This is so frustrating!
Maia griped to herself, almost ready to tear her own hair out as she scanned the shelves for the third time now, trying to see if she could locate the latest edition of the reference book that she had in her hand. Did someone else take it already? But the search that she did on the library database right before she came here showed that one of the three copies the library had was still available and that she should be able to find it here so what gives?
Could someone have taken it off the shelf to browse its contents then misplaced it entirely by returning it to another shelf?
Maia certainly hoped that that wasn't the case. If something like that were to happen, trying to look for it in the Romano's Constitutional Haven library would be akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. In any case, it looks like she would have to approach the librarian on duty as a last resort to see if anything more could be done to locate the volume in question then.
Closing the distance between the librarian's desk and the aisle that she emerged from, she kept a keen eye out for anything on the tables and hands of the other students around her for anything that remotely resembled the book that she was looking for.
Nope. Nothing.
Stopping at the librarian's desk, she waited for a couple of seconds to pass before making an attempt to get her attention. "Excuse me..."
Nuxaz A start for you! Please let me know if you need me to change anything =3

Working as the librarian's assistant was quite wonderful in Penelope Rey's opinion. She had the capacity to do school work as needed as well as work on her personal projects that brought in extra side money. And she got to be surrounded by books, which was one of the best things in the world if she said so herself.
Most of the time, people entered the library for somewhere quiet to study or to pick up a book. Some needed help, but more often than not, Penelope just sat there and looked pretty as she worked on her personal work.
Today was not one of those days, with a young girl making her way to the counter. Immediately, Penelope's attention was hers and she flashed a warm and welcoming smile.
"Hello," she said pleasantly, closing her laptop and shifting her chair to better face the student. "How may I help you?

Maia already had a smile on her face when Penelope put aside whatever she was working on to greet her. Wouldn't do or make sense to antagonise the assistant librarian really since she needed her help after all. Even if it was supposed to be part of her job scope in the first place.
One would never know what other additional information or benefits this particular encounter could potentially yield in any case.
"Sorry to bother you Miss. Would you be able to help locate the latest edition of this reference book please?"
She gestured to the volume in her hand.
"There's supposed to be a copy somewhere in the library but I can't find it on the shelf."

The corner of Penelope's eyes crinkled as the girl apologized for her intrusion. Carefully placing one hand atop the other, she leaned in and tilted her head at her new companion. There was a soft, carefully constructed to look kind, smile on her mouth. "Please, it's no trouble." A careful, breezy wave of her hand to dismiss the notion that it was a bother. "It's my job to help and it's a pleasure really."
Scooting her chair back, Penelope stood up and leaned over the counter, pushing up her glasses with a finger to look at the book that the student had brought over.
"May I?" She asked before carefully extracting the book and observing the spine to read over the appropriate tags. Wrinkling her nose, Penelope purposely furrowed her brow and frowned. "I don't believe I've seen this recently, hold on." Returning to her seat, the woman began typing away her keyboard to check the records.
"What are you needing it for, if you don't mind me asking?"baby_gwing apologies about the wait!

"Thank you. I really appreciate your assistance in this." Maia handed the book over with a nod. At least Penelope seemed pretty pleasant and helpful compared to some of the older cantankerous librarians in the public libraries. With luck, perhaps there was a computer programme that only the library staff had access to that could help to locate the reference book concerned.
"I have a class on this this semester and this was among the list of references that the teacher gave. I was hoping to grab a copy of the latest edition that just made it to our library's collection before someone else did." She replied as she watched the older woman type away on her keyboard to retrieve the relevant records.
Nuxaz No worries! Now it's my turn to apologise for how late this is... ^^;

"Of course," Pen replied, glancing up from beneath her frames. Manicured nails clicked against the keyboard's keys as she pulled up the appropriate book information. "Oh," she murmured, a puzzled expression rippling across her features.
"You can't find it because it's so recent, that it hasn't been prepped for the shelves." She explained, scooting her chair back so she could stand. "It came in the last week or so but we've been rather busy and haven't gotten it ready for check out."
Penelope's frown only lasted half a second before her lips were pursing like she was considering options. "I should do that, but I might be willing to make an exception for an eager student..."
