step back to admire Lotus' handiwork, setting aside his own spray paint can for a moment. The stripes were messy and the filly looked frazzled by her own attempts. The colt couldn't help but laugh.
"Yeah. It looks fine! Ha ha, a nice contrast to everything else."

"You really think so?" Oddly, the laugh gave her more confidence, like of course Lotus was being silly and it looked just fine. The yellow filly made a few more strokes, "This is actually really fun, I can see why you like it. I'm so glad I can help you with it." Lotus was completely oblivious to the fact she was helping the colt deface private property with his artistic vision. Lotus looked back with pride at her messy paint job and back at Hellion with a smile, the colt probably could convince her to do just about anything and Lotus would be a willing accomplice.

"Really, it's a great help," he chuckled. Ah, Lotus was so cute and innocent. It was definitely worth changing what he had intended to do for this piece just for this.
"This painting is definitely a lot better thanks to you."
