Name: S'rse (second 's' is pronounced 'sh', like in 'Sean')
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual (maybe? Still not totally sure)
Weyr: High Reaches
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Beastcrafter (Weavercraft, informally)
Physical Description: Seoirse has a tall, slim appearance. He has wide shoulders and well defined arms, but is a little too skinny and definitely isn't the body builder type. His hair is wavy and a light coppery brown, the reddest of his immediate family. He has fair skin, and light brown freckles. His face has a boyish charm with its wavy bangs and wide smile. His eyes are narrow and steel blue.
Personality: S'rse has a great deal of intelligence, but very little drive. He prefers to coast along the path of least resistance than to take on a challenge. He applies himself to the task at hand with as much effort as needed to get it done, and get it done well. He does not half-a** a job, but he won't ever spend more time than necessary on something, or add those little sparks of genius that mark the greatest masters of their crafts. S'rse is consistently good rather than occasionally excellent. The brilliance is there, but he doesn't use it.

Like many of those blessed with intelligence, Seoirse is also plagued by anxieties. He thinks a lot about life, death, the future, the nature of humans, and animals, and their relationships with each other. He has some interesting thoughts that he loves to share, but at the same time, he worries a great deal about them all. And, often, seems to worry about nothing in particular, but is still somehow overcome by a feeling of intense panic. Usually, his response is to rationalize away these thought, remembering odds and reassuring himself that it's all just another part of human nature. He has an intense scientific curiosity about all things in the world, and has trained in himself the ability to stand back from a situation and observe it rationally, as an outsider.

Seoirse is the peace keeper of his family. Extremely easy going, he is happy to let those who are more emotional vent at him without growing frustrated or annoyed. It is difficult to accidentally make him angry, since he always assumes the best in people (a trait well tested by his tactless sister). If you're late, he'll just assume it slipped your mind, say something rude, he'll assume you didn't mean it. But Seoirse is no martyr- if you make it clear that what you're doing is intentional, he will not be so willing to forgive. He might be a pushover to some, but he does not make excuses for bullies. When it comes to confrontation, he is very direct. He'd state outright what he thinks the offending party is doing wrong, and what they need to do about it. Fortunately, he takes apologies without holding a grudge. Even if the behavior continues, he is not the sort to lash out in anger, but he will stand up for himself, and make it known that the person is no friend of his.

Despite his lack of personal ambition, S'rse feels a great deal of pressure to meet people's expectations. He strives to be a reliable force in people's lives, and he hates disappointing people. Since impressing Soltoth, he tries extra to appear like what he thinks a bronzerider should be; noble, hardworking, brave. In truth, he's still somewhat dumbfounded by Soltoth's choice, and often worries that he may be holding him back.

History: S'rse was born in a Minor Hold outside of Nerat. Founded by crafters, it started as a loose association of families that eventually grew into a Hold. Unlike other Holds, it isn't ruled by a single Holder and their family, but run more egalitarianly as a collective. Known as a place where creativity and innovation thrived, it attracted a large number of highly skilled crafters to its ranks. The Hold took more of a Weyr's view towards relationships, and numerous flings or affairs were considered normal and healthy. Despite this, S'rse's parents remained fairly loyal to each other, though he does have one or two half-siblings running around. His only full sibling was born just less than a turn after him, though people often mistake them for twins. They were thick as thieves growing up, nearly joined at the hip, though polar opposites. While he was cautious and level-headed, she was bold and curious.

While primarily made up of farmers and ranchers, the Hold represented a wide range of Crafts. His father was a beascrafters, focusing on breeding runnerbeasts. His stock was well known both for speed and strength, and he often took his runns to competitions across Pern. S'rse was more inclined to remain inside and practice weaving with his mother, but not wanting to disappoint him, he officially took up beastcrafting, training under his great uncle. Though Utopian to some, the Hold was not without its problems. With no hereditary birthright determining your status, craft rank became all the more important, and competition was fierce. S'rse's father was constantly pressuring his children to excel in everything and didn't hide his disappointment when they failed to meet his extremely high expectations. Some (like his sister) thrived under such conditions, but Sr'se was quickly burnt out by the constant competition, and soon found himself looking to do the minimum amount that would still let him coast by without trouble.

Though the small Hold was often passed over on Searches, S'rse and his sister were noticed while participating in a runner race at another, larger Hold. When the dragonrider approached them, he was hesitant at first. He was eight turns into his craft at that point. He had a promising career ahead of him. Did he really want to give that up? But when his sister enthusiastically agreed, S'rse came around as well. It was hard to see her so excited about something and not get excited himself. And Beastcraft would still be there waiting, if he failed to Impress. As it happened, both siblings were chosen in the same hatching they were searched for, remaining candidates only a few months.

Though they both enjoyed their weyrlinghood together, his sister chaffed at the restrictive life of the Weyr, and was only too eager to leave it. However, when she left, S'rse decided to stay. Soltoth was ambitious, even if he wasn't, and he knew the farm life would never suit the attention-driven bronze. It seemed like the easiest option. With thread's return, he might be regretting that decision somewhat. Though no coward, Soltoth has little loyalty to the Weyr, and would be easy to convince to abandon thread-fighting and spend his talents elsewhere. Now their allegiance is locked in, however, S'rse is bluffing just as much as his dragon. He's freaked out by the very idea of doing something so dangerous, but is trying his best to act like the model bronzerider. Fortunately, Soltoth's given him a lot of pointers.

Other:

DRAGON
Name: Soltoth
Age: 2
Color: Bronze
Size: 45'
Physical Description: Big and powerful, Soltoth is a massive and well-muscled bronze. He is bronze in the truest sense. His hide is dappled, shining like tarnished metal.
Personality: Handsome and charming and boy does he know it! Soltoth is a confident, strutting bronze who always seems to be wearing a smirk - as much of a smirk as a dragon is capable of, that is. This dragon is just as cool as a cucumber in any situation - he will never express extreme emotion if he can help it. Soltoth is just way too cool to do something like that. You love him? Yeah, he knows that already. The Weyr is burning down around his head? Oh, well, he probably ought to saunter away in that case. But not so fast that you would think he was scared or nervous or anything like that. Soltoth is no sissy!

Soltoth might be handsome and well put together on the outside. But only he and his rider know that he is really so full of bullshit that it is absolutely shocking. In reality, Soltoth pretty much flies by the seat of his "pants" and relies on luck and charm to get him where he wants to be. He is not afraid to double-cross you and he tends to have a rather mercenary outlook on life. He will serve where there is something personal to be gained, and he is not afraid to switch sides without notice. While few people realize these traits, those who do find Soltoth difficult to trust.

When and where he does place his loyalties, though, he is rock-solid. His friends can always count on him to come to their aid, even if he is running just a bit late. He might not always finish the things he starts, but when it comes to his friends his intentions are always more good than not.

Soltoth has a tendency to get himself into scrapes. Maybe he insulted someone who took it the wrong way. Maybe he screwed you over or stole something from you. Really, this rapscallion bronze could have committed a dozen offenses. He always seems to wiggle his way out of things one way or another. And when he can't, he's not afraid to fight.

Seiorse will have a lot on his hands, dealing with Soltoth. The nervous boy might indeed grow positively neurotic with a dragon who has mercenary tendencies. But Soltoth looked past Seiorse's anxieties and saw a young man of great potential. Soltoth will teach Seiorse how to get past his nerves and how to bluff his way through all things. In exchange. Seiorse will be invaluable when it comes to smoothing out the sea of ruffled feathers left in Soltoth's wake.
