With his parents gone, headed home likely, he was able to plop himself back into the couch once he’d returned to the sitting room where they’d just had that lovely, though stressful, meeting with his parents. “I can’t believe it. Could have gone worse...or better. Went well though.” He said looking up at Quinn, so very happy to have had his help and that of his father.

He did hope whatever the other's father was doing, whatever had called him away, would be ok. For now though he was looking at the other questioningly. “Hungry….can order food for us both?” Seung asked as he motioned for the other to sit. “Your Korean was good, if you want can teach more.” Though he didn’t know if the others father had been telling the truth about looking to expand into South Korea, if he was it would be good to know the basics. It would show a level of respect and care, to take the time to learn even a little bit.

It also wasn’t like he wasn’t teaching three other people anyway, so it really wasn’t a bother. If Seung was to be honest, which he was only about half the time, he enjoyed teaching his language to other people.

Quinn was practically rolling on the couch with laughter. “You… you… dismissed your parents! Oh god. My side hurts.” He clutched at his side as he did his best to control his mirth. It took a bit but he was finally able to calm himself by taking deep breaths and only occasionally snickering. “Food?” It took a moment for him to mentally switch gears since he was still stuck on the idea of dismissing parents like they were naughty children sent to their rooms. “You're hungry? Um, yeah we can get food. Delivery is costly though since it's pretty far out of their range. They will make an exception but we will end up paying out the nose or we can just raid the kitchen.” The house had a really good cook so Quinn knew if Seung was just looking for just food then that was the best bet. Although if his friend was looking for something more specialized, like sushi, then they would have to find someplace in the city to go to.

Quinn wasn’t sure how to answer Seung’s offer. Learning Korean wouldn’t be a half bad idea, especially if his dad really was planning on opening up projects over there but it wasn’t like Quinn really had all that much free time now. He was still able to work in a few nights of patrolling and couple of hours for personal projects between work and school… but… “I think I can figure something out.” Afterall it never hurt to know a language in where you could curse and no one took offence at it.

Quote:
“I was polite about it - had to be.” He responded shaking his head at the others laughter. He had indeed dismissed his parents but he’d been as polite about it as possible, in order to not offend or upset his parents. Seung was not looking to insult or upset them, not when he was only just getting back into their good graces...at least in a small way - baby steps. He doubted, honestly, that he’d ever fully be in their good graces but he could try and maintain what he had now.

“Food would be good...too nervous to eat earlier.” The tea had been all he’d had in several hours, too nervous to get food into himself. The idea had been nauseating even, he had thought of eating earlier but...his stomach had not liked the idea at all. “Lead way to kitchen.” Standing he motioned for the other to indeed lead the way.

“Won’t be hard...will go easy...slow. Know you are busy - very busy. Maybe better when summer comes. Reading Korean is easier...Emperor who made hangul made it so everyone could learn it - quickly. Said a stupid person could learn in ten days...a smart person in a day.” So it was easy, especially when compared to what they’d once used for a system. It had been a big deal for the Korean’s back then, even if the upper class hadn’t liked it and hadn’t used it for a long time. It had helped the lower class people a lot.

“If your fathers offer is real...will need to learn economics in Korea and big business companies in fields we need to think of...many things to go over - slowly...during summer and once school is out...will be easier for you. Can help you in anything you need to lessen load.”

Quote:
Sure he was. Quinn mentally rolled his eyes at his friend. Yeah, Seung had been technically polite, he had followed all the ‘rules’ of polite society but as far as Quinn could tell there wasn’t much else there. He really had dismissed his folks, not that Quinn could blame him. If he had been in Seung’s shoes there would have been a lot more words said and very few of them would have been polite. But it didn’t matter now since they were gone and like Seung, Quinn was hungry although he had at least gotten something more than just tea to eat. “Well let's get that fixed, come on.” He quickly led the way through the spacious building talking as they went. “Dad wouldn’t have made the offer if it wasn’t real, what it is though I have no idea. That will just have to wait and see, Yeah summer will likely be the best time to work the lessons in.” Not that Quinn really thought that he would have that much free time to spare anyway since he was planning on ramping up working. Each place he worked at temporarily was helping him become a better adult and eventual boss at the company, it was inevitable since he was his father’s heir. Even if he didn’t particularly want to be a boss. Quinn fell quiet in his contemplations at least until they reached a room flooded with light from the bank of windows that revealed a moderately sized kitchen garden.

