Veluri stretched his neck up, taking a bite at apple that was hanging just out of his reach. He missed it by a little, huffing out a breath and eyeing the apple in frustration. It was just out of his reach, the lowest hanging fruit he could find without having to walk forever. It was one of the best trees in the area, in the center of a large, bright clearing. Which was easily found by a wide, well lit path. No scary, dark woods to be home to equally scary creatures that lived to make his life miserable.

Keeping himself out of the shadows was working wonders for his nervous nature. He felt calm and at ease, having taken a nice stroll at th height of midday, finding some fruit almost in his reach. All he really had to do was jump to get it, but he was just warm from the sun, relaxed with it. It seemed like so much more work to jump up and get it, rather than strain his neck just a little further. Of course it would taste good, but just above that one fruit, the one he could get to, were some that he could not. Well, not with his mouth. However, he was far to old to spear apples on his horn. It would just make him look like a fool. And, even though there was no one around to see it, there was always the chance someone would come across him. And he really didn't want to look like a fool in front of anyone.

Still, he was hungry, and that apple was just taunting him. Fixing his eyes on the apple again, he reared up snatching the apple with his teeth and landing mostly gracefully. He tried to do everything as gracefully as he could, munching away on his snack until he felt something drip down between his eyes. He blinked twice, distracted for a moment, trying to recognise what it was and trying to figure out what it had to do with the apple in his mouth. It took him only about a second to roll his eyes up to catch the flash of red on the black of his horn, some juice dripping down.

Veluri blinked and dropped the apple he was eating and tossing his head, trying to dislodge the apple. It didn't do much more than make it wiggle. He made a sound of frustration, raising a hoof to paw at his horn. A futile gesture, for sure, but it make him feel less like a fool. Maybe, possibly.

With a groan, he wondered if he should try to scrap it off on the tree, or if he would just damage that tree. Or his horn. At least, no one was there to laugh at him. Damn, all he wanted was an apple, why did it have to end up with him trying so very hard to get an apple off of his horn. Ugh.

Another day brought promises of another journey for Mallina. While the mare did not mind being alone, she did not particularly care for the homelands she slept in when the day began and the others slumbered away. Something about having a place she could rest her weary soul felt as thought it was required she have company to feel at ease. There was usually one other she could count on for this need when the night came but never during the day. This would translate into her wandering starting early and peacefully. It worked out well enough for Mallina as she was much more of a daytime soquili. Nothing could stop her from rising just admire the sun awakening the world around her.

The mare took to the skies, gliding above the world and all to see the morning light dance among the clouds of the truly magnificent day that was blooming all around. It was such a great warmth that energized and carried her through the air, bringing her to twirl among the puffy white clouds. While she was enjoying her morning sky excursion, Mallina did not pay close attention to just how far she was moving away from the start of this adventure, and how many hours she stayed airborne nor did she care. Flight held so much joy for her and brought her as close to the sun as she could be. However, the sky was not her home. Gravity took its toll and drew her back down towards the trees.

It was only as she was approaching the tree line's canopy did she take notice of the wonderful strong lone apple tree. She landed with a small thud just beside the trees circling their elder's meadow to take in the view of the stallion as she watched on with interest. What was he up to? An amused smile brightened her muzzle as she watched him rear up and impale a fellow fruit as he snatched its friend. She let out a very soft giggle at the fruit's desire to come along for the ride. It seemed he didn't notice it at first but when he got wind, there was such annoyance in his sounds.

Whatever the reason, the male equine appeared to be distressed and she could not just leave him in his current situation. It was as if the mare mocked the sun's own rising as she strode over easily to his side with her kind smile and her voice held a tender tone, "It would seem you have a stowaway trying to come with you on your travels. May I assist you in removing the unwanted guest?" She tried her best to hold back any sort of amusement. His earlier noises of frustration preluded Mallina of how he may not appreciate or find the humor she saw in this situation. Consideration and compassion were her native tongue.

