Just as promised, Lorenzo and Duncan eagerly set up a playdate between Vesna and Aina so they could meet after the Little Kyoto festival. The process was expedited by the girls, of course, and after a few weeks, they had arranged for a tea party involving all things stuffed animals, porcelain tea sets, dainty flowers, and Other Cute Nonsense. Aina volunteered her family garden for the gathering, eager to show Vesna their plants and to add to the collection of pink flowers already blooming in her hair.
The autumn weather had been especially kind today, and while Duncan worried the Freis would have to move their tea party indoors, the breeze was not too harsh and the temperature was surprisingly moderate. Aina, optimistic that things would work out, began decorating and setting the tea table for her guests in the early morning, nitpicking and rearranging a few things even after she was done. A few plush birds she had inherited from family members sat at a few of the extra chairs, and Aina placed Agnes near her side of the table in a recently cleaned bell jar.
Duncan prepared some simple fare for Lorenzo and himself – a Victorian sponge cake, coffee as an alternative, and some cucumber sandwiches. With the Frei’s intention of making the tea party extravagant, he had just finished setting the lunch platter when the clock struck noon – the appointed meeting time. Aina, who was idly passing the time by playing her 3DS, quickly hopped off of the couch before Duncan had a chance to step out of the kitchen.
“I’ll get it!” she shouted midway to the foyer, and Duncan calmly finished preparing their lunch. He trusted Lorenzo’s diligence, and when Aina stood near the front door, he had a feeling she would not have to wait long.

Sure enough, there was a knock on the door precisely as the clock chimed the hour.
"Hello!" chimed Vesna floating in as Aina answered the door. "Thank you so much for having us!"
Lorenzo followed in after her, sweeping Aina a short bow and gravely announcing, "It's a pleasure to be here," before stepping inside and giving Duncan an amicable nod. "Thank you so much for setting all this up- next time, we'll be sure to entertain."
"Everything looks so cute!" Vesna gushed, admiring the carefully planned decor. "Did you do all this??"
"We brought a few things, too," Lorenzo added, uncovering a plate of almond cookies he had baked the night before. "This is for us, although I didn't know if you would like them," he admitted.
"And this is for you!" Vesna said to Aina, pulling a neatly wrapped package which contained a butterfly charm out of her bag. "I hope you like it."

“Hi! Thanks for comin' over. How're you, Vesna?” Aina smiled, holding her hand out for Vesna to take as they made their way through the foyer. Duncan waited behind for Lorenzo, and he nodded his head, gesturing to follow the girls to the kitchen and the garden.
“It is a pleasure to have you,” Duncan replied, and he chuckled, shaking his head. “Only if you and Vesna would like. This was no trouble. How has work been, Lorenzo?” he asked, grabbing the ample lunch platter from the dining table as they proceeded smoothly out to the garden. He raised his brows, not having expected his guests to have brought items to the tea party.
“How thoughtful, thank you! I'm quite fond of them – oh, I should have asked if you would enjoy any of this,” Duncan said, calling attention to the lunch platter. Aina flustered at Vesna's compliment, and she shook her head, pushing the entrance to the garden aloft for the Frei.
“Thank you! Um, mm-mm, grandpa helped,” Aina admitted. Strawberry rose and vanilla crème tea were brewing in two different spots, and the pomegranate Frei pulled up a chair especially chosen for Vesna, blue and purple flowers tied at the top. “After you, Lady Vesna,” Aina greeted, giving her a small curtsy.
When Vesna presented the gift to her, Aina let out a small gasp, holding her hands out for the small package when presented. “Thank you, Vesna!” Aina replied, carefully untying and unwrapping the package. When she saw the butterfly charm, she giggled, holding it up to the sky. “It looks just like Agnes, I really really love it! Thank you thank you!” Aina beamed, reaching up to give Vesna a hug. “I'm really sorry I didn't get you a gift yet!”

"Busy as usual, although in my line of work, news of business booming tends to draw a mixed reaction from people who inquire about it," he joked. "Summer's over though, so my schedule is less crowded- at least until the Halloween season starts." He waved Duncan's concerns about the food away. "I'm not terribly picky," he assured. "I suppose I'm not much of a fan of pasta, but that's hardly tea party fare."
"I'm good!" Vesna affirmed to Aina, and her eyes lit up as Lorenzo talked about his schedule. "Halloween!" she enthused. "I have to pick my costume still. What are you going as, Aina?" She dutifully curtsied as Aina pulled out a chair, smoothing out her dress and pretending to sit down.
"Thank you, Lady Aina!" she said, adopting a more appropriately prim-and-proper attitude. "Please excuse the rude way I addressed you earlier. I was merely swept away by the excitement of wondering what costume you might wear in the coming Halloween season."
It was hard to keep up a prim and proper attitude while she was being hugged, however, and she pouted, reaching to ruffle Aina's hair. "You don't have to get me anything!" she said. "I give all my friends charms, just 'cause I like them!"