A older lady was humming along to the radio, a apron wrapped around her jeans and t-shirt, her blond hair tied up in a ponytail. It bounced around as she danced around the kitchen cooking. “Mom. What are you making and can I steal some?” Quinn slid up to the slim frame of his mother and started to peek over her shoulder only to be forced back with a sharp elbow in the gut. “Gahhh.” He coughed and rubbed his sore tummy as he backed away, “Alright, alright I get it. No stealing your food. Geez mom. This is why I prefer Mark cooking.” That last sentence was said in a mutter as he made his way over to the fridge. “Seung, anything in particular you want?” He asked before opening the large stainless steel doors and sticking his head inside of the cool box.

So then the offer was real...a change in jobs - a big change. He hadn’t been expecting it, why would he be? He hadn’t finished his schooling for business, not yet anyway, and he hadn’t an honest clue what to do with it. It hadn’t been something he had wanted but had simply been going along with, he’d had likely just applied to wherever his father told him to in the end. This was something he had, somehow, earned on his own and he doubted it was just to snub his father, just to help make a point, as he doubted Quinn’s father was that sort of person.

Following Quinn into the kitchen he took the time to look around, and watch mother and son interact. A smile tugged at his lips as he found himself laughing at the scene they presented to him, they got on well - it was nice.

“Mmm, no. Not picky...just no nuts, can’t have of any kind...allergy.” Had he ever mentioned it to Quinn? He didn’t think he had, only a few people knew actually, and most cause he either lived with them, they were family, or they had been there at the hospital. Moving to join the other Seung stood behind him and peeked over the other's shoulder. He wasn’t picky, wasn’t planning to point out anything in fact, but he was curious.

Quinn turned his head to reply to Seung only to find the other boy standing right there, peeking over his shoulder. “Gahh!” He startled a bit, whacking his elbow into the door and sending the bottles on the shelf chiming as glass tapped against each other. “Damn that hurts.” Quinn rubbed his funny bone, the mullish look on his face only getting darker as a rather loud chortle could be heard coming from the other part of the kitchen. Apparently his mother thought it was funny as hell. “I got to put a bell on you or something.” He muttered as he turned back to the fridges content. Seung had a tendency to get really close, like seriously invading one’s personal bubble, and while Quinn didn’t necessarily mind it took some getting use too. It also didn’t help any that the other knight had the unfortunate habit doing it so quietly that no one noticed him till he was all up in someone’s space, at least as far as Quinn realized.

“So, um… no nuts hum?” He absently rubbed his sore elbow as he tried to gather his composure again. If his friend was allergic to them that meant it would nix anything with even a glancing suggestion of nuts. It also meant reading all the ingredient lists and hoping he actually spotted ‘nut’ in there because if it was something derived from nuts but with a different name… there was no way Quinn would know that. Damn. “Hey Mom. Where is Mark?” If the family cook was around that would solve that problem.

“Subbing at Le Clair. Apparently Luke is sick.”

Ahhh, that sucked since Le Clair de Lune was one of the more high end restaurants in the city. Mark would be busy as hell if he was subbing for Luke who was a sous chef. “Hope Luke feels better soon.” He poked around in the fridge a little longer before sighing and closing the door. There was no point in letting all the cold air out. Careful of his shadow, he didn’t really want to run headlong into Seung as he headed over towards his mother. “Any suggestions oh wise and wonderful one?” His tone was teasing but the smile he had on his face was full of love. It echoed the one on his mom.