Veluri shook his head sharply, trying to keep the juice from getting into his eyes, because as mild as the apple was compared to other fruits, it would still sting, and he would be adding injury to insult. Or, something like that. Snorting more than once, he went through his options in his head, annoyed that he hadn't even been allowed to enjoy the apple he had intended to eat, most of it on the ground. Sometimes, having a horn was more trouble than it was worth.

No, he didn't really think that, mostly. The ability to heal was an important one, and one that he was proud to have. Even if he didn't know how to use it properly yet. Heaving out a last great sigh, he figured scrapping it off on the side of the tree was probably his only option.

At least, that's what he thought until he heard someone speak. His head jerked up, wondering how he had let himself be so engrossed with an apple, of all things, that he didn't hear anyone approach. Of course, that might have something to do with her wings, but it made his heart lurch in his chest, startled, as the mare walked up to his side.

Vel froze completely for a moment, not evening breathing at first, as what she had said rolled through his head. Complete gibberish, to him, at that moment. Once he took a breath, though, things clicked into place, and he felt his skin heat up in embarrassment.

Of all the times he could meet a beautiful mare, it had to be when he was making a complete fool out of himself. Though, she seemed to be gentle and understanding, and for some reason that tripped him up a little more, mouth working in silence as he trying to figure out what to say.

This wasn't happening! He was never at a loss for words, pretty compliments spilling out of him the way the water would fall down a cliff. He always meant what he said, but never meant what he implied. They were just words, and if he could make someone smile with a simple compliment, he was always glad to do it. But those words stuck in his throat in front of this mare.

"Um." He managed after a moment, just staring at her, wondering where she had come from, and how life could be this cruel to him. He'd just wanted an apple, honestly!

"Um."

He wondered if it was possible to loose the ability to speak due to embarrasment, since that seemed to be what was happening to him. At least, that's what he chalked it up too.

"Yes?" His voice came out higher than normal, making him flush further, dropping his eyes from the kind mare, knowing he would be unable to take the amusement he would see there as soon as he spoke.

A widening smile was the best and only seal over her amusement as it attempted to seal away a laugh. Mallina was quick to catch that color flooding to the stallion’s face and knew her joy over his cute behavior would only cause him more distress. Even when he appeared so flustered she found him endearing that pulled a warmth to her own face, blossoming in its own subtle small way.

As she thought more of his peculiar reactions and speech, the mare became lost as to why there seemed to be such an frantic nature settling onto the mind of her newest friend-in-the-making. Was he like this with all female equines? What if he was not used to speaking with ladies. Or perhaps.. perhaps it was her. Maybe her size intimidated him with that draft bloodline easily spotted in her genes. Were her wings something he was unfamiliar with? Had she done something to cause him such discomfort? It was a concern that she mulled over for a blink of an eye before it hit her. There was only one way to fix this: she had to try and reassure him that she not only meant pleasant, friendly encounters.

There was only way that Mallina knew how to do that. The draft wind unicorn took a step closer to this distraught soquili. In the softest manner she could muster, her golden and white face lifted and pressed her cheek against his warm one. Green eyes closed to show a level of trust bestowed upon him as she offered her steady stance to help him anchor in place.

Words holding a tender tone matched by her touch slowly glided out like a gentle breeze. “You must be very alarmed. Do not worry any more. It is alright. I promise I will not harm you. I have no ill intention. I won’t leave you with any sort of trouble. I am sorry if I made you feel uneasy in any way. I assure you that I only wish to help and learn your name. Please lower your head a bit more if you will? As low as you are comfortable. Then I can help should you tolerate my presence just a little bit longer.” She took a few steps back to give him the space to allow for the movement.

If he would honor her request, the mare would carefully move to lower her own horn. She would approach with caution and come to angle the twisted structure just under the apple. It was a much more personal touch but in her own way with their faces so close but it was Mallina’s preference to try and limit how much juice would spill free back onto her new acquaintance. If this had been allowed, she would ask, “Are you ready?” The last thing she wanted to do was to startle him any further.
