So the Negaverse failed to induct him into their fold. So he was left to deal with their ilk despite his missing arm, his missing teeth. So Labyrinthite surfaced from his den of inactivity.

Even when they stood at a disadvantage, the Negaverse found the means to be vindictive.

Wanderlust left him passing through the city proper, and the warmer weather of burgeoning spring meant his hip no longer caused him frequent issues. Now he could sprint again, and in cresting the various buildings dotting the Destiny City skyline, he fostered a far better view of the city. While still no replacement for sensing auric energy, the sights of the various epicenters of activity issued an idea of where the Negaverse may erupt next. Since his last confrontation with their ilk, Scholomance found patrolling to be a frustrating endeavor derived from constantly being on the defensive. And while it bade him a reason to stretch legs and reclaim lost agility, tactically it left a sour taste in his mouth.

Another parapet crested, and he felt before he saw. Like oil across the skin, he felt its aphroditic heaviness in auric sensation. A lieutenant, he knew, and they strayed near one of the many clubs that catered until early morning. Several spanned the street, with each offering genres that differed from the last. Door fee, reputation, and DJ list separated each from the next and offered great variety to the discerning visitor. And lately, the religion of rave crowned the escapist scene for idyllic destinations away from the midnight battlegrounds.

Scholomance crested buildings in search of the auric origin. Of the many, he found it strayed closest to a club once frequented and played for by the Technicolor Butterfly. He wondered then - was Sid inside, playing for a taken audience? No one screamed; pandemonium hadn't broken over the muffled throb inside the building. If Sid played inside, she was likely safe.

Which left him to the matter of the lieutenant. Bone heels tracked across the tar papered roof, and Scholomance peered beyond the parapet into the alleyway below. Often he remembered club workers stepping out the back end, smoking up all manner of insightful items, and littering their lovestricken leavings for the rats to inspect. Here, he imagined, a lieutenant might find some easy prey.

Minium was not a camera shy soul - when the Knight loomed over the narrow alley from above, she was perfectly visible even in the gloom of the grimy shadows. She stood casually, unperturbed by his presence where she leaned shoulder blades into a rough, brick wall. Her golden eyes slid up towards the sky, as if she had expected the aura to be a visible cloud of energy, but there was naught to be seen from her angle. Just dark shadows below a sky tainted with light pollution. She didn’t shy away or even move, unconcerned for the time being with whoever it was that was lurking.

Here, with the dull thud of music blaring from inside two different buildings, she looked perfectly at home. Though her aura was immediately notable by any Order fool passing her by, her uniform didn’t look so strange within the scenery - wedged heels and large swaths of open skin lent her camouflage among the drunk and reckless.

Before the Knight could descend upon her, one of the back doors swung open and a large, swaying buffoon of a man slipped out into the space. Behind him, a bass drop roared through the open doorway, until it was muted at once by the heavy swing and ‘thunk’of the door in its frame.

        “Where’d’y’go Minnie?”

Minnie’s response was preluded by a pop of gum, making the man’s eyes focus a little more on her lips and a bit less on his surroundings. He swayed closer, so that he could loom above her tiny frame from above and propped himself up with one large, flat palm against the wall above her head. She supposed if she hadn’t been filled with the power Labyrinthite had bestowed upon her, she might have been a touch worried over the situation. At least a touch.

“I just came out here where it’s quieter, doll,” she murmured into the space, letting her eyes slide past him and up to the building’s roof for any sign of the lurking wanderer. “Don’tcha wanna be alone?”

Her hand was pressed to the flat of his abdomen with little flair, just a lonely girl seeking out the warmth of a strong, tall man. It made him sink closer, expectantly, and her fingers slid higher and higher until her hand cupped the swell of one pec. From behind (or above) it might only look like a lover’s embrace but from Minium’s angle, a pearl had already begun to form in the hollow of her of her palm.

When Scholomance's gaze crested over the edge of the parapet, he expected much of the same gruesome acts that Schörl would condone. He expected twisted bodies, mangled denizens handicapped by their resistance to the Negaverse, and prone forms victimized by energy-draining or starseeding. He expected mayhem and malice. He expected vicious harm as far as the eye could see.

But just as he met the rooftop's edge, he looked upon familiarity instead. He saw lovers escaped from the din of auspicious hunts, of heavy music and heady drinks. And he knew such a familiar scene from his own experiences - from when he and Sid were strangers no more, from when she stepped out for a well-earned break from overheated ecstasy. Watching them even now, he could feel the heat rolling off her skin as he reached to touch her, her techno-bright hair damp with sweat. They'd share cigarettes and kisses in much the same way. They'd lounge against such walls with ease, sometimes silent, sometimes chatting away while the beat through the brick gave them a shared rhythm.

And that tender nostalgia hurt in a manner he wanted to forget. A lieutenant lingered here, lovers aside, and he needed to find them before they realized the scene he expected.

Scholomance made no attempt to hide his appearance when he dropped down into the alleyway, the lovers not far from his landing. Bone heels groaned under the stress but never failed to support him. He passed the pair with a sharp look, each seeming quite fit for their choice of venue and no closer to a Negaverse agent than his own outfit. Still, the lieutenant's auric energy blazed brightly with its closeness, and he half-expected to feel out their location with precision. Still, such careful awareness of energy origins eluded him. Perhaps they would for eternity, mangled and broken as he was.

Scholomance threw open the heavy door and found himself blasted with old familiarity. The beat hummed in both sets of bones and he used the club's distracting setting to summon whip to hand without alerting others. But even now, searching among the sea of bodies, he felt as though he drifted far from his target. Where were they? Clearly they knew how to avoid making a scene.