“Yeah, for you? Go out and find a place.” She snickered and rolled her eyes, as she finally added what she was working on to a bed of salad. A perfectly grilled breaded chicken breast. “As for Seung, here.” She pushed the plate towards the boy, nodding to a chair at the small dining nook that overlooked the kitchen garden. “Get him a fork nitwit.” She lightly smacked her son on the shoulder before dishing up yet another chicken salad and settled down herself. “Get me one too. Oh and some ranch. Is there a particular dressing you would like for your salad dear?” Sarah said to Seung even as she pushed a glass of water towards him. “And don’t you worry. Not a nut has touched this dish except me of course.”

Seung had not been trying to surprise the other, especially not where he hit his elbow as he did, he felt bad and was apologizing even as the other was commenting on how it hurt. Surprised to hear Quinn’s mother laughing he turned his head in her direction and blinked once, surprised, but she really did seem amused by this. “A bell?” He questioned before he shook his head and let his chin drop onto the other's shoulder. “Terry might like - would know where I am...would prefer tracker I’m sure.” Just so Terry knew if he was getting into something he shouldn’t be, or doing something that was less than safe.

“No, nuts bad and peanuts. Last time, didn’t know, put me in hospital till next day. Didn’t have epi pens on me either.” Which he knew wasn’t smart, Terry had told him as much afterwards and Xander had told him at the hospital. He knew better now and carried them on himself, while also keeping a supply at Terry’s house in their bedroom. Terry’s family, mindful of his allergy, kept anything with nuts on a different side of the table from him so he knew not to touch those items. They made sure he couldn’t grab something by accident, it was good for him because he didn’t know everything which had nuts or peanuts in it.

Listening to mother and son, following close behind Quinn, he was a touch surprised to find out what Quinn’s mother had been working on and nodded his head in thanks as he sat down. “Thank you very much.” He was glad it wouldn’t be a burden on them to find him something to eat, he knew what an issue it could be to look over all the labels and see what he could and could not consume. He’d never had the worry back home, he knew what was in things and since most things were made right there he could see the ingredients. Here it seemed he ate more processed foods and other things which he didn’t know half of the ingredients it felt like. Even fast food he wondered about some of the ingredients...the things you didn’t see. He’d never ate fast food back home, it wasn’t his thing...not when you had such good food all around you.

“No...not picky really.” Smiling as she described herself he shook his head. “A very kind nut.” Then a glance to Quinn. “Like your mother - very nice.”

She just laughed and said, “Get the oil and vinegar mix. It's on the door,” as Quinn did as previously requested and got forks and dressings. He was promptly sent back for yet another helping of the chicken salad once he deposited his items on the table, apparently Sarah wasn’t completely heartless and had made enough for all. ‘Leave some for your father.’ was her only request while she added a healthy dose of dressing to her meal. “So Seung, things went well?”

Quinn kept his mouth shut as he made up a plate for himself. He didn’t think his friend would appreciate him telling his mom that he had dismissed his folks like day old food. Instead he mentioned something that had been bugging him, “Mom do you know anything about this project dad mentioned during the meeting?” It hadn’t really been a meeting but calling it a blackmail session seemed crass.

“Nope,” a short and sweet answer.

“Gee thanks.”

“You're quite welcome.”

Verbally sparring with her was getting them nowhere so Quinn justs let it drop. He knew that they discussed things, his mom might not know much about it but she knew something. She just wasn’t willing to share. He just didn’t understand why. It wasn’t like there was any real reason not to. Thankfully any further questioning of his mother was delayed when the culprit himself walked in. He had ditched the jacket and tie, his sleeves were rolled up and he looked thoroughly rumpled and so much more at ease. There was some minor chatter, mostly about the food, until everyone was sitting at the table. “So dad,” Quinn started out slowly as he picked at the food, “Whats this project you were talking about?”

