The day had been same as usual for him and his family. He had stayed close to Brinley, watching over her and making sure nothing happened that would upset her. He had spent time with his mothers, helping Nevena and Hollie with whatever they needed from him. Brand was a quite boy, not one to talk to often or even say too much. Conversations with him.... were often few of words. There was little chatter coming from Brandnetel and he didn't mind letting his eldest sister do enough talking for the both of them, she was good at it and he preferred not talking.
He was solitary and sometimes it took a lot out of him to be around others most days. Brand had decided it was best to go find some place quiet to relax. With careful steps, he moved through the forest, his ears flickering at the sounds of birds and the wind carrying the breeze. There was always something soothing about his forest home, it was peaceful and cozy, bright and warm. One day he would ask how his mothers found such a nice place to call home, he was sure it was an interesting tale, maybe it would make a good bed time story.
The few leaves that remained from the fall, freshly uncovered from winter thaw, crunched underneath his hooves as he walked. Brandnetel squinted as he gazed up towards the tree tops. It was so sunny, so nice out, he was lucky today had been such a lovely time to take a walk. Maybe he would find some place new to take a nap and relax on his own.

There was a red bird, and gosh golly darn, Edelweiss forgot what it was called. It made a sweet call early in the morning and finding it became her focus. After a successful super secret wiggle from the warmth of her siblings, she set out that morning to go ask that bird just what it was.
The woods at this hour were still a bit foggy, but as she continued chasing the red bird the fog settled and condensed on the ground. Edelweiss too was damp, but it was not a problem. She needed a bath anyway.
The crunchy leaves were a problem though, as every time she neared the bird it flew off at her loud approach. It seemed clear to her that the bird didn't want to talk to her, and just as she turned to leave she remembered.
"Cardinal!" How silly, to chase a cardinal all morning. But that was okay, she had fun until she remembered. Which was often the case. Edelweiss knew what things were called, but sometimes she just forgot. There was always a million happy things flying through her head at anyone time and they all fought to become vocalized.
The forest they called home was not empty this morning, and Edelweiss ducked behind a stump as she heard crunching that was not her own. If someone was out there to get her, they would laugh at Ed's chosen hiding place, for the stump she chose was no bigger than a goat at best. Ed looked over the top of the stump, holding her breath as opened her olive eyes.
"Oh goodness, you scared the green off of me!" Edelweiss wiggled her butt, greeting her brother by prancing before him. "What are you doing out here?"

Brandnetel had found a lovely little spot for his afternoon nap. It was right where the sunbeams that traveled from the leafy coverage above met on the forest floor. It would be a wonderful place to take a nap, right in the warmth of the sun. He emitted a soft groan as he stretched his form from head to hoof, shaking his head to get loosen his muscles, and then curled up on himself to get nice cozy to sleep. Brand loved his family dearly, he loved spending time with them and helping them, but sometimes he just really needed to spend a little time away from them and recharge.
His mommy, Nevena, had said he was like her, quite and enduring, like the calm before the storm. He wasn't social like his eldest sister was, and he wasn't like Brinley, who was quiet and shy. No, Brandnetel was like Nevena and he was proud of that. He thought his mommy was strong, and that meant he must be strong like her too. Brand would protect his sisters and his mothers from whoever tried to hurt them, he would be strong for all of them.
The small foal's brows furrowed as a thought crossed his mind. He had met Judah, a stallion that he immediately had taken a disliking to, only briefly and he was already positive that he would need to protect his family from him. Judah had left a bitter taste in his mouth, like the dandelion greens his mothers made him eat so he could "grow big and strong". Brandnetel hadn't spoken to the stallion then and he certainly wasn't going to utter any words to the older soquili any time soon.
He exhaled heavily, trying to dispel the thoughts that clouded his mind. Brandnetel didn't want to fall asleep after thinking of someone who made his thoughts turn sour. It was another reason to dislike Judah, he noted briefly in the back of his mind; disturbing his happy thought.
Just as sleep started to take him, his ears twitched at an all too familiar voice that was coming from above him and he grumpily opened his eyes as Edelweiss pranced before him. "Sleeping. Or trying to..." Now that Ed was here he knew there was no hope of him getting a nap in. The foal stretched once more and stood up from his lovely little spot, the voice in the back of his mind begging him to stop and just lay back down, but he pushed the voice back and let his green eyes fall on his sister. "I come out here to spend some time by myself. Mommy says it's okay..."
He paused, tilting his head as curiosity came over him. Thinking about it, he realized he didn't normally see his sister come out this far in the forest, at least not normally when he did. "What are you doing out here?
