Melvin stood at the shoreline, adjusting the fit of his gloves on the diving suit. A helmet sat on a towel wither another set neatly folded with 2 oxygen tanks.

Zeke came walking down the beach with his wet suit drawn up to his waist, the arms tied around his hips, and his upper body bare to the sun. If he was self conscious about the expansive burn that covered his entire right arm and that side of his chest, it didn't show. Hell, he seemed perfectly at ease in his own skin. On his left arm and shoulder, the highly detailed tattoo of his favorite animal; the vibrantly toxic blue ringed octopus. "Hey." He wasn't sure what to expect from today. On the one hand, Melvin was a great resource to further his research. On the other hand, his history with Lawrence, and continued, and very public unraveling over being dumped by Lawrence did little to instill much confidence in his judgement and desicion making. Today could be a trial run.

Melvin smiled back. "Hello Zeke. I'm Melvin. It's nice to meet you. He offered his hand in greeting.
"The weather is good today and scouting hasn't shown anything er should be concerned about. After the dive, you can assess if you want to take specimens."
"Have you done much diving?"

The Mist's handshake was firm and confident, and he smiled, though didn't echo Melvin's polite pleasantries. He knew enough about the other man to question whether or not they'd get along well. Zeke wasn't very personable at the best off times. He was, however, very curious about the blonde on a more personal level, and given the opportunity, wouldn't hesitate to pick and poke at him just to see what might happen. He seemed like the sort of heafcase that would be very entertaining. "Quite a bit, I got certified in college, and I've done a few dives since coming here, so I'm very comfortable with it." Though Harley was usually with him. This was the first time he'd b diving with another hunter that he didn't trust.

Melvin's handshake was firm but didn't linger long as he went back to adjusting his suit. "That's great. I learned ad I went so any pointers for improvement would be appreciated. Oftentimes I'm working with a novice."
"The gear is over there. We have about an hour of air. Plenty of time to explore a little. We can head down when you're ready."

"If you've managed this long without popping a lung, you've got the most important bits." He chuckled, untying the upper half of his wetsuit so he could slip his arms into it and zip it up. A quick check to make sure his knife was in the holster on his thigh, then he went for his helmet and tank. Both were checked over automatically before he slipped the tank into his back. In the shallows, he'd put the fins on, the helmet, his gloves. Only once he was sure everything was in working order did he bother talking again. Voice a conversational rumble over the speaker as he headed for deeper water. "So how long have you been diving around the island?"

"I got into diving when I started to learn how to carve runics. I felt it was a good skill to have and eventually did it so often that I switched to that department. I used to be on the swim team in highschool and generally enjoy it."
Melvin geared up and followed behind Zeke before moving beside him.
"I've become more invested in underwater studies in turn. You seem like you have had an interest for a while. Where did you used to live?"

Zeke had also been on the swim team in high school, but it wasn't information he was willing to share unprompted. In fact, that seemed to be the case with any information concerning him. If he wasn't asked, he wasn't prone to volunteering it. "Salt Lake City, then University of Florida for college." He glanced back at Melvin briefly, making sure the Life was behind him, then made an easy dive beneath the waves and started towards the drop off. "I was there for a doctorate in marine biology. Almost got it." He'd been recruited a quarter of the way into his final year. It was something he was hoping to finish up once he'd managed to successfully transfer to Life.

He followed after but soon came to Zeke's side.
"Got further in college than I did before I was recruited. I grew up in Maine."
Moving down, he pointed out before them. "The caves generally have mermaids and various caves. There are also kelp where some patches have become sentient and will try to tangle you. Various sealife have also grown in size. You can probably spot a few in the distance." He pointed out to the various darker shapes out before them and a few moving into various caves.

Coming up just short of the drop he waited, hanging effortlessly in the water with a few lazy strokes as Melvin pointed out the various bits of interesting sea life available to examine. "How about we start with the kelp first." It was closest, and stationary. Also, with the two of them, the danger of being caught up was reduced. He glanced once at Melvin, flashing half a smirking smile before kicking off in that direction.

"Oh sure." He said, and followed down to the kelp beds and moved slowly over then. "You can sometimes pick them out. Instead of moving with the current, they will turn their leaves towards you. Ah, see right there."
He moved over to a set of kelp and held his hand out, and it moved just slightly but waited. "It's actually pretty smart for...well, sentient kelp."

Zeke trailed after the other hunter before swimming up beside him just beyond the range of the slightly twitching kelp. If he hadn't been watching for it, he probably wouldn't have noticed that subtle move towards Melvin's hand. It had him lifting h A win hand, just a little closer, an intrigued smile gliding over his lips as the thick seaweed responded. "I'm going to have to show this to Harley." She'd love it, but more than that, she was his research partner. He spread his fingers at the kelp, inching his hand closer. "How quickly does it move?"

As if to answer his question, the kept snapped out and wrapped about the wrist, having been waiting to lure Zeke closer like a small fish.
It twisted about his wrist and arm and went tight as it tried to pull him more into the mass of kelp which now made it's movements more apparent and turned all it's leaves towards him, reaching.
"About that quick. Who is Harley?" Melvin didn't seem all that concerned that Zeke was tied up in kelp.

If he hadn't been ready for it, the quick grab of the kelp probably would have been able to drag Zeke right into the heart of the bed. As it was, it still managed to pull him a little closer until he'd managed to few powerful backward kicks to keep some distance. Freeing the knife from his thigh sheath, he sliced through the thick vegetation and drifted back out of reach again. The bit he'd severed he caught before it could fall away completely, and after putting the knife away again he'd run it through his fingers curiously. "A life trainee, she's been my research partner for a while now." And more, but that wasn't relevant to this conversation.