“Its working with several tech companies in South Korea to develop local programs and applications, as well as to hopefully create new hardware for the various projects we have going. But I don't want us to seem like just another western culture coming in to- Ouch!” The older male’s explanation was cut short by a surprised shout of pain and a glance at his wife.

“No shop talk at the table.” Sarah said serenely. One wouldn’t have known she had kicked her husband with the way she looked, all refined and elegant even in her simple clothes.

“Ah… your mother is right, let's discuss this later.” He wasn’t particularly looking forward to another kick to the shins so he wasn’t going to continue the discussion even if Quinn begged. Happy wife, happy life and all that.

“Went well - better than thought. Think it helped...won’t push it but being able to see family again will be good. Miss my cousins and talking to my sister.” Even if she was back in Korea, he loved his little sister. His cousin though...they were close, close enough she might as well be his sister as well. Being able to visit back home now and see family would be good, being so separated from where he was from and from the safety of family was what had bothered him so much. They offered comfort in a sense.

“I have always been close to them -cousins and sister. Close to my age and interests.” With some he didn’t have a lot in common but there were always a few things, and that counted.

With dressing coating his salad he settled in to eat slowly. Waiting to find out what would happen next, had that been a real offer? Did Quinn’s mother actually know or was she actually clueless? He didn’t need to wait long for Quinn’s father to enter the kitchen though, and hopefully he’d provide answers.

Listening he was getting the idea, might have decided to speak up, but watched as the man was apparently assaulted by his wife. It wasn’t a bad thing though, it seemed equivalent to a nudge from her as she told her husband not to talk about business at the table. He had a clue though...and he knew it was real. Damn….he’d have to put in his two week notice to his bosses...right? When would this start? What was he going to have to do with this job? It was….it was thrilling and he really wanted to know more. But...food first and talking business later.

“Thank you...for the help.” A nod to Quinn’s father. “And food.” To Quinn’s mother he also bowed his head. Taking another bite of food he was happy to have such friends and their families who were so kind and helpful.

“Will talk buisness later...for now what though?” He asked, not sure if silence at the table was normal, or was expected.

“That's good.” Sarah smiled at Seung, her eyes flicking over to her son before returning to the other young man. “Sadly Quinn here does not have any close family besides his father and I.” At least no family that was as close as Seung and his sister and cousins. It was a shame since it put quite a bit of pressure on the young Quinn.

“Aw mom. I got you guys and my friends. I don’t need anything more.” Quinn tried to easy any worry he saw flash in his mother’s eyes even as he thought of the mounds of work building up as he sat here and ate. And now he would have to figure out some time to work in Korean lessons since it seemed like that would be a big part of what ever his father concocted.

“No thanks is necessary Seung. We were glad to help.” Sarah took her husband’s hand and nodded at the young man. She really was glad to help this young man out of the sticky situation he had found himself in.

“Well for now we eat.” James said with a chuckle only to add, “as for ‘what now’ just keep at it. Basically beat korean into my son’s head. Toss in some manners and culture, stir it up and see what happens.” He smiled and speared a piece of chicken. “This is fantastic dear. Thank you.” Sarah just nodded and finished up her meal. “Anyway, Seung there is still a lot of groundwork that needs to be done before we can really tap into your specialized skills. So for now just share your local knowledge with Quinn, cultivate any connections you have, just take it easy. When this plan gets closer to real start up I’ll explain more.” It was all he could tell the boys right now. There were just too many unknowns at this moment to say more, after all he had just gotten the ball rolling within the last week or so.

Looking up from his food to Quinn’s father he nodded his head. “Sounds good, can do that. Best when Quinn isn’t busy. Will discuss with Quinn.” And he’d try and help him free up some time so they could do things when the other was free. There was no way to learn, much less remember, things if you were too busy. It would be a waste.

His dark eyes then moved to Quinn, just as he took another bite of food. Swallowing he looked the other over for a moment. “We can arrange and I will help you - busy schedule...to lessen it.” So he could help Quinn with what his father had suggested. He wasn’t sure which would be the best place to start, language could be hard...but learning culture and manners...manners would play a big role in things as that was important for any meetings. Culture also thought was important when understanding people…

If he only had to work with Quinn, and not his father also, it would make some things easier as it was less people to teach things to and explain things to. He was sure some things Quinn wouldn’t understand or might just be...very different from here, it had been with Terry, but it was what it was and if he was dealing with people in South Korea, not here, he’d need to understand and accept certain things as what was normal or at least acceptable. This would be interesting for sure. Maybe lessons in manners would be best taught at a restaurant as well? Since table manners were important. Hmmm, it was an idea. He was likely to implement that.

As he thought he finished eating as well. Turning to thank the others mother with a light smile.

Quote:
When wasn't he busy. Quinn nearly sighed as he tried to mentally shift his schedule around to factor in this new project. He was so absorbed that he missed the worried glances his folks shared. They knew he was working a lot, they just had no clue just how much. “Hum?” Quinn glanced over at Seung when he realized his friend had been talking to him. “Oh, yeah, sure.” He knew the other knight would be more then willing to help him trim down his workload but Quinn also knew that it wasn’t possible, mostly because he would just add more too it. He needed to be able to juggle everything, to do everything right. It is what makes a successful adult right? But maybe in this case there were things they could do that would merge two things. Like maybe Seung can teach him Korean while they find stuff that Quinn has been cataloging as possible items for his final project.

“Alright guys… lady as well,” James smiled at the table in general and nodded at his wife. “Once we are finished eating let's get our racing gloves on because I don’t know about you, but I’m itching to whoop some a** in Mario Kart.”

Sarah immediately started to scoff and trash talk, banter bouncing back and forth between the two adults while Quinn stayed silent. He stood when he finished off his food, bringing his folks to silence when he said, “Sorry but I can’t. I’ve got to get back…” to work faded when he saw the look in his mother’s eyes. A look of sadness mixed with resignation, worry, and disappointment. His father was better at controlling his emotions, there was only a flicker of concern in his clear gaze. “To kicking some butt in Smash Brothers! I believe I won the championship last time and I plan on keeping it. You peons shall have to fight for second place.” He finished. He had taken off from work work today and had been looking forward to working on his project but this, this was a constructive use of his time as well. Atleast thats what he told himself as he helped clear the table, listening to the various conversations and trash talk that picked up again as his parents discussed various techniques and special moves they planned on using.

Seung who knew all about working, and overworking, understood it - he was rather intimate with the concept. Something Quinn surely knew, or at least had an idea of, and it was why he was looking to help the other with trimming things down so they could fit this new stuff in. He also was an elder sibling, and cousin, and knew that others shouldn’t overwork….he was an exception to his own rule really. When Quinn seemed to accept his help, though he seemed distracted, he made up his mind that he’d be taking to helping the other...somehow.

Broken from his thoughts, and slowly forming plans, he found himself listening to the others father and was surprised by the man...playing video games. It wasn’t something his father had or would ever do...and that included all the talking and banter with his wife. His mother and father never would be like this...it was different but not in a bad way. It made them out to be friends as well...close friends.

Listening to Quinn he shook his head as the other seemed ready to go do something else...school work or work - he wasn’t sure. But he was pleased when the other changed his mind suddenly, and for an unknown reason, as he had been just about to step in and try and direct Quinn to joining in with his parents. It seemed they wanted to make it a family affair and Quinn should join in, it was good to spend time with family.

When the others parents went back to talking, now also including strategies, he moved over to the other. “They are close...it is nice to see. You should be like them more….find more time to relax...less work sometimes - I will help.” He answered and decided to follow the adults to wherever this game playing was going to take place, moving to tug the other along with him. He’d work with Quinn and help the other...he was a friend after all.
